On the sets of $2π$-periodic functions $f$, which are defined with a help of $(ψ, β)$-integrals of the functions $φ$ from $L_{1}$, we establish Lebesgue-type inequalities, in which the uniform norms of deviations of Fourier sums are expressed via the best approximations by trigonometric polynomials of the functions $φ$. We prove that obtained estimates are best possible, in the case when the sequences $ψ(k)$ decrease to zero faster than any power function.
In some important cases we establish the asymptotic equalities for the exact upper boundaries of uniform approximations by Fourier sums on the classes of $(ψ, β)$-integrals of the functions $φ$, which belong to the unit ball of the space $L_{1}$.
We find asymptotic equalities for the exact upper bounds of approximations by Fourier sums of Weyl-Nagy classes $W^r_{β,p}, 1\le p\le\infty,$ for rapidly growing exponents of smoothness $r$ $(r/n\rightarrow\infty)$ in the uniform metric. We obtain similar estimates for approximations of the classes $W^r_{β,1}$ in metrics of the spaces $L_p, 1\le p\le\infty$.
We establish asymptotic estimates for the least upper bounds of approximations in the uniform metric by Fourier sums of order $n-1$ of classes of $2π$-periodic Weyl--Nagy differentiable functions, $W^r_{β,p}, 1\le p\le \infty, β\in\mathbb{R},$ for high exponents of smoothness $r\ (r-1\ge \sqrt{n})$. We obtain similar estimates in metrics of the spaces $L_p, 1\le p\le\infty,$ for functional classes $W^r_{β,1}$.
We obtain exact for order estimates of best uniform approximations and uniform approximations by Fourier sums of classes of convolutions the periodic functions belong to unit balls of spaces $L_{p}, \ {1\leq p<\infty}$, with generating kernel $Ψ_β$, whose absolute values of Fourier coefficients $ψ(k)$ are such that $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ^{p'}(k)k^{p'-2}<\infty$, $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1$, and product $ψ(n)n^{\frac{1}{p}}$ can't tend to nought faster than power functions.
In metric of spaces $L_{s}, \ 1< s\leq\infty$, we obtain exact order estimates of best approximations and approximations by Fourier sums of classes of convolutions the periodic functions that belong to unit ball of space $L_{1}$, with generating kernel $Ψ_β(t)=\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ(k)\cos(kt-\frac{βπ}{2})$, $β\in\mathbb{R}$, whose coefficients $ψ(k)$ are such that product $ψ(n)n^{1-\frac{1}{s}}$, $1<s\leq\infty$, can't tend to nought faster than every power function and besides, if $1<s<\infty$, then $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ^{s}(k)k^{s-2}<\infty$ and if $s=\infty$, then $\sum\limits_…
In this paper we prove that if a multivariate function of a certain smoothness class is represented by a sum of $k$ arbitrarily behaved ridge functions, then it can be represented by a sum of $k$ ridge functions of the same smoothness class and a polynomial of degree at most $k-1$. This solves the problem posed by A. Pinkus in his monograph "Ridge Functions" up to a multivariate polynomial.
We find two-sides estimates for the best uniform approximations of classes of convolutions of $2π$-periodic functions from unit ball of the space $L_p, 1 \le p <\infty,$ with fixed kernels, modules of Fourier coefficients of which satisfy the condition $\sum\limits_{k=n+1}^\inftyψ(k)<ψ(n).$ In the case of $\sum\limits_{k=n+1}^\inftyψ(k)=o(1)ψ(n)$ the obtained estimates become the asymptotic equalities.
This paper considers the Lorentz space with mixed norm of periodic functions of many variables and of the generalized Nikol'skii -- Besov classes. Estimates for the order of approximation of the generalized Nikol'skii -- Besov classes by partial sums of Fourier's series for multiple trigonometric system in Lorentz spaces with mixed norm are obtained.
We obtain estimates exact in order for deviations of Zygmund sums in metrics of spaces $L_{q}$, $1<q<\infty$, on classes of $2π$-periodic functions, that admit the representation in the form of convolution of functions that belong to unit ball of the space $L_{1}$ with fixed kernel $Ψ_β$. We show that at certain values of the parameters that define the class $L^ψ_{β,1}$ and method of approximation, Zygmund sums provide the order of best approximation of given classes by trigonometric polynomials in metric $L_{q}$
We establish asymptotic estimates for exact upper bounds of uniform approximations by Fourier sums on the classes of $2π$-periodic functions, which are represented by convolutions of functions $φ(φ\bot 1)$ from unit ball of the space $L_{1}$ with fixed kernels $Ψ_β$ of the form $Ψ_β(t)=\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ(k) \cos\left(kt-\frac{βπ}{2}\right)$, $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}kψ(k)<\infty$, $ψ(k)\geq 0$, $β\in\mathbb{R}$.
We obtain order-exact estimates for uniform approximations by using Zygmund sums $Z^{s}_{n}$ of classes $C^ψ_{β,p}$ of $2π$-periodic continuous functions $f$ representable by convolutions of functions from unit balls of the space $L_{p}$, $1< p<\infty$, with a fixed kernels $Ψ_β\in L_{p'}$, $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1$. In addition, we find a set of allowed values of parameters (that define the class $C^ψ_{β,p}$ and the linear method $Z^{s}_{n}$) for which Zygmund sums and Fejer sums realize the order of the best uniform approximations by trigonometric polynomials of those classes.
