The notion of right semi-equivalence in a right $(n+2)$-angulated category is defined in this article. Let $\mathscr C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathscr X$ is a strongly covariantly finite subcategory of $\mathscr C$. We prove that the standard right $(n+2)$-angulated category $\mathscr C/\mathscr X$ is right semi-equivalence under a natural assumption. As an application, we show that a right $(n+2)$-angulated category has an $n$-exangulated structure if and only if the suspension functor is right semi-equivalence. Besides, we also prove that an $n$-exangulated category $\mathscr C$ has the structure of a right $(n+2)$-angulated category with right semi-equivalence if and only if for any object $X\in\mathscr C$, the morphism $X\to 0$ is a trivial inflation.
Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $(n+2)$-angulated in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann and $n$-exact categories in the sense of Jasso. In this article, we show that an $n$-exangulated category has the structure of an $(n+2)$-angulated category if and only if for any object $X$ in the category, the morphism $0\to X$ is a trivial deflation and the morphism $X\to 0$ is a trivial inflation.
Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories as higher dimensional analogues of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu. The class of $n$-exangulated categories contains $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories as examples. In this article, we introduce a notion of Frobenius $n$-exangulated categories which are a generalization of Frobenius $n$-exact categories. We show that the stable category of a Frobenius $n$-exangulated category is an $(n+2)$-angulated category. As an application, this result generalizes the work by Jasso. We provide a c…
It was shown recently that an $n$-extension closed subcategory $\mathscr A$ of a Krull-Schmidt $(n+2)$-angulated category has a natural structure of an $n$-exangulated category. In this article, we prove that its idempotent completion $\widetilde{\mathscr A}$ admits an $n$-exangulated structure. It is not only a generalization of the main result of Lin, but also gives an $n$-exangulated category which is neither $n$-exact nor $(n+2)$-angulated in general.
Let $\mathscr C$ be a Krull-Schmidt $(n+2)$-angulated category and $\mathscr A$ be an $n$-extension closed subcategory of $\mathscr C$. Then $\mathscr A$ has the structure of an $n$-exangulated category in the sense of Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka. This construction gives $n$-exangulated categories which are not $n$-exact categories in the sense of Jasso nor $(n+2)$-angulated categories in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann in general. As an application, our result can lead to a recent main result of Klapproth.
$n$-exangulated categories were introduced by Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka which are a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories. This paper consists of two results on $n$-exangulated categories: (1) we give an equivalent characterization of the axiom (EA2); (2) we provide a new way to construct a closed subfunctor of an $n$-exangulated category.
Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories in the sense of Jasso and $(n+2)$-angulated in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann. Let $\mathscr C$ be an $n$-exangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives, and $\mathscr X$ a cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr C$. In this article, we show that the quotient category $\mathscr C/\mathscr X$ is an $n$-abelian category. This exten…
Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories. Let $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathcal X$ a full subcategory of $\mathcal C$. If $\mathcal X$ satisfies $\mathcal X\subseteq\mathcal P\cap\mathcal I$, then we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the ideal quotient $\mathcal C/\mathcal X$ to be an $n$-exangulated category, where $\mathcal P…
For each positive integer $n$ we introduce the notion of $n$-exangulated categories as higher dimensional analogues of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu. We characterize which $n$-exangulated categories are $n$-exact in the sense of Jasso and which are $(n+2)$-angulated in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann. For extriangulated categories with enough projectives and injectives we introduce the notion of $n$-cluster tilting subcategories and show that under certain conditions such $n$-cluster tilting subcategories are $n$-exangulated.
Nakaoka-Ogawa-Sakai considered the localization of an extriangulated category. This construction unified the Serre quotient of abelian categories and the Verdier quotient of triangulated categories. Recently, Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka defined $n$-exangulated categories as a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories. Let $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathcal{F}$ be a multiplicative system satisfying mild assumption. In this article, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the localization of $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category. This way gives a ne…
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be an $n$-exangulated category. In this note, we show that if $\mathscr{C}$ is locally finite, then $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. This unifies and extends results of Xiao-Zhu, Zhu-Zhuang, Zhou and Xie-Lu-Wang for triangulated, extriangulated, $(n+2)$-angulated and $n$-abelian categories, respectively.
In this article, we introduce the notion of pre-$(n+2)$-angulated categories as higher dimensional analogues of pre-triangulated categories defined by Beligiannis-Reiten. We first show that the idempotent completion of a pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category admits a unique structure of pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category. Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathscr{X}$ be a strongly functorially finite subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$. We then show that the quotient category $\mathscr{C}/\mathscr{X}$ is a pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category. These results allow to const…
We define the Grothendieck group of an $n$-exangulated category. For $n$ odd, we show that this group shares many properties with the Grothendieck group of an exact or a triangulated category. In particular, we classify dense complete subcategories of an $n$-exangulated category with an $n$-(co)generator in terms of subgroups of the Grothendieck group. This unifies and extends results of Thomason, Bergh--Thaule, Matsui and Zhu--Zhuang for triangulated, $(n+2)$-angulated, exact and extriangulated categories, respectively. We also introduce the notion of an $n$-exangulated subcategory and prove …
We show that the idempotent completion of an n-angulated category admits a unique n-angulated structure such that the inclusion is an n-angulated functor, which satisfies a universal property.
