We give a weighted sum formula for the double polylogarithm in two variables, from which we can recover the classical weighted sum formulas for double zeta values, double $T$-values, and some double $L$-values. Also presented is a connection-type formula for a two-variable multiple polylogarithm, which specializes to previously known single-variable formulas. This identity can also be regarded as a generalization of the renowned five-term relation for the dilogarithm.
We define subvarieties of $\mathcal{M}_{0,n}$ equipped with algebraic functions that are solutions to the generic double shuffle equations satisfied by multiple polylogarithms on $\mathcal{M}_{0,n}$.
We prove sum formulas for double polylogarithms of Hurwitz type, that is, involving a shifting parameter $b$ in the denominator. These formulas especially imply well-known sum formulas for double zeta values, and sum formulas for double $L$-values. Further, differentiating in $b$, we obtain a kind of weighted sum formula for double polylogarithms and double $L$-values. We also give sum formulas for partial double zeta values with some congruence conditions. Our proofs of those sum formulas are based on certain functional relations for double polylogarithms of Hurwitz type.
We show an explicit formula relating étale polylogarithms introduced by Wojtkowiak and finite polylogarithms introduced by Elbaz-Vincent and Gangl. This formula is an étale analog of Besser's formula relating Coleman's $p$-adic polylogarithms and the finite polylogarithms.
Using a clear and straightforward approach, we discover and prove new binary digit extraction BBP-type formulas for polylogarithm constants. Some known results are also rediscovered in a more direct and elegant manner. Numerous experimentally discovered and previously unproved binary BBP-type formulas are also proved.
Using a clear and straightforward approach, we prove new ternary (base 3) digit extraction BBP-type formulas for polylogarithm constants. Some known results are also rediscovered in a more direct and elegant manner. A previously unproved degree~4 ternary formula is also proved. Finally, a couple of ternary zero relations are established, which prove two known but hitherto unproved formulas.
We study an $\ell$-adic Galois analogue of the distribution formulas for polylogarithms with special emphasis on path dependency and arithmetic behaviors. As a goal, we obtain a notion of certain universal Kummer-Heisenberg measures that enable interpolating the $\ell$-adic polylogarithmic distribution relations for all degrees.
We give a finite analogue of the well-known formula $\mathrm{Li}_{\underbrace{1, \ldots, 1}_n}(t) = \frac{1}{n!}\mathrm{Li}_1(t)^n$ of multiple polylogarithms for any positive integer n by using the shuffle relation of finite multiple polylogarithms of Ono-Yamamoto type. Unlike the usual case, the terms regarded as error terms appear in this formula. As a corollary, we obtain $"t \leftrightarrow 1 - t"$ type new functional equations of finite multiple polylogarithms of Ono-Yamamoto type and Sakugawa-Seki type.
Feynman integrals are central to all calculations in perturbative Quantum Field Theory. They often give rise to iterated integrals of dlog-forms with algebraic arguments, which in many cases can be evaluated in terms of multiple polylogarithms. This has led to certain folklore beliefs in the community stating that all such integrals evaluate to polylogarithms. Here we discuss a concrete example of a double iterated integral of two dlog-forms that evaluates to a period of a cusp form. The motivic versions of these integrals are shown to be algebraically independent from all multiple polylogarit…
In this paper, we define finite Carlitz multiple polylogarithms and show that every finite multiple zeta value over the rational function field $\mathbb{F}_{q}(θ)$ is an $\mathbb{F}_{q}(θ)$-linear combination of finite Carlitz multiple polylogarithms at integral points. It is completely compatible with the formula for Thakur MZV's established in [C14].
The Mahler measures of certain polynomials of up to five variables are given in terms of multiple polylogarithms. Each formula is homogeneous and its weight coincides with the number of variables of the corresponding polynomial.
We give an explicit formula for the shuffle relation in a general double shuffle framework that specializes to double shuffle relations of multiple zeta values and multiple polylogarithms. As an application, we generalize the well-known decomposition formula of Euler that expresses the product of two Riemann zeta values as a sum of double zeta values to a formula that expresses the product of two multiple polylogarithm values as a sum of other multiple polylogarithm values.
The special values of multiple polylogarithms, which including multiple zeta values, appear some fields of mathematics and physics. Many kinds of their linear relations are investigated as well as their algebraic relations. From the viewpoint of a connection matrix of Fuchsian equations, we derive two kinds of duality of these values.
We give new explicit formulas for Grassmannian and Aomoto polylogarithms in terms of iterated integrals, for arbitrary weight. We also explicitly reduce the Grassmannian polylogarithm in weight 4 and in weight 5 each to depth 2. Furthermore, using this reduction in weight 4 we obtain an explicit, albeit complicated, form of the so-called 4-ratio, which gives an expression for the Borel class in continuous cohomology of $\mathrm{GL}_4$ in terms of $\mathrm{Li}_4$.
