Dual pseudo splines constitute a new class of refinable functions with B-splines as special examples, which was introduced in \cite{DHSS}. In this paper, we shall construct Riesz wavelet associated with dual pseudo splines. Furthermore, we use dual pseudo splines to construct tight frame systems with desired approximation order by applying the unitary extension principle.
Homogeneous wavelets and framelets have been extensively investigated in the classical theory of wavelets and they are often constructed from refinable functions via the multiresolution analysis. On the other hand, nonhomogeneous wavelets and framelets enjoy many desirable theoretical properties and are often intrinsically linked to the refinable structure and multiresolution analysis. In this paper we shall provide a comprehensive study on connecting homogeneous wavelets and framelets to nonhomogeneous ones with the refinable structure. This allows us to understand better the structure of hom…

Spline wavelet tight frames of Ron-Shen have been used widely in frame based image analysis and restorations. However, except for the tight frame property and the approximation order of the truncated series, there are few other properties of this family of spline wavelet tight frames to be known. This paper is to present a few new properties of this family that will provide further understanding of it and, hopefully, give some indications why it is efficient in image analysis and restorations. In particular, we present a recurrence formula of computing generators of higher order spline wavelet…
It is well-known that the $m$-th order cardinal $B$-spline wavelet, $ψ_{m},$ decays exponentially. Our aim in this paper is to determine the exact rate of this decay and thereby to describe the asymptotic behaviour of $ψ_{m}$.
Battle-Lemarie wavelet systems of natural orders are established in the paper. The main result of the work is decomposition theorem in Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with local Muckenhoupt weights, which is performed in terms of bases generated by the systems of such a type. Battle-Lemarie wavelets are splines and suit very well for the study of integration operators.
Analysis on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{2}$ found many applications in seismology, weather prediction, astrophysics, signal analysis, crystallography, computer vision, computerized tomography, neuroscience, and statistics. In the last two decades, the importance of these and other applications triggered the development of various tools such as splines and wavelet bases suitable for the unit spheres $\mathbb{S}^{2}$, $\>\>\mathbb{S}^{3}$ and the rotation group $SO(3)$. Present paper is a summary of some of results of the author and his collaborators on generalized (average) variational splines…
In this paper it is shown, that B-splines are scaling functions for any natural N. For any natural N construction of Haar wavelets, Kotelnikov-Shannon wavelets, nonorthogonal wavelets based on B-splines is given. Examples of construction of filters of N-channel decomposition of signal and filters of reconstruction based on B-splines are given
Wavelet families arise by scaling and translations of a prototype function, called the {\em {mother wavelet}}. The construction of wavelet bases for cardinal spline spaces is generally carried out within the multi-resolution analysis scheme. Thus, the usual way of increasing the dimension of the multi-resolution subspaces is by augmenting the scaling factor. We show here that, when working on a compact interval, the identical effect can be achieved without changing the wavelet scale but reducing the translation parameter. By such a procedure we generate a redundant frame, called a {\em{diction…
Generalizing wavelets by adding desired redundancy and flexibility, framelets are of interest and importance in many applications such as image processing and numerical algorithms. Several key properties of framelets are high vanishing moments for sparse multiscale representation, fast framelet transforms for numerical efficiency, and redundancy for robustness. However, it is a challenging problem to study and construct multivariate nonseparable framelets, mainly due to their intrinsic connections to factorization and syzygy modules of multivariate polynomial matrices. In this paper, we circumv…
In this paper, we investigate the wavelet coefficients for function spaces $\mathcal{A}_k^p=\{f: \|(i ω)^k\hat{f}(ω)\|_p\leq 1\}, k\in N, p\in(1,\infty)$ using an important quantity $C_{k,p}(ψ)$. In particular, Bernstein type inequalities associated with wavelets are established. We obtained a sharp inequality of Bernstein type for splines, which induces a lower bound for the quantity $C_{k,p}(ψ)$ with $ψ$ being the semiorthogonal spline wavelets. We also study the asymptotic behavior of wavelet coefficients for both the family of Daubechies orthonormal wavelets and the family of semiorthogona…
In this paper, we introduce the new class of twisted $B$-splines and study some properties of these B-splines. We also investigate the system of twisted translates and the wavelets corresponding to these twisted $B$-splines.
We use Lorentz polynomials to present the solutions explicitly of equations (6.1.7) of [I. Daubechies, Ten lectures on wavelets, CBMS-NSF Regional Conference Series in Applied Mathematics, 61. Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), Philadelphia, PA, 1992] and (4.9) of [I. Daubechies, Orthonormal bases of compactly supported wavelets. Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 41 (1988), no. 7, 909--996] sot that we give an efficient way to prove Daubechies' results on the existence of spline type orthogonal scaling functions and to evaluate Daubechies scaling functions.

