Topological quantum computation relies on control of non-Abelian anyons for inherently fault-tolerant storage and processing of quantum information. By now, blueprints for topological qubits are well developed for electrically active topological superconductor and fractional quantum Hall platforms. We leverage recent insights into the creation and detection of non-Abelian anyons in electrically insulating spin systems to propose topological qubit architectures based on quantum spin liquids. We present two types of prototype designs that enable the requisite control in a potentially scalable framework: one invokes spin liquids integrated into magnetic tunnel junction arrays, the other uses semiconductor-spin liquid hybrids. We further identify various protocols for interrogating spin-liquid-based topological qubits, both to validate the underlying principles of topological quantum computation and to establish gates required for universal quantum computation. These results provide long-term direction for experimental investigation of Kitaev materials and potentially other solid-state spin liquid hosts.
The idea of topological quantum computation is to build powerful and robust quantum computers with certain macroscopic quantum states of matter called topologically ordered states. These systems have degenerate ground states that can be used as robust "topological qubits" to store and process quantum information. However, a topological qubit has not been realized since the proposed systems either require sophisticated topologically ordered states that are not available yet, or require complicated geometries that are too difficult to realize. In this paper, we propose a new experimental setup w…
We propose computing bus devices that enable quantum information to be coherently transferred between topological and conventional qubits. We describe a concrete realization of such a topological quantum bus acting between a topological qubit in a Majorana wire network and a conventional semiconductor double quantum dot qubit. Specifically, this device measures the joint (fermion) parity of these two different qubits by using the Aharonov-Casher effect in conjunction with an ancilliary superconducting flux qubit that facilitates the measurement. Such a parity measurement, together with the abi…
We discuss a non-fermi liquid gapless metallic surface state of the topological band insulator. It has an odd number of gapless Dirac fermions coupled to a non-compact U(1) gauge field. This can be viewed as a vortex dual to the conventional Dirac fermion surface state. This surface duality is a reflection of a bulk dual description discussed recently for the gauged topological insulator. All the other known surface states can be conveniently accessed from the dual Dirac liquid, including the surface quantum hall state, the Fu-Kane superconductor, the gapped symmetric topological order and the…
We propose a new parton theory of the hole-doped cuprates, describing the evolution from the pseudogap metal with small Fermi surfaces to the conventional Fermi liquid with a large Fermi surface. We introduce 2 ancilla qubits per square lattice site, and employ them to obtain a variational wavefunction of a fractionalized Fermi liquid for the pseudogap metal state. We propose a multi-layer Hamiltonion for the cuprates, with the electrons residing in the 'physical' layer, and the ancilla qubits in two 'hidden' layers: the hidden layers can be decoupled from the physical layer by a canonical tra…
We propose a scheme to implement Controlled Not-gate for topological qubits in a quantum-dot-Majorana-fermion hybrid system. Quantum information is encoded on pairs of Majorana fermions, which live on the the interface between topologically trivial and nontrivial sections of a quantum nanowire deposited on an s-wave superconductor. A measurement-based two-qubit Controlled-Not gate is produced with the help of parity measurements assisted by the quantum-dot and followed by prescribed single-qubit gates. The parity measurement, on the quantum-dot and a topological qubit, is achieved by the Aharo…
We present a class of time-reversal-symmetric fractional topological liquid states in two dimensions that support fractionalized excitations. These are incompressible liquids made of electrons, for which the charge Hall conductance vanishes and the spin Hall conductance needs not be quantized. We then analyze the stability of edge states in these two-dimensional topological fluids against localization by disorder. We find a Z_2 stability criterion for whether or not there exists a Kramers pair of edge modes that is robust against disorder. We also introduce an interacting electronic two-dimens…
Insulating $\mathbb{Z}_2$ spin liquids are a phase of matter with bulk anyonic quasiparticle excitations and ground state degeneracies on manifolds with non-trivial topology. In this paper, we construct a time-reversal symmetric $\mathbb{Z}_2$ spin liquid in two spatial dimensions using an array of quantum wires. We identify the anyons as kinks in the appropriate Luttinger-liquid description, compute their mutual statistics and construct local operators that transport these quasiparticles. We also present a construction of a fractionalized Fermi-liquid (FL*) by coupling the spin sector of the …
We introduce exotic gapless states---`composite Dirac liquids'---that can appear at a strongly interacting surface of a three-dimensional electronic topological insulator. Composite Dirac liquids exhibit a gap to all charge excitations but nevertheless feature a single massless Dirac cone built from emergent electrically neutral fermions. These states thus comprise electrical insulators that, interestingly, retain thermal properties similar to those of the non-interacting topological insulator surface. A variety of novel fully gapped phases naturally descend from composite Dirac liquids. Most …
We study the quantum point contact between the topological superconductor and the helical Luttinger liquid. The effects of the electron-electron interactions in the helical Luttinger liquid on the low-energy physics of this system are analyzed by the renormalization group. Among the various couplings at the point contact which arise from the tunneling via the Majorana edge channel, the induced backscattering in the helical Luttinger liquid is the most relevant for repulsive interactions. Hence, at low temperatures, the helical Luttinger liquid is effectively cut into two separated half wires. …
In this paper, we found a new type of insulator - composite spin liquid which can be regarded as a short range B-type topological spin-density-wave. Composite spin liquid is topological ordered state beyond the classification of traditional spin liquid states. The elementary excitations are the "composite electrons" with both spin degree of freedom and charge degree of freedom, together with topological spin texture. This topological state supports chiral edge mode but no topological degeneracy.
