Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $(n+2)$-angulated in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann and $n$-exact categories in the sense of Jasso. In this article, we show that an $n$-exangulated category has the structure of an $(n+2)$-angulated category if and only if for any object $X$ in the category, the morphism $0\to X$ is a trivial deflation and the morphism $X\to 0$ is a trivial inflation.
The notion of right semi-equivalence in a right $(n+2)$-angulated category is defined in this article. Let $\mathscr C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathscr X$ is a strongly covariantly finite subcategory of $\mathscr C$. We prove that the standard right $(n+2)$-angulated category $\mathscr C/\mathscr X$ is right semi-equivalence under a natural assumption. As an application, we show that a right $(n+2)$-angulated category has an $n$-exangulated structure if and only if the suspension functor is right semi-equivalence. Besides, we also prove that an $n$-exangulated category $\mathscr C…
Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories as higher dimensional analogues of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu. The class of $n$-exangulated categories contains $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories as examples. In this article, we introduce a notion of Frobenius $n$-exangulated categories which are a generalization of Frobenius $n$-exact categories. We show that the stable category of a Frobenius $n$-exangulated category is an $(n+2)$-angulated category. As an application, this result generalizes the work by Jasso. We provide a c…
It was shown recently that an $n$-extension closed subcategory $\mathscr A$ of a Krull-Schmidt $(n+2)$-angulated category has a natural structure of an $n$-exangulated category. In this article, we prove that its idempotent completion $\widetilde{\mathscr A}$ admits an $n$-exangulated structure. It is not only a generalization of the main result of Lin, but also gives an $n$-exangulated category which is neither $n$-exact nor $(n+2)$-angulated in general.
Let $\mathscr C$ be a Krull-Schmidt $(n+2)$-angulated category and $\mathscr A$ be an $n$-extension closed subcategory of $\mathscr C$. Then $\mathscr A$ has the structure of an $n$-exangulated category in the sense of Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka. This construction gives $n$-exangulated categories which are not $n$-exact categories in the sense of Jasso nor $(n+2)$-angulated categories in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann in general. As an application, our result can lead to a recent main result of Klapproth.
$n$-exangulated categories were introduced by Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka which are a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories. This paper consists of two results on $n$-exangulated categories: (1) we give an equivalent characterization of the axiom (EA2); (2) we provide a new way to construct a closed subfunctor of an $n$-exangulated category.
Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories in the sense of Jasso and $(n+2)$-angulated in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann. Let $\mathscr C$ be an $n$-exangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives, and $\mathscr X$ a cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr C$. In this article, we show that the quotient category $\mathscr C/\mathscr X$ is an $n$-abelian category. This exten…
Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories. Let $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathcal X$ a full subcategory of $\mathcal C$. If $\mathcal X$ satisfies $\mathcal X\subseteq\mathcal P\cap\mathcal I$, then we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the ideal quotient $\mathcal C/\mathcal X$ to be an $n$-exangulated category, where $\mathcal P…
For each positive integer $n$ we introduce the notion of $n$-exangulated categories as higher dimensional analogues of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu. We characterize which $n$-exangulated categories are $n$-exact in the sense of Jasso and which are $(n+2)$-angulated in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann. For extriangulated categories with enough projectives and injectives we introduce the notion of $n$-cluster tilting subcategories and show that under certain conditions such $n$-cluster tilting subcategories are $n$-exangulated.
Nakaoka-Ogawa-Sakai considered the localization of an extriangulated category. This construction unified the Serre quotient of abelian categories and the Verdier quotient of triangulated categories. Recently, Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka defined $n$-exangulated categories as a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories. Let $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathcal{F}$ be a multiplicative system satisfying mild assumption. In this article, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the localization of $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category. This way gives a ne…
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be an $n$-exangulated category. In this note, we show that if $\mathscr{C}$ is locally finite, then $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. This unifies and extends results of Xiao-Zhu, Zhu-Zhuang, Zhou and Xie-Lu-Wang for triangulated, extriangulated, $(n+2)$-angulated and $n$-abelian categories, respectively.
In this article, we introduce the notion of pre-$(n+2)$-angulated categories as higher dimensional analogues of pre-triangulated categories defined by Beligiannis-Reiten. We first show that the idempotent completion of a pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category admits a unique structure of pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category. Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathscr{X}$ be a strongly functorially finite subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$. We then show that the quotient category $\mathscr{C}/\mathscr{X}$ is a pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category. These results allow to const…
We define the Grothendieck group of an $n$-exangulated category. For $n$ odd, we show that this group shares many properties with the Grothendieck group of an exact or a triangulated category. In particular, we classify dense complete subcategories of an $n$-exangulated category with an $n$-(co)generator in terms of subgroups of the Grothendieck group. This unifies and extends results of Thomason, Bergh--Thaule, Matsui and Zhu--Zhuang for triangulated, $(n+2)$-angulated, exact and extriangulated categories, respectively. We also introduce the notion of an $n$-exangulated subcategory and prove …
We show that the idempotent completion of an n-angulated category admits a unique n-angulated structure such that the inclusion is an n-angulated functor, which satisfies a universal property.
