In this note we announce that under general hypotheses, wavelet-type expansions (of functions in $L^p,\ 1\leq p \leq \infty$, in one or more dimensions) converge pointwise almost everywhere, and identify the Lebesgue set of a function as a set of full measure on which they converge. It is shown that unlike the Fourier summation kernel, wavelet summation kernels $P_j$ are bounded by radial decreasing $L^1$ convolution kernels. As a corollary it follows that best $L^2$ spline approximations on uniform meshes converge pointwise almost everywhere. Moreover, summation of wavelet expansions is partially insensitive to order of summation. \footnote We also give necessary and sufficient conditions for given rates of convergence of wavelet expansions in the sup norm. Such expansions have order of convergence $s$ if and only if the basic wavelet $ψ$ is in the homogeneous Sobolev space $H^{-s-d/2}_h$. We also present equivalent necessary and sufficient conditions on the scaling function. The above results hold in one and in multiple dimensions.
In this paper, we introduce a notion of weak pointwise Holder regularity, starting from the de nition of the pointwise anti-Holder irregularity. Using this concept, a weak spectrum of singularities can be de ned as for the usual pointwise Holder regularity. We build a class of wavelet series satisfying the multifractal formalism and thus show the optimality of the upper bound. We also show that the weak spectrum of singularities is disconnected from the casual one (denoted here strong spectrum of singularities) by exhibiting a multifractal function made of Davenport series whose weak spectrum …
In this work we generalize the spaces T^{p}_{u} introduced by Calderón and Zygmund using a pointwise version of conditions defining the generalized Besov spaces and give conditions binding the functions belonging to these spaces and the wavelet coefficients of such functions. Next, we propose a multifractal formalism based on the new spaces wich generalize the so-called wavelet leaders method and show that it is satisfied on a prevalent set.
We prove that we can identify three types of pointwise behaviour in the regularity of the (generalized) Rosenblatt process. This extends to a non Gaussian setting previous results known for the (fractional) Brownian motion. On this purpose, fine bounds on the increments of the Rosenblatt process are needed. Our analysis is essentially based on various wavelet methods.
Wavelet frames have become a useful tool in time freqency analysis and image processing. Many authors worked in the field of wavelet frames and obtained various necessary and sufficient conditions. Ron and Shen [17] gave a charactarization of wavelet frames. Benedetto and Treiber [3], Ron and Shen [17] presented different presentations to the wavelet frames. Any function $f \in L^2(R)$ can be expanded as an orthonormal wavelet series and pointwise convergence and uniform convergence of series have been discussed extensively by various authors [9, 17]. In this paper we investigate the pointwise…
We show the relevance of a multifractal-type analysis for pointwise convergence and divergence properties of wavelet series: Depending on the sequence space which the wavelet coefficients sequence belongs to, we obtain deterministic upper bounds for the Hausdorff dimensions of the sets of points where a given rate of divergence occurs, and we show that these bounds are generically optimal, according to several notions of genericity.
Using distribution theory we present the moment asymptotic expansion of continuous wavelet transform in different distributional spaces for large and small values of dilation parameter $a$. We also obtain asymptotic expansions for certain wavelet transform.
UsingWong's technique asymptotic expansion for the wavelet transform is derived and thereby asymptotic expansions for Morlet wavelet transform, Mexican Hat wavelet transform and Haar wavelet transform are obtained.
Asymptotic expansion of the wavelet transform for small values of the dilation parameter a is obtained using asymptotic expansion of the Mellin convolution technique ofWong. Asymptotic expansions of Morlet wavelet transform, Mexican hat wavelet transform and Haar wavelet transform are obtained as special cases.
We study approximation properties generated by highly regular scaling functions and orthonormal wavelets. These properties are conveniently described in the framework of Gelfand-Shilov spaces. Important examples of multiresolution analyses for which our results apply arise in particular from Dziubański-Hernández construction of band-limited wavelets with subexponential decay. Our results are twofold. Firstly, we obtain approximation properties of multiresolution expansions of Gelfand-Shilov functions and (ultra)distributions. Secondly, we establish convergence of wavelet series expansions in t…
We consider a class of convergence questions for infinite products that arise in wavelet theory when the wavelet filters are more singular than is traditionally built into the assumptions. We establish pointwise convergence properties for the absolute square of the scaling functions. Our proofs are based on probabilistic tools.