In this paper we consider iterated integrals of multiple polylogarithm functions and prove some explicit relations of multiple polylogarithm functions. Then we apply the relations obtained to find numerous formulas of alternating multiple zeta values in terms of unit-exponent alternating multiple zeta values. In particular, we prove several conjectures given by Borwein-Bradley-Broadhurst \cite{BBBL1997}, and give some general results. Furthermore, we discuss Kaneko-Yamamoto multiple zeta values, and establish some relations between it and multiple zeta values. Finally, we establish a linear re…
A generalization of the classical Lipschitz summation formula is proposed. It involves new polylogarithmic rational functions constructed via the Fourier expansion of certain sequences of Bernoulli--type polynomials. Related families of one--dimensional hyperfunctions are also constructed.
In this paper, we obtain some formulas for double nonlinear Euler sums involving harmonic numbers and alternating harmonic numbers. By using these formulas, we give new closed form sums of several quadratic Euler series through Riemann zeta values, polylogarithm functions and linear sums. Furthermore, some relationships between Euler sums and integrals of polylogarithm functions are established.
In this article, we set up a method of reconstructing to polylogarithms $\mathrm{Li}_k(z)$ from zeta values $ζ(k)$ via the Riemann-Hilbert problem. This is referred to as "a recursive Riemann-Hilbert problem of additive type." Moreover, we suggest a framework of interpreting the connection problem of the Knizhnik-Zamolodochikov equation of one variable as a Riemann-Hilbert problem.
We study values of generalized polylogarithms at various points and relationships among them. Polylogarithms of small weight at the points 1/2 and -1 are completely investigated. We formulate a conjecture about the structure of the linear space generated by values of generalized polylogarithms.
We generalize the well-known parity theorem for multiple zeta values (MZV) to functional equations of multiple polylogarithms (MPL). This reproves the parity theorem for MZV with an additional integrality statement, and also provides parity theorems for special values of MPL at roots of unity (also known as coloured MZV). We give explicit formulas in depths 2 and 3 and provide a computer program to compute the functional equations.
We show that the shuffle algebras for polylogarithms and regularized MZVs in the sense of Ihara, Kaneko and Zagier are both free commutative nonunitary Rota-Baxter algebras with one generator. We apply these results to show that the full sets of shuffle relations of polylogarithms and regularized MZVs are derived by a single series. We also take this approach to study the extended double shuffle relations of MZVs by comparing these shuffle relations with the quasi-shuffle relations of the regularized MZVs in our previous approach of MZVs by renormalization.
We investigate the elliptic analogs of multi-indexed polylogarithms that appear in the theory of the fundamental group of the projective line minus three points as sections of a universal nilpotent bundle with regular singular connection. We use an analytic uniformisation to derive the fundamental nilpotent De Rham torsor of a single elliptic curve in terms of a double Jacobi form introduced by Kronecker. We then extend this result to any smooth family, relatively to the base, i.e., to the moduli stack $M_{1,2}$ over $M_{1,1}$. Everything relies on explicit formulas that turn out to be algebra…
We give a proof of double shuffle relations for $p$-adic multiple zeta values by developing higher dimensional version of tangential base points and discussing a relationship with two (and one) variable $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms.
We establish the triple integral evaluation \[ \int_{1}^{\infty} \int_{0}^{1} \int_{0}^{1} \frac{dz \, dy \, dx}{x(x+y)(x+y+z)} = \frac{5}{24} ζ(3), \] as well as the equivalent polylogarithmic double sum \[ \sum_{k=1}^{\infty} \sum_{j=k}^{\infty} \frac{(-1)^{k-1}}{k^{2}} \, \frac{1}{j \, 2^{j}} = \frac{13}{24} ζ(3). \] This double sum is related to, but less approachable than, similar sums studied by Ramanujan. It is also reminiscent of Euler's formula $ζ(2,1) = ζ(3)$, which is the simplest instance of duality of multiple polylogarithms. We review this duality and apply it to derive a compani…
We define a variant of real-analytic polylogarithms that are single-valued and that satisfy ''clean'' functional relations that do not involve any products of lower weight functions. We discuss the basic properties of these functions and, for depths one and two, we present some explicit formulas and results. We also give explicit formulas for the single-valued and clean single-valued version attached to the Nielsen polylogarithms $S_{n,2}(x)$, and we show how the clean single-valued functions give new evaluations of multiple polylogarithms at certain algebraic points.
Let $N$ be a positive integer. In this paper we shall study the special values of multiple polylogarithms at $N$th roots of unity, called multiple polylogarithm values (MPVs) of level $N$. These objects are generalizations of multiple zeta values and alternating Euler sums, which was studied by Euler, and more recently, many mathematicians and theoretical physicists.. Our primary goal in this paper is to investigate the relations among the MPVs of the same weight and level by using the regularized double shuffle relations, regularized distribution relations, lifted versions of such relations f…
The sum formula for multiple zeta values are derived, via the Mellin transform, from the Euler connection formula and the Landen connection formula for polylogarithms. These connection formulas for multiple polylogarithms will be considered in the framework of the theory of the formal Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation.