The intrinsic anomalous Hall effect in metallic ferromagnets is shown to be controlled by Berry phases accumulated by adiabatic motion of quasiparticles on the Fermi surface, and is purely a Fermi-liquid property, not a ``bulk'' Fermi sea property like Landau diamagnetism, as has been previously supposed. Berry phases are a new topological ingredient that must be added to Landau Fermi-liquid theory in the presence of broken inversion or time-reversal symmetry.
Topological order in strongly correlated systems, including quantum spin liquids, quantum Hall states in lattices and topological superconductivity is treated. Various metallic non-Fermi-liquid states are discussed, including fractionalized Fermi-liquid (FL$^*$) and phase string theories. Classification of topological states and differences between quantum and classical topology are considered.
In this paper we study a non-equilibrium resonant tunnelling problem where a non-interacting quantum dot is connected to two leads, one being the edge of an interacting 2-D topological insulator (Luttinger liquid) and the other being a usual Fermi liquid. We show that the current passing through the system can be expressed in terms of a non-equilibrium local single-particle Green's function of the Luttinger liquid lead which can be analysed using standard bosonization- Renormalization Group (RG) technique. In particular, some exact results can be extracted in the small bias limit with repulsiv…
We point out that the zero-energy Landau level of Dirac fermions in graphene can be, in the presence of a repulsive electron-electron interaction, split into two (levels) associated with a "bond ordering" formation having a "Kekule pattern", which respects the chiral symmetry. Since the Kekule pattern has a three-fold degeneracy, domain structures are implied, for which we show that in-gap states localized along the domain boundaries exist as topological states. Based on this a possibility of a quantum-liquid ground state of graphene in magnetic fields is discussed.
A projective symmetry group (PSG) has been regarded as a classification theory of spin liquids. However, it does not include a symmetry-protected topological order of fermionic spinon excitations, and thus the classification of gapped spin liquids is incomplete. We demonstrate the classification beyond PSG by utilizing the Kitaev model on the squareoctagon lattice, where two gapped spin liquids are distinguished by a topological $Z_2$ invariant. This $Z_2$ invariant can be defined solely by the time-reversal and translation symmetries on condition that the time-reversal symmetry is implemented…
The Kitaev chain model exhibits topological order that manifests as topological degeneracy, Majorana edge modes and $Z_{2}$ topological invariance of the abulk spectrum. This model can be obtained from a transverse field Ising model(TFIM) using the Jordan-Wigner transformation. TFIM has neither topological degeneracy nor any edge modes. Topological degeneracy associated with topological order is central to topological quantum computation. In this paper we will explore topological protection of the ground state manifold in the case of Majorana fermion models which exhibit $Z_{2}$ topological or…
We investigate the many-body generalization of the orthogonality catastrophe by studying the generalized Loschmidt echo of Luttinger liquids (LLs) after a global change of interaction. It decays exponentially with system size and exhibits universal behaviour: the steady state exponent after quenching back and forth n-times between 2 LLs (bang-bang protocol) is 2n-times bigger than that of the adiabatic overlap, and depends only on the initial and final LL parameters. These are corroborated numerically by matrix-product state based methods of the XXZ Heisenberg model. An experimental setup cons…
Topological phases of matter is a natural place for encoding robust qubits for quantum computation. In this work we extend the newly introduced class of qubits based on valence-bond solid models with SPT (symmetry-protected topological) order to more general cases. Furthermore, we define and compare various classes of topological qubits encoded in the bulk ground states of topological systems, including SSB (spontaneous symmetry-breaking), TOP (topological), SET (symmetry-enriched topological), SPT, and subsystem SPT classes. We focus on several features for qubits to be robust, including erro…
Coulomb spin liquids are topological magnetic states obeying an emergent Gauss' law. Little distinction has been made between different kinds of Coulomb liquids. Here we show how a series of distinct Coulomb liquids can be generated straightforwardly by varying the constraints on a classical spin system. This leads to pair creation, and coalescence, of topological defects of an underlying vector field. The latter makes higher-rank spin liquids, of recent interest in the context of fracton theories, with attendant multi-fold pinch points in the structure factor, appear naturally. New Coulomb li…
