It was shown recently that an $n$-extension closed subcategory $\mathscr A$ of a Krull-Schmidt $(n+2)$-angulated category has a natural structure of an $n$-exangulated category. In this article, we prove that its idempotent completion $\widetilde{\mathscr A}$ admits an $n$-exangulated structure. It is not only a generalization of the main result of Lin, but also gives an $n$-exangulated category which is neither $n$-exact nor $(n+2)$-angulated in general.

Idempotent completion of extriangulated categories

Extriangulated categories were introduced by Nakaoka and Palu as a simultaneous generalization of exact categories and triangulated categories. In this paper, we show that the idempotent completion of an extriangulated category admits a natural extriangulated structure. As applications, we prove that cotorsion pairs in an extriangulated category induce cotorsion pairs in its idempotent completion under certain condition, and the idempotent completion of a recollement of extriangulated categories is still a recollement.

Pre-$(n+2)$-angulated categories

In this article, we introduce the notion of pre-$(n+2)$-angulated categories as higher dimensional analogues of pre-triangulated categories defined by Beligiannis-Reiten. We first show that the idempotent completion of a pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category admits a unique structure of pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category. In this note we prove that additive categories that occur as hearts of weight structures are precisely the weakly idempotent completecategories, that is, the categories where all split monomorphisms give direct sum decompositions. Galois coverings, Morita equivalence and smash extensions of categories over a field

We consider categories over a field $k$ in order to prove that smash extensions and Galois coverings with respect to a finite group coincide up to Morita equivalence of $k$-categories. For this purpose we describe processes providing Morita equivalences called contraction and expansion. We prove that composition of these processes provides any Morita equivalence, a result which is related with the karoubianisation (or idempotent completion) and additivisation of a $k$-category.

A construction of dualizing categories by tensor products of categories

It is shown that the idempotent completion of the additive hull of the tensor product of the residue category of the category of paths of a locally finite quiver modulo an admissible ideal and a dualizing category is dualizing. Furthermore, the category of finitely presented functors over such tensor product category is dualizing and has almost split sequences. As applications, the categories of all kinds of complexes are proved to have almost split sequences.

Non-commutative localizations of additive categories and weight structures; applications to birational motives

In this paper we demonstrate that 'non-commutative localizations' of arbitrary additive categories (generalizing those defined by Cohn for rings) are closely (and naturally) related with weight structures. Localizing an arbitrary triangulated $C$ by a set $S$ of morphisms in the heart of a weight structure $w$ for it one obtains a triangulated category endowed with a weight structure $w'$.