We exhibit the necessary range for which functions in the Sobolev spaces $L^s_p$ can be represented as an unconditional sum of orthonormal spline wavelet systems, such as the Battle-Lemarié wavelets. We also consider the natural extensions to Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. This builds upon, and is a generalization of, previous work of Seeger and Ullrich, where analogous results were established for the Haar wavelet system.
We extend the concept of exponential B-spline to complex orders. This extension contains as special cases the class of exponential splines and also the class of polynomial B-splines of complex order. We derive a time domain representation of a complex exponential B-spline depending on a single parameter and establish a connection to fractional differential operators defined on Lizorkin spaces. Moreover, we prove that complex exponential splines give rise to multiresolution analyses of $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ and define wavelet bases for $L^2(\mathbb{R})$.
Pseudo-splines of integer order $(m,\ell)$ were introduced by Daubechies, Han, Ron, and Shen as a family which allows interpolation between the classical B-splines and the Daubechies' scaling functions. The purpose of this paper is to generalize the pseudo-splines to fractional and complex orders $(z, \ell)$ with $α:=\re z > 1$. This allows increased flexibility in regard to smoothness: instead of working with a discrete family of functions from $C^m$, $m\in \N_0$, one uses a \emph{continuous} family of functions belonging to the Hölder spaces $C^{α-1}$. The presence of the imaginary part of $…
In 1996 Chui and Wang proved that the uncertainty constants of scaling and wavelet functions tend to infinity as smoothness of the wavelets grows for a broad class of wavelets such as Daubechies wavelets and spline wavelets. We construct a class of new families of wavelets (quasispline wavelets) whose uncertainty constants tend to those of the Meyer wavelet function used in construction.
Partitions of unity in ${\mathbf R}^d$ formed by (matrix) scales of a fixed function appear in many parts of harmonic analysis, e.g., wavelet analysis and the analysis of Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. We give a simple characterization of the functions and matrices yielding such a partition of unity. For invertible expanding matrices, the characterization leads to easy ways of constructing appropriate functions with attractive properties like high regularity and small support. We also discuss a class of integral transforms that map functions having the partition of unity property to functions with t…
Fractional spline wavelet systems are considered in the work. Molecular structure of elements of such systems admits estimates connecting norms of fractional integrals' images and pre--images in Besov spaces.
In this note we announce that under general hypotheses, wavelet-type expansions (of functions in $L^p,\ 1\leq p \leq \infty$, in one or more dimensions) converge pointwise almost everywhere, and identify the Lebesgue set of a function as a set of full measure on which they converge. It is shown that unlike the Fourier summation kernel, wavelet summation kernels $P_j$ are bounded by radial decreasing $L^1$ convolution kernels. As a corollary it follows that best $L^2$ spline approximations on uniform meshes converge pointwise almost everywhere. Moreover, summation of wavelet expansions is parti…
Grafakos and Sansing \cite{GS} have shown how to obtain directionally sensitive time-frequency decompositions in $L^2(\mr^n)$ based on Gabor systems in $\ltr;$ the key tool is the "ridge idea," which lifts a function of one variable to a function of several variables. We generalize their result by showing that similar results hold starting with general frames for $L^2(\mr),$ both in the setting of discrete frames and continuous frames. This allows to apply the theory for several other classes of frames, e.g., wavelet frames and shift-invariant systems. We will consider applications to the Meye…
Adapting the recently developed randomized dyadic structures, we introduce the notion of spline function in geometrically doubling quasi-metric spaces. Such functions have interpolation and reproducing properties as the linear splines in Euclidean spaces. They also have Hölder regularity. This is used to build an orthonormal basis of Hölder-continuous wavelets with exponential decay in any space of homogeneous type. As in the classical theory, wavelet bases provide a universal Calderón reproducing formula to study and develop function space theory and singular integrals. We discuss the example…
This paper is devoted to the question of constructing a higher order Faber spline basis for the sampling discretization of functions with higher regularity than Lipschitz. The basis constructed in this paper has similar properties as the piecewise linear classical Faber-Schauder basis except for the compactness of the support. Although the new basis functions are supported on the real line they are very well localized (exponentially decaying) and the main parts are concentrated on a segment. This construction gives a complete answer to Problem 3.13 in Triebel's monograph (see References [47]) …
Let $({\mathcal X},d,μ)$ be a metric measure space of homogeneous type in the sense of R. R. Coifman and G. Weiss and $H^1_{\rm at}({\mathcal X})$ be the atomic Hardy space. Via orthonormal bases of regular wavelets and spline functions recently constructed by P. Auscher and T. Hytönen, the authors prove that the product $f\times g$ of $f\in H^1_{\rm at}({\mathcal X})$ and $g\in\mathop\mathrm{BMO}({\mathcal X})$, viewed as a distribution, can be written into a sum of two bounded bilinear operators, respectively, from $H^1_{\rm at}({\mathcal X})\times\mathop\mathrm{BMO}({\mathcal X})$ into $L^1…