We investigate the decoherence patterns of topological qubits in contact with the environment by a novel way of deriving the open system dynamics other than the Feynman-Vernon. Each topological qubit is made of two Majorana modes of a 1D Kitaev's chain. These two Majorana modes interact with the environment in an incoherent way which yields peculiar decoherence patterns of the topological qubit. More specifically, we consider the open system dynamics of the topological qubits which are weakly coupled to the fermionic/bosonic Ohmic-like environments. We find atypical patterns of quantum decoher…
In this paper, we investigate the topological Hubbard model - the spinful Haldane model with on-site interaction on honeycomb lattice with spin rotation symmetry by using slave-rotor approach and find that chiral spin liquid exists in such a correlated electron system of the intermediate coupling region. By considering the anyon nature of excitations, chiral spin liquid may be the ground state of the topological Hubbard model. The low energy physics is basically determined by its Chern-Simons gauge theory.
We argue that topological Kondo insulators can also have 'intrinsic' topological order associated with fractionalized excitations on their surfaces. The hydridization between the local moments and conduction electrons can weaken near the surface, and this enables the local moments to form spin liquids. This co-exists with the conduction electron surface states, realizing a surface fractionalized Fermi liquid. We present mean-field solutions of a Kondo-Heisenberg model which display such surfaces.
Very few topological systems with long-range couplings have been considered so far due to our lack of analytic approaches. Here we extend the Kitaev chain, a 1D quantum liquid, to infinite-range couplings and study its topological properties. We demonstrate that, even though topological phases are intimately linked to the notion of locality, the infinite-range couplings give rise to topological zero and non-zero energy Majorana end modes depending on the boundary conditions of the system. We show that the analytically derived properties are to a large degree stable against modifications to dec…
Topological qubits based on $SU(N)$-symmetric valence-bond solid models are constructed. A logical topological qubit is the ground subspace with two-fold degeneracy, which is due to the spontaneous breaking of a global parity symmetry. A logical $Z$-rotation by angle $\frac{2π}{N}$, for any integer $N > 2$, is provided by a global twist operation, which is of topological nature and protected by the energy gap. A general concatenation scheme with standard quantum error-correction codes is also proposed, which can lead to better codes. Generic error-correction properties of symmetry-protected to…
The Raman scattering with local optical excitation from the Majorana edge modes of Kitaev spin liquids and topological superconductors is studied theoretically. Although the effective one-dimensional model is common between these two cases, the coupling to the electromagnetic field is different. It is found that the Raman spectrum at low energy scales with $ω^3$ in Kitaev spin liquids while it shows the gap in topological superconductors. This is in sharp contrast to the infrared absorption, where the spectrum shows the gap in Kitaev spin liquids, while it behaves as $\sim ω^2$ in topological …
Topological spin liquids are robust quantum states of matter with long-range entanglement and possess many exotic properties such as the fractional statistics of the elementary excitations. Yet these states, short of local parameters like all topological states, are elusive for conventional experimental probes. In this work, we combine theoretical analysis and quantum Monte Carlo numerics on a frustrated spin model which hosts a $\mathbb Z_2$ topological spin liquid ground state, and demonstrate that the presence of symmetry-protected gapless edge modes is a characteristic feature of the state…
Topological quantum computation is an implementation of a quantum computer in a way that radically reduces decoherence. Topological qubits are encoded in the topological evolution of two-dimensional quasi-particles called anyons and universal set of quantum gates can be constructed by braiding these anyons yielding to a topologically protected circuit model. In the present study we remind the basics of this emerging quantum computation scheme and illustrate how a topological qubit built with three Fibonacci anyons might be adopted to achieve leakage free braiding gate by exchanging the anyons …
The anyonic excitations of topological two-body color code model are used to implement a set of gates. Because of two-body interactions, the model can be simulated in optical lattices. The excitations have nontrivial mutual statistics, and are coupled to nontrivial gauge fields. The underlying lattice structure provides various opportunities for encoding the states of a logical qubit in anyonic states. The interactions make the transition between different anyonic states, so being logical operation in the computational bases of the encoded qubit. Two-qubit gates can be performed in a topologic…
We demonstrate that the notion of spin-charge separation as follows from the Tomonaga-Luttinger theory of relativistic fermions does not suffice to completely specify the Luttinger liquid state associated with the fermions of condensed matter physics. The latter carries in addition a form of topological order which can be made visible using non-local correlation functions familiar from lattice gauge theory.
