We consider the Gaussian curvature conjecture of a minimal graph $S$ over the unit disk. First of all we reduce the general conjecture to the estimating the Gaussian curvature of some Scherk's type minimal surfaces over a quadrilateral inscribed in the unit disk containing the origin inside. As an application we improve so far the obtained upper estimates of Gaussian curvature at the point above the center. Further we obtain an optimal estimate of the Gaussian curvature at the point $\mathbf{w}$ over the center of the disk, provided $\mathbf{w}$ satisfies certain "symmetric" conditions. The result extends a classical result of Finn and Osserman in 1964. In order to do so, we construct a certain family $S^t$, $t\in[t_\circ, π/2]$ of Scherk's type minimal graphs over the isosceles trapezoid inscribed in the unit disk. Then we compare the Gaussian curvature of the graph $S$ with that of $S^t$ at the point $\mathbf{w}$ over the center of the disk.
We establish a nice orthonormal frame field on a closed surface minimally immersed in a unit sphere $S^{n}$, under which the shape operators take very simple forms. Using this frame field, we obtain an interesting property $K+K^{N}=1$ for the Gauss curvature $K$ and the normal curvature $K^{N}$ if the Gauss curvature is positive. Moreover, using this property we obtain the pinching on the intrinsic curvature and normal curvature, the pinching on the normal curvature, respectively.
The goal of this article is to study minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{M}^2 \times \mathbb{R}$ having finite total curvature, where $\mathbb{M}^2$ is a Hadamard manifold. The main result gives a formula to compute the total curvature in terms of topological, geometrical and conformal data of the minimal surface. In particular, we prove the total curvature is an integral multiple of $2π$.
We show that the image of a nonconstant conformal harmonic map $\mathbb C\to \mathbb R^3$, not necessarily proper and possibly with branch points, intersects every properly embedded nonflat minimal surface of bounded curvature in $\mathbb R^3$. The same holds if $\mathbb C$ is replaced by any open conformal surface without nonconstant bounded subharmonic functions.
In the 3-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space we prove that the sign of the Gaussian curvature of any timelike minimal surface is determined by the degeneracy and the orientations of the two null curves that generate the surface. Moreover, we also investigate the behavior of the Gaussian curvature near singular points of a timelike minimal surface which admits some kind of singular points.
Geometry of conformal minimal two-spheres immersed in $G(2,6;\mathbb{R})$ is studied in this paper by harmonic maps. We construct a non-homogeneous constant curved minimal two-sphere in $G(2,6;\mathbb{R})$, and give a classification theorem of linearly full conformal minimal immersions of constant curvature from $S^2$ to $G(2,6;\mathbb{R})$, or equivalently, a complex hyperquadric $Q_{4}$, which illustrates minimal two-spheres of constant curvature in $Q_{4}$ are in general not congruent.
Scalar curvature constraints can be studied by means of splitting procedures. The success of this strategy depends on the control we can get on its splitting factors. We introduce canonical so-called minimal splitting factors. They have positive scalar curvature while other properties strongly resemble those of area minimizing hypersurfaces. This includes the presence of Poincare, Sobolev and isoperimetric inequalities and the fact that singular points admit tangent cones but now with positive scalar curvature.
We prove a phenomenon of concentration of total curvature for stable minimal surfaces in the product space H^2xR; where H^2 is the hyperbolic plane. Under some geometric conditions on the asymptotic boundary of an oriented stable minimal surface immersed in H^2xR, it has infinite total curvature. In particular, we infer that a minimal graph M in H^2xR whose asymptotic boundary is a graph over an arc of the asymptotic boundary of H^2, different from the asymptotic boundary of the boundary of M, has infinite total curvature. Consequently, if M is a stable minimal surface immersed into H^2xR with…
In this paper, we consider minimal graphs in the three-dimensional Riemannian manifold $M\times\mathbb{R}$. We mainly estimate the Gaussian curvature of such surfaces. We consider the minimal disks and minimal graphs bounded by two Jordan curves in parallel planes. The key to the proofs is the Weierstrass representation of those surfaces via $\wp-$harmonic mappings. We also prove some Schwarz lemma type results and some Heinz type results for harmonic mappings between geodesic disks in Riemannian surfaces.
We prove a lower bound for the first Steklov eigenvalue of embedded minimal hypersurfaces with free boundary in a compact $n$-dimensional manifold which has nonnegative Ricci curvature and strictly convex boundary. When $n=3$, this implies apriori area and curvature estimates for these minimal surfaces in terms of the geometry of the ambient manifold and the topology of the minimal surface. An important consequence of the estimate is a smooth compactness result for embedded minimal surfaces with free boundary when the topological type of these minimal surfaces is fixed.
In this article, we propose some conditions on the modified defect relations of the Gauss map of a complete minimal surface $M$ to show that $M$ has finite total curvature.
Minimal surfaces with planar curvature lines are classical geometric objects, having been studied since the late 19th century. In this paper, we revisit the subject from a different point of view. After calculating their metric functions using an analytical method, we recover the Weierstrass data, and give clean parametrizations for these surfaces. Then, using these parametrizations, we show that there exists a single continuous deformation between all minimal surfaces with planar curvature lines. In the process, we establish the existence of axial directions for these surfaces.
In this paper, we prove uniform curvature estimates for immersed stable free boundary minimal hypersurfaces which satisfy a uniform area bound. Our result is a natural generalization of the celebrated Schoen-Simon-Yau interior curvature estimates up to the free boundary. A direct corollary of our curvature estimates is a smooth compactness theorem which is an essential ingredient in the min-max theory of free boundary minimal hypersurfaces developed by the last two authors. We also prove a monotonicity formula for free boundary minimal submanifolds in Riemannian manifolds for any dimension and…
Positive scalar curvature and minimal hypersurfaces
The minimal surfaces meeting in triples with equal angles along a common boundary naturally arise from soap films and other physical phenomenon. They are also the natural extension of the usual minimal surface. In this paper, we consider the multiple junction surface and show the Bernstein Theorem still holds for stable multiple junction surface in some special case. The key part is to derive the $L^p$ estimate of the curvature for multiple junction surface.
We extend to higher codimension earlier characterization of the equatorial disk and the critical catenoid by a pinching condition on the length of their second fundamental form among free boundary minimal surfaces in the three dimensional Euclidean ball due to L. Ambrozio and I. Nunes.

In this paper we exhibit deformations of the hemisphere $S^{n+1}_+$, $n\geq 2$, for which the ambient Ricci curvature lower bound $\text{Ric}\geq n $ and the minimality of the boundary are preserved, but the first Laplace eigenvalue of the boundary decreases. The existence of these metrics suggests that any resolution of Yau's conjecture on the first eigenvalue of minimal hypersurfaces in spheres would likely need to consider more geometric data than a Ricci curvature lower bound.
