A theorem by Pridham and Lurie provides an equivalence between formal moduli problems and Lie algebras in characteristic zero. In his work, Lurie has distilled the axioms that the algebras appearing in the formal moduli problem need to satisfy, and worked out the case of $\mathbb{E}_\infty$-algebras using an incarnation of the Koszul duality, in the setting of $\infty$-operads. The more recent work of Calaque-Campos-Nuiten extends Lurie's work to obtain an equivalence between formal moduli problem parameterized by a colored operad, and algebras over its Koszul dual operad. This manuscript is both, a pedagogical exposition, and a questioning of their work, with modest, but original, supporting lemmas.
The configuration space of $n$ marked points on the complex plane is considered. We investigate a decomposition of this space by so-called Gauss-skizze i.e. a class of graphs being forests, introduced by Gauss. It is proved that this decomposition is a semi-algebraic topological stratification. It also forms a cell decomposition of the configuration space of $n$ marked points. Moreover, we prove that classical tools from deformation theory, ruled by a Maurer--Cartan equation, can be used only locally for Gauss-skizze. We prove that the deformation of the Gauss-skizze is governed by a Hamilton-…
We prove that a connected commutator (or NC) complete associative algebra can be recovered in the derived setting from its abelianization together with its natural induced structure. Specifically, we prove an equivalence between connected derived commutator complete associative algebras and connected commutative algebras equipped with a coaction of the comonad arising from the adjunction between associative and commutative algebras. This provides a Koszul dual description of connected derived commutator (or NC) complete associative algebras and furthermore may be interpreted as a theory of rel…
From a map of operads $η: O\rightarrow O'$, we introduce a cofibrant replacement of the operad $O$ in the category of bimodules over itself such that the corresponding model of the derived mapping space of bimodules $Bimod_{O}^{h}(O;O')$ is an algebra over the one dimensional little cubes operad $\mathcal{C}_{1}$. In the present work, we also build an explicit weak equivalence of $\mathcal{C}_{1}$-algebras from the loop space $ΩOperad^{h}(O;O')$ to $Bimod_{O}^{h}(O;O')$.
An affine action of an associative algebra $A$ on a vector space $V$ is an algebra morphism $A \to V \rtimes {\rm End}(V)$, where $V$ is a vector space and $V \rtimes {\rm End}(V)$ is the algebra of affine transformations of $V$. The one dimensional version of the Swiss-Cheese operad, denoted ${\mathrm{\bf{sc}}}_1$, is the operad that governs affine actions of associative algebras. This operad is Koszul and admits a minimal model denoted by $({\mathrm{\bf{sc}}}_1)_\infty$. Algebras over this minimal model are called Homotopy Affine Actions, they consist of an $A_\infty$-morphism $A \to V \rtim…
We study the subcategory of topological operads $P$ such that $P(0) = *$ (the category of unitary operads in our terminology). We use that this category inherits a model structure, like the category of all operads in topological spaces, and that the embedding functor of this subcategory of unitary operads into the category of all operads admits a left Quillen adjoint. We prove that the derived functor of this left Quillen adjoint functor induces a left inverse of the derived functor of our category embedding at the homotopy category level. We deduce from this result that the derived mapping sp…
In his famous paper entitled "Operads and motives in deformation quantization", Maxim Kontsevich constructed (in order to prove the formality of the little d-disks operad) a topological operad, which is called in the literature the Kontsevich operad, and which is denoted Kd in this paper. This operad has a nice structure: it is a multiplicative symmetric operad, that is, it comes with a morphism from the symmetric associative operad. There are many results in the literature concerning the formality of Kd. It is well known (by Kontsevich) that Kd is formal over reals as a symmetric operad. It i…
We consider an $A$-linear stable infinity-category $\mathcal{C}$ and the pair $(\mathcal{HH}^\bullet(\mathcal{C}/A),\mathcal{HH}_\bullet(\mathcal{C}/A))$ of the Hochschild cohomology spectrum (Hochschild cochain complex) and the Hochschild homology spectrum (Hochschild chain complex). The purpose of this paper is to provide a moduli-theoretic interpretation of the algebraic structure on the Hochschild pair of $\mathcal{C}$. The algebraic structure on the Hochschild pair is encoded by means of a two-colored topological operad called Kontsevich-Soibelman operad. The notions of cyclic deformation…
This thesis is divided into two parts. The first one is composed of recollections on operad theory, model categories, simplicial homotopy theory, rational homotopy theory, Maurer-Cartan spaces, and deformation theory. The second part deals with the theory of convolution algebras and some of their applications, as explained below. Suppose we are given a type of algebras, a type of coalgebras, and a relationship between those types of algebraic structures (encoded by an operad, a cooperad, and a twisting morphism respectively). Then, it is possible to endow the space of linear maps from a coalge…
We define an obstruction to the formality of a differential graded algebra over a graded operad defined over a commutative ground ring. This obstruction lives in the derived operadic cohomology of the algebra. Moreover, it determines all operadic Massey products induced on the homology algebra, hence the name of derived universal Massey product.
