In this paper we are concerned with distribution dependent backward stochastic differential equations (DDBSDEs) driven by Gaussian processes. We first show the existence and uniqueness of solutions to this type of equations. This is done by formulating a transfer principle to transfer the well-posedness problem to an auxiliary DDBSDE driven by Brownian motion. Then, we establish a comparison theorem under Lipschitz condition and boundedness of Lions derivative imposed on the generator. Furthermore, we get a new representation for DDBSDEs driven by Gaussian processes, this representation is even new for the case of the equations driven by Brownian motion. The new obtained representation enables us to prove a converse comparison theorem. Finally, we derive transportation inequalities and Logarithmic-Sobolev inequalities via the stability of the Wasserstein distance and the relative entropy of measures under the homeomorphism condition.
In this paper, we study linear backward stochastic differential equations driven by a class of centered Gaussian non-martingales, including fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in (0,1)\setminus \{\frac12\}$. We show that, for every choice of deterministic coefficient functions, there is a square integrable terminal condition such that the equation has no solution.
We are interested in path-dependent semilinear PDEs, where the derivatives are of G{â}teaux type in specific directions k and b, being the kernel functions of a Volterra Gaussian process X. Under some conditions on k, b and the coefficients of the PDE, we prove existence and uniqueness of a decoupled mild solution, a notion introduced in a previous paper by the authors. We also show that the solution of the PDE can be represented through BSDEs where the forward (underlying) process is X.
In this paper, we generalize to Gaussian Volterra processes the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of non linear backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) and we establish the relation between the non linear BSDE and the partial differential equation (PDE). A comparison theorem for the solution of the BSDE is proved and the continuity of its law is studied.
This paper considers a forward BSDE driven by a random measure, when the underlying forward process X is special semimartingale, or even more generally, a special weak Dirichlet process. Given a solution (Y, Z, U), generally Y appears to be of the type u(t, X\_t) where u is a deterministic function. In this paper we identify Z and U in terms of u applying stochastic calculus with respect to weak Dirichlet processes.
The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we derive upper and lower non-Gaussian bounds for the densities of the marginal laws of the solutions to backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) driven by fractional Brownian motions. Our arguments consist of utilising a relationship between fractional BSDEs and quasilinear partial differential equations of mixed type, together with the profound Nourdin-Viens formula. In the linear case, upper and lower Gaussian bounds for the densities and the tail probabilities of solutions are obtained with simple arguments by their explicit expressions …
In this paper we establish the existence and the uniqueness of the solution of a special class of BSDEs for Lévy processes in the case of a Lipschitz generator of sublinear growth. We then study a related problem of logarithmic utility maximization of the terminal wealth in the filtration generated by an arbitrary Lévy process.
In this paper we prove that every random variable of the form $F(M_T)$ with $F:\real^d \to\real$ a Borelian map and $M$ a $d$-dimensional continuous Markov martingale with respect to a Markov filtration $\mathcal{F}$ admits an exact integral representation with respect to $M$, that is, without any orthogonal component. This representation holds true regardless any regularity assumption on $F$. We extend this result to Markovian quadratic growth BSDEs driven by $M$ and show they can be solved without an orthogonal component. To this end, we extend first existence results for such BSDEs under a …
We extend the branching process based numerical algorithm of Bouchard et al. [3], that is dedicated to semilinear PDEs (or BSDEs) with Lipschitz nonlinearity, to the case where the nonlinearity involves the gradient of the solution. As in [3], this requires a localization procedure that uses a priori estimates on the true solution, so as to ensure the well-posedness of the involved Picard iteration scheme, and the global convergence of the algorithm. When, the nonlinearity depends on the gradient, the later needs to be controlled as well. This is done by using a face-lifting procedure. Converg…
We introduce and solve a new type of quadratic backward stochastic differential equation systems defined in an infinite time horizon, called \emph{ergodic BSDE systems}. Such systems arise naturally as candidate solutions to characterize forward performance processes and their associated optimal trading strategies in a regime switching market. In addition, we develop a connection between the solution of the ergodic BSDE system and the long-term growth rate of classical utility maximization problems, and use the ergodic BSDE system to study the large time behavior of PDE systems with quadratic …
The paper analyzes risk assessment for cash flows in continuous time using the notion of convex risk measures for processes. By combining a decomposition result for optional measures, and a dual representation of a convex risk measure for bounded \cd processes, we show that this framework provides a systematic approach to the both issues of model ambiguity, and uncertainty about the time value of money. We also establish a link between risk measures for processes and BSDEs.
