In this article, our aim is to extend the research conducted by Kurokawa and Wakayama in 2003, particularly focusing on the $q$-analogue of the Hurwitz zeta function. Our specific emphasis lies in exploring the coefficients in the Laurent series expansion of a $q$-analogue of the Hurwitz zeta function around $s=1$. We establish the closed-form expressions for the first two coefficients in the Laurent series of the $q$-Hurwitz zeta function. Additionally, utilizing the reflection formula for the digamma function and the identity of Bernoulli polynomials, we explore transcendence results related to $γ_0(q,x)$ for $q>1$ and $0 < x <1$, where $γ_0(q,x)$ is the constant term which appears in the Laurent series expansion of $q$-Hurwitz zeta function around $s=1$.
Furthermore, we put forth a conjecture about the linear independence of special values of $γ_0(q,x)$ along with $1$ at rational arguments with co-prime conditions, over the field of rational numbers. Finally, we show that at least one more than half of the numbers are linearly independent over the field of rationals.
The connection between derivatives of $L(s,f)$ for periodic arithmetical functions $f$ at $s=1$ and generalized Stieltjes constants has been noted earlier. In this paper, we utilize this link to throw light on the arithmetic nature of $L'(1,f)$ and certain Stieltjes constants. In particular, if $p$ is an odd prime greater than $7$, then we deduce the transcendence of at least $(p-7)/2$ of the generalized Stieltjes constants, $\{ γ_1(a,p) : 1 \leq a < p \}$, conditional on a conjecture of S. Gun, M. R. Murty and P. Rath.

The purpose of this article is twofold. First, we introduce the constants $ζ_k(α,r,q)$ where $α\in (0,1)$ and study them along the lines of work done on Euler constant in arithmetic progression $γ(r,q)$ by Briggs, Dilcher, Knopfmacher, Lehmer and some other authors. These constants are used for evaluation of certain integrals involving error term for Dirichlet divisor problem with congruence conditions and also to provide a closed form expression for the value of a class of Dirichlet L-series at any real critical point. In the second half of this paper, we consider the behaviour of the Laurent…
Following recent work of the author, partly in collaboration with T. Dupuy and M. Barrett, we describe arithmetic analogues of some key concepts from Riemannian geometry such as: metrics, Chern connections, curvature, etc. Theorems are stated to the effect that the spectrum of the integers has a non-vanishing curvature.
This paper is part of a series of papers where an arithmetic analogue of classical differential geometry is being developed. In this arithmetic differential geometry functions are replaced by integer numbers, derivations are replaced by Fermat quotient operators, and connections (respectively curvature) are replaced by certain adelic (respectively global) objects attached to symmetric matrices with integral coefficients. Previous papers were devoted to an arithmetic analogue of the Chern connection. The present paper is devoted to an arithmetic analogue of the Levi-Civita connection.
In connection with our previous work on semi-galois categories, this paper proves an arithmetic analogue of Christol's theorem concerning an automata-theoretic characterization of when a formal power series over finite field is algebraic over the polynomial ring. There are by now several variants of Christol's theorem, all of which are concerned with rings of positive characteristic. This paper provides an arithmetic (or F_1) variant of Christol's theorem in the sense that it replaces the polynomial ring with the ring of integers of a number field and the ring of formal power series with the r…
The theory of differential equations has an arithmetic analogue in which derivatives are replaced by Fermat quotients. One can then ask what is the arithmetic analogue of a linear differential equation. The study of usual linear differential equations is the same as the study of the differential cocycle from $GL_n$ into its Lie algebra given by the logarithmic derivative. However we prove here that there are no such cocycles in the context of arithmetic differential equations. In sequels of this paper we will remedy the situation by introducing arithmetic analogues of Lie algebras and a skew v…
Differential equations have arithmetic analogues in which derivatives are replaced by Fermat quotients; these analogues are called arithmetic differential equations and the present paper is concerned with the "linear" ones. The equations themselves were introduced in a previous paper. In the present paper we deal with the solutions of these equations as well as with the differential Galois groups attached to the solutions.
This is the second paper in a series devoted to developing an arithmetic PDE analogue of Riemannian geometry. In Part 1 arithmetic PDE analogues of Levi-Civita and Chern connections were introduced and studied. In this paper arithmetic analogues of curvature and characteristic classes are developed.
