The uncertainty of a quantum state is given by the composition of two components. The first is called the quantum component and is given by the probability distribution of an observable relative to the state. The second is the classical component which is an uncertainty function that is applied to the first component. We characterize uncertainty functions in terms of four axioms. We then study four examples called variance, entropy, geometric and sine uncertainty functions. The final section presents the general theory of state uncertainty.
Uncertainty principle has a fundamental role in quantum theory. This principle states that it is not possible to measure two incompatible observers simultaneously. The uncertainty principle is expressed logically in terms of standard deviation of the measured observables. In quantum information it has been shown that the uncertainty principle can be expressed by means of Shannon's entropy. Entropic uncertainty relation can be improve by consider an additional particle as the quantum memory. In the presence of quantum memory the entropic uncertainty relation is called quantum memory assisted en…
This paper deduces universal uncertainty principle in different quantum theories after about one century of proposing uncertainty principle by Heisenberg, i.e., new universal uncertainty principle of any orders of physical quantities in quantum physics, overcomes the difficulty that current quantum computer, quantum communication, quantum control, quantum mechanics and so on theories cannot give exact values of general uncertainty of any orders of physical quantities, further gives all relevant different expressions of the universal uncertainty principle and their applications. In fact, our st…
Uncertainty relation is a fundamental issue in quantum mechanics and quantum information theory. By using modified generalized variance (MGV), and modified generalized Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information (MGWYD), we identify the total and quantum uncertainty of quantum channels. The elegant properties of the total uncertainty of quantum channels are explored in detail. In addition, we present a trade-off relation between the total uncertainty of quantum channels and the entanglement fidelity and establish the relationships between the total uncertainty and entropy exchange/coherent informatio…
Uncertainty relations take a crucial and fundamental part in the frame of quantum theory, and are bringing on many marvelous applications in the emerging field of quantum information sciences. Especially, as entropy is imposed into the uncertainty principle, entropy-based uncertainty relations lead to a number of applications including quantum key distribution, entanglement witness, quantum steering, quantum metrology, and quantum teleportation. Herein, the history of the development of the uncertainty relations is discussed, especially focusing on the recent progress with regard to quantum-me…
Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, which imposes intrinsic restrictions on our ability to predict the outcomes of incompatible quantum measurements to arbitrary precision, demonstrates one of the key differences between classical and quantum mechanics. The physical systems considered in the uncertainty principle are static in nature and described mathematically with a quantum state in a Hilbert space. However, many physical systems are dynamic in nature and described with the formalism of a quantum channel. In this paper, we show that the uncertainty principle can be reformulated to include p…
Uncertainty principle is an inherent nature of quantum system that undermines the precise measurement of incompatible observables and hence the applications of quantum theory. Entanglement, another unique feature of quantum physics, was found may help to reduce the quantum uncertainty. In this paper, we propose a practical method to reduce the one party measurement uncertainty by determining the measurement on the other party of an entangled bipartite system. In light of this method, a family of conditional majorization uncertainty relations in the presence of quantum memory is constructed, wh…
Textbook quantum mechanics treats time as a classical parameter, and not as a quantum observable with an associated Hermitian operator. For this reason, to make sense of usual time-energy uncertainty relations such as $Δ{t}ΔE\gtrsim\hbar$, the term $Δt$ must be interpreted as a time interval, and not as a time measurement uncertainty due to quantum noise. However, quantum clocks allow for a measurement of the "time at which an event happens" by conditioning the system's evolution on an additional quantum degree of freedom. Within this framework, we derive here two {\em true} uncertainty relati…
Uncertainty principle plays a vital role in quantum physics. The Wigner-Yanase skew information characterizes the uncertainty of an observable with respect to the measured state. We generalize the uncertainty relations for two quantum channels to arbitrary N quantum channels based on Wigner-Yanase skew information. We illustrate that these uncertainty inequalities are tighter than the existing ones by detailed examples. Especially, we also discuss the uncertainty relations for N unitary channels, which could be regarded as variance-based sum uncertainty relations with respect to any pure state…
