We prove that a certain eventually homological isomorphism between module categories induces a triangle equivalence between their singularity categories, Gorenstein defect categories and the stable categories of Gorenstein projective modules. Further, we show that Auslander-Reiten conjecture and Gorenstein symmetry conjecture can be reduced by eventually homological isomorphisms. Applying the results to arrow removal and vertex removal, we describe the Gorenstein projective modules over some non-monomial algebras, and we verify the Auslander-Reiten conjecture for certain algebras.
Gorenstein homological algebra is a kind of relative homological algebra which has been developed to a high level since more than four decades. In this report we review the basic theory of Gorenstein homological algebra of artin algebras. It is hoped that such a theory will help to understand the famous Gorenstein symmetric conjecture of artin algebras. With only few exceptions all the results in this report are contained in the existing literature. We have tried to keep the exposition as self-contained as possible. This report can be viewed as a preparation for learning the newly developed th…
Let $R$ be a two-sided noetherian ring and $M$ be a nilpotent $R$-bimodule, which is finitely generated on both sides. We study Gorenstein homological properties of the tensor ring $T_R(M)$. Under certain conditions, the ring $R$ is Gorenstein if and only if so is $T_R(M)$. We characterize Gorenstein projective $T_R(M)$-modules in terms of $R$-modules.
We associate to a localizable module a left retraction of algebras; it is a homological ring epimorphism that preserves singularity categories. We study the behavior of left retractions with respect to Gorenstein homological properties (for example, being Gorenstein algebras or CM-free). We apply the results to Nakayama algebras. It turns out that for a connected Nakayama algebra $A$, there exists a connected self-injective Nakayama algebra $A'$ such that there is a sequence of left retractions linking $A$ to $A'$; in particular, the singularity category of $A$ is triangle equivalent to the st…
We prove that for a Frobenius extension, a module over the extension ring is Gorenstein projective if and only if its underlying module over the base ring is Gorenstein projective. For a separable Frobenius extension between Artin algebras, we obtain that the extension algebra is CM-finite (resp. CM-free) if and only if so is the base algebra. Furthermore, we prove that the reprensentation dimension of Artin algebras is invariant under separable Forbenius extensions.
In this paper we mainly study the homological properties of dual modules over $k$-Gorenstein rings. For a right quasi $k$-Gorenstein ring $Λ$, we show that the right self-injective dimension of $Λ$ is at most $k$ if and only if each $M \in$mod $Λ$ satisfying the condition that Ext$_Λ^i(M, Λ)=0$ for any $1\leq i \leq k$ is reflexive. For an $\infty$-Gorenstein ring, we show that the big and small finitistic dimensions and the self-injective dimension of $Λ$ are identical. In addition, we show that if $Λ$ is a left quasi $\infty$-Gorenstein ring and $M\in$mod $Λ$ with grade$M$ finite, then Ext$_…
We show that a differential module is Gorenstein projective if and only if its underlying module is Gorenstein projective. Dually, a differential module is Gorenstein injective if and only if its underlying module is Gorenstein injective.
We generalise notions of Gorenstein homological algebra for rings to the context of arbitrary abelian categories. The results are strongest for module categories of rngs with enough idempotents. We also reformulate the notion of Frobenius extensions of noetherian rings into a setting which allows for direct generalisation to arbitrary abelian categories. The abstract theory is then applied to the BGG category O for Lie superalgebras, which can now be seen as a "Frobenius extension" of the corresponding category for the underlying Lie algebra and is therefore "Gorenstein". In particular we obta…
n-recollements of triangulated categories and n-derived-simple algebras are introduced. The relations between the n-recollements of derived categories of algebras and the Cartan determinants, homological smoothness and Gorensteinness of algebras respectively are clarified. As applications, the Cartan determinant conjecture is reduced to 1-derived-simple algebras, and the Gorenstein symmetry conjecture is reduced to 2-derived-simple algebras.
