In this monograph, we formulated the sufficient conditions of the Abel-Lidskii basis property for a sectorial operator. Having studied such an operator class, we strengthened the conditions regarding the semi-angle of the sector and weakened a great deal conditions regarding the involved parameters. Thus, we clarified the results by Lidskii V.B. devoted to the decomposition on the root vector system of the non-selfadjoint operator. We used a technique of the entire function theory and introduced the so-called Schatten-von Neumann class of the convergence exponent. Having considered strictly accretive operators satisfying special conditions formulated in terms of the norm and used a sequence of contours of the power type, we invented a peculiar method how to calculate a contour integral involved in the problem. Finally, we consider evolution equations in the abstract Hilbert space.
Area integral functions are introduced for sectorial operators on Hilbert spaces. We establish the equivalence relationship between the square and area integral functions. This immediately extends McIntosh/Yagi's results on $H^{\8}$ functional calculus of sectorial operators on Hilbert spaces to the case when the square functions are replaced by the area integral functions.
We study the product formula $(fg)(A) = f(A)g(A)$ in the framework of (unbounded) functional calculus of sectorial operators $A$. We give an abstract result, and, as corollaries, we obtain new product formulas for the holomorphic functional calculus, an extended Stieltjes functional calculus and an extended Hille-Phillips functional calculus. Our results generalise previous work of Hirsch, Martinez and Sanz, and Schilling.
This paper is devoted to the multivariable $H^\infty$ functional calculus associated with a finite commuting family of sectorial operators on Banach space. First we prove that if $(A_1,\ldots, A_d)$ is such a family, if $A_k$ is $R$-sectorial of $R$-type $ω_k\in(0,π)$, $k=1,\ldots,d$, and if $(A_1,\ldots, A_d)$ admits a bounded $H^\infty(Σ_{θ_1}\times \cdots\timesΣ_{θ_d})$ joint functional calculus for some $θ_k\in (ω_k,π)$, then it admits a bounded $H^\infty(Σ_{θ_1}\times \cdots\timesΣ_{θ_d})$ joint functional calculus for all $θ_k\in (ω_k,π)$, $k=1,\ldots,d$. Second we introduce square funct…
In this paper, a new axiomatization for unbounded functional calculi is proposed and the associated theory is elaborated comprising, among others, uniqueness and compatibility results and extension theorems of algebraic and topological nature. In contrast to earlier approaches, no commutativity assumptions need to be made about the underlying algebras. In a second part, the abstract theory is illustrated in familiar situations (sectorial operators, semigroup generators, normal operators). New topological extension theorems are proved for the sectorial calculus and the Hille--Phillips calculus.…
We introduce a notion of generalized Triebel-Lizorkin spaces associated with sectorial operators in Banach function spaces. Our approach is based on holomorphic functional calculus techniques. Using the concept of $\mathcal{R}_s$-sectorial operators, which in turn is based on the notion of $\mathcal{R}_s$-bounded sets of operators introduced by Lutz Weis, we obtain a neat theory including equivalence of various norms and a precise description of real and complex interpolation spaces. Another main result of this article is that an $\mathcal{R}_s$-sectorial operator always has a bounded $H^\inft…
We introduce and investigate $H^\infty$-functional calculus for commuting finite families of Ritt operators on Banach space $X$. We show that if either $X$ is a Banach lattice or $X$ or $X^*$ has property $(α)$, then a commuting $d$-tuple $(T_1,\ldots, T_d)$ of Ritt operators on $X$ has an $H^\infty$ joint functional calculus if and only if each $T_k$ admits an $H^\infty$ functional calculus. Next for $p\in(1,\infty)$, we characterize commuting $d$-tuple of Ritt operators on $L^p(Ω)$ which admit an $H^\infty$ joint functional calculus, by a joint dilation property. We also obtain a similar cha…
In this work we investigate semigroups of operators acting on noncommutative $L^p$-spaces. We introduce noncommutative square functions and their connection to sectoriality, variants of Rademacher sectoriality, and $H^\infty$ functional calculus. We discuss several examples of noncommutative diffusion semigroups. This includes Schur multipliers, $q$-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroups, and the noncommutative Poisson semigroup on free groups.