Explicit solutions for a class of linear backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) driven by Gaussian Volterra processes are given. These processes include the multifractional brownian motion and the multifractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. By an Itô formula, proven in the context of Malliavin calculus, the BSDE is associated to a linear second order partial differential equation with terminal condition whose solution is given by a Feynman-Kac type formula. An application to self-financing trading strategies is discussed.
We discuss a class of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations(BSDEs) with no driving martingale. When the randomness of the driver depends on a general Markov process $X$, those BSDEs are denominated Markovian BSDEs and can be associated to a deterministic problem, called Pseudo-PDE which constitute the natural generalization of a parabolicsemilinear PDE which naturally appears when the underlying filtration is Brownian. We consider two aspects of well-posedness forthe Pseudo-PDEs: "classical" and "martingale" solutions.
In this paper we study multi-dimensional reflected backward stochastic differential equations driven by Wiener-Poisson type processes. We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions, with reflection in the inward spatial normal direction, in the setting of certain time-dependent domains.

We consider reflected backward stochastic differential equations, with two barriers, defined on probability spaces equipped with filtration satisfying only the usual assumptions of right continuity and completeness. As for barriers we assume that there are càdlàg processes of class D that are completely separated. We prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions for integrable final condition and integrable monotone generator. An application to zero-sum Dynkin game is given.
We present a unified approach to $L^p$-solutions ($p > 1$) of multidimensional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) driven by Lévy processes and more general filtrations. New existence, uniqueness and comparison results are obtained. The generator functions obey a time-dependent extended monotonicity (Osgood) condition in the $y$-variable and have general growth in $y$. Within this setting, the results generalize those of Royer (2006), Yin and Mao (2008), Yao (2017), Kruse and Popier (2016/2017) and Geiss and Steinicke (2018).
We study a class of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) driven by a random measure or, equivalently, by a marked point process. Under appropriate assumptions we prove well-posedness and continuous dependence of the solution on the data. We next address optimal control problems for point processes of general non-markovian type and show that BSDEs can be used to prove existence of an optimal control and to represent the value function. Finally we introduce a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, also stochastic and of backward type, for this class of control problems: when the state s…
We focus on a class of path-dependent problems which include path-dependent (possibly Integro) PDEs, and their representation via BSDEs driven by a cadlag martingale. For those equations we introduce the notion of decoupled mild solution for which, under general assumptions, we study existence and uniqueness and its representation via the afore mentioned BSDEs. This concept generalizes a similar notion introduced by the authors in previous papers in the framework of classical PDEs and IPDEs. For every initial condition (s, $η$), where s is an initial time and $η$ an initial path, the solution …
We consider a classical finite horizon optimal control problem for continuous-time pure jump Markov processes described by means of a rate transition measure depending on a control parameter and controlled by a feedback law. For this class of problems the value function can often be described as the unique solution to the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. We prove a probabilistic representation for the value function, known as nonlinear Feynman-Kac formula. It relates the value function with a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) driven by a random measure and with a …
We study a class of reflected backward stochastic differential equations with nonpositive jumps and upper barrier. Existence and uniqueness of a minimal solution is proved by a double penalization approach under regularity assumptions on the obstacle. In a suitable regime switching diffusion framework, we show the connection between our class of BSDEs and fully nonlinear variational inequalities. Our BSDE representation provides in particular a Feynman-Kac type formula for PDEs associated to general zero-sum stochastic differential controller-and-stopper games, where control affect both drift …
The aim of this paper is to introduce a new formalism for the deterministic analysis associated with backward stochastic differential equations driven by general c{à}dl{à}g martingales. When the martingale is a standard Brownian motion, the natural deterministic analysis is provided by the solution of a semilinear PDE of parabolic type. A significant application concerns the hedging problem under basis risk of a contingent claim $g(X\_T,S\_T)$, where $S$ (resp. $X$) is an underlying price of a traded (resp. non-traded but observable) asset, via the celebrated F{ö}llmer-Schweizer decomposition.…