In order to solve two problems in deformation theory, we establish natural structures of homotopy Lie algebras and of homotopy associative algebras on tensor products of algebras of different types and on mapping spaces between coalgebras and algebras. When considering tensor products, such algebraic structures extend the Lie algebra or associative algebra structures that can be obtained by means of the Manin products of operads. These new homotopy algebra structures are proven by to compatible with the concepts of homotopy theory: $\infty$-morphisms and the Homotopy Transfer Theorem. We give …
Given a coalgebra C over a cooperad, and an algebra A over an operad, it is often possible to define a natural homotopy Lie algebra structure on hom(C,A), the space of linear maps between them, called the convolution algebra of C and A. In the present article, we use convolution algebras to define the deformation complex for infinity-morphisms of algebras over operads and coalgebras over cooperads. We also complete the study of the compatibility between convolution algebras and infinity-morphisms of algebras and coalgebras. We prove that the convolution algebra bifunctor can be extended to a b…
In this paper we develop the $A_\infty$-analog of the Maurer-Cartan simplicial set associated to an $L_\infty$-algebra and show how we can use this to study the deformation theory of $\infty$-morphisms of algebras over non-symmetric operads. More precisely, we define a functor from the category of (curved) $A_\infty$-algebras to simplicial sets which sends an $A_\infty$-algebra to the associated simplicial set of Maurer-Cartan elements. This functor has the property that it gives a Kan complex. We also show that this functor can be used to study deformation problems over a field of characteris…
The homotopy category of $N_\infty$ operads is equivalent to a finite lattice, and as the ambient group varies, there are various image constructions between these lattices. In this paper, we explain how to lift this algebraic structure back to the operad level. We show that lattice joins and meets correspond to derived operadic coproducts and products, and we show that the image constructions correspond to derived operadic induction, restriction, and coinduction, at least when taken along an injective homomorphism. We also prove that a derived variant of the Boardman-Vogt tensor product lifts…
This paper sets up the foundations for derived algebraic geometry, Goerss--Hopkins obstruction theory, and the construction of commutative ring spectra in the abstract setting of operadic algebras in symmetric spectra in an (essentially) arbitrary model category. We show that one can do derived algebraic geometry a la Toën--Vezzosi in an abstract category of spectra. We also answer in the affirmative a question of Goerss and Hopkins by showing that the obstruction theory for operadic algebras in spectra can be done in the generality of spectra in an (essentially) arbitrary model category. We c…
We develop a curved Koszul duality theory for algebras presented by quadratic-linear-constant relations over unital versions of binary quadratic operads. As an application, we study Poisson $n$-algebras given by polynomial functions on a standard shifted symplectic space. We compute explicit resolutions of these algebras using curved Koszul duality. We use these resolutions to compute derived enveloping algebras and factorization homology on parallelized simply connected closed manifolds with coefficients in these Poisson $n$-algebras.