We develop a very general operator-valued functional calculus for operators with an $H^{\infty}-$calculus. We then apply this to the joint functional calculus of two commuting sectorial operators when one has an $H^{\infty}$calculus. Using this we prove theorem of Dore-Venni type on sums of commuting sectorial operators and apply our results to the problem of $L_p-$maximal regularity. Our main assumption is the R-boundedness of certain sets of operators, and therefore methods from the geometry of Banach spaces are essential here. In the final section we exploit the special Banach space structu…
We prove Paley-Littlewood decompositions for the scales of fractional powers of $0$-sectorial operators $A$ on a Banach space which correspond to Triebel-Lizorkin spaces and the scale of Besov spaces if $A$ is the classical Laplace operator on $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n).$We use the $H^\infty$-calculus, spectral multiplier theorems and generalized square functions on Banach spaces and apply our results to Laplace-type operators on manifolds and graphs, Schrödinger operators and Hermite expansion. We also give variants of these results for bisectorial operators and for generators of groups with a bounded…
We construct two bounded functional calculi for sectorial operators on Banach spaces, which enhance the functional calculus for analytic Besov functions, by extending the class of functions, generalizing and sharpening estimates, and adapting the calculus to the angle of sectoriality. The calculi are based on appropriate reproducing formulas, they are compatible with standard functional calculi and they admit appropriate convergence lemmas and spectral mapping theorems. To achieve this, we develop the theory of associated function spaces in ways which are interesting and significant. As conseq…
In this paper, we present a new class of operators, which we name to be $n$-Ritt operators. This produces a discrete analogue of $n$-sectorial operators and generalizes the notion of Ritt operators. We develop a $H^\infty$-functional calculus for $n$-Ritt operators and prove an useful transference result. We also generalize the notions of quadratic functional calculus and $n$-$R$-Ritt operator and discuss some examples.
We give a simple proof of the fact that the classical Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator $L$ is R-sectorial of angle $arcsin|1-2/p|$ on $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{n},\exp(-|x|^2/2)dx)$ (for $1<p<\infty$). Applying the abstract holomorphic functional calculus theory of Kalton and Weis, this immediately gives a new proof of the fact that $L$ has a bounded $H^{\infty}$ functional calculus with this optimal angle.
We give a sufficient condition for the sum of two closed operators to be closed. In particular, we study the sum of two sectorial operators with the sum of their sectoriality angles greater than $π$. We show that if one of the operators admits bounded $H^{\infty}$-calculus and the resolvent of the other operator satisfies a boundedness condition stronger than the standard sectoriality, but weaker than the bounded imaginary powers property in the case of UMD spaces, then the sum is closed. We apply the result to the abstract parabolic problem and give a sufficient condition for $L^{p}$-maximal …
In this paper, recent abstract multiplier theorems for $0$-sectorial and $0$-strip type operators by Kriegler and Weis (2018) are refined and generalized to arbitrary sectorial and strip-type operators. To this end, holomorphic Hörmander-type functions on sectors and strips are introduced with a scale of smoothness being finer than the classical polynomial one. Moreover, we establish alternative descriptions of these spaces involving Schwartz and "holomorphic Schwartz" functions. Finally, the abstract results are combined with a recent result by Carbonaro and Dragičević (2017) to obtain an imp…
We study bounded holomorphic functional calculus for nonsymmetric infinite dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operators ${\mathscr L}$. We prove that if $-{\mathscr L}$ generates an analytic semigroup on $L^{2}(γ_{\infty})$, then ${\mathscr L}$ has bounded holomorphic functional calculus on $L^{r}(γ_{\infty})$, $1<r<\infty$, in any sector of angle $θ>θ^{*}_{r}$, where $γ_{\infty}$ is the associated invariant measure and $θ^{*}_{r}$ the sectoriality angle of ${\mathscr L}$ on $L^{r}(γ_{\infty})$. The angle $θ^{*}_{r}$ is optimal. In particular our result applies to any nondegenerate finite dimensio…
On a compact manifold with boundary, consider the realization B of an elliptic, possibly pseudodifferential, boundary value problem having a spectral cut (a ray free of eigenvalues), say R_-. In the first part of the paper we define and discuss in detail the operator log B; its residue (generalizing the Wodzicki residue) is essentially proportional to the zeta function value at zero, zeta(B,0), and it enters in an important way in studies of composed zeta functions zeta(A,B,s)=Tr(AB^{-s}) (pursued elsewhere). There is a similar definition of the operator log_theta B, when the spectral cut is a…
This is the first of a series of two papers which studies the fractional porous medium equation on a Riemannian manifold with isolated conical singularities. In this article, we show $R$-sectoriality for the fractional powers of possibly non-invertible $R$-sectorial operators. Applications concern existence, uniqueness and maximal $L^{q}$-regularity results for solutions of the fractional porous medium equation on manifolds with conical singularities. Space asymptotic behavior of the solutions close to the singularities is provided and its relation to the local geometry is established. Our met…
We show that fractional powers of general sectorial operators on Banach spaces can be obtained by the harmonic extension approach. Moreover, for the corresponding second order ordinary differential equation with incomplete data describing the harmonic extension we prove existence and uniqueness of a bounded solution (i.e. of the harmonic extension).
