We dynamically evolve for the first time dark matter admixed neutron stars with fermionic dark matter. These systems are mixtures of the ordinary nuclear matter of a neutron star and dark matter. To perform our dynamical evolutions, we derive the equations of motion, in conservation form, for spherically symmetric systems with an arbitrary number of perfect fluids. Using finite volume and high-resolution shock-capturing methods, we dynamically evolve the two-fluid case, with the first fluid modeling ordinary matter and the second fluid modeling dark matter. We use our dynamical solutions to study nonlinear stability, radial oscillation frequencies, and a dynamical formation process.
Neutron stars could contain a mixture of ordinary nuclear matter and dark matter, such that dark matter could influence observable properties of the star, such as its mass and radius. We study these dark matter admixed neutron stars for two choices of dark matter: a free Fermi gas and mirror dark matter. In addition to solving the multi-fluid Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations for static solutions and presenting mass-radius diagrams, we focus on two computations that are lacking in the literature. The first is a rigorous determination of stability over the whole of parameter space, which we …
We investigated compact stars consisting of cold quark matter and fermionic dark matter treated as two admixed fluids. We computed the stellar structures and fundamental radial oscillation frequencies for different masses of the dark fermion in the cases of weak and strong self-interacting dark matter. We found that the fundamental frequency can be dramatically modified and, in some cases, stable dark strange planets and dark strangelets with very low masses and radii can be formed.
We investigate whether the recently observed 2.6 $M_\odot$ compact object in the gravitational-wave event GW190814 can be a bosonic dark matter admixed compact star. By considering the three constraints in mass, radius and stability of such an object, we find that if the dark matter is made of QCD axions, their particle mass $m$ is constrained to a range that has already been ruled out by the independent constraint imposed by the stellar-mass black hole superradiance process. The 2.6 $M_\odot$ object can still be a neutron star admixed with at least 2.0 $M_\odot$ of dark matter made of axion-l…
The dark matter in neutron stars can exist from the lifetime of the progenitor or captured by this compact object. The properties of dark matter entered the neutron stars through each step could be different from each other. Here, we investigate the structure of neutron stars which are influenced by the dark matter in two processes. Applying a generalization of two-fluid formalism to three-fluid one and the equation of state from the rotational curves of galaxies, we explore the structure of double dark-matter admixed neutron stars. The behavior of the neutron and dark matter portions for thes…
We put constraints on the secondary component of GW190814 by analyzing the observational data of the event. The relativistic mean-field models are used to calculate the mass-radius profile and tidal deformability of the compact object, considering it as a massive neutron star with the presence of dark matter particles inside it. With the increase of dark matter percentage, the maximum mass, radius, and tidal deformability of the neutron star decreases. We observe that the predicted properties are well consistent with GW190814 observational data, suggesting the possibility of a dark matter admi…
Multi-messenger observations of compact binary mergers provide a new way to constrain the nature of dark matter that may accumulate in and around neutron stars. In this article, we extend the infrastructure of our numerical-relativity code BAM to enable the simulation of neutron stars that contain an additional mirror dark matter component. We perform single star tests to verify our code and the first binary neutron star simulations of this kind. We find that the presence of dark matter reduces the lifetime of the merger remnant and favors a prompt collapse to a black hole. Furthermore, we fin…
In this paper, we have considered a twofluid model assuming that the pulsars are made of ordinary matter admixed with dark matter.Contribution of dark matter comes from the fitting of the rotation curves of the SPARC sample of galaxies[95]. For this we have investigated the dark matter based on the Singular Isothermal Sphere (SIS) dark matter density profile in the galactic halo region. Considering this twofluid model, we have studied the physical features of the pulsars present in different galaxy in details. Here, we compute the probable radii, compactness (u) and surface red-shift (Zs) of t…
We present two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of the accretion-induced collapse (AIC) of rotating white dwarfs admixed with an extended component of dark matter (DM) comprising of sub-GeV degenerate fermionic DM particles. We find that the DM component would follow the collapse of the normal matter (NM) component to become a bound DM core. Thus, we demonstrate how a DM-admixed neutron star could form through DM-admixed AIC (DMAIC) for the first time, with the dynamics of DM taken into account. The gravitational-wave (GW) signature from the DMAIC shows distinctive features. In the diffusi…
We study the hydrostatic equilibrium configuration of an admixture of degenerate dark matter and normal nuclear matter by using a general relativistic two-fluid formalism. We consider non- self-annihilating dark matter particles of mass ~ 1 GeV. The mass-radius relations and moments of inertia of these dark-matter admixed neutron stars are investigated and the stability of these stars is demonstrated by performing a radial perturbation analysis. We find a new class of compact stars which consists of a small normal matter core with radius of a few km embedded in a ten-kilometer- sized dark matt…
The properties of dark matter admixed strange quark stars are investigated in the Starobinsky model of modified gravity. For quark matter we assume the MIT bag model, while self-interacting dark matter inside the star is modelled as a Bose-Einstein condensate with a polytropic equation of state. We numerically integrate the structure equations in the Einstein frame adopting the two-fluid formalism treating the curvature correction term non-perturbatively. Our findings show that strange quark stars (in agreement with current observational constraints) with the highest masses are equally affecte…
We study for the first time how a new class of stars could impact an ensemble of pulsars with known masses and spin-periods. These new compact objects are strange stars admixed with condensed dark matter. In this exploratory theoretical work, our goal is to determine how the basic parameters of pulsars are modified for such a new class of compact objects. In particular we consider three different scenarios that correspond to a dark matter mass fraction of $~5\%$, $~11\%$ and $~25\%$. Within each scenario with fixed parameters we predict theoretically other properties of the pulsars, such as th…
We compute the 20 lowest frequency radial oscillation modes of strange stars admixed with condensed dark matter. We assume a self-interacting bosonic dark matter, and we model dark matter inside the star as a Bose-Einstein condensate. In this case the equation of state is a polytropic one with index $1+1/n=2$ and a constant $K$ that is computed in terms of the mass of the dark matter particle and the scattering length. Assuming a mass and a scattering length compatible with current observational bounds for self-interacting dark matter, we have integrated numerically first the Tolman-Oppenheime…