We establish the exact-order estimates of uniform approximations by the Zygmund sums $Z^{s}_{n-1}$ of $2π$-periodic continuous functions $f$ from the classes $C^ψ_{β,p}$.These classes are defined by the convolutions of functions from the unit ball in the space $L_{p}$, $1\leq p<\infty$, with generating fixed kernels $Ψ_β(t)=\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ(k)\cos\left(kt+\frac{βπ}{2}\right)$, $Ψ_β\in L_{p'}$, $β\in \mathbb{R}$, $1/p+1/p'=1$. We additionally assume that the product $ψ(k)k^{s+1/p}$ is generally monotonically increasing with the rate of some power function, and, besides, for $1< p<\infty$ it…
We obtain order estimates for the best uniform orthogonal trigonometric approximations of $2π$-periodic functions, whose $(ψ,β)$-derivatives belong to unit balls of spaces $L_{p}, \ 1\leq p<\infty$, in case at consequences $ψ(k)$ are that product $ψ(n)n^{\frac{1}{p}}$ can tend to zero slower than any power function and $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ^{p'}(k)k^{p'-2}<\infty$ when $1<p<\infty$, $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1$ and $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ(k)<\infty$ when $p=1$. We also establish the analogical estimates in $L_{s}$-metric, $1< s\leq \infty$, for classes of the summable $(ψ,β)$-diffe…
Let $d\ge 2$ and $T$ be the convolution operator $Tf(x)=\int_{\reals^{d-1}} f(x'-t,x_d-|t|^2)\,dt$, which is is bounded from $L^{(d+1)/d}(\reals^d)$ to $L^{d+1}(\reals^d)$. We show that any critical point $f\in L^{(d+1)/d}$ of the functional $\norm{Tf}_{d+1}/\norm{f}_{(d+1)/d}$ is infinitely differentiable, and that $|x|^δf\in L^{(d+1)/d}$ for some $δ>0$. In particular, this holds for all extremizers of the associated inequality. This is done by exploiting a generalized Euler-Lagrange equation, and certain weighted norm inequalities for $T$.
This paper concerns the approximation by the Boolean sums of Jackson operators $\oplus^rJ_{k,s}(f)$ on the unit sphere $\mathbb S^{n-1}$ of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$. We prove the following the direct and inverse theorem for $\oplus^rJ_{k,s}(f)$: there are constants $C_1$ and $C_2$ such that \begin{equation*} C_1\|\oplus^rJ_{k,s}f-f\|_p \leq ω^{2r}(f,k^{-1})_p \leq C_2 \max_{v\geq k}\|\oplus^rJ_{k,s}f-f\|_p \end{equation*} for any positive integer $k$ and any $p$th Lebesgue integrable functions $f$ defined on $\mathbb S^{n-1}$, where $ω^{2r}(f,t)_p$ is the modulus of smoothness of degree $2r$ of $f$. W…
We find asymptotic equalities for exact upper bounds of approximations by Fourier sums in uniform metric on classes of $2π$-periodic functions, representable in the form of convolutions of functions $φ$, which belong to unit balls of spaces $L_{p}$, with generalized Poisson kernels. For obtained asymptotic equalities we introduce the estimates of remainder, which are expressed in the explicit form via the parameters of the problem.
Let $\mathbb{S}^{d-1}$ denote the unit sphere in Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 2$, equipped with surface measure $σ_{d-1}$. An instance of our main result concerns the regularity of solutions of the convolution equation \[ a\cdot(fσ_{d-1})^{\ast {(q-1)}}\big\vert_{\mathbb{S}^{d-1}}=f,\text{ a.e. on }\mathbb{S}^{d-1}, \] where $a\in C^\infty(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})$, $q\geq 2(d+1)/(d-1)$ is an integer, and the only a priori assumption is $f\in L^2(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})$. We prove that any such solution belongs to the class $C^\infty(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})$. In particular, we show that all critical po…
There were established the exact-order estimations of the best uniform approximations byψ the trigonometrical polynoms on the $C^ψ_{β,p}$ classes of $2π$-periodic continuous functions $f$, which are defined by the convolutions of the functions, which belong to the unit ball in $L_p$, $1\leq p <\infty$ spaces with generating fixed kernels $Ψ_β\subset|L_{p'}$, $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1$, whose Fourier coeficients decreasing to zero approximately as power functions. The exact order estimations were also established in $L_p$-metrics, $1 < p \leq\infty$ for $L^ψ_{β,1}$ classes of $2π$-periodic fu…
In this paper asymptotic equalities are found for the least upper bounds of deviations in the uniform metric of de la Vallee Poussin sums on classes of 2π-periodic (ψ,β)-differentiable functions admitting an analytic continuation into the given strip of the complex plane. As a consequence, asymptotic equalities are obtained on classes of convolutions of periodic functions generated by the Neumann kernel and the polyharmonic Poisson kernel.
We consider the problem of representation of a bivariate function by sums of ridge functions. We show that if a function of a certain smoothness class is represented by a sum of finitely many, arbitrarily behaved ridge functions, then it can also be represented by a sum of ridge functions of the same smoothness class. As an example, this result is applied to a homogeneous constant coefficient partial differential equation.
We give a shorter proof of Kanter's (1976) sharp Bessel function bound for concentrations of sums of independent symmetric random vectors. We provide sharp upper bounds for the sum of modified Bessel functions $I_0(x)+I_1(x)$, which might be of independent interest. Corollaries improve concentration or smoothness bounds for sums of independent random variables due to Cekanavicius & Roos (2006), Roos (2005), Barbour & Xia 1999), and Le Cam (1986).
