Extending a recent theory developed on compact Kähler manifolds by Guedj-Lu-Zeriahi and the author, we define and study pluripotential solutions to degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Ampère equations on compact Hermitian manifolds. Under natural assumptions on the Cauchy boundary data, we show that the pluripotential solution is semi-concave in time and continuous in space and that such a solution is unique. We also establish a partial regularity of such solutions under some extra assumptions of the densities and apply it to prove the existence and uniqueness of the weak Chern-Ricci flow on complex compact varieties with log terminal singularities.
We develop a parabolic pluripotential theory on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, defining and studying weak solutions to degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations. We provide a parabolic analogue of the celebrated Bedford-Taylor theory and apply it to the study of the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow on varieties with log terminal singularities.
Let (X,L) be a (semi-) polarized complex projective variety and T a real torus acting holomorphically on X with moment polytope P. Given a probability density g on P we introduce a new type of Monge-Ampere measure on X, defined for singular T-invariant metrics on the line bundle L, generalizing the ordinary Monge-Ampere of global pluripotential theory, which corresponds to the case when T is trivial (or g=1). In the opposite extreme case when T has maximal rank, i.e. (X,L,T) is a toric variety, the solution of the corresponding Monge-Ampere equation with right hand side μcorresponds to the con…
We develop the first steps of a parabolic pluripotential theory in bounded strongly pseudo-convex domains of Cn. We study certain degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations, modelled on the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow evolving on complex algebraic varieties with Kawamata log-terminal singularities. Under natural assumptions on the Cauchy-Dirichlet boundary data, we show that the envelope of pluripotential subsolutions is semi-concave in time and continuous in space, and provides the unique pluripotential solution with such regularity.
We study pluripotential complex Monge-Ampère flows in big cohomology classes on compact K{ä}hler manifolds. We use the Perron method, considering pluripotential subsolutions to the Cauchy problem. We prove that, under natural assumptions on the data, the upper envelope of all subsolutions is continuous in space and semi-concave in time, and provides a unique pluripotential solution with such regularity. We apply this theory to study pluripotential K{ä}hler-Ricci flows on compact K{ä}hler manifolds of general type as well as on stable varieties.
We introduce transverse Chern-Ricci flow for transversely Hermitian foliations, which is analogous to the Chern-Ricci flow. We show that when $\mathcal{F}$ is homologically orientable and the basic first Bott-Chern class is zero, starting at any transversely Hermitian metric the flow exists for all time and as $t\rightarrow \infty$ converges smoothly to a transversely Hermitian metric $ω_\infty$ with the transverse Chern-Ricci form $ρ^T(ω_\infty)=0$. We also determine the maximal existence time of the flow in the general case. These are foliated version of results of Gill and Tosatti-Weinkove,…
In this paper, we study how the notions of geometric formality according to Kotschick and other geometric formalities adapted to the Hermitian setting evolve under the action of the Chern-Ricci flow on class VII surfaces, including Hopf and Inoue surfaces, and on Kodaira surfaces.
We present some formulae related to the Chern-Ricci curvatures and scalar curvatures of special Hermitian metrics. We prove that a compact locally conformal Kähler manifold with constant nonpositive holomorphic sectional curvature is Kähler. We also give examples of complete non-Kähler metrics with pointwise negative constant but not globally constant holomorphic sectional curvature, and complete non-Kähler metric with zero holomorphic sectional curvature and nonvanishing curvature tensor.
In this note we study finite-time singularities in the Chern-Ricci flow. We show that finite-time singularities are characterized by the blow-up of the scalar curvature of the Chern connection.
We prove that a general complex Monge-Ampère flow on a Hermitian manifold can be run from an arbitrary initial condition with zero Lelong number at all points. Using this property, we confirm a conjecture of Tosatti-Weinkove: the Chern-Ricci flow performs a canonical surgical contraction. Finally, we study a generalization of the Chern-Ricci flow on compact Hermitian manifolds, namely the twisted Chern-Ricci flow.
In this note, we show that on Hopf manifold $\mathbb S^{2n-1}\times \mathbb S^1$, the non-negativity of the holomorphic bisectional curvature is not preserved along the Chern-Ricci flow.
In this note, we prove the existence of weak solutions of the Chern-Ricci flow through blow downs of exceptional curves, as well as backwards smooth convergence away from the exceptional curves on compact complex surfaces. The smoothing property for the Chern-Ricci flow is also obtained on compact Hermitian manifolds of dimension n under a mild assumption.