We define mutation pair in an n-angulated category and prove that given such a mutation pair, the corresponding quotient category carries a natural n-angulated structure. This result generalizes a theorem of Iyama-Yoshino in classical triangulated category. As an application, we obtain that the quotient category of a Frobenius n-angulated category is also an n-angulated category.
We define the notion of right $n$-angulated category, which generalizes the notion of right triangulated category. Let $\mathcal{C}$ be an additive category or $n$-angulated category and $\mathcal{X}$ a covariantly finite subcategory, we show that under certain conditions the quotient $\mathcal{C}/\mathcal{X}$ is a right $n$-angulated category. This result generalizes some previous work.
It has been proved by Bergh and Thaule that the higher mapping cone axiom is equivalent to the higher octahedral axiom for n-angulated categories. In this note, we use homotopy cartesian diagrams to give several new equivalent statements of the higher mapping cone axiom, which are applied to explain the higher octahedral axiom.
Let $\cal C$ be a $(d+2)$-angulated category. In this note, we show that if $\cal C$ is a locally finite, then $\cal C$ has Auslander-Reiten $(d+2)$-angles. This extends a result of Xiao-Zhu for triangulated categories.
Let $n$ be an integer greater or equal than $3$. We give a simultaneous generalization of $(n-2)$-exact categories and $n$-angulated categories, and we call it one-sided $n$-suspended categories. One-sided $n$-angulated categories are also examples of one-sided $n$-suspended categories. We provide a general framework for passing from one-sided $n$-suspended categories to one-sided $n$-angulated categories. Besides, we give a method to construct $n$-angulated quotient categories from Frobenius $n$-prile categories. These results generalize their works by Jasso for $n$-exact categories, Lin for …
Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an Ext-finite, Krull-Schmidt and $k$-linear $n$-exangulated category with $k$ a commutative artinian ring. In this note, we prove that $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality if and only if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. Moreover, we also give an equivalent condition for the existence of Serre duality (which is a special type of Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality). Finally, assume further that $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality. We exploit a bijection triangle, which involves the restricted Auslander bijection …
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a $(d+2)$-angulated category with $d$-suspension functor $Σ^d$. Our main results show that every Serre functor on $\mathscr{C}$ is a $(d+2)$-angulated functor. We also show that $\mathscr{C}$ has a Serre functor $\mathbb{S}$ if and only if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander--Reiten $(d+2)$-angles. Moreover, $τ_d=\mathbb{S}Σ^{-d}$ where $τ_d$ is $d$-Auslander-Reiten translation. These results generalize work by Bondal-Kapranov and Reiten-Van den Bergh. As an application, we prove that for a strongly functorially finite subcategory $\mathscr{X}$ of $\mathscr{C}$, the quotient categ…
Let $\mathscr{F}$ be an $(n+2)$-angulated Krull-Schmidt category and $\mathscr{A} \subset \mathscr{F}$ an $n$-extension closed, additive and full subcategory with $\operatorname{Hom}_{\mathscr{F}}(Σ_n \mathscr{A}, \mathscr{A}) = 0$. Then $\mathscr{A}$ naturally carries the structure of an $n$-exact category in the sense of Jasso, arising from short $(n+2)$-angles in $\mathscr{F}$ with objects in $\mathscr{A}$ and there is a binatural and bilinear isomorphism $\operatorname{YExt}^{n}_{(\mathscr{A},\mathscr{E}_{\mathscr{A}})}(A_{n+1},A_0) \cong \operatorname{Hom}_{\mathscr{F}}(A_{n+1}, Σ_n A_{0}…
In this paper, we study the ideal approximation theory associated to almost $n$-exact structures in the $n$-exangulated category. The notions of $n$-ideal cotorsion pairs and $n$-$\mathbb{F}$-phantom morphisms are introduced and studied. In particular, let $\mathscr{C}$ be an extriangulated category which satisfies the condition (WIC) and $\mathcal{T}$ be a nicely embedded $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$, we prove Salce's Lemma in $\mathcal{T}$.
The morphism axiom for n-angulated categories states that a morphism between the bases of two n-angles can be extended to a morphism of n-angles. We show that this axiom is redundant. For triangulated categories, this was proved by J.P. May.
We discuss the axioms for an n-angulated category, recently introduced by Geiss, Keller and Oppermann. In particular, we introduce a higher octahedral axiom, and show that it is equivalent to the mapping cone axiom for an n-angulated category. For a triangulated category, the mapping cone axiom, our octahedral axiom and the classical octahedral axiom are all equivalent.
Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an ${\rm Ext}$-finite, Krull-Schmidt and $k$-linear $n$-exangulated category with $k$ a commutative artinian ring. In this note, we define two additive subcategories $\mathscr{C}_r$ and $\mathscr{C}_l$ of $\mathscr{C}$ in terms of the representable functors from the stable category of $\mathscr{C}$ to the category of finitely generated $k$-modules. Moreover, we show that there exists an equivalence between the stable categories of these two full subcategories. Finally, we give some equivalent characterizations on the existence of Auslander-Reiten …
We show that the category of finitely generated free modules over certain local rings is n-angulated for every n at least 3. In fact, we construct several classes of n-angles, parametrized by equivalence classes of units in the local rings. Finally, we show that for odd values of n some of these n-angulated categories are not algebraic.