Two discretizations of a class of locally Lipschitz Markovian backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) are studied. The first is the classical Euler scheme which approximates a projection of the processes Z, and the second a novel scheme based on Malliavin weights which approximates the mariginals of the process Z directly. Extending the representation theorem of Ma and Zhang leads to advanced a priori estimates and stability results for this class of BSDEs. These estimates are then used to obtain competitive convergence rates for both schemes with respect to the number of points in …
We consider a backward stochastic differential equation in a Markovian framework for the pair of processes $(Y,Z)$, with generator with quadratic growth with respect to $Z$. Under non-degeneracy assumptions, we prove an analogue of the well-known Bismut-Elworty formula when the generator has quadratic growth with respect to $Z$. Applications to the solution of a semilinear Kolmogorov equation for the unknown $v$ with nonlinear term with quadratic growth with respect to $\nabla v$ and final condition only bounded and continuous are given, as well as applications to stochastic optimal control pr…
We study the well-posedness of general reflected BSDEs driven by a continuous martingale, when the coefficient f of the driver has at most quadratic growth in the control variable Z, with a bounded terminal condition and a lower obstacle which is bounded above. We obtain the basic results in this setting : comparison and uniqueness, existence, stability. For the comparison theorem and the special comparison theorem for reflected BSDEs (which allows one to compare the increasing processes of two solutions), we give intrinsic proofs which do not rely on the comparison theorem for standard BSDEs.…
Let $(\mathbb{P}^{s,x})_{(s,x)\in[0,T]\times E}$ be a family of probability measures, where $E$ is a Polish space, defined on the canonical probability space ${\mathbb D}([0,T],E)$ of $E$-valued cadlag functions. We suppose that a martingale problem with respect to a time-inhomogeneous generator $a$ is well-posed. We consider also an associated semilinear {\it Pseudo-PDE} with generator $a$ for which we introduce a notion of so called {\it decoupled mild} solution and study the equivalence with the notion of martingale solution introduced in a companion paper. We also investigate well-posedness…
Over the past few years quadratic Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDEs) have been a popular field of research. However there are only very few examples where explicit solutions for these equations are known. In this paper we consider a class of quadratic BSDEs involving affine processes and show that their solution can be reduced to solving a system of generalized Riccati ordinary differential equations. In other words we introduce a rich and flexible class of quadratic BSDEs which are analytically tractable, i.e. explicit up to the solution of an ODE. Our results also provide ana…
In this paper we study backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) driven by the compensated random measure associated to a given pure jump Markov process X on a general state space K. We apply these results to prove well-posedness of a class of nonlinear parabolic differential equations on K, that generalize the Kolmogorov equation of X. Finally we formulate and solve optimal control problems for Markov jump processes, relating the value function and the optimal control law to an appropriate BSDE that also allows to construct probabilistically the unique solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi…
In this paper, we introduce a specific kind of doubly reflected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (in short DRBSDEs), defined on probability spaces equipped with general filtration that is essentially non quasi-left continuous, where the barriers are assumed to be predictable processes. We call these equations predictable DRBSDEs. Under a general type of Mokobodzki's condition, we show the existence of the solution (in consideration of the driver's nature) through a Picard iteration method and a Banach fixed point theorem. By using an appropriate generalization of Itô's formula due to…
We formulate an optimal switching problem when the underlying filtration is generated by a marked point process and a Brownian motion. Each mode is characterized by a different compensator for the point process, and thus by a different probability $\mathbb{P}^i$, which form a dominated family. To each strategy $\mathbf{a}$ of switching times and actions then corresponds a compensator and a probability $\mathbb{P}^\mathbf{a}$, and the reward is calculated under this probability. To solve this problem, we define and study a system of reflected BSDE where the obstacle for each equation depends on…

We investigate solutions of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) with time delayed generators driven by Brownian motions and Poisson random measures, that constitute the two components of a Levy process. In this new type of equations, the generator can depend on the past values of a solution, by feeding them back into the dynamics with a time lag. For such time delayed BSDE, we prove existence and uniqueness of solutions provided we restrict on a sufficiently small time horizon or the generator possesses a sufficiently small Lipschitz constant. We study differentiability in the va…

We obtain existence and uniqueness in L^p, p>1 of the solutions of a backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs for short) driven by a marked point process, on a bounded interval. We show that the solution of the BSDE can be approximated by a finite system of deterministic differential equations. As application we address an optimal control problems for point processes of general non-Markovian type and show that BSDEs can be used to prove existence of an optimal control and to represent the value function.