The Chern-Ricci flow is an evolution equation of Hermitian metrics by their Chern-Ricci form, first introduced by Gill. Building on our previous work, we investigate this flow on complex surfaces. We establish new estimates in the case of finite time non-collapsing, anologous to some known results for the Kahler-Ricci flow. This provides evidence that the Chern-Ricci flow carries out blow-downs of exceptional curves on non-minimal surfaces. We also describe explicit solutions to the Chern-Ricci flow for various non-Kahler surfaces. On Hopf surfaces and Inoue surfaces these solutions, appropria…
Assuming local uniform bounds on the metric for a solution of the Chern-Ricci flow, we establish local Calabi and curvature estimates using the maximum principle.
We show that on a smooth Hermitian minimal model of general type the Chern-Ricci flow converges to a closed positive current on M. Moreover, the flow converges smoothly to a Kahler-Einstein metric on compact sets away from the null locus of K_M. This generalizes work of Tsuji and Tian-Zhang to Hermitian manifolds, providing further evidence that the Chern-Ricci flow is a natural generalization of the Kahler-Ricci flow.
We construct the first and second Chern-Ricci functions on negatively curved minimal surfaces in ${\mathbb{R}}^{3}$ using Gauss curvature and angle functions, and establish that they become harmonic functions on the minimal surfaces. We prove that a minimal surface has constant first Chern-Ricci function if and only if it is Enneper's surface. We explicitly determine the moduli space of minimal surfaces having constant second Chern-Ricci function, which contains catenoids, helicoids, and their associate families.
This paper is concerned with Chern-Ricci flow evolution of left-invariant hermitian structures on Lie groups. We study the behavior of a solution, as t is approaching the first time singularity, by rescaling in order to prevent collapsing and obtain convergence in the pointed (or Cheeger-Gromov) sense to a Chern-Ricci soliton. We give some results on the Chern-Ricci form and the Lie group structure of the pointed limit in terms of the starting hermitian metric and, as an application, we obtain a complete picture for the class of solvable Lie groups having a codimension one normal abelian subgr…
Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold. We prove that if $X$ admits a smooth Hermitian metric $ω$ with quasi-positive second Chern-Ricci curvature $\mathrm{Ric}^{(2)}(ω)$, then $X$ is projective and rationally connected. In particular, $X$ is simply connected.
We investigate the Chern-Ricci flow, an evolution equation of Hermitian metrics, on Inoue surfaces. These are non-Kahler compact complex surfaces of type Class VII. We show that, after an initial conformal change, the flow always collapses the Inoue surface to a circle at infinite time, in the sense of Gromov-Hausdorff.
We consider the evolution of an almost Hermitian metric by the $(1,1)$ part of its Chern-Ricci form on almost complex manifolds. This is an evolution equation first studied by Chu and coincides with the Chern-Ricci flow if the complex structure is integrable and with the Kähler-Ricci flow if moreover the initial metric is Kähler. We find the maximal existence time for the flow in term of the initial data and also give some convergence results. As an example, we study this flow on the (locally) homogeneous manifolds in more detail.
We determine the greatest lower bounds on the transverse Ricci curvature of compact toric Sasaki manifolds with positive basic first Chern class and with the first Chern class of the contact bundle being trivial. This is based on Wang-Zhu's and Futaki-Ono-Wang's works, and is an analogue of C. Li's work on toric Fano manifolds.
We study the Chern-Ricci flow, an evolution equation of Hermitian metrics, on a family of Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT-) manifolds which are non-Kähler compact complex manifolds with negative Kodaira dimension. We prove that, after an initial conformal change, the flow converges, in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense, to a torus with a flat Riemannian metric determined by the OT-manifolds themselves.
In 1974, S.-S. Chern and J. Simons published a paper where they defined a new type of characteristic class - one that depends not just on the topology of a manifold but also on the geometry. The goal of this paper is to investigate what kinds of geometric information is contained in these classes by studying their behavior under the Ricci flow. In particular, it is shown that the Chern- Simons class corresponding to the first Pontryagin class is invariant under the Ricci flow on the warped products $S^2\times_f S^1$ and $S^1 \times_f S^2$ but that this class is not invariant under the Ricci fl…
We investigate the Chern-Ricci flow, an evolution equation of Hermitian metrics generalizing the Kahler-Ricci flow, on elliptic bundles over a Riemann surface of genus greater than one. We show that, starting at any Gauduchon metric, the flow collapses the elliptic fibers and the metrics converge to the pullback of a Kahler-Einstein metric from the base. Some of our estimates are new even for the Kahler-Ricci flow. A consequence of our result is that, on every minimal non-Kahler surface of Kodaira dimension one, the Chern-Ricci flow converges in the sense of Gromov-Hausdorff to an orbifold Kah…
The Hopf surfaces provide a family of minimal non-Kähler surfaces of class VII on which little is known about the Chern-Ricci flow. We use a construction of Gauduchon-Ornea for locally conformally Kähler metrics on primary Hopf surfaces of class 1 to study solutions of the Chern-Ricci flow. These solutions reach a volume collapsing singularity in finite time, and we show that the metric tensor satisfies a uniform upper bound, supporting the conjecture that the Gromov-Hausdorff limit is isometric to a round $S^1$. Uniform $C^{1+β}$ estimates are also established for the potential. Previous resu…
In this work, we obtain existence criteria for Chern-Ricci flows on noncompact manifolds. We generalize a result by Tossati-Wienkove on Chern-Ricci flows to noncompact manifolds and at the same time generalize a result for Kahler-Ricci flows by Lott-Zhang to Chern-Ricci flows. Using the existence results, we prove that any complete noncollapsed Kahler metric with nonnegative bisectional curvature on a noncompact complex manifold can be deformed to a complete Kahler metric with nonnegative and bounded bisectional curvature which will have maximal volume growth if the initial metric has maximal …
We consider the evolution of a Hermitian metric on a compact complex manifold by its Chern-Ricci form. This is an evolution equation first studied by M. Gill, and coincides with the Kahler-Ricci flow if the initial metric is Kahler. We find the maximal existence time for the flow in terms of the initial data. We investigate the behavior of the flow on complex surfaces when the initial metric is Gauduchon, on complex manifolds with negative first Chern class, and on some Hopf manifolds. Finally, we discuss a new estimate for the complex Monge-Ampere equation on Hermitian manifolds.