In these proceedings we summarize previous work where we formalize a general concept of algebraic field theories using operads. After giving a gentle reminder of algebraic quantum field theory, operads and their algebras, we construct field theory operads, whose algebras are exactly algebraic field theories. Specifically, they satisfy a suitable version of the Einstein causality axiom. From this construction we get adjunctions between different types of field theories, including adjunctions related to local-to-global extensions and the time-slice axiom, and a quantization functor for linear fi…
The description of algebraic structure of n-fold loop spaces can be done either using the formalism of topological operads, or using variations of Segal's $Γ$-spaces. The formalism of topological operads generalises well to different categories yielding such notions as $\mathbb E_n$-algebras in chain complexes, while the $Γ$-space approach faces difficulties. In this paper we discuss how, by attempting to extend the Segal approach to arbitrary categoires, one arrives to the problem of understanding "weak" sections of a homotopical Grothendieck fibration. We propose a model for such sections, c…
We study an analogue of the notion of p-restricted Lie-algebra and of the notion of divided power algebra for PreLie-algebras. We deduce our definitions from the general theory of operads. We consider two variants Λ(P,-) and Γ(P,-) of the monad S(P,-) which governs the category of algebras classically associated to an operad P. For the operad of PreLie-algebras P=PreLie, we prove that the category of algebras over the monad Λ(PreLie,-) is identified with an already defined category of p-restricted PreLie-algebras introduced by A. Dzhumadil'daev. We give an explicit description of the structure…
The filtered derived category of an abelian category has played a useful role in subjects including geometric representation theory, mixed Hodge modules, and the theory of motives. We develop a natural generalization using current methods of homotopical algebra, in the formalisms of stable infinity-categories, stable model categories, and pretriangulated, idempotent-complete dg categories. We characterize the filtered stable infinity-category Fil(C) of a stable infinity-category C as the left exact localization of sequences in C along the infinity-categorical version of completion (and prove a…
We develop a theory of minimal models for algebras over an operad defined over a commutative ring, not necessarily a field, extending and supplementing the work of Sagave in the associative case.
This paper introduces a chain model for the Deligne-Mumford operad formed by homotopically trivializing the circle in a chain model for the framed little disks. We then show that under degeneration of the Hochschild to cyclic cohomology spectral sequence, a known action of the framed little disks on Hochschild cochains lifts to an action of this new chain model. We thus establish homotopy hyper-commutative algebra structures on both Hochschild and cyclic cochain complexes, and we interpret the gravity brackets on cyclic cohomology as obstructions to degeneration of this spectral sequence. Our …
If O is a reduced operad in symmetric spectra, an O-algebra I can be viewed as analogous to the augmentation ideal of an augmented algebra. Implicit in the literature on Topological Andre-Quillen homology is that such an I admits a canonical (and homotopically meaningful) decreasing O-algebra filtration I > I^2 > I^3 > ... satisfying various nice properties analogous to powers of an ideal in a ring. In this paper, we are explicit about these constructions. With R a commutative S-algebra, we study derived versions of the circle product M o_O I, where M is an O-bimodule, and I is an O-algebra in…
Equipping a non-equivariant topological $E_\infty$-operad with the trivial $G$-action gives an operad in $G$-spaces. For a $G$-spectrum, being an algebra over this operad does not provide any multiplicative norm maps on homotopy groups. Algebras over this operad are called naïve-commutative ring $G$-spectra. In this paper we take $G=SO(2)$ and we show that commutative algebras in the algebraic model for rational $SO(2)$-spectra model rational naïve-commutative ring $SO(2)$-spectra. In particular, this applies to show that the $SO(2)$-equivariant cohomology associated to an elliptic curve $C$ f…
The Deligne-Getzler-Hinich--$\infty$-groupoid or Maurer-Cartan simplicial set of an $L_\infty$-algebra plays an important role in deformation theory and many other areas of mathematics. Unfortunately, this construction only works over a field of characteristic $0$. The goal of this paper is to show that the notions of Maurer-Cartan equation and Maurer-Cartan simplicial set can be defined for a much larger number of operads than just the $L_\infty$-operad. More precisely, we show that the Koszul dual of every unital Hopf cooperad (a cooperad in the category of unital associative algebras) with …
