Hecke modifications of vector bundles have played a significant role in several areas of mathematics. They appear in subjects ranging from number theory to complex geometry. This article intends to be a friendly introduction to the subject. We give an overview of how Hecke modifications appear in the literature, explain their origin and their importance in number theory and classical algebraic geometry. Moreover, we report the progress made in describing Hecke modifications explicitly and why these explicit descriptions are important. We describe all the Hecke modifications of the trivial rank $2$ vector bundle over a closed point of degree $5$ in the projective line, as well as all the vector bundles over a certain elliptic curve, which admit a rank $2$ and degree $0$ trace bundle as a Hecke modification. This result is not present in existing literature.
We calculate the Euler characteristic of associated vector bundles over the moduli spaces of stable parabolic bundles on smooth curves. Our method is based on a wall-crossing technique from Geometric Invariant Theory, certain iterated residue calculus and the tautological Hecke correspondence. Our work was motivated by the results of Teleman and Woodward on the index of K-theory classes on moduli stacks.
Let $M_X(r,ξ)$ be the moduli space of stable vector bundles, on a smooth complex projective curve $X$, of rank $r$ and fixed determinant $ξ$ such that $°(ξ)$ is coprime to $r$. If $E$ is a vector bundle $M_X(r,ξ)$ whose restriction to every Hecke curve in $M_X(r,ξ)$ is trivial, we prove that $E$ is trivial.
Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective curve of genus $g$ and let $L$ be a line bundle on $X$ with $\mathrm{deg}\,L>0$. Let $\mathbf{M}$ be the moduli space of semistable rank 2 $L$-twisted Higgs bundles with trivial determinant on $X$. Let $\mathbf{M}_{X}$ be the moduli space of stable rank 2 $L$-twisted Higgs bundles with determinant $\mathcal{O}(-x)$ for some $x\in X$ on $X$. We construct a cycle in the product of a stack of rational maps from nonsingular curves to $\mathbf{M}_{X}$ and $\mathrm{Pic}^{2\mathrm{deg}\,L}(X)$ by using Hecke modifications of a stable $L$-twisted Higgs bundle in …
Let X be a proper scheme and Z a prestack over X equipped with a flat connection. We give a local-to-global description of D-modules on the prestack S(Z) of flat sections of Z. Examples of S(Z) include the moduli stacks of principal G-bundles and de Rham local systems on X. We show that the category of D-modules is equivalent to the category of ind-coherent sheaves which are equivariant with respect to infinitesimal Hecke groupoids parametrized by finite subsets of X. We describe a number of applications to geometric representation theory and conformal field theory, including a derived enhance…
In this article we give an explicit description of the Hitchin fiber of SU(1,2) Higgs bundles $(L,F,γ,β)$ over a compact Riemann surface $X$ of genus $\ge 2$ with $q=γ\circβ$ having simple zeros and Toledo invariant $τ=2 \rm{deg} L$ satisfying $|\rm{deg} L|<g-1$. In particular we identify the data in an SU(1,2) Higgs bundle as a Hecke transformation $ι: F\to L^{-2}K\oplus LK$ at $Z(q)$. The Hitchin fiber is identified with a fiber bundle over $\text{Pic}^d X$ with unirational fiber, which is a GIT-quotient of a $\mathbb{C}^\times$-action on $\left(\mathbb{P}^1\right)^{4g-4}$. The base parametr…
We propose definitions of complex manifolds $\mathcal{P}_M(X,m,n)$ that could potentially be used to construct the symplectic Khovanov homology of $n$-stranded links in lens spaces. The manifolds $\mathcal{P}_M(X,m,n)$ are defined as moduli spaces of Hecke modifications of rank 2 parabolic bundles over an elliptic curve $X$. To characterize these spaces, we describe all possible Hecke modifications of all possible rank 2 vector bundles over $X$, and we use these results to define a canonical open embedding of $\mathcal{P}_M(X,m,n)$ into $M^s(X,m+n)$, the moduli space of stable rank 2 parabolic…
We study the Geometric Langlands Conjecture (GLC) for rank two flat bundles on the projective line $C$ with tame ramification at five points $\{p_{1}, p_{2}, p_{3}, p_{4}, p_{5} \}$. In particular we construct the automorphic $D$-modules predicted by GLC on the moduli space of rank two parabolic bundles on $(C, \{p_{1}, p_{2}, p_{3}, p_{4}, p_{5} \})$. The construction uses non-abelian Hodge theory and a Fourier-Mukai transform along the fibers of the Hitchin fibration to reduce the problem to one in classical projective geometry on the intersection of two quadrics in $\mathbb{P}^{4}$.
We find all possible isomorphisms and 3-birational maps (i.e., birational maps which induce an isomorphism between open subsets whose respective complements have codimension at least 3) between moduli spaces of parabolic vector bundles with fixed degree. We prove that every 3-birational map can be described as a composition of tensorization by a fixed line bundle, Hecke transformations, dualization, taking pullback by an isomorphism between the curves and the action of the group of automorphisms of the Jacobian variety of the curve which fix the r-torsion. In particular, we prove a Torelli typ…
Given a complex reductive group G, Borel subgroup B, and topological surface S with boundary dS, we study the "Betti spectral category" DCoh_N(Loc_G(S, dS)) of coherent sheaves with nilpotent singular support on the character stack of G-local systems on S with B-reductions along dS. Modifications along the components of dS endow this category with commuting actions of the affine Hecke category H_G in its realization as coherent sheaves on the Steinberg stack. We prove a "spectral Verlinde formula" identifying the result of gluing two boundary components with the Hochschild homology of the corr…

We show that geometric syntomic cohomology lifts canonically to the category of Banach-Colmez spaces and study its relation to extensions of modifications of vector bundles on the Fargues-Fontaine curve. We include some computations of geometric syntomic cohomology Spaces: they are finite rank $Q_p$-vector spaces for ordinary varieties, but in the nonordinary case, these cohomology Spaces carry much more information, in particular they can have a non-trivial $C$-rank. This dichotomy is reminiscent of the Hodge-Tate period map for $p$-divisible groups.