In this paper, we give a new proof of an arithmetic analogue of the Riemann-Roch Theorem, due originally to Serge Lang. Lang's result was first proved using the lattice point geometry of Minkowski. By contrast, our proof is completely adelic. It has the conceptual advantage that it uses a different analogue of the Riemann-Roch theorem proved by Tate in his thesis, in a manner similar to the proof of the Riemann-Roch theorem for curves over finite fields which uses Tate's theorem. Thus our proof provides a bridge between a lot of the Riemann-Roch theory that exists in arithmetic.
We study short sums of algebraic trace functions via the $q$-analogue of van der Corput method, and develop methods of arithmetic exponent pairs that coincide with the classical case while the moduli has sufficiently good factorizations. As an application, we prove a quadratic analogue of Brun-Titchmarsh theorem on average, bounding the number of primes $p\leqslant X$ with $p^2+1\equiv0\pmod q$. The other two applications include a larger level of distribution of divisor functions in arithmetic progressions and a sub-Weyl subconvex bound of Dirichlet $L$-functions studied previously by Irving.
Grothendieck's conjecture on p-curvatures predicts that an arithmetic differential equation has a full set of algebraic solutions if and only if its reduction in positive characteristic has a full set of rational solutions for almost all finite places. It is equivalent to Katz's conjectural description of the generic Galois group. In this paper we prove an analogous statement for arithmetic q-difference equation.
In the arithmetic of function fields, Drinfeld modules play the role that elliptic curves play in the arithmetic of number fields. The aim of this paper is to study a non-existence problem of Drinfeld modules with constrains on torsion points at places with large degree. This is motivated by a conjecture of Christopher Rasmussen and Akio Tamagawa on the non-existence of abelian varieties over number fields with some arithmetic constraints. We prove the non-existence of Drinfeld modules satisfying Rasmussen-Tamagawa type conditions in the case where the inseparable degree of base fields is not …
We give arithmetic formulas for the coefficients of Hauptmoduln of higher levels as analogues of Kaneko's result. We also obtain their asymptotic formulas by employing Murty-Sampath's method.
We use a function field analogue of a method of Selberg to derive an asymptotic formula for the number of (square-free) monic polynomials in $\mathbb{F}_q[X]$ of degree $n$ with precisely $k$ irreducible factors, in the limit as $n$ tends to infinity. We then adapt this method to count such polynomials in arithmetic progressions and short intervals, and by making use of Weil's `Riemann hypothesis' for curves over $\mathbb{F}_q$, obtain better ranges for these formulae than are currently known for their analogues in the number field setting. Finally, we briefly discuss the regime in which $q$ t…
By using the $q$-analogue of van der Corput's method we study the divisor function in an arithmetic progression to modulus $q$. We show that the expected asymptotic formula holds for a larger range of $q$ than was previously known, provided that $q$ has a certain factorisation.
We prove the analogue of an identity of Huard, Ou, Spearman and Williams and apply it to evaluate a variety of sums involving divisor functions in two variables. It turns out that these sums count representations of positive integers involving radicals.
Let k be an algebraically closed field complete with respect to a non-Archimedean absolute value of arbitrary characteristic. Let D_1,...,D_n be effective nef divisors intersecting transversally in an n-dimensional nonsingular projective variety X. We study the degeneracy of non-Archimedean analytic maps from k into $X\setminus \cup_{i=1}^nD_i$ under various geometric conditions. When X is a rational ruled surface and D_1 and D_2 are ample, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition such that there is no non-Archimedean analytic map from k into $X\setminus D_1 \cup D_2$. Using a dictionary…
Arithmetic differential equations are analogues of algebraic differential equations in which derivative operators acting on functions are replaced by Fermat quotient operators acting on numbers. Now, various remarkable transcendental functions are solutions to algebraic differential equations; in this note we show that, in a similar way, some remarkable transcendental numbers (including certain "periods") are solutions to arithmetic differential equations. Inspired by a recent paper of Manin, we then speculate on the possibility of understanding the algebraic relations among periods via Galois…
We prove an analogue for algebraic stacks of Hermite-Minkowski's finiteness theorem from algebraic number theory, and establish a Chevalley-Weil type theorem for integral points on stacks. As an application of our results, we prove analogues of the Shafarevich conjecture for some surfaces of general type.