In several variables, we prove the pointwise convergence of multiresolution expansions to the distributional point values of tempered distributions and distributions of superexponential growth. The article extends and improves earlier results by G. G. Walter and B. K. Sohn and D. H. Pahk that were shown in one variable. We also provide characterizations of the quasiasymptotic behavior of distributions at finite points and discuss connections with $α$-density points of measures.
We introduce a scale of weighted Carleson norms, which depend on an integrability parameter p, where p=2 corresponds to the classical Carleson measure condition. Relations between the weighed BMO norm of a vector-valued function f:R->X, and the Carleson norm of the sequence of its wavelet coefficients, are established. These extend the results of Harboure-Salinas-Viviani, also in the scalar-valued case when p is not 2.
We study several Tauberian properties of regularizing transforms of tempered distributions with values in Banach spaces, that is, transforms of the form $M^{\mathbf{f}}_ϕ(x,y)=(\mathbf{f}\astϕ_{y})(x)$, where the kernel $ϕ$ is a test function and $ϕ_{y}(\cdot)=y^{-n}ϕ(\cdot/y)$. If the zeroth moment of $ϕ$ vanishes, it is a wavelet type transform; otherwise, we say it is a non-wavelet type transform. The first aim of this work is to show that the scaling (weak) asymptotic properties of distributions are \emph{completely} determined by boundary asymptotics of the regularizing transform plus nat…
We study the convergence and divergence of the wavelet expansion of a function in a Sobolev or a Besov space from a multifractal point of view. In particular, we give an upper bound for the Hausdorff and for the packing dimension of the set of points where the expansion converges (or diverges) at a given speed, and we show that, generically, these bounds are optimal.
In this paper, we develop a thorough analysis of the boundedness properties of the maximal operator for the Bochner-Riesz means related to the Fourier-Bessel expansions. For this operator, we study weighted and unweighted inequalities in the spaces L^p((0,1),x^{2ν+1}dx). Moreover, weak and restricted weak type inequalities are obtained for the critical values of p. As a consequence, we deduce the almost everywhere pointwise convergence of these means.
This is (raw) lecture notes of the course read on 6th European intensive course on Complex Analysis (Coimbra, Portugal) in 2000. Our purpose is to describe a general framework for generalizations of the complex analysis. As a consequence a classification scheme for different generalizations is obtained. The framework is based on wavelets (coherent states) in Banach spaces generated by ``admissible'' group representations. Reduced wavelet transform allows naturally describe in abstract term main objects of an analytical function theory: the Cauchy integral formula, the Hardy and Bergman spaces,…
An exact and general expression for the analytic wavelet transform of a real-valued signal is constructed, resolving the time-dependent effects of non-negligible amplitude and frequency modulation. The analytic signal is first locally represented as a modulated oscillation, demodulated by its own instantaneous frequency, and then Taylor-expanded at each point in time. The terms in this expansion, called the instantaneous modulation functions, are time-varying functions which quantify, at increasingly higher orders, the local departures of the signal from a uniform sinusoidal oscillation. Close…
We characterize the lack of compactness in the critical embedding of functions spaces $X\subset Y$ having similar scaling properties in the following terms : a sequence $(u_n)_{n\geq 0}$ bounded in $X$ has a subsequence that can be expressed as a finite sum of translations and dilations of functions $(ϕ_l)_{l>0}$ such that the remainder converges to zero in $Y$ as the number of functions in the sum and $n$ tend to $+\infty$. Such a decomposition was established by Gérard for the embedding of the homogeneous Sobolev space $X=\dot H^s$ into the $Y=L^p$ in $d$ dimensions with $0<s=d/2-d/p$, and t…
We establish a direct connection between two fundamental topics: one in probability theory and one in quantum field theory. The first topic is the problem of pointwise multiplication of random Schwartz distributions which has been the object of recent progress thanks to Hairer's theory of regularity structures and the theory of paracontrolled distributions introduced by Gubinelli, Imkeller and Perkowski. The second topic is Wilson's operator product expansion which is a general property of models of quantum field theory and a cornerstone of the bootstrap approach to conformal field theory. Our…
Asymptotic expansions of Green functions and spectral densities associated with partial differential operators are widely applied in quantum field theory and elsewhere. The mathematical properties of these expansions can be clarified and more precisely determined by means of tools from distribution theory and summability theory. (These are the same, insofar as recently the classic Cesaro-Riesz theory of summability of series and integrals has been given a distributional interpretation.) When applied to the spectral analysis of Green functions (which are then to be expanded as series in a param…
