We propose a simple method to construct step mask and corresponding step wavelet functions that generate tight wavelet frames on the field of p-adic numbers. To construct tight wavelet frames we do not use the principle of unitary extension, we use Pontryagin's principle of duality.
The approach to p-adic wavelet theory from the point of view of representation theory is discussed. p-Adic wavelet frames can be constructed as orbits of some p-adic groups of transformations. These groups are automorphisms of the tree of balls in the p-adic space. In the present paper we consider deformations of the standard p-adic metric in many dimensions and construct some corresponding groups of transformations. We build several examples of p-adic wavelet bases. We show that the constructed wavelets are eigenvectors of some pseudodifferential operators.
A variety of different orthogonal wavelet bases has been found in L_2(R) for the last three decades. It appeared that similar constructions also exist for functions defined on some other algebraic structures, such as the Cantor and Vilenkin groups and local fields of positive characteristic. In the present paper we show that the situation is quite different for the field of $p$-adic numbers. Namely, it is proved that any orthogonal wavelet basis consisting of band-limited (periodic) functions is a modification of Haar basis. This is a little bit unexpected because from the wavelet theory point…
The concept of $p$-adic quincunx Haar MRA was introduced and studied in~\cite{KS10}. In contrast to the real setting, infinitely many different wavelet bases are generated by a $p$-adic MRA. We give an explicit description for all wavelet functions corresponding to the quincunx Haar MRA. Each one generates an orthogonal basis, one of them was presented in~\cite{KS10}. A connection between quincunx Haar bases and two-dimensional separable Haar MRA is also found.
We consider a class of $(1,M)$-elementary step functions on the $p$-adic Vilenkin group. We prove that $(1,M)$-elementary step function generates a MRA on $p$-adic Vilenkin group iff it is generated by a rooted tree on the set of vertices $\{0,1,\dots p-1\}$ with 0 as a root. We study $p$-adic multiresolution analyses (MRAs). A complete characterisation of test functions generating a MRA (scaling functions) is given. We prove that only 1-periodic test functions may be taken as orthogonal scaling functions and that all such scaling functions generate Haar MRA. We also suggest a method of constructing sets of wavelet functions and prove that any set of wavelet functions generates a $p$-adic wavelet frame.
Tight wavelet frames are computationally and theoretically attractive, but most existing multivariate constructions have various drawbacks, including low vanishing moments for the wavelets, or a large number of wavelet masks. We further develop existing work combining sums of squares representations with tight wavelet frame construction, and present a new and general method for constructing such frames. Focusing on the case of box splines, we also demonstrate how the flexibility of our approach can lead to tight wavelet frames with high numbers of vanishing moments for all of the wavelet masks…
Wavelet frames for $L^2({\mathbb R})$ can be characterized by means of spectral techniques. This work uses spectral formulas to determine all the tight wavelet frames for $L^2({\mathbb R})$ with a fixed finite number of generators of minimal support. The method associates wavelet frames of this type with certain inner operator-valued functions in Hardy spaces. The cases with one and two generators are completely solved.
Recent results from real algebraic geometry and the theory of polynomial optimization are related in a new framework to the existence question of multivariate tight wavelet frames whose generators have at least one vanishing moment. Namely, several equivalent formulations of the so-called Unitary Extension Principle by Ron and Shen are interpreted in terms of hermitian sums of squares of certain nonnegative trigonometric polynomials and in terms of semi-definite programming. The latter together with the recent results in algebraic geometry and semi-definite programming allow us to answer affir…
Continuing our recent work we study polynomial masks of multivariate tight wavelet frames from two additional and complementary points of view: convexity and system theory. We consider such polynomial masks that are derived by means of the unitary extension principle from a single polynomial. We show that the set of such polynomials is convex and reveal its extremal points as polynomials that satisfy the quadrature mirror filter condition. Multiplicative structure of such polynomial sets allows us to improve the known upper bounds on the number of frame generators derived from box splines. In …
We consider a class of $(N,M)$-elementary step functions on the $p$-adic Vilenkin group. We prove that $(N,M)$-elementary step function generates a MRA on $p$-adic Vilenkin group iff it is generated by a special $N$-valid rooted tree on the set of vertices $\{0,1,\dots p-1\}$ with the vector $(0,...,0)\in \mathbb Z^N$ as a root. In this paper, we introduce a new (constructive) characterization of tight wavelet frames on non-flat domains in both continuum setting, i.e. on manifolds, and discrete setting, i.e. on graphs; discuss how fast tight wavelet frame transforms can be computed and how they can be effectively used to process graph data. We start with defining the quasi-affine systems on a given manifold $\cM$ that is formed by generalized dilations and shifts of a finite collection of wavelet functions $Ψ:=\{ψ_j: 1\le j\le r\}\subset L_2(\R)$. We further require that $ψ_j$ is generated by some refinable function $…
We establish dilation theorems for non-tight frames with additional structure, i.e., frames generated by unitary groups of operators and projective unitary representations. This generalizes previous dilation results for Parseval frames due to Han and Larson and Gabardo and Han. We also extend the dilation theorem for Parseval wavelets, due to Dutkay, Han, Picioroaga, and Sun , by identifying the optimal class of frame wavelets for which dilation into an orthonormal wavelet is possible.