We define mutation pair in an n-angulated category and prove that given such a mutation pair, the corresponding quotient category carries a natural n-angulated structure. This result generalizes a theorem of Iyama-Yoshino in classical triangulated category. As an application, we obtain that the quotient category of a Frobenius n-angulated category is also an n-angulated category.
We define the notion of right $n$-angulated category, which generalizes the notion of right triangulated category. Let $\mathcal{C}$ be an additive category or $n$-angulated category and $\mathcal{X}$ a covariantly finite subcategory, we show that under certain conditions the quotient $\mathcal{C}/\mathcal{X}$ is a right $n$-angulated category. This result generalizes some previous work.
It has been proved by Bergh and Thaule that the higher mapping cone axiom is equivalent to the higher octahedral axiom for n-angulated categories. In this note, we use homotopy cartesian diagrams to give several new equivalent statements of the higher mapping cone axiom, which are applied to explain the higher octahedral axiom.
Let $\cal C$ be a $(d+2)$-angulated category. In this note, we show that if $\cal C$ is a locally finite, then $\cal C$ has Auslander-Reiten $(d+2)$-angles. This extends a result of Xiao-Zhu for triangulated categories.
Let $n$ be an integer greater or equal than $3$. We give a simultaneous generalization of $(n-2)$-exact categories and $n$-angulated categories, and we call it one-sided $n$-suspended categories. One-sided $n$-angulated categories are also examples of one-sided $n$-suspended categories. We provide a general framework for passing from one-sided $n$-suspended categories to one-sided $n$-angulated categories. Besides, we give a method to construct $n$-angulated quotient categories from Frobenius $n$-prile categories. These results generalize their works by Jasso for $n$-exact categories, Lin for …
Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an Ext-finite, Krull-Schmidt and $k$-linear $n$-exangulated category with $k$ a commutative artinian ring. In this note, we prove that $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality if and only if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. Moreover, we also give an equivalent condition for the existence of Serre duality (which is a special type of Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality). Finally, assume further that $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality. We exploit a bijection triangle, which involves the restricted Auslander bijection …
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a $(d+2)$-angulated category with $d$-suspension functor $Σ^d$. Our main results show that every Serre functor on $\mathscr{C}$ is a $(d+2)$-angulated functor. We also show that $\mathscr{C}$ has a Serre functor $\mathbb{S}$ if and only if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander--Reiten $(d+2)$-angles. Moreover, $τ_d=\mathbb{S}Σ^{-d}$ where $τ_d$ is $d$-Auslander-Reiten translation. These results generalize work by Bondal-Kapranov and Reiten-Van den Bergh. As an application, we prove that for a strongly functorially finite subcategory $\mathscr{X}$ of $\mathscr{C}$, the quotient categ…
Let $\mathscr{F}$ be an $(n+2)$-angulated Krull-Schmidt category and $\mathscr{A} \subset \mathscr{F}$ an $n$-extension closed, additive and full subcategory with $\operatorname{Hom}_{\mathscr{F}}(Σ_n \mathscr{A}, \mathscr{A}) = 0$. Then $\mathscr{A}$ naturally carries the structure of an $n$-exact category in the sense of Jasso, arising from short $(n+2)$-angles in $\mathscr{F}$ with objects in $\mathscr{A}$ and there is a binatural and bilinear isomorphism $\operatorname{YExt}^{n}_{(\mathscr{A},\mathscr{E}_{\mathscr{A}})}(A_{n+1},A_0) \cong \operatorname{Hom}_{\mathscr{F}}(A_{n+1}, Σ_n A_{0}…
Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a $k$-linear category with split idempotents, and $Σ:\mathcal{C}\rightarrow\mathcal{C}$ an automorphism. We show that there is an $n$-angulated structure on $(\mathcal{C},Σ)$ under certain conditions. As an application, we obtain a class of examples of $n$-angulated categories from self-injective algebras.
Let $\mathcal{C}$ be an additive category equipped with an automorphism $Σ$. We show how to obtain $n$-angulations of $(\mathcal{C},Σ)$ using some particular periodic injective resolutions. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on $(\mathcal{C},Σ)$ admitting an $n$-angulation. Then we apply these characterizations to explain the standard construction of $n$-angulated categories and the $n$-angulated categories arising from some local rings. Moreover, we obtain a class of new examples of $n$-angulated categories from quasi-periodic selfinjective algebras.