Relations between Gorenstein derived categories, Gorenstein defect categories and Gorenstein stable categories are established. Using these, the Gorensteinness of an algebra $A$ and invariants with respect to recollements of the bounded Gorenstein derived category $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$ of $A$ are investigated. Specifically, the Gorensteinness of $A$ is characterized in three ways: the existence of Auslander-Reiten triangles in $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$; recollements of $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$; and also Gorenstein derived equivalences. It is shown that the finiteness …
We prove that a finite dimensional algebra $A$ with representation-finite subcategory consisting of modules that are semi-Gorenstein-projective and $n$-th syzygy modules is left weakly Gorenstein. This generalises a theorem of Ringel and Zhang who proved the result in the case $n=1$. As an application we show that monomial algebras and endomorphism rings of modules over representation-finite algebras are weakly Gorenstein. We then give a new connection between the theory of dominant dimension and Gorenstein homological algebra for gendo-symmetric algebras. As an application, we will see that t…
We prove that any faithful Frobenius functor between abelian categories preserves the Gorenstein projective dimension of objects. Consequently, it preserves and reflects Gorenstein projective objects. We give conditions on when a Frobenius functor preserves the stable categories of Gorenstein projective objects, the singularity categories and the Gorenstein defect categories, respectively. In the appendix, we give a direct proof of the following known result: for an abelian category with enough projectives and injectives, its global Gorenstein projective dimension coincides with its global Gor…
Dualities of resolving subcategories of finitely generated modules over Artin algebras are characterized as dualities with respect to Wakamatsu tilting bimodules. By restriction of these dualities to resolving subcategories of finitely generated modules with finite projective or Gorenstein-projective dimensions, Miyashita's duality and Huisgen-Zimmermann's correspondence on tilting modules as well as their Gorenstein version are obtained. Applications include constructing triangle equivalences of derived categories of finitely generated Gorenstein-projective modules and showing the invariance …
A new homological symmetry condition is exhibited that extends and unifies several recently defined and widely used concepts. Applications include general constructions of tilting modules and derived equivalences, and characterisations of Gorenstein properties of endomorphism rings.
Let $Λ$ and $Γ$ be left and right noetherian rings and $_ΛU$ a Wakamatsu tilting module with $Γ={\rm End}(_ΛT)$. We introduce a new definition of $U$-dominant dimensions and show that the $U$-dominant dimensions of $_ΛU$ and $U_Γ$ are identical. We characterize $k$-Gorenstein modules in terms of homological dimensions and the property of double homological functors preserving monomorphisms. We also study a generalization of $k$-Gorenstein modules, and characterize it in terms of some similar properties of $k$-Gorenstein modules.
For any ring R the category of monomorphisms is a full subcategory of the morphsim category over R, where the latter is equivalent to the module category of the triangular matrix ring with entries the ring R. In this work, we consider the monomorphism category as a full subcategory of the module category over the Morita ring with all entries the ring R and zero bimodule homomorphisms. This approach provides an interesting link between Morita rings and monomorphism categories. The aim of this paper is two-fold. First, we construct Gorenstein-projective modules over Morita rings with zero bimodu…
For a recollement $(\mathcal{D}B,\mathcal{D}A,\mathcal{D}C)$ of derived categories of algebras, we investigate when the functor $j^*:\mathcal{D}A\rightarrow\mathcal{D}C$ is an eventually homological isomorphism. In this context, we compare the algebras $A$ and $C$ with respect to Gorensteinness, singularity categories and the finite generation condition Fg for the Hochschild cohomology. The results are applied to stratifying ideals, triangular matrix algebras and derived discrete algebras.
We prove that a certain homological epimorphism between two algebras induces a triangle equivalence between their singularity categories. Applying the result to a construction of matrix algebras, we describe the singularity categories of some non-Gorenstein algebras.
We study criteria for a ring - or more generally, for a small category - to be Gorenstein and for a module over it to be of finite projective dimension. The goal is to unify the universal coefficient theorems found in the literature and to develop a machinery for proving new ones. Among the universal coefficient theorems covered by our methods we find, besides all the classic examples, several exotic examples arising from the KK-theory of C*-algebras and also Neeman's Brown-Adams representability theorem for compactly generated categories.
Tate-Hochschild cohomology of an algebra is a generalization of ordinary Hochschild cohomology, which is defined on positive and negative degrees and has a ring structure. Our purpose of this paper is to study the eventual periodicity of an algebra by using the Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring. First, we deal with eventually periodic algebras and show that they are not necessarily Gorenstein algebras. Secondly, we characterize the eventual periodicity of a Gorenstein algebra as the existence of an invertible homogeneous element of the Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring of the algebra, which is our…
We study homological properties of test modules that are, in principle, modules that detect finite homological dimensions. The main outcome of our results is a generalization of a classical theorem of Auslander and Bridger: we prove that, if a commutative Noetherian complete local ring R admits a test module of finite Gorenstein dimension, then R is Gorenstein.