Fractionalization is a ubiquitous phenomenon in topological states of matter. In this work, we study the collective behavior of fractionalized topological charges and their instabilities, through the $J_1$-$J_2$-$J_3$ Ising model on a kagome lattice, which can be mapped to a model of interacting topological charges under the constraint of Gauss' law. We find that the recombination of topological charges gives rise to a yet unexplored classical spin liquid. This spin liquid is characterized by an extensive residual entropy, as well as the formation of hexamers of same-sign topological charges. …
A group of novel materials can be mapped to the star lattice, which exhibits some novel physical properties. We give the bulk-edge correspondence theory of the star lattice and study the edge states and their topological orders in different spin liquid phases. The bulk and edge-state energy structures and Chern number depend on the spin liquid phases and hopping parameters because the local spontaneous magnetic flux in the spin liquid phase breaks the time reversal and space inversion symmetries. We give the characteristics of bulk and edge energy structures and their corresponding Chern numbe…
In this paper, we studied the doped Z2 topological spin liquid of the toric-code model. We found that the doped holes become supersymmetric particles. The ground state of the doped Z2 topological spin liquid becomes new matters of quantum states - supersymmetric Bose-Einstein condensation or supersymmetric superfluid. As a result, this system provides a unique example of manipulatable supersymmetric many-body system.
Gapped non-liquid state (also known as fracton state) is a very special gapped quantum state of matter that is characterized by a microscopic cellular structure. Such microscopic cellular structure has a macroscopic effect at arbitrary long distances and cannot be removed by renormalization group flow, which makes gapped non-liquid state beyond the description of topological quantum field theory with a finite number of fields. Using Abelian and non-Abelian topological orders in 2-dimensional (2d) space and the different ways to glue them together via their gapped boundaries, we propose a syste…
The sliding Luttinger liquids (LL) approach is applied to study fractional topological insulators (FTI). We show that FTI is the low energy fixed point of the theory for realistic spin-orbit and electron-electron interaction. We find that the topological phase pertains in the presence of interaction that breaks the spin invariance and its boundaries are even extended by those terms. Finally we show that one dimensional chiral anomaly in the LL leads to the emergence of topological Chern-Simons terms in the effective gauge theory of the FTI state.
Topological insulators and superconductors at finite temperature can be characterized by the topological Uhlmann phase. However, a direct experimental measurement of this invariant has remained elusive in condensed matter systems. Here, we report a measurement of the topological Uhlmann phase for a topological insulator simulated by a system of entangled qubits in the IBM Quantum Experience platform. By making use of ancilla states, otherwise unobservable phases carrying topological information about the system become accessible, enabling the experimental determination of a complete phase diag…
We have studied the formation of Hall-qubit (LLL state) in Quantum Hall effect due to the Aharonov-Bhom oscillation of quasiparticles. The spin echo method plays the key role in the topological entanglement of qubits. The proper ratio of fluxes for maximally entangling qubits has also been pointed out. The generation of higher Quantum Hall state may be possible with the help of quantum teleportation.