In this paper, we consider $n$-perforated Yoneda algebras for $n$-angulated categories, and show that, under some conditions, $n$-angles induce derived equivalences between the quotient algebras of $n$-perforated Yoneda algebras. This result generalizes some results of Hu, König and Xi. And it also establishes a connection between higher cluster theory and derived equivalences. Namely, in a cluster tilting subcategory of a triangulated category, an Auslander-Reiten $n$-angle implies a derived equivalence between two quotient algebras. This result can be compared with the fact that an Auslander…
We define $n$-angulated categories by modifying the axioms of triangulated categories in a natural way. We show that Heller's parametrization of pre-triangulations extends to pre-$n$-angulations. We obtain a large class of examples of $n$-angulated categories by considering $(n-2)$-cluster tilting subcategories of triangulated categories which are stable under the $(n-2)$nd power of the suspension functor. As an application, we show how $n$-angulated Calabi-Yau categories yield triangulated Calabi-Yau categories of higher Calabi-Yau dimension. Finally, we sketch a link to algebraic geometry an…
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a $2$-Calabi-Yau triangulated category with two cluster tilting subcategories $\mathscr{T}$ and $\mathscr{U}$. Results by Demonet-Iyama-Jasso and Jørgensen-Yakimov known as tropical duality says that the index with respect to $\mathscr{T}$ provides an isomorphism between the split Grothendieck groups of $\mathscr{U}$ and $\mathscr{T}$. We also have the notion of $c$-vectors, which using tropical duality have been proven to have sign coherence, and to be recoverable as dimension vectors of modules in a module category. The notion of triangulated categories extends to the no…
Let ${\mathscr T}$ be a triangulated category. If $T$ is a cluster tilting object and $I = [ \operatorname{add} T ]$ is the ideal of morphisms factoring through an object of $\operatorname{add} T$, then the quotient category ${\mathscr T} / I$ is abelian. This is an important result of cluster theory, due to Keller-Reiten and König-Zhu. More general conditions which imply that ${\mathscr T} / I$ is abelian were determined by Grimeland and the first author. Now let ${\mathscr T}$ be a suitable $( d+2 )$-angulated category for an integer $d \geqslant 1$. If $T$ is a cluster tilting object in the…
Higher homological algebra was introduced by Iyama. It is also known as $n$-homological algebra where $n \geq 2$ is a fixed integer, and it deals with $n$-cluster tilting subcategories of abelian categories. All short exact sequences in such a subcategory are split, but it has nice exact sequences with $n+2$ objects. This was recently formalised by Jasso in the theory of $n$-abelian categories. There is also a derived version of $n$-homological algebra, formalised by Geiss, Keller, and Oppermann in the theory of $( n+2 )$-angulated categories (the reason for the shift from $n$ to $n+2$ is that…
Let $Φ$ be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ and assume gldim$\,Φ\leq d$, for some fixed positive integer $d$. For $d=1$, Brüning proved that there is a bijection between the wide subcategories of the abelian category mod$\,Φ$ and those of the triangulated category $\mathcal{D}^b(\text{mod}Φ)$. Moreover, for a suitable triangulated category $\mathcal{M}$, Jørgensen gave a description of Auslander-Reiten triangles in the extension closed subcategories of $\mathcal{M}$. In this paper, we generalise these results for $d$-abelian and $(d+2)$-angulated categories, …
Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an ${\rm Ext}$-finite, Krull-Schmidt and $k$-linear $n$-exangulated category with $k$ a commutative artinian ring. In this note, we define two additive subcategories $\mathscr{C}_r$ and $\mathscr{C}_l$ of $\mathscr{C}$ in terms of the representable functors from the stable category of $\mathscr{C}$ to the category of finitely generated $k$-modules. Moreover, we show that there exists an equivalence between the stable categories of these two full subcategories. Finally, we give some equivalent characterizations on the existence of Auslander-Reiten …
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category, and let $\mathscr{T}$ be a cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$. An important result from Dehy and Keller tells us that a rigid object $c \in \mathscr{C}$ is uniquely defined by its index with respect to $\mathscr{T}$. The notion of triangulated categories extends to the notion of $(d+2)$-angulated categories. Thanks to a paper by Oppermann and Thomas, we now have a definition for cluster tilting subcategories in higher dimensions. This paper proves that under a technical assumption, an indecomposable object in a $(d+2)$-angula…
Let $\C$ be an $(n+2)$-angulated category with shift functor $Σ$ and $\X$ be a cluster-tilting subcategory of $\C$. Then we show that the quotient category $\C/\X$ is an $n$-abelian category. If $\C$ has a Serre functor, then $\C/\X$ is equivalent to an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of an abelian category $\textrm{mod}(Σ^{-1}\X)$. Moreover, we also prove that $\textrm{mod}(Σ^{-1}\X)$ is Gorenstein of Gorenstein dimension at most $n$. As an application, we generalize recent results of Jacobsen-Jørgensen and Koenig-Zhu.
Approximation sequences and derived equivalences occur frequently in the research of mutation of tilting objects in representation theory, algebraic geometry and noncommutative geometry. In this paper, we introduce symmetric approximation sequences in additive categories and weakly $n$-angulated categories which include (higher) Auslander-Reiten sequences (triangles) and mutation sequences in algebra and geometry, and show that such sequences always give rise to derived equivalences between the quotient rings of endomorphism rings of objects in the sequences modulo some ghost and coghost ideals…