We generalize the monomorphism category from quiver (with monomial relations) to arbitrary finite dimensional algebras by a homological definition. Given two finite dimension algebras $A$ and $B$, we use the special monomorphism category Mon(B, A-Gproj) to describe some Gorenstein projective bimodules over the tensor product of $A$ and $B$. If one of the two algebras is Gorenstein, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for Mon(B, A-Gproj) being the category of all Gorenstein projective bimodules. In addition, If both $A$ and $B$ are Gorenstein, we can describe the category of all Gorens…
We provide a framework for part of the homological theory of Z-algebras and their generalizations, directed towards analogues of the Auslander-Gorenstein condition and the associated double Ext spectral sequence that are useful for enveloping algebras of Lie algebras and related rings. As an application, we prove the equidimensionality of the characteristic variety of an irreducible representation of the Z-algebra, and for related representations over quantum symplectic resolutions. In the special case of Cherednik algebras of type A, this answers a question raised by the authors.
In this paper we study homological dimensions of finitely generated modules over commutative Noetherian local rings, called reducing homological dimensions. We obtain new characterizations of Gorenstein and complete intersection local rings via reducing homological dimensions. For example, we extend a classical result of Auslander and Bridger, and prove that a local ring is Gorenstein if and only if each finitely generated module over it has finite reducing Gorenstein dimension. Along the way, we prove various connections between complexity and reducing projective dimension of modules.
Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with a proper class $ξ$ of $\mathbb{E}$-triangles. The authors introduced and studied $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective and $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$injective in \cite{HZZ}. In this paper, we discuss Gorenstein homological dimensions for extriangulated categories. More precisely, we first give some characterizations of $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective dimension by using derived functors on $\mathcal{C}$. Second, let $\mathcal{P}(ξ)$ (resp. $\mathcal{I}(ξ)$) be a generating (resp. cogenerating) subcategory of $\mathcal{C}$. We show that the…
From certain triangle functors, called non-negative functors, between the bounded derived categories of abelian categories with enough projective objects, we introduce their stable functors which are certain additive functors between the stable categories of the abelian categories. The construction generalizes a previous work by Hu and Xi. We show that the stable functors of non-negative functors have nice exactness property and are compatible with composition of functors. This allows us to compare conveniently the homological properties of objects linked by the stable functors. Particularly, …
In this paper, we introduce the notion of excellent extension of rings. Let $Γ$ be an excellent extension of an artin algebra $Λ$, we prove that $Λ$ satisfies the Gorenstein symmetry conjecture (resp. finitistic dimension conjecture, Auslander-Gorenstein conjecture, Nakayama conjecture) if and only if so does $Γ$. As a special case of excellent extensions, if $G$ is a finite group whose order is invertible in $Λ$ acting on $Λ$ and $Λ$ is $G$-stable, we prove that if the skew group algebras $ΛG$ satisfies strong Nakayama conjecture (resp. generalized Nakayama conjecture), then so does $Λ$.
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be an abelian category. For a pair $(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{Y}$ of classes of objects in $\mathcal{A},$ we define the weak and the $(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{Y})$-Gorenstein relative projective objects in $\mathcal{A}$. We point out that such objects generalize the usual Gorenstein projective objects and others generalizations appearing in the literature as Ding-projective, Ding-injective, $\mathcal{X}$-Gorenstein projective, Gorenstein AC-projective and $G_C$-projective modules and Cohen-Macaulay objects in abelian categories. We show that the principal results on Gorenstein proje…
Let $Λ$ be a left and right noetherian ring. First, for $m,n\in\mathbb{N}\cup\{\infty\}$, we give equivalent conditions for a given $Λ$-module to be $n$-torsionfree and have $m$-torsionfree transpose. Using them, we investigate totally reflexive modules and reducing Gorenstein dimension. Next, we introduce homological invariants for $Λ$-modules which we call upper reducing projective and Gorenstein dimensions. We provide an inequality of upper reducing projective dimension and complexity when $Λ$ is commutative and local. Using it, we consider how upper reducing projective dimension relates to…
In this paper we study the finiteness of global Gorenstein AC-homological dimensions for rings, and answer the questions posed by Becerril, Mendoza, Pérez and Santiago. As an application, we show that any left (or right) coherent and left Gorenstein ring has a projective and injective stable homotopy category, which improves the known result by Beligiannis.