In this work, we obtain some existence results of Chern-Ricci Flows and the corresponding Potential Flows on complex manifolds with possibly incomplete initial data. We discuss the behaviour of the solution as $t\rightarrow 0$. These results can be viewed as generalization of an existence result by Giesen and Topping for surfaces of hyperbolic type of Ricci flow to higher dimensions in certain sense. On the other hand, we also discuss the long time behaviour of the solution and obtain some sufficient conditions for the existence of Kähler-Einstein metric on complete noncompact Hermitian manifo…

In this paper, we introduce the first Aeppli-Chern class for complex manifolds and show that the $(1,1)$- component of the curvature $2$-form of the Levi-Civita connection on the anti-canonical line bundle represents this class. We systematically investigate the relationship between a variety of Ricci curvatures on Hermitian manifolds and the background Riemannian manifolds. Moreover, we study non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds by using the first Aeppli-Chern class and the Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics. In particular, we construct explicit Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics on Hopf manifolds $S^{2n-…
We investigate the limiting behavior of the unnormalized Kahler-Ricci flow on a Kahler manifold with a polarized initial Kahler metric. We prove that the Kahler-Ricci flow becomes extinct in finite time if and only if the manifold has positive first Chern class and the initial Kahler class is proportional to the first Chern class of the manifold. This proves a conjecture of Tian for the smooth solutions of the Kahler-Ricci flow.

We partially confirm a conjecture of Donaldson relating the greatest Ricci lower bound $R(X)$ to the existence of conical Kahler-Einstein metrics on a Fano manifold $X$. In particular, if $D\in |-K_X|$ is a smooth simple divisor and the Mabuchi $K$-energy is bounded below, then there exists a unique conical Kahler-Einstein metric satisfying $Ric(g) = βg + (1-β) [D]$ for any $β\in (0,1)$. We also construct unique smooth conical toric Kahler-Einstein metrics with $β=R(X)$ and a unique effective Q-divisor $D\in [-K_X]$ for all toric Fano manifolds. Finally we prove a Miyaoka-Yau type inequality f…
This is a continuation of our previous paper [14]. In [14], we introduced the first Aeppli-Chern class on compact complex manifolds, and proved that the $(1,1)$ curvature form of the Levi-Civita connection represents the first Aeppli-Chern class which is a natural link between Riemannian geometry and complex geometry. In this paper, we study the geometry of compact complex manifolds with Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics and classify minimal complex surfaces with Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics. More precisely, we show that minimal complex surfaces admitting Levi-Civita Ricci-flat metrics are Kähl…
We show that if on a compact Kahler threefold there is a solution of the Kahler-Ricci flow which encounters a finite time collapsing singularity, then the manifold admits a Fano fibration. Furthermore, if there is finite time extinction then the manifold is Fano and the initial class is a positive multiple of the first Chern class.
We prove that the conical Kähler-Ricci flows introduced in \cite{CYW} exist for all time $t\in [0,+\infty)$. These immortal flows possess maximal regularity in the conical category. As an application, we show if the twisted first Chern class $C_{1,β}$ is negative or zero, the corresponding conical Kähler-Ricci flows converge to Kähler-Einstein metrics with conical singularities exponentially fast. To establish these results, one of our key steps is to prove a Liouville type theorem for Kähler-Ricci flat metrics (which are defined over $\mathbb{C}^{n}$) with conical singularities.
In this paper, we establish several sufficient and necessary conditions for the convergence of a Kähler-Ricci flow, on a Kähler manifold with positive first Chern class, to a Kähler-Einstein metric (or a shrinking Kähler-Ricci soliton).