We develop an arithmetic analogue of elliptic partial differential equations. The role of the space coordinates is played by a family of primes, and that of the space derivatives along the various primes are played by corresponding Fermat quotient operators subjected to certain commutation relations. This leads to arithmetic linear partial differential equations on algebraic groups that are analogues of certain operators in analysis constructed from Laplacians. We classify all such equations on one dimensional groups, and analyze their spaces of solutions.
We state and investigate an integral analogue of the André-Oort conjecture (in integral models of Shimura varieties). We establish an instance of this conjecture: the case of a modular curve, as a scheme over Z. It is a scheme of dimension two and, already in this case, our conjecture is highly non-trivial. Our approach relies on equidistribution estimates related to subconvexity in analytic number theory and our result is unconditional.
Let $\mathbb{A}=\mathbb{F}_{q}[T]$ be the polynomial ring over finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$, and $\mathbb{A}_{+}$ be the set of monic polynomials in $\mathbb{A}$. In this paper, we show that a large class of arithmetic functions in multi-variables over $\mathbb{A}_{+}$ can be expanded through the polynomial Ramanujan sums and the unitary polynomial Ramanujan sums. These are analogues of classical results over $\mathbb{N}$ by Winter, Delange and Tóth.
We present basic constructions and properties in arithmetic Chern-Simons theory with finite gauge group along the line of topological quantum field theory. For a finite set $S$ of finite primes of a number field $k$, we construct arithmetic analogues of the Chern-Simons 1-cocycle, the prequantization bundle for a surface and the Chern-Simons functional for a $3$-manifold. We then construct arithmetic analogues for $k$ and $S$ of the quantum Hilbert space (space of conformal blocks) and the Dijkgraaf-Witten partition function in (2+1)-dimensional Chern-Simons TQFT. We show some basic and functo…
We introduce new analogues of the Ramanujan sums, denoted by $\widetilde{c}_q(n)$, associated with unitary divisors, and obtain results concerning the expansions of arithmetic functions of several variables with respect to the sums $\widetilde{c}_q(n)$. We apply these results to certain functions associated with $σ^*(n)$ and $ϕ^*(n)$, representing the unitary sigma function and unitary phi function, respectively.
Arithmetic dynamics is the study of number theoretic properties of dynamical systems. A relatively new field, it draws inspiration partly from dynamical analogues of theorems and conjectures in classical arithmetic geometry, and partly from $p$-adic analogues of theorems and conjectures in classical complex dynamics. In this article we survey some of the motivating problems and some of the recent progress in the field of arithmetic dynamics.
In this article, we consider an analogue of Arakelov theory of arithmetic surfaces over a trivially valued field. In particular, we establish an arithmetic Hilbert-Samuel theorem and studies the effectivity up to R-linear equivalence of pseudoeffective metrised R-divisors.
In this paper, we will define analogues of multiple zeta values by replacing the differential forms defining multiple zeta values with some $\mathbb{Q}$-rational differential forms on the Fermat curve $F_2$ of degree 2 and discuss their arithmetic properties. We also investigate a motivic structure of the motivic periods corresponding to our periods. However, in order to study them, the current theory for motivic zeta elements is insufficient, and it leads us to study the base extension of the space of the motivic periods $\mathcal{H}_4$ of level 4 and its Galois invariant part.
The auto-correlations of arithmetic functions, such as the von Mangoldt function, the Möbius function and the divisor function, are the subject of classical problems in analytic number theory. The function field analogues of these problems have recently been resolved in the limit of large finite field size $q$. However, in this limit the correlations disappear: the arithmetic functions become uncorrelated. We compute averages of terms of lower order in $q$ which detect correlations. Our results show that there is considerable cancellation in the averaging and have implications for the rate at …
Based on the analogies between mapping class groups and absolute Galois groups, we introduce an arithmetic pro-$\ell$ analogue of Orr invariants for a Galois element associated with Galois action on étale fundamental groups of punctured projective lines. At the same time, we also introduce pro-$\ell$ Orr space as an arithmetic analogue of Orr space whose third homotopy group is a target group of Orr invariant. We then determine its rank as $\mathbb{Z}_{\ell}$-module following Igusa-Orr's computation. Moreover, we investigate its relation with Ellenberg's obstruction to $π_1$-sections associate…
We investigate a function field analogue of a recent conjecture on autocorrelations of sums of two squares by Freiberg, Kurlberg and Rosenzweig, which generalizes an older conjecture by Connors and Keating. In particular, we provide extensive numerical evidence and prove it in the large finite field limit. Our method can also handle correlations of other arithmetic functions and we give applications to (function field analogues of) the average of sums of two squares on shifted primes, and to autocorrelations of higher divisor functions twisted by a quadratic character.