We obtain integral representations for the resolvent of $ψ(A)$, where $ψ$ is a holomorphic function mapping the right half-plane and the right half-axis into themselves, and $A$ is a sectorial operator on a Banach space. As a corollary, for a wide class of functions $ψ$, we show that the operator $-ψ(A)$ generates a sectorially bounded holomorphic $C_0$-semigroup on a Banach space whenever $-A$ does, and the sectorial angle of $A$ is preserved. When $ψ$ is a Bernstein function, this was recently proved by Gomilko and Tomilov, but the proof here is more direct. Moreover, we prove that such a pe…
Convergence of operators acting on a given Hilbert space is an old and well studied topic in operator theory. The idea of introducing a related notion for operators acting on arying spaces is natural. However, it seems that the first results in this direction have been obtained only recently, to the best of our knowledge. Here we consider sectorial operators on scales of Hilbert spaces. We define a notion of convergence that generalises convergence of the resolvents in operator norm to the case when the operators act on different spaces and show that this kind of convergence is compatible with…
Using notions from the geometry of Banach spaces we introduce square functions $γ(Ω,X)$ for functions with values in an arbitrary Banach space $X$. We show that they have very convenient function space properties comparable to the Bochner norm of $L_2(Ω,H)$ for a Hilbert space $H$. In particular all bounded operators $T$ on $H$ can be extended to $γ(Ω,X)$ for all Banach spaces $X$. Our main applications are characterizations of the $H^{\infty}$--calculus that extend known results for $L_p$--spaces from \cite{CowlingDoustMcIntoshYagi}. With these square function estimates we show, e. g., that a…
We consider fractional differentiation operators in various senses and show that the strictly accretive property is the common property of fractional differentiation operators. Also we prove that the sectorial property holds for differential operators second order with a fractional derivative in the final term, we explore a location of the spectrum and resolvent sets and show that the spectrum is discrete. We prove that there exists a two-sided estimate for eigenvalues of the real component of operators second order with the fractional derivative in the final term.
This paper presents a self-contained new theory of weak fractional differential calculus and fractional Sobolev spaces in one-dimension. The crux of this new theory is the introduction of a weak fractional derivative notion which is a natural generalization of integer order weak derivatives; it also helps to unify multiple existing fractional derivative definitions and characterize what functions are fractionally differentiable. Various calculus rules including a fundamental theorem of calculus, product and chain rules, and integration by parts formulas are established for weak fractional deri…
Many different types of fractional calculus have been defined, which may be categorised into broad classes according to their properties and behaviours. Two types that have been much studied in the literature are the Hadamard-type fractional calculus and tempered fractional calculus. This paper establishes a connection between these two definitions, writing one in terms of the other by making use of the theory of fractional calculus with respect to functions. By extending this connection in a natural way, a generalisation is developed which unifies several existing fractional operators: Rieman…

Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and let $L$ be a sectorial operator with bounded holomorphic functional calculus on $L^2(X)$. We assume that the semigroup $\{e^{-tL}\}_{t>0}$ satisfies Davies-Gaffney estimates. In this paper, we introduce a new type of paraproduct operators that is constructed via certain approximations of the identity associated to $L$. We show various boundedness properties on $L^p(X)$ and the recently developed Hardy and BMO spaces $H^p_L(X)$ and $BMO_L(X)$. In generalization of standard paraproducts constructed via convolution operators, we show $L^2(X)$ off-diagona…
General fractional calculus offers an elegant and self-consistent path toward the generalization of fractional calculus to an enhanced class of kernels. Prabhakar's theory can be thought of, to some extent, as an explicit realization of this scheme achieved by merging the Prabhakar (or, three-parameter Mittag-Leffler) function with the general wisdom of the standard (Riemann-Liouville and Caputo) formulation of fractional calculus. Here I discuss some implications that emerge when attempting to frame Prabhakar's theory within the program of general fractional calculus.
An important class of fractional differential and integral operators is given by the theory of fractional calculus with respect to functions, sometimes called $Ψ$-fractional calculus. The operational calculus approach has proved useful for understanding and extending this topic of study. Motivated by fractional differential equations, we present an operational calculus approach for Laplace transforms with respect to functions and their relationship with fractional operators with respect to functions. This approach makes the generalised Laplace transforms much easier to analyse and to apply in …
Nonlocal and fractional-order models capture effects that classical partial differential equations cannot describe; for this reason, they are suitable for a broad class of engineering and scientific applications that feature multiscale or anomalous behavior. This has driven a desire for a vector calculus that includes nonlocal and fractional gradient, divergence and Laplacian type operators, as well as tools such as Green's identities, to model subsurface transport, turbulence, and conservation laws. In the literature, several independent definitions and theories of nonlocal and fractional vec…
In this paper, the generalized fractional integral operators of two generalized Mittag-Leffler type functions are investigated. The special cases of interest involve the generalized Fox--Wright function and the generalized M-series and K-function. In the next Section 2 we first recall some generalized fractional integral operators among the most widely used in fractional calculus. Section 3 is devoted to the definitions of M-series and K-function and their relations to special functions. In Sections 4 and 5, effective fractional calculus of the generalized M-series and the K-function is carrie…