We study the problem of existence and uniqueness of solutions of backward stochastic differential equations with two reflecting irregular barriers, $L^p$ data and generators satisfying weak integrability conditions. We deal with equations on general filtered probability spaces. In case the generator does not depend on the $z$ variable, we first consider the case $p=1$ and we only assume that the underlying filtration satisfies the usual conditions of right-continuity and completeness. Additional integrability properties of solutions are established if $p\in(1,2]$ and the filtration is quasi-le…
In this paper we deal with the problem of the existence and the uniqueness of a solution for one dimensional reflected backward stochastic differential equations with two strictly separated barriers when the generator is allowing a logarithmic growth $(|y||\ln|y||+|z|\sqrt{|\ln|z||})$ in the state variables $y$ and $z$. The terminal value $ξ$ and the obstacle processes $(L_t)_{0\leq t\leq T}$ and $(U_t)_{0\leq t\leq T}$ are $L^p$-integrable for a suitable $p > 2$. The main idea is to use the concept of local solution to construct the global one. As applications, we broaden the class of functio…
We introduce a generalized Dynkin game problem with non linear conditional expectation ${\cal E}$ induced by a Backward Stochastic Differential Equation (BSDE) with jumps. Let $ξ, ζ$ be two RCLL adapted processes with $ξ\leq ζ$. The criterium is given by \begin{equation*} {\cal J}_{τ, σ}= {\cal E}_{0, τ\wedge σ} \left(ξ_τ\textbf{1}_{\{ τ\leq σ\}}+ζ_σ\textbf{1}_{\{σ<τ\}}\right) \end{equation*} where $τ$ and $ σ$ are stopping times valued in $[0,T]$. Under Mokobodski's condition, we establish the existence of a value function for this game, i.e. $\inf_σ\sup_τ {\cal J}_{τ, σ} = \sup_τ \inf_σ {\ca…
In the present paper we address stochastic optimal control problems for a step process $(X,\mathbb{F})$ under a progressive enlargement of the filtration. The global information is obtained adding to the reference filtration $\mathbb{F}$ the point process $H=1_{[τ,+\infty)}$. Here $τ$ is a random time that can be regarded as the occurrence time of an external shock event. We study two classes of control problems, over $[0,T]$ and over the random horizon $[0,T \wedge τ]$. We solve these control problems following a dynamical approach based on a class of BSDEs driven by the jump measure $μ^ Z$ o…
This work deals with backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) with random marked jumps, and their applications to default risk. We show that these BSDEs are linked with Brownian BSDEs through the decomposition of processes with respect to the progressive enlargement of filtrations. We show that the equations have solutions if the associated Brownian BSDEs have solutions. We also provide a uniqueness theorem for BSDEs with jumps by giving a comparison theorem based on the comparison for Brownian BSDEs. We give in particular some results for quadratic BDSEs. As applications, we study the…
In this paper, a probabilistic interpretation for the viscosity solution of a parabolic partial differential equation is obtained by virtue of the solution of a class of quadratic backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short). Furthermore, we prove the convergence and the large deviation principle for the solution of this class of quadratic BSDEs, which is associated with a family of Markov processes with the diffusion coefficients that tend to be zero.
We consider an Ito stochastic differential equation with delay, driven by brownian motion, whose solution, by an appropriate reformulation, defines a Markov process $X$ with values in a space of continuous functions $\mathbf C$, with generator $\mathcal L$. We then consider a backward stochastic differential equation depending on $X$, with unknown processes $(Y,Z)$, and we study properties of the resulting system, in particular we identify the process $Z$ as a deterministic functional of $X$. We next prove that the forward-backward system provides a suitable solution to a class of parabolic pa…
For an $\cF_T$-measurable payoff of a European type contingent claim, the recursive utility process/dynamic risk measure can be described by the adapted solution to a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). However, for an $\cF_T$-measurable stochastic process (called a position process, not necessarily $\dbF$-adapted), mimicking BSDE's approach will lead to a time-inconsistent recursive utility/dynamic risk measure. It is found that a more proper approach is to use the adapted solution to a backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE). The corresponding notions are called …
In this paper we study Backward Stochastic Differential Equations with two reflecting right continuous with left limits obstacles (or barriers) when the noise is given by Brownian motion and a Poisson random measure mutually independent. The jumps of the obstacle processes could be either predictable or inaccessible. We show existence and uniqueness of the solution when the barriers are completely separated and the generator uniformly Lipschitz. We do not assume the existence of a difference of supermartingales between the obstacles. As an application, we show that the related mixed zero-sum d…
In this paper, we prove the global risk optimality of the hedging strategy of contingent claim, which is explicitly (or called semi-explicitly) constructed for an incomplete financial market with external risk factors of non-Gaussian Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (NGOU) processes. Analytical and numerical examples are both presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our optimal strategy. Our study establishes the connection between our financial system and existing general semimartingale based discussions by justifying required conditions. More precisely, there are three steps involved. First, we firmly…
This note develops shortly the theory of time-inhomogeneous additive functionals and is a useful support for the analysis of time-dependent Markov processes and related topics. It is a significant tool for the analysis of BSDEs in law. In particular we extend to a non-homogeneous setup some results concerning the quadratic variation and the angular bracket of Martin-gale Additive Functionals (in short MAF) associated to a homogeneous Markov processes.