We study the Fermi surface topological transition of the pocket-opening type in a two dimensional Fermi liquid with spin-orbit coupling of Rashba type. We find that the interactions, far from instabilities, drive the transition first order at zero temperature surprisingly in a more pronounced way than in the case of interacting Fermi liquid without spin-orbit coupling. We first gain insight from second order perturbation theory in the self-energy. We then extend the results to stronger interaction, using the self-consistent fluctuation approximation. We discuss existing experimental work on th…
We study entanglement properties of candidate wave-functions for SU(2) symmetric gapped spin liquids and Laughlin states. These wave-functions are obtained by the Gutzwiller projection technique. Using Topological Entanglement Entropy γ as a tool, we establish topological order in chiral spin liquid and Z2 spin liquid wave-functions, as well as a lattice version of the Laughlin state. Our results agree very well with the field theoretic result γ=log D where D is the total quantum dimension of the phase. All calculations are done using a Monte Carlo technique on a 12 times 12 lattice enabling u…
The Landau paradigm of classifying phases by broken symmetries was demonstrated to be incomplete when it was realized that different quantum Hall states could only be distinguished by more subtle, topological properties. Today, the role of topology as an underlying description of order has branched out to include topological band insulators, and certain featureless gapped Mott insulators with a topological degeneracy in the groundstate wavefunction. Despite intense focus, very few candidates for these topologically ordered "spin liquids" exist. The main difficulty in finding systems that harbo…
We study the finite temperature nature of a quantum phase transition between an Abelian and a non-Abelian topological phase in an exactly solvable model of a chiral spin liquid. By virtue of the exact solvability, this model can serve as a testbed for developing better measures for describing topological quantum phase transitions. We characterize this phase transition in terms of the global flux and entanglement entropy, and discuss to what extent the existence of a topologically ordered ground state with non-Abelian excitations is revealed at finite temperature.
Quantum spin liquids are highly fascinating quantum liquids in which the spin degrees of freedom fractionalize. An interesting class of spin liquids are the exactly solvable, three-dimensional Kitaev spin liquids. Their fractionalized excitations are Majonara fermions, which may exhibit a variety of topological band structures --- ranging from topologically protected Weyl semi-metals over nodal semi-metals to systems with Majorana Fermi surfaces. We study the entanglement spectrum of such Kitaev spin liquids and verify that it is closely related to the topologically protected edge spectrum. Mo…
While the existence of a chiral spin liquid (CSL) on a class of spin-1/2 kagome antiferromagnets is by now well-established numerically, a controlled theoretical path from the lattice model leading to a low energy topological field theory is still lacking. This we provide via an explicit construction, starting from reformulating a microscopic model for a CSL as a lattice gauge theory, and deriving the low-energy form of its continuum limit. A crucial ingredient is the realisation that the bosonic spinons of the gauge theory exhibit a $U(1)$ symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phase, which upo…
We introduce a systematic construction of a gapless symmetry protected topological phase in one dimension by "decorating" the domain walls of Luttinger liquids. The resulting strongly interacting phases provide a concrete example of a gapless symmetry protected topological (gSPT) phase with robust symmetry-protected edge modes. Using boundary conformal field theory arguments, we show that while the bulks of such gSPT phases are identical to conventional Luttinger liquids, their boundary critical behavior is controlled by a different, strongly-coupled renormalization group fixed point. Our resu…
The book by Volovik [1] contains the argument, which can be considered as the topological proof of the Luttinger theorem. The Green function of the ideal Fermi gas has a pole in the (E,|p|) plane (where E and p are energy and momentum). This pole is considered to be analogous to a vortex in liquid helium. Since a vortex is topologically stable against restricted perturbations, one can include interaction adiabatically (as a succession of small perturbations), and observe transformation of the Fermi gas pole to the Fermi liquid pole. In this argument, the topological stability arises already on…
We show that a doped spin-1/2 ladder with antiferromagnetic intra-chain and ferromagnetic inter-chain coupling is a symmetry protected topologically non-trivial Luttinger liquid. Turning on a large easy-plane spin anisotropy drives the system to a topologically-trivial Luttinger liquid. Both phases have full spin gaps and exhibit power-law superconducting pair correlation. The Cooper pair symmetry is singlet $d_{xy}$ in the non-trivial phase and triplet $S_z=0$ in the trivial phase. The topologically non-trivial Luttinger liquid exhibits gapless spin excitations in the presence of a boundary, …
In this paper we review some connections recently discovered between topological insulators and certain classes of quantum spin liquids, focusing on two and three spatial dimensions. In two dimensions we show the integer quantum Hall effect plays a key role in relating topological insulators and chiral spin liquids described by fermionic excitations, and we describe a procedure for "generating" a certain class of topological states. In three dimensions we discuss interesting relationships between certain quantum spin liquids and interacting "exotic" variants of topological insulators. We focus…
Gapless Luttinger liquid is conventionally viewed as topologically trivial, unless it hosts degenerate ground states and or entanglement spectrum, which necessitates partial bulk degree of freedom to be gapped out. Here we predict an emergent gapless topological Luttinger liquid which is beyond the conventional scenarios and is characterized by the nontrivial many-body bulk spin texture, and propose feasible scheme for experimental observation. We consider a one-dimensional spin-orbit coupled Fermi-Hubbard model with fractional filling, whose low-energy physics is effectively described by a sp…
We find an exact spin liquid state without time reversal symmetry on the kagome lattice with odd number of electrons per unit cell and explicit wave functions for all eigenstates. We also obtain that all spin-spin correlations are zero except trivial cases. We then show that there are anyonic excitations in our model. Finally, we demonstrate the existence of ground state degeneracy and gapless edge states indicating nontrivial topological order in our model. We also label all eiginstates on torus by local and global string operators.