In this paper we show that Gorensteinness, singularity categories and the finite generation condition Fg for the Hochschild cohomology are invariants under the arrow removal operation for a finite dimensional algebra.
In the paper, we investigate the lifting of recollements with respect to Gorenstein-projective modules. Specifically, a homological ring epimorphism can induce a lifting of the recollement of the stable category of finitely generated Gorenstein-projective modules; the recollement of the bounded Gorenstein derived categories of some upper triangular matrix algebras can be lifted to the homotopy category of Gorenstein-projective modules. As a byproduct, we give a sufficient and necessary condition on the upper triangular matrix algebra T_{n}(A) to be of finite CM-type for an algebra A of finite …
We show that a properly stratified algebra is Gorenstein if and only if the characteristic tilting module coincides with the characteristic cotilting module. We further show that properly stratified Gorenstein algebras $A$ enjoy strong homological properties such as all Gorenstein projective modules being properly stratified and all endomorphism rings $\operatorname{End}_A(Δ(i))$ being Frobenius algebras. We apply our results to the study of properly stratified algebras that are minimal Auslander-Gorenstein algebras in the sense of Iyama-Solberg and calculate under suitable conditions their Ri…
The theory of finitely generated relative (co)tilting modules has been established in the 1980s by Auslander and Solberg, and infinitely generated relative tilting modules have recently been studied by many authors in the context of Gorenstein homological algebra. In this work, we build on the theory of infinitely generated Gorenstein tilting modules by developing "Gorenstein tilting approximations" and employing these approximations to study Gorenstein tilting classes and their associated relative cotorsion pairs. As applications of our results, we discuss the problem of existence of compleme…
Let $A$ be an Artin algebra, $M$ be a Gorenstein projective $A$-module and $B =$ End$_A M$, then $M$ is a $A$-$B$-bimodule. We use the restricted flat dimension of $M_B$ to give a characterization of the homological dimensions of $A$ and $B$, and obtain the following main results: (1) if $A$ is a CM-finite algebra with $\cal GP$($A$) = add$_AE$ and fin.dim $A \geq 2,$ then ${\rm fin.dim}\ B \leq {\rm fin.dim}\ A + {\rm rfd}(M_B) +{\rm pd}_B{\rm Hom}_A(M, E);$ (2) If $A$ is a CM-finite $n$-Gorenstein algebra with $\cal GP$($A$) = add$_AE$ and $n \geq 2$, then gl.dim $B \leq n + {\rm pd}_B{\rm H…
We study Artin algebras $A$ and commutative Noetherian complete local rings $R$ in connection with the following decomposition property of Gorenstein-projective modules: $(*)$ any Gorenstein-projective module is a direct sum of finitely generated modules. We show that this direct decomposition property is related to the property of the algebra $A$, or the ring $R$, being (virtually) Gorenstein of finite Cohen-Macaquly type. Along the way we generalize classical results of Auslander and Ringel-Tachikawa from the early seventies, and results of Chen and Yoshino on the structure of Gorenstein-pro…
In this paper we introduce a generalization of the Nakayama functor for finite-dimensional algebras. This is obtained by abstracting its interaction with the forgetful functor to vector spaces. In particular, we characterize the Nakayama functor in terms of an ambidextrous adjunction of monads and comonads. In the second part we develop a theory of Gorenstein homological algebra for such Nakayama functor. We obtain analogues of several classical results for Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras. One of our main examples is the module category $Λ\text{-}\operatorname{Mod}$ of a $k$-algebra $Λ$, where $k$…
Following the well-established terminology in commutative algebra, any (not necessarily commutative) finite-dimensional local algebra $A$ with radical $J$ will be said to be short provided $J^3 = 0$. As in the commutative case, we show: if a short local algebra $A$ has an indecomposable non-projective Gorenstein-projective module $M$, then either $A$ is self-injective (so that all modules are Gorenstein-projective) and then $|J^2| \le 1$, or else $|J^2| = |J/J^2| - 1$ and $|JM| = |J^2||M/JM|$. More generally, we focus the attention to semi-Gorenstein-projective and $\infty$-torsionfree modules…