We introduce the volume function for hermitian invertible sheaves on an arithmetic variety as an analogue of the geometric volume function. The main result of this paper is the continuity of the arithmetic volume function. As a consequence, we have the arithmetic Hilbert-Samuel formula for a nef hermitian invertible sheaf. We also give another several applications, for example, a generalized Hodge index theorem, an arithmetic Bogomolov-Gieseker's inequality, etc.
This is the first in a series on papers developing an arithmetic PDE analogue of Riemannian geometry. The role of partial derivatives is played by Fermat quotient operations with respect to several Frobenius elements in the absolute Galois group of a $p$-adic field. Existence and uniqueness of geodesics and of Levi-Civita and Chern connections are proved in this context. In a sequel to this paper a theory of arithmetic Riemannian curvature and characteristic classes will be developed.
In 1935 Carlitz introduced Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers as analogues of Bernoulli numbers for the rational function field $\mathbb F_r(T)$. In this paper, we introduce Cauchy-Carlitz numbers as analogues of Cauchy numbers. By using Stirling-Carlitz numbers, we give their arithmetical and combinatorial properties and relations with Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers for $\mathbb F_r(T)$. Several new identities are also obtained by using Hasse-Teichimüller derivatives.
Minhyong Kim introduced arithmetic Chern-Simons invariants for totally imaginary number fields as arithmetic analogues of the Chern-Simons invariants for 3-manifolds. In this paper, we extend Kim's definition for any number field, by using the modified étale cohomology groups and fundamental groups which take real places into account. We then show explicit formulas of mod 2 arithmetic Dijkgraaf-Witten invariants for real quadratic fields $\mathbb{Q} (\sqrt{p_1 p_2 \cdots p_r})$, where $p_i$ is a prime number congruent to 1 mod 4, in terms of the Legendre symbols of $p_i$'s. We also show topolo…
In this paper, we would like to propose a fundamental question about a higher dimensional analogue of Dirichlet's unit theorem. We also give a partial answer to the question as an application of the arithmetic Hodge index theorem.
The generalized Fibonacci sequences are sequences $\{f_n\}$ which satisfy the recurrence $f_n(s, t) = sf_{n - 1}(s, t) + tf_{n - 2}(s, t)$ ($s, t \in \mathbb{Z}$) with initial conditions $f_0(s, t) = 0$ and $f_1(s, t) = 1$. In a recent paper, Amdeberhan, Chen, Moll, and Sagan considered some arithmetic properites of the generalized Fibonacci sequence. Specifically, they considered the behavior of analogues of the $p$-adic valuation and the Riemann zeta function. In this paper, we resolve some conjectures which they raised relating to these topics. We also consider the rank modulo $n$ in more d…
We establish the equivalence of conjectures concerning the pair correlation of zeros of $L$-functions in the Selberg class and the variances of sums of a related class of arithmetic functions over primes in short intervals. This extends the results of Goldston & Montgomery [7] and Montgomery & Soundararajan [11] for the Riemann zeta-function to other $L$-functions in the Selberg class. Our approach is based on the statistics of the zeros because the analogue of the Hardy-Littlewood conjecture for the auto-correlation of the arithmetic functions we consider is not available in general. One of o…
Lazarsfeld and Mustata propose general and systematic usage of Okounkov's idea in order to study asymptotic behavior of linear series on an algebraic variety. It is a very simple way, but it yields a lot of consequences, like Fujita's approximation theorem. Yuan generalized this way to the arithmetic situation, and he established the arithmetic Fujita's approximation theorem, which was also proved by Chen independently. In this paper, we introduce arithmetic linear series and give a general way to estimate them based on Yuan's idea. As an application, we consider an arithmetic analogue of the …