For a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE, for short), when the generator is not progressively measurable, it might not admit adapted solutions, shown by an example. However, for backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs, for short), the generators are allowed to be anticipating. This gives, among other things, an essential difference between BSDEs and BSVIEs. Under some proper conditions, the well-posedness of such kinds of BSVIEs is established. Further, the results are extended to path-dependent BSVIEs, in which the generators can depend on the future paths of unkn…
This paper is concerned with a backward-forward stochastic differential equation (BFSDE) system, in which a large number of negligible agents are coupled in their dynamics via state average. Here some BSDE is introduced as the dynamics of major player, while dynamics of minor players are described by SDEs. Some auxiliary mean-field SDEs (MFSDEs) and a $3\times2$ mixed forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE) system are considered and analyzed instead of involving the fixed-point analysis as in other mean-field games. We also derive the decentralized strategies which are shown …
In this paper we study zero-sum two-player stochastic differential games with the help of theory of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDEs). At the one hand we generalize the results of the pioneer work of Fleming and Souganidis by considering cost functionals defined by controlled BSDEs and by allowing the admissible control processes to depend on events occurring before the beginning of the game (which implies that the cost functionals become random variables), on the other hand the application of BSDE methods, in particular that of the notion of stochastic "backward semigroups" i…
The classical Feynman-Kac formula states the connection between linear parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs), like the heat equation, and expectation of stochastic processes driven by Brownian motion. It gives then a method for solving linear PDEs by Monte Carlo simulations of random processes. The extension to (fully)nonlinear PDEs led in the recent years to important developments in stochastic analysis and the emergence of the theory of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs), which can be viewed as nonlinear Feynman-Kac formulas. We review in this paper the main ideas a…
We introduce a variational theory for processes adapted to the multi-dimensional Brownian motion filtration that provides a differential structure allowing to describe infinitesimal evolution of Wiener functionals at very small scales. The main novel idea is to compute the "sensitivities" of processes, namely derivatives of martingale components and a weak notion of infinitesimal generators, via a finite-dimensional approximation procedure based on controlled inter-arrival times and approximating martingales. The theory comes with convergence results that allow to interpret a large class of Wi…
We compute the expected signature of a class of Gaussian processes which is a subclass of the Gaussian processes with regular kernels, in the sense of Alos, Mazet and Nualart.
In this paper exact confidence intervals for the Orey index of Gaussian processes are obtained using concentration inequalities for Gaussian quadratic forms and discrete observations of the underlying process. The obtained result is applied to Gaussian processes with the Orey index which not necessarily have stationary increments.
The problem of (pathwise) large deviations for conditionally continuous Gaussian processes is investigated. The theory of large deviations for Gaussian processes is extended to the wider class of random processes -- the conditionally Gaussian processes. The estimates of level crossing probability for such processes are given as an application.
We derive a precise link between series expansions of Gaussian random vectors in a Banach space and Parseval frames in their reproducing kernel Hilbert space. The results are applied to pathwise continuous Gaussian processes and a new optimal expansion for fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes is derived. In the end an extension of this result to Gaussian stationary processes with convex covariance function is established.
We develop the canonical Volterra representation for a self-similar Gaussian process by using the Lamperti transformation of the corresponding stationary Gaussian process, where this latter one admits a canonical integral representation under the assumption of pure non-determinism. We apply the representation obtained for the self-similar Gaussian process to derive an expression for Gaussian processes that are equivalent in law to the self-similar Gaussian process in question.