In this work we will study the Local quantum Fisher information and the local quantum uncertainty in two-qubit Heisenberg XYZ spin chain model with Dzyaloshinskii Moriya (DM) interaction in z direction. Here we show that the DM interaction and spin interactions along the x, y, and z axis can increase and maintain local quantum Fisher information and local quantum uncertainty. It is also shown that because of thermal fluctuations local quantum Fisher information and local quantum uncertainty are decreased by increasing temperature. They are equal to one at very low temperature and starts to dec…
Quantum discord and quantum uncertainty are two important features of the quantum world. In this work, the relation between entropic uncertainty relation and the shareability of quantum discord is studied. First, by using tripartite quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation, an upper bound for the shareability of quantum discord among different partites of a composite system is obtained. It is also shown that, for a specific class of tripartite states, the obtained relation could be expressed as monogamy of quantum discord. Moreover, it is illustrated that the relation could be gen…
Given two or more non-commuting observables, it is generally not possible to simultaneously assign precise values to each. This quantum mechanical uncertainty principle is widely understood to be encapsulated by some form of uncertainty relation, expressing a trade-off between the standard deviations or other measures of uncertainty of two (or more) observables, resulting from their non-commutativity. Typically, such relations are coarse, and miss important features. It was not until very recently that a broader perspective on quantum uncertainty was envisaged and explored, one that utilises t…
The emergence of the generalized uncertainty principle and the existence of a non-zero minimal length are intertwined. On the other hand, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle forms the core of the EPR paradox. Subsequently, here, the implications of resorting to the generalized uncertainty principle (or equally, the minimal length) instead of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle on the quantum non-locality are investigated through focusing on the Franson experiment in which the uncertainty relation is the backbone of understanding and explaining the results.
Since the uncertainty about an observable of a system prepared in a quantum state is usually described by its variance, when the state is mixed, the variance is a hybrid of quantum and classical uncertainties. Besides that, complementarity relations are saturated only for pure, single-quanton, quantum states. For mixed states, the wave-particle quantifiers never saturate the complementarity relation and can even reach zero for a maximally mixed state. So, to fully characterize a quanton it is not sufficient to consider its wave-particle aspect; one has also to regard its correlations with othe…
The uncertainty principle and entanglement are two fundamental, but yet not well understood, features of quantum theory. The uncertainty relation reflects the capability limit in acquiring the knowledge of different physical properties of a particle simultaneously, while on the other side, the quantum entanglement renders the entangled quanta lose their independence, including measurements imposed on them. By virtue of the majorization, here we establish a general correlation relation for quantum uncertainty and multipartite entanglement. Within this scheme, the optimization problems for entro…
Based on the statistical concept of the median, we propose a quantum uncertainty relation between semi-interquartile ranges of the position and momentum distributions of arbitrary quantum states. The relation is universal, unlike that based on the mean and standard deviation, as the latter may become non-existent or ineffective in certain cases. We show that the median-based one is not saturated for Gaussian distributions in position. Instead, the Cauchy-Lorentz distributions in position turn out to be the one with the minimal uncertainty, among the states inspected, implying that the minimum-…
Quantum uncertainty relations have deep-rooted significance on the formalism of quantum mechanics. Heisenberg's uncertainty relations attracted a renewed interest for its applications in quantum information science. Robertson derived a general form of Heisenberg's uncertainty relations for a pair of arbitrary observables represented by Hermitian operators. In the present work, we discover a temporal version of the Heisenberg-Robertson uncertainty relations for the measurement of two observables at two different times, where the dynamical uncertainties crucially depend on the time evolution of …
The measurement apparatus proposed in the titled paper, "Energy-Time Uncertainty Relations in Quantum Measurements" [Found. Phys. 46, 1522-1550 (2016)] was examined. A simple proof was presented for the non-existence of the apparatus.