This paper presents a discussion on $p$-adic multiframe by means of its wavelet structure, called as multiframelet, which is build upon $p$-adic wavelet construction. Multiframelets create much excitement in mathematicians as well as engineers on account of its tremendous potentiality to analyze rapidly changing transient signals. Moreover, multiframelets can produce more accurately localized temporal and frequency information, due to this fact it produce a methodology to reconstruct signals by means of decomposition technique. Various properties of multiframelet sequence in $L^{2}(\mathbb{Q}_…
We study the construction of nonuniform tight wavelet frames for the Lebesgue space $L^2(\mathbb{R})$, where the related translation set is not necessary a group. The main purpose of this paper is to prove the unitary extension principle (UEP) and the oblique extension principle (OEP) for construction of multi-generated nonuniform tight wavelet frames for $L^2(\mathbb{R})$. Some examples are also given to illustrate the results.
We show that the spin wavelets on the sphere $S^2$, which were constructed by the first author and Marinucci in an earlier article, can be chosen so as to form a nearly tight frame. These spin wavelets can be applied to the study of the polarization of cosmic microwave background radiation. For certain of these frames, there is a positive $C$ such that each frame element at scale $a^j$ is supported in a geodesic ball of radius $Ca^j$.
This paper produces various results on $p$-adic multiframelet. Multiframelet is a frame-like sequence generated by multiple functions along with wavelet structure. Various properties of multiframelet in $L^{2}(\mathbb{Q}_{p})$ have been analyzed. Also multiframelet operator on $p$-adic setting has been produced and characterized. Furthermore, multiframelet set in $\mathbb{Q}_{p}$ has been engendered and scrutinized.
We establish system of equations for single function normalized tight frame wavelets with compact supports associated with $2\times 2$ expansive integral matrices in $L^2(\R^2)$.
In this paper, an algorithm based on polyphase matrix for constructing a pair of orthogonal wavelet frames is suggested, and a general form for all orthogonal tight wavelet frames on local fields of positive characteristic is described. Moreover, we investigate their properties by means of the Fourier transform.
Let $q\geq 2$ be an integer, and $\Bbb F_q^d$, $d\geq 1$, be the vector space over the cyclic space $\Bbb F_q$. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, we obtain sufficient conditions on $E \subset \Bbb F_q^d$ such that the inverse Fourier transform of $1_E$ generates a tight wavelet frame in $L^2(\Bbb F_q^d)$. We call these sets (tight) wavelet frame sets. The conditions are given in terms of multiplicative and translational tilings, which is analogous with Theorem 1.1 ([20]) by Wang in the setting of finite fields. In the second part of the paper, we exhibit a constructive method for o…
Dual pseudo splines constitute a new class of refinable functions with B-splines as special examples, which was introduced in \cite{DHSS}. In this paper, we shall construct Riesz wavelet associated with dual pseudo splines. Furthermore, we use dual pseudo splines to construct tight frame systems with desired approximation order by applying the unitary extension principle.
The local trace function introduced in \cite{Dut} is used to derive equations that relate multiwavelets and multiscaling functions in the context of a generalized multiresolution analysis, without appealing to filters. A construction of normalized tight frame wavelets is given. Particular instances of the construction include normalized tight frame and orthonormal wavelet sets.