We present a large class of three-dimensional spin models that possess topological order with stability against local perturbations, but are beyond description of topological quantum field theory. Conventional topological spin liquids, on a formal level, may be viewed as condensation of string-like extended objects with discrete gauge symmetries, being at fixed points with continuous scale symmetries. In contrast, ground states of fractal spin liquids are condensation of highly-fluctuating fractal objects with certain algebraic symmetries, corresponding to limit cycles under real-space renorma…
Introducing both Berry curvature and chiral anomaly into Landau's Fermi-liquid theory, we construct a topological Fermi-liquid theory, applicable to interacting Weyl metals in the absence of time reversal symmetry. Following the Landau's Fermi-liquid theory, we obtain an effective free-energy functional in terms of the density field of chiral fermions. The density field of chiral fermions is determined by a self-consistent equation, minimizing the effective free-energy functional with respect to the order-parameter field. Beyond these thermodynamic properties, we construct Boltzmann transport …
We extend the Yao-Kivelson decorated honeycomb lattice Kitaev model [Phys. Rev. Lett. 99,247203 (2007)] of an exactly solvable chiral spin liquid by including disordered exchange couplings. We have determined the phase diagram of this system and found that disorder enlarges the region of the topological non-Abelian phase with finite Chern number. We study the energy level statistics as a function of disorder and other parameters in the Hamiltonian, and show that the phase transition between the non-Abelian and Abelian phases of the model at large disorder can be associated with pair annihilati…
Topology plays a central role in ensuring the robustness of a wide variety of physical phenomena. Notable examples range from the robust current carrying edge states associated with the quantum Hall and the quantum spin Hall effects to proposals involving topologically protected quantum memory and quantum logic operations. Here, we propose and analyze a topologically protected channel for the transfer of quantum states between remote quantum nodes. In our approach, state transfer is mediated by the edge mode of a chiral spin liquid. We demonstrate that the proposed method is intrinsically robu…
Two-dimensional magnetic insulators exhibit a plethora of competing ground states, such as ordered (anti)ferromagnets, exotic quantum spin liquid states with topological order and anyonic excitations, and random singlet phases emerging in highly disordered frustrated magnets. Here we show how single spin qubits, which interact directly with the low-energy excitations of magnetic insulators, can be used as a diagnostic of magnetic ground states. Experimentally tunable parameters, such as qubit level splitting, sample temperature, and qubit-sample distance, can be used to measure spin correlatio…
There is a class of electronic liquids in dimensions greater than one, which show all essential properties of one dimensional electronic physics. These are topological liquids - correlated electronic systems with a spectral flow. Compressible topological electronic liquids are superfluids. In this paper we present a study of a conventional model of a topological superfluid in two spatial dimensions. This model is thought to be relevant to a doped Mott insulator. We show how the spectral flow leads to the superfluid hydrodynamics and how the Orthogonality Catastrophe affects off-diagonal matrix…
We study the origin of Lorentz force on the spinons in a U(1) spin liquid. We are inspired by the previous observation of gauge field correlation in the pairwise spin correlation using the neutron scattering measurement when the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction intertwines with the lattice geometry. We extend this observation to the Lorentz force that exerts on the (neutral) spinons. The external magnetic field, that polarizes the spins, effectively generates an internal U(1) gauge flux for the spinons and twists the spinon motion through the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Such a mechanis…