We define motivic multiple polylogarithms and prove the double shuffle relations for them. We use this to study the motivic fundamental group of the multiplicative group - {N-th roots of unity} and relate it to geometry of modular varieties. In particular we get new information about the actionof the Galois group on the pro-l completion of the above fundamental group. This paper is the second part of "Multiple polylogarithms and mixed Tate motives" math.AG/0103059
In this short note, we provide an explicit formula to compute every colored double Tornheim's series by using double polylogarithm values at roots of unity. When the colors are given by $\pm 1$ our formula is different from that of Tsumura [On alternating analogues of Tornheim's double series II, Ramanujan J. 18 (2009), 81-90] even though numerical data confirm both are correct in almost all the cases. This agreement can also be checked rigorously by using regularized double shuffle relations of the alternating double zeta values in weights less than eight.
In this paper we are interested in Euler-type sums with products of harmonic numbers, Stirling numbers and Bell numbers. We discuss the analytic representations of Euler sums through values of polylogarithm function and Riemann zeta function. Moreover, we provide explicit evaluations for almost all Euler sums with weight 5, which can be expressed in terms of zeta values and polylogarithms. Furthermore, we give explicit formula for several classes of Euler-related sums in terms of zeta values and harmonic numbers, and several examples are given. The given representations are new.
We prove a conjecture of Goncharov, which says that any multiple polylogarithm can be expressed via polylogarithms of depth at most half of the weight. We give an explicit formula for this presentation, involving a summation over trees that correspond to decompositions of a polygon into quadrangles. Our second result is a formula for volume of hyperbolic orthoschemes, generalizing the formula of Lobachevsky in dimension $3$ to an arbitrary dimension. We show a surprising relation between two results, which comes from the fact that hyperbolic orthoschemes are parametrized by configurations of p…
For each positive characteristic multiple zeta value (defined by Thakur), the first and third authors constructed a $t$-module together with an algebraic point such that a specified coordinate of the logarithmic vector of the algebraic point is a rational multiple of that multiple zeta value. The objective of this paper is to use the Taylor coefficients of Anderson-Thakur series and $t$-motivic Carlitz multiple star polylogarithms to give explicit formulae for all of the coordinates of this logarithmic vector.
Colored multiple zeta values are special values of multiple polylogarithms evaluated at Nth roots of unity. In this paper, we define both the finite and the symmetrized versions of these values and show that they both satisfy the double shuffle relations. Further, we provide strong evidence for an isomorphism connecting the two spaces generated by these two kinds of values. This is a generalization of a recent work of Kaneko and Zagier on finite and symmetrized multiple zeta values and of the second author on finite and symmetrized Euler sums.
In this paper we prove some new identities for multiple zeta values and multiple zeta star values of arbitrary depth by using the methods of integral computations of logarithm function and iterated integral representations of series. By applying these formulas, we can prove that multiple zeta star values whose indices are the sequences $(\bar 1,\{1\}_m,\bar 1)$ and $(2,\{1\}_m,\bar 1)$ can be expressed polynomially in terms of zeta values, polylogarithms and $\ln2$. Finally, we also evaluate several restricted sum formulas involving multiple zeta values.
An arbitrary-depth reduction theorem for the `convolution' multiple L-values of Euler-Zagier type is proven by an analytic method. To this end, generalized polylogarithms associated to Dirichlet characters are defined. The proof uses the monodromies of these functions and the parities of generating functions of generalized Bernoulli numbers. Some general formulas for resulting reductions in the depth 2 case are provided.
This is a short exposition--mostly by way of the toy models ``double logarithm'' and ``triple logarithm''--which should serve as an introduction to a forthcoming article in which we establish a connection between multiple polylogarithms, polygons, trees and algebraic cycles.
In 1776, L. Euler proposed three methods, called prima methodus, secunda methodus and tertia methodus, to calculate formulae for double zeta values. However strictly speaking, his last two methods are mathematically incomplete and require more precise reformulation and more sophisticated arguments for their justification. In this paper, we reformulate his formulae, give their rigorous proofs and also clarify that the formulae can be derived from the extended double shuffle relations.
We give some restricted sum formulas for double zeta values whose arguments satisfy certain congruence conditions modulo 2 or 6, and also give an application to identities showed by Ramanujan for sums of products of Bernoulli numbers with a gap of 6.
We present a unified approach which gives completely elementary proofs of three weighted sum formulae for double zeta values. This approach also leads to new evaluations of sums relating to the harmonic numbers, the alternating double zeta values, and the Witten zeta function. We discuss a heuristic for finding or dismissing the existence of similar simple sums. We also produce some new sums from recursions involving the Riemann zeta and the Dirichlet beta functions.
