We construct massless infinite spin irreducible representations of the six-dimensional Poincaré group in the space of fields depending on twistor variables. It is shown that the massless infinite spin representation is realized on the two-twistor fields. We present a full set of equations of motion for two-twistor fields represented by the totally symmetric $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ rank $2s$ two-twistor spin-tensor and show that they carry massless infinite spin representations. A field twistor transform is constructed and infinite spin fields are found in the space-time formulation with an additional spinor coordinate.
We propose a new world-line Lagrangian model of the D=4 massless relativistic particle with continuous spin and develop its twistorial formulation. The description uses two Penrose twistors subjected to four first class constraints. After the first quantization of the world-line twistorial model, the wave function is defined by an unconstrained function on the two-dimensional complex affine plane. We find the twistor transform that determines the space-time field of the continuous spin particle through the corresponding twistor one, which plays the role of a prepotential. It is shown that this…
We develop a new twistorial field formulation of a massless infinite spin particle. Unlike our previous approach arXiv:1805.09706, the quantization of such a world-line infinite spin particle model is carried without any gauge fixing. As a result, we construct a twistorial infinite spin field and derive its helicity decomposition. Using the field twistor transform, we construct the space-time infinite (continuous) spin field, which depends on the coordinate four-vector and additional commuting Weyl spinor. The equations of motion for infinite spin fields in the cases of integer and half-intege…
A new twistorial field formulation of a massless infinite spin particle is derived. We find a twistorial infinite spin field and derive its helicity decomposition. The twistorial equations of motion for infinite spin fields in the cases of integer and half-integer helicities are derived. We show that the infinite integer-spin field and infinite half-integer-spin field form the $\mathcal{N}{=}\,1$ infinite spin supermultiplet. The corresponding supersymmetry transformations are presented. We prove that the supersymmetry algebra is closed on-shell.
This paper establishes the relation between traditional results from (euclidean) twistor theory and chiral formulations of General Relativity (GR), especially the pure connection formulation. Starting from a $SU(2)$-connection only we show how to construct natural complex data on twistor space, mainly an almost Hermitian structure and a connection on some complex line bundle. Only when this almost Hermitian structure is integrable is the connection related to an anti-self-dual-Einstein metric and makes contact with the usual results. This leads to a new proof of the non-linear-graviton theorem…
I present a novel method of deriving a basis of contact terms in massless effective field theories (EFTs). It relies on the parametrization of $N$-body kinematics via the so-called momentum twistors. A basis is constructed directly at the amplitude level, without using fields or Lagrangians. The method consists in recasting any local contact term as a sum of rational functions built from Lorentz-invariant contractions of momentum twistors. The end result is equivalent to constructing a basis of higher-dimensional operators in an EFT Lagrangian, however it is considerably simpler, especially fo…
Using known relation between $SU(2,2|4)$ supertwistors and $SU(2)$ bosonic and fermionic oscillators we identify the physical states of quantized massless $AdS_5\times S^5$ superparticle in supertwistor formulation and discuss how they fit into the spectrum of fluctuations of IIB supergravity on $AdS_5\times S^5$ superbackground.
Positive energy unitary irreducible representations of $SU(2,2)$ can be constructed with the aid of bosonic oscillators in (anti)fundamental representation of $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$ that are closely related to Penrose twistors. Starting with the correspondence between the doubleton representations, homogeneous functions on projective twistor space and on-shell $SL(2,\mathbb C)$ generalized Weyl curvature spinors and their low-spin counterparts, we study in the similar way the correspondence between the massless representations, homogeneous functions on ambitwistor space and, via the Penrose t…
We present a novel twistor formulation of the ten-dimensional massless superparticle. This formulation is based on the introduction of pure spinor variables through a field redefinition of another model for the superparticle, and in the new description we find that the super-Pauli-Lubanski three-form naturally arises as a constraint. Quantization is studied in detail for both models and they are shown to correctly describe the $D = 10$ super-Yang-Mills states.
The two-twistor formulation of particle mechanics in D-dimensional anti-de Sitter space for D=4,5,7, which linearises invariance under the AdS isometry group Sp(4;K) for K=R,C,H, is generalized to the massless N-extended "spinning particle". The twistor variables are gauge invariant with respect to the initial N local worldline supersymmetries; this simplifies aspects of the quantum theory such as implications of global gauge anomalies. We also give details of the two-supertwistor form of the superparticle, in particular the massive superparticle on AdS_5.
We develop the basics of twistor theory in de Sitter space, up to the Penrose transform for free massless fields. We treat de Sitter space as fundamental, as one does for Minkowski space in conventional introductions to twistor theory. This involves viewing twistors as spinors of the de Sitter group SO(4,1). When attached to a spacetime point, such a twistor can be reinterpreted as a local SO(3,1) Dirac spinor. Our approach highlights the antipodal map in de Sitter space, which gives rise to doublings in the standard relations between twistors and spacetime. In particular, one can generate a f…
We give a brief review of the twistor string approach to supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories with an emphasis on the different formulations of (super)string models in supertwistor space and their superspace form. We discuss the classical equivalence among the Siegel closed twistor string and the Lorentz harmonics formulation of the (N=4) tensionless superstring, and notice the possible relation of the twistor string to the D=10 Green-Schwarz superstring action, as well as to models in the enlarged, tensorial superspaces that are relevant in higher spin theories.
We incorporate gauge-invariant local composite operators into the twistor-space formulation of $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills theory. In this formulation, the interactions of the elementary fields are reorganized into infinitely many interaction vertices and we argue that the same applies to composite operators. To test our definition of the local composite operators in twistor space, we compute several corresponding form factors, thereby also initiating the study of form factors using the position twistor-space framework. Throughout this letter, we use the composite operator built from two …
Spin raising and lowering operators for massless field equations constructed from twistor spinors are considered. Solutions of the spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ massless Rarita-Schwinger equation from source-free Maxwell fields and twistor spinors are constructed. It is shown that this construction requires Ricci-flat backgrounds due to the gauge invariance of the massless Rarita-Schwinger equation. Constraints to construct spin raising and lowering operators for Rarita-Schwinger fields are found. Symmetry operators for Rarita-Schwinger fields via twistor spinors are obtained.
The classical double copy relating exact solutions of biadjoint scalar, gauge and gravity theories continues to receive widespread attention. Recently, a derivation of the exact classical double copy was presented, using ideas from twistor theory, in which spacetime fields are mapped to Cech cohomology classes in twistor space. A puzzle remains, however, in how to interpret the twistor double copy, in that it relies on somehow picking special representatives of each cohomology class. In this paper, we provide two alternative formulations of the twistor double copy using the more widely-used la…