In this paper, we show an interesting connection between a quantum sampling technique and quantum uncertainty. Namely, we use the quantum sampling technique, introduced by Bouman and Fehr, to derive a novel entropic uncertainty relation based on smooth min entropy, the binary Shannon entropy of an observed outcome, and the probability of failure of a classical sampling strategy. We then show two applications of our new relation. First, we use it to develop a simple proof of a version of the Maassen and Uffink uncertainty relation. Second, we show how it may be applied to quantum random number …
Prompted by the open questions in Gibilisco [Int. J. Software Informatics, 8(3-4): 265, 2014], in which he introduced a family of measurement-induced quantum uncertainty measures via metric adjusted skew informations, we investigate these measures' fundamental properties (including basis independence and spectral representation), and illustrate their applications to detect quantum nonlocality and entanglement.
Nonlocality, which is the key feature of quantum theory, has been linked with the uncertainty principle by fine-grained uncertainty relations, by considering combinations of outcomes for different measurements. However, this approach assumes that information about the system to be fine-grained is local, and does not present an explicitly computable bound. Here, we generalize above approach to general quasi-fine-grained uncertainty relations (QFGURs) which applies in the presence of quantum memory and provides conspicuously computable bounds to quantitatively link the uncertainty to entanglemen…
We present uncertainty relations based on Wigner--Yanase--Dyson skew information with quantum memory. Uncertainty inequalities both in product and summation forms are derived. \mbox{It is} shown that the lower bounds contain two terms: one characterizes the degree of compatibility of two measurements, and the other is the quantum correlation between the measured system and the quantum memory. Detailed examples are given for product, separable and entangled states.
Uncertainty principle plays a crucial role in quantum mechanics, because it captures the essence of the inevitable randomness associated with the outcomes of two incompatible quantum measurements. Information entropy can perfectly describe this type of randomness in information theory, because entropy can measure the degree of chaos in a given quantum system. However, the quantum-assisted uncertainty of entropy eventually inflate inevitably as the quantum correlations of the system are progressively corrupted by noise from the surrounding environment. In this paper, we investigate the dynamica…
To find the essential nature of quantum theory has been an important problem for not only theoretical interest but also applications to quantum technologies. In those studies on quantum foundations, the notion of uncertainty plays a primary role among several stunning features of quantum theory. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate fundamental aspects of uncertainty. In particular, we address this problem focusing on convexity, which has an operational origin. We first try to reveal why in quantum theory similar bounds are often obtained for two types of uncertainty relations, namely, …
The quantum component in uncertainty relation can be naturally characterized by the quantum coherence of a quantum state, which is of paramount importance in quantum information science. Here, we experimentally investigate quantum uncertainty relations construed with relative entropy of coherence, $l_1$ norm of coherence and coherence of formation. In stead of quantum state tomographic technology, we employ the classical shadow algorithm for the detection of lower bounds in quantum uncertainty relations. With an all optical setup, we prepare a family of quantum states whose purity can be fully…
We derive the analytical expression of local quantum uncertainty for three-qubit X-states. We give also the expressions of quantum discord and the negativity. A comparison of these three quantum correlations quantifiers is discussed in the special cases of mixed GHZ states and Bell-type states. We find that local quantum uncertainty gives the same amount of non-classical correlations as are measured by entropic quantum discord and goes beyond negativity. We also discuss the dynamics of non-classical correlations under the effect of phase damping, depolarizing and phase reversal channels. We fi…
Uncertainty principle is one of the central concepts in quantum theory. Different forms of this particular principle have been discoursed in various foundational and information theoretic topics. In the discrete input-output scenario the limited nonlocal behavior of quantum theory has been explained by fine-grained uncertainty relation. On the other hand, in continuous variable paradigm Robertson-Schrodinger (RS) uncertainty relation has been used to detect multi-mode entanglement. Here we show that RS uncertainty relation plays an important role to discriminate between quantum and post-quantu…
