A comprehensive investigation of nonradial oscillations in neutron star (NS) admixed with gravitationally bounded dark matter (DM) is carried out within the framework of full general relativity. The relativistic mean field (RMF) formalism is employed to illustrate the hadronic equation of state (EOS), while a physically motivated, gravitationally captured, non-uniform fermionic Higgs-portal DM component is incorporated to model DM-admixed NS. The DM distribution is characterized by two free parameters: $αM_χ$, an effective control parameter that combines the DM concentration and the DM candidate mass, and $β$, a steepness parameter controlling the DM density distribution. The quasi normal mode (QNM) characteristics such as fundamental ($f$) mode frequency and its corresponding gravitational-wave (GW) damping time ($τ$) is calculated for DM-admixed NS by solving the general relativistic perturbed equations involving axial as well as polar modes. The study demonstrates how the inclusion of DM distribution modifies the $f$-mode frequency and enhances the damping rate, reflecting a stronger coupling between matter and spacetime perturbations. Considering DM effects, the correlation analysis among DM model parameters, NS observables and QNM characteristics also carried out. Analytic fits for the $f-C-τ$ and $f-Λ-τ$ relations are constructed and calibrated for DM-admixed NS models. Building upon asteroseismic universal relations (URs), multimessenger constraint from the GW170817 event is employed by mapping the tidal deformability $Λ_{1.4}$ into the $(f_{1.4},τ_{1.4})$ space, thereby providing observational bounds on the oscillation properties of canonical DM-admixed NS model.

We study the stability against infinitesimal radial oscillations of neutron stars generated by a set of equations of state obtained from first-principle calculations in cold and dense QCD and constrained by observational data. We consider mild and large violations of the conformal bound, $c_{s} = 1/\sqrt{3}$, in stars that can possibly contain a quark matter core. Some neutron star families in the mass-radius diagram become dynamically unstable due to large oscillation amplitudes near the core.
The shear modulus of neutron star matter is one of the important properties for determining torsional oscillations in neutron stars. We take into account the effects of finite sizes of spherical nuclei on the shear modulus and examine the frequencies of crustal torsional oscillations. The shear modulus decreases owing to the finite-size effect, which in turn decreases the frequencies of torsional oscillations. In particular, the finite-size effect becomes more crucial for oscillations with a larger azimuthal quantum number and for neutron star models with a weaker density dependence of nuclear…

As the densities in the interior of neutron stars exceed those of terrestrial nuclear experiments, they provide a scope for studying the nature of dense matter under extreme conditions. The composition of the inner core of neutron stars is highly uncertain, and it is speculated that exotic forms of matter such as hyperons may appear there. Gravitational waves emitted by unstable oscillation modes in neutron stars contain information about their interior composition and therefore allow us to probe the interior directly. Recently, a systematic investigation of f-mode oscillations in neutron star…
In this undergraduate project, f-mode oscillations in neutron stars are used to constrain the equation of state of dense matter. For the first time, a systematic investigation of the role of nuclear saturation parameters on the mode oscillations is performed. It is found that the uncertainty in the determination of effective nucleon mass plays the most significant role in controlling the f-mode frequencies. Correlations of the frequencies with astrophysical observables relevant for asteroseismology are also investigated. Future detection of f-mode frequencies could then provide a unique way of…
Coherent forward neutron propagation in gas is discussed as a new approach to search for neutron-antineutron oscillations ($ n-\bar{n}$), which violate both $B$ and $B-L$ conservation. We show that one can increase the probability of neutron - antineutron transitions to essentially the free neutron oscillation rate in the presence of a nonzero external magnetic field by tuning the density of an appropriate mixture of gases so that the neutron optical potential of the gas cancels that from an external magnetic field.
It was pointed out in a recent paper that the observed cooling rate of old, cold neutron stars (NS) can provide an upper limit on the transition rate of neutron to mirror neutron ($n-n'$). This limit is so stringent that it would preclude any discovery of $n \to n'$ oscillation in the current round of terrestrial searches for the process. Motivated by this crucially important conclusion, we critically analyze this suggestion and note an interesting new effect present in nearly exact mirror models for $n \to n'$ oscillation, which significantly affect this bound. The new element is the $β$ deca…
We investigate radial oscillations of pure neutron stars and hybrid stars, employing equations of state of nuclear matter from Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory, and of quark matter from the Dyson-Schwinger quark model, performing a Gibbs construction for the mixed phase in hybrid stars. We calculate the eigenfrequencies and corresponding oscillation functions. Our results for the zero points of the first-order radial oscillation frequencies give the maximum mass of stable neutron stars, consistent with the common criterion $dM/dρ_c=0$. Possible observations of the radial oscillation frequencies c…
The values of the antineutron-nucleus scattering lengths, and in particular their imaginary parts, are needed to evaluate the feasibility of using neutron mirrors in laboratory experiments to search for neutron-antineutron oscillations. We analyze existing experimental and theoretical constraints on these values with emphasis on low $A$ nuclei and use the results to suggest materials for the neutron/antineutron guide and to evaluate the systematic uncertainties in estimating the neutron-antineutron oscillation time. As an example we discuss a scenario for a future neutron-antineutron oscillati…
The possibility that a neutron can be transformed to a hidden sector particle remains intriguingly open. Proposed theoretical models conjecture that the hidden sector can be represented by a mirror sector, and the neutron n can oscillate into its sterile mirror twin n', exactly or nearly degenerate in mass with n. Oscillations n - n' can take place in vacuum and in the environment of the regular matter and the magnetic field where only neutron will be subject of interaction with the environment. We describe the propagation of the oscillating n - n' system as a particle of the cold neutron beam…

Magnetic anomaly in UCN trapping: signal for neutron oscillations to parallel world?
Neutron-antineutron ($n-\bar n$) oscillations in the deuteron are considered. Specifically, the deuteron lifetime is calculated in terms of the free-space $n-\bar n$ oscillation time $τ_{n-\bar n}$ based on $NN$ and $\bar NN$ interactions derived within chiral effective field theory (EFT). This results in $(2.6\pm 0.1) \times 10^{22}\,τ^2_{n-\bar n}$ s, which is close to the value obtained by Dover and collaborators more than three decades ago, but disagrees with recent EFT calculations that were performed within the perturbative scheme proposed by Kaplan, Savage, and Wise. Possible reasons fo…
Fundamental symmetry tests of baryon number violation in low-energy experiments can probe beyond the Standard Model (BSM) explanations of the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. Neutron-antineutron oscillations are predicted to be a signature of many baryogenesis mechanisms involving low-scale baryon number violation. This work presents first-principles calculations of neutron-antineutron matrix elements needed to accurately connect measurements of the neutron-antineutron oscillation rate to constraints on $|ΔB|=2$ baryon number violation in BSM theories. Several important systematic …