This work characterizes (dyadic) wavelet frames for $L^2({\mathbb R})$ by means of spectral techniques. These techniques use decomposability properties of the frame operator in spectral representations associated to the dilation operator. The approach is closely related to usual Fourier domain fiberization techniques, dual Gramian analysis and extension principles, which are described here on the basis of the periodized Fourier transform. In a second paper of this series, we shall show how the spectral formulas obtained here permit us to calculate all the tight wavelet frames for $L^2({\mathbb…
It is an open problem whether any pair of Bessel sequences with wavelet structure can be extended to a pair of dual frames by adding a pair of singly generated wavelet systems. We consider the particular case where the given wavelet systems are generated by the multiscale setup with trigonometric masks and provide a positive answer under extra assumptions. We also identify a number of conditions that are necessary for the extension to dual multiscale wavelet frames with any number of generators, and show that they imply that an extension with two pairs of wavelet systems is possible. Along the…
We consider the problem of designing spectral graph filters for the construction of dictionaries of atoms that can be used to efficiently represent signals residing on weighted graphs. While the filters used in previous spectral graph wavelet constructions are only adapted to the length of the spectrum, the filters proposed in this paper are adapted to the distribution of graph Laplacian eigenvalues, and therefore lead to atoms with better discriminatory power. Our approach is to first characterize a family of systems of uniformly translated kernels in the graph spectral domain that give rise …

Spline wavelet tight frames of Ron-Shen have been used widely in frame based image analysis and restorations. However, except for the tight frame property and the approximation order of the truncated series, there are few other properties of this family of spline wavelet tight frames to be known. This paper is to present a few new properties of this family that will provide further understanding of it and, hopefully, give some indications why it is efficient in image analysis and restorations. In particular, we present a recurrence formula of computing generators of higher order spline wavelet…
We introduce a construction of multiscale tight frames on general domains. The frame elements are obtained by spectral filtering of the integral operator associated with a reproducing kernel. Our construction extends classical wavelets as well as generalized wavelets on both continuous and discrete non-Euclidean structures such as Riemannian manifolds and weighted graphs. Moreover, it allows to study the relation between continuous and discrete frames in a random sampling regime, where discrete frames can be seen as Monte Carlo estimates of the continuous ones. Pairing spectral regularization …
In this paper, we introduce Gabor shearlets, a variant of shearlet systems, which are based on a different group representation than previous shearlet constructions: they combine elements from Gabor and wavelet frames in their construction. As a consequence, they can be implemented with standard filters from wavelet theory in combination with standard Gabor windows. Unlike the usual shearlets, the new construction can achieve a redundancy as close to one as desired. Our construction follows the general strategy for shearlets. First we define group-based Gabor shearlets and then modify them to …

The theory of (tight) wavelet frames has been extensively studied in the past twenty years and they are currently widely used for image restoration and other image processing and analysis problems. The success of wavelet frame based models, including balanced approach and analysis based approach, is due to their capability of sparsely approximating piecewise smooth functions like images. Motivated by the balanced approach and analysis based approach, we shall propose a wavelet frame based $\ell_0$ minimization model, where the $\ell_0$ "norm" of the frame coefficients is penalized. We adapt th…
Shearlet tight frames have been extensively studied during the last years due to their optimal approximation properties of cartoon-like images and their unified treatment of the continuum and digital setting. However, these studies only concerned shearlet tight frames generated by a band-limited shearlet, whereas for practical purposes compact support in spatial domain is crucial. In this paper, we focus on cone-adapted shearlet systems which -- accounting for stability questions -- are associated with a general irregular set of parameters. We first derive sufficient conditions for such cone-a…
Let $\bf M$ be a smooth compact oriented Riemannian manifold, and let $Δ$ be the Laplace-Beltrami operator on ${\bf M}$. Say $0 \neq f \in \mathcal{S}(\RR^+)$, and that $f(0) = 0$. For $t > 0$, let $K_t(x,y)$ denote the kernel of $f(t^2 Δ)$. Suppose $f$ satisfies Daubechies' criterion, and $b > 0$. For each $j$, write ${\bf M}$ as a disjoint union of measurable sets $E_{j,k}$ with diameter at most $ba^j$, and comparable to $ba^j$ if $ba^j$ is sufficiently small. Take $x_{j,k} \in E_{j,k}$. We then show that the functions $ϕ_{j,k}(x)=[μ(E_{j,k})]^{1/2} \bar{K_{a^j}}(x_{j,k},x)$ form a frame for…
The unitary extension principle (UEP) by Ron and Shen yields conditions for the construction of a multi-generated tight wavelet frame for $L^2(\mr^s)$ based on a given refinable function. In this paper we show that the UEP can be generalized to locally compact abelian groups. In the general setting, the resulting frames are generated by modulates of a collection of functions, via the Fourier transform this corresponds to a generalized shift-invariant system. Both the stationary and the nonstationary case are covered. We provide general constructions, based on B-splines on the group itself as w…