In [Leung et al., Phys. Rev. D 84, 107301 (2011)], we presented our results on using a general relativistic two-fluid formalism to study the hydrostatic equilibrium configuration of an admixture of degenerate dark matter and normal nuclear matter. In this work, we present more analysis to complement our previous findings. We study the radial oscillation modes of these compact stars in detail. We find that these stars in general have two classes of oscillation modes. For a given total mass of the star, the first class of modes is insensitive to the dark-matter particle mass. They also reduce pr…
The concept of boson stars (BSs) was first introduced by Kaup and Ruffini-Bonazzola in the 1960s. Following this idea, we investigate an effect of self-interacting asymmetric bosonic dark matter (DM) according to Colpi et al. model for BSs (1986) on different observable properties of neutron stars (NSs). In this paper, the bosonic DM and baryonic matter (BM) are mixed together and interact only through gravitational force. The presence of DM as a core of a compact star or as an extended halo around it is examined by applying different boson masses and DM fractions for a fixed coupling constant…
We study the equilibrium structures of white dwarfs with dark matter cores formed by non-self-annihilating dark matter DM particles with mass ranging from 1 GeV to 100 GeV, which are assumed to form an ideal degenerate Fermi gas inside the stars. For DM particles of mass 10 GeV and 100 GeV, we find that stable stellar models exist only if the mass of the DM core inside the star is less than O(10^-3) Msun and O(10^-6) Msun, respectively. The global properties of these stars, and in particular the corresponding Chandrasekhar mass limits, are essentially the same as those of traditional white dwa…

In this paper, we studied the ``hyperon puzzle", a problem that nevertheless the large number of studies is still an open problem. The solution of this issue requires one or more mechanisms that could eventually provide the additional repulsion needed to make the EoS stiffer and, therefore, the value of $M_{\rm{max}, T}$ compatible with the current observational limits. In this paper we proposed that including dark matter (DM) admixed with ordinary matter in neutron stars (NSs), change the hydrostatic equilibrium and may explain the observed discrepancies, regardless to hyperon multi-body inte…

We inspect the possibility that neutron star interiors are a mixture of ordinary matter and mirror dark matter. This is a scenario that can be naturally envisaged according to well studied accretion mechanisms, including the Bondi-Hoyle one. We show that the inclusion of mirror dark matter in neutron star models lowers the maximum neutron star mass for a given equation of state, and that it decreases the tidal deformability of a given neutron star. These general features imply that, given an equation of state, one can constrain the maximum viable amount of mirror dark matter in neutron stars i…
We investigate the $f$-mode oscillation of the dark matter admixed hyperon star within the relativistic Cowling approximation. The macroscopic properties are calculated with the relativistic mean-field equation of states by assuming that the dark matter particles are inside the star. The $f$-mode oscillation frequencies (only for $l=2$) are calculated with four different neutron star equation of states. We also check the effects of hyperons/dark matter and hyperons with dark matter equation of states on the $f$-mode oscillations varying with different astrophysical quantities such as mass ($M$…
