We consider particle-based stochastic reaction-drift-diffusion models where particles move via diffusion and drift induced by one- and two-body potential interactions. The dynamics of the particles are formulated as measure-valued stochastic processes (MVSPs), which describe the evolution of the singular, stochastic concentration fields of each chemical species. The mean field large population limit of such models is derived and proven, giving coarse-grained deterministic partial integro-differential equations (PIDEs) for the limiting deterministic concentration fields' dynamics. We generalize previous studies on the mean field limit of models involving only diffusive motion, with care to formulating the MVSP representation to ensure detailed balance of reversible reactions in the presence of potentials. Our work illustrates the more general set of PIDEs that arise in the mean field limit, demonstrating that the limiting macroscopic reactive interaction terms for reversible reactions obtain additional nonlinear concentration-dependent coefficients compared to the purely diffusive case. Numerical studies are presented which illustrate that two-body repulsive potential interactions can have a significant impact on the reaction dynamics, and also demonstrate the empirical numerical convergence of solutions to the PBSRDD model to the derived mean field PIDEs as the population size increases.
A parameter estimation problem for a class of semilinear stochastic evolution equations is considered. Conditions for consistency and asymptotic normality are given in terms of growth and continuity properties of the nonlinear part. Emphasis is put on the case of stochastic reaction-diffusion systems. Robustness results for statistical inference under model uncertainty are provided.
We study the heat kernel of the supercritical fractional diffusion equation with the drift in the critical Hölder space. We show that such a drift can have point irregularities strong enough to make the heat kernel vanish at a point for all $t>0$.
We perform a fast-reaction limit for a linear reaction-diffusion system consisting of two diffusion equations coupled by a linear reaction. We understand the linear reaction-diffusion system as a gradient flow of the free energy in the space of probability measure equipped with a geometric structure, which contains the Wasserstein metric for the diffusion part and cosh-type functions for the reaction part. The fast-reaction limit is done on the level of the gradient structure by proving EDP-convergence with tilting. The limit gradient system induces a diffusion system with Lagrange multipliers…
We establish the well-posedness of stochastic differential equations possessing degenerate diffusions and singular drifts. We prove that SDEs defined on the homogeneous Carnot group, whose hypoelliptic diffusion part is given by the horizontal Brownian motion, admit a unique strong solution for a large class of singular drifts. It considerably generalizes the classical well-posedness results of singular SDEs with non-degenerate diffusions. It also provides an intermediate result between the Cauchy-Lipschitz theorem in ordinary differential equations and the result proved by Krylov and Röckner …
We study stochastic differential equations(SDEs) with a small perturbation parameter. Under the dissipative condition on the drift coefficient and the local Lipschitz condition on the drift and diffusion coefficients we prove the existence and uniqueness result for the perturbed SDE, also the convergence result for the solution of the perturbed system to the solution of the unperturbed system when the perturbation parameter approaches zero.We consider the application of the above-mentioned results to the Cauchy problem and the transport equations.
A new proof of pathwise uniqueness for SDEs with Sobolev diffusion and integrable drift term is introduced by extending a method from E. Fedrizzi and F. Flandoli (Pathwise uniqueness and continuous dependence of SDEs with non-regular drift, Stochastics 83 (2011), pp. 241--257) to the case of nonconstant diffusion.
We prove strong existence and uniqueness of solutions of Itô's stochastic time dependent equations with irregular diffusion and drift terms of Morrey class type. In a sense we are treating a "supercritical" case.
We study evolution equations of drift-diffusion type when various parameters are random. Motivated by applications in pedestrian dynamics, we focus on the case when the total mass is, due to boundary or reaction terms, not conserved. After providing existence and stability for the deterministic problem, we consider uncertainty in the data. Instead of a sensitivity analysis we propose to measure functionals of the solution, so-called quantities of interest (QoI), by involving scalarizing statistics. For these summarizing statistics we provide probabilistic continuity results.
In this paper we study jump-diffusion stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with a discontinuous drift coefficient and a possibly degenerate diffusion coefficient. Such SDEs appear in applications such as optimal control problems in energy markets. We prove existence and uniqueness of strong solutions. In addition we study the strong convergence order of the Euler-Maruyama scheme and recover the optimal rate $1/2$.
We consider a generalization of classical results of Freidlin and Wentzell to the case of time dependent dissipative drifts. We show the convergence of diffusions with multiplicative noise in the zero limit of a diffusivity parameter to the related dynamical systems. The solution to the associated transport equation is obtained as an application.
Among all generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes which sample the same invariant measure and for which the same amount of randomness (a $N$-dimensional Brownian motion) is injected in the system, we prove that the asymptotic rate of convergence is maximized by a non-reversible hypoelliptic one.
For regime-switching diffusions processes with singular drifts, we introduce integrability conditions involving a nice reference probability measure and the $Q$-matrix of the jump part to study the existence of the invariant probability measures. Consequently, the generator of the regime-switching diffusions process has an extension in the $L^1$-space w.r.t the invariant probability measure to be a generator of $C_0$-semigroup. Moreover, we prove the uniqueness of the extension. Regularities and the uniqueness of the invariant probability density w.r.t the nice reference probability measure ar…
We study the maximum likelihood estimator of the drift parameters of a stochastic differential equation, with both drift and diffusion coefficients constant on the positive and negative axis, yet discontinuous at zero. This threshold diffusion is called drifted Oscillating Brownian motion. For this continuously observed diffusion, the maximum likelihood estimator coincide with a quasi-likelihood estimator with constant diffusion term. We show that this estimator is the limit, as observations become dense in time, of the (quasi)-maximum likelihood estimator based on discrete observations. In lon…
We are interested in the Euler-Maruyama discretization of a stochastic differential equation in dimension $d$ with constant diffusion coefficient and bounded measurable drift coefficient. In the scheme, a randomization of the time variable is used to get rid of any regularity assumption of the drift in this variable. We prove weak convergence with order $1/2$ in total variation distance. When the drift has a spatial divergence in the sense of distributions with $ρ$-th power integrable with respect to the Lebesgue measure in space uniformly in time for some $ρ\ge d$, the order of convergence at…
