The magnetic damping constant is a critical parameter for magnetization dynamics and the efficiency of memory devices and magnon transport. Therefore, its manipulation by electric fields is crucial in spintronics. Here, we theoretically demonstrate the voltage-control of magnetic damping in ferro- and ferrimagnetic-insulator (FI)/topological-insulator (TI) bilayers. Assuming a capacitor-like setup, we formulate an effective dissipation torque induced by spin-charge pumping at the FI/TI interface as a function of an applied voltage. By using realistic material parameters, we find that the effective damping for a FI with 10nm thickness can be tuned by one order of magnitude under the voltage with 0.25V. Also, we provide perspectives on the voltage-induced modulation of the magnon spin transport on proximity-coupled FIs.
We theoretically show that an interlayer bias voltage in the AB-stacked bilayer graphene nanoribbons with armchair edges induces an electric polarization along the ribbon. Both tight-binding and ab initio calculations consistently indicate that when the bias voltage is weak, the polarization shows opposite signs depending on the ribbon width modulo three. This nontrivial dependence is explained using a two-band effective model. A strong limit of the bias voltage in the tight-binding model shows either one-third or zero polarization, which agrees with topological argument.
We study spin-orbit-torque-driven ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) in ferromagnetic (FM) bilayers, consisting of Co and permalloy (Py), sandwiched between Pt and MgO layers. We find that the FM layer in contact with the Pt layers dominantly determines that spin Hall angle, which is consistent with the spin-transparency model. By contrast, the FMR linewidths are considerably influenced not only by the spin-pumping effect across the Pt|FM in terface but also by the spin relaxation such as two-magnon scattering at the FMMgO interface. The CoMgO interface leads to notably increased FMR linewidths, whi…
We performed coplanar waveguide-based broadband ferromagnetic resonance experiments on the antiferromagnetic insulator MnF$_2$, while simultaneously recording the DC voltage arising in a thin platinum film deposited onto the MnF$_2$. The antiferromagnetic resonance is clearly reflected in both the transmission through the waveguide as well as the DC voltage in the Pt strip. The DC voltage remains largely unaffected by field reversal and thus presumably stems from microwave rectification and/or heating effects. However, we identify a small magnetic field orientation dependent contribution, comp…
Understanding the origin of hysteresis in the channel resistance from top gated graphene transistors is important for transistor applications. Capacitance - voltage measurements across the gate oxide on top gated bilayer graphene show hysteresis with a charging and discharging time constant of ~100 μs. However, the measured capacitance across the graphene channel does not show any hysteresis, but shows an abrupt jump at a high channel voltage due to the emergence of an order, indicating that the origin of hysteresis between gate and source is due to charge traps present in the gate oxide and g…
A fully quantum mechanical description of the precessional damping of Pt/Co bilayer is presented in the framework of the Keldysh Green function approach using {\it ab initio} electronic structure calculations. In contrast to previous calculations of classical Gilbert damping ($α_{GD}$), we demonstrate that $α_{GD}$ in the quantum case does not diverge in the ballistic regime due to the finite size of the total spin, $S$. In the limit of $S\rightarrow\infty$ we show that the formalism recovers the torque correlation expression for $α_{GD}$ which we decompose into spin-pumping and spin-orbital t…
We report on electronic transport in dual-gate, artificially stacked bilayer graphene field effect transistors (BiGFETs) fabricated from large-area chemical vapor deposited (CVD) graphene. The devices show enhanced tendency to current saturation, which leads to reduced minimum output conductance values. This results in improved intrinsic voltage gain of the devices when compared to monolayer graphene FETs. We employ a physics based compact model originally developed for Bernal stacked bilayer graphene FETs (BSBGFETs) to explore the observed phenomenon. The improvement in current saturation may…
We report on the deformation of microwave absorption spectra and of the inverse spin Hall voltage signals in thin film bilayers of yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and platinum at high microwave power levels in a 9.45-GHz TE011 cavity. As the microwave power increases from 0.15 to 200 mW, the resonance field shifts to higher values, and the initially Lorentzian spectra of the microwave absorption intensity as well as the inverse spin Hall voltage signals become asymmetric. The contributions from opening of the magnetization precession cone and heating of YIG cannot well reproduce the data. Control me…
In spintronics applications, ultrafast spin dynamics have to be controlled at femtosecond (fs) timescales via fs-laser radiation. At such ultrafast timescales, the effect of the Gilbert damping factor α on ultrafast demagnetization time should be considered. In previous explorations for the relationship between these two parameters, it was found that the theoretical calculations based on the local spin-flip scattering model do not agree with the experimental results. Here, we find that in Fe81Ga19(FeGa)/Ir20Mn80(IrMn) bilayers, the unconventional IrMn thickness dependence of α results from the…
In [Phys. Rev. Lett. vol. 119, p. 133901 (2017)] it was argued that two parallel graphene layers in the presence of electron drift support unstable plasmon modes. Here we show that the predicted plasmon instability is an artifact of errors upon evaluation of graphene polarizability in the presence if electron drift. Crucial role of broken Galilean invariance and spatial dispersion of conductivity for suppression of plasmon instabilities is highlighted.
We carried out a concerted effort to determine the absolute sign of the inverse spin Hall effect voltage generated by spin currents injected into a normal metal. We focus on yttrium iron garnet (YIG)|platinum bilayers at room temperature, generating spin currents by microwaves and temperature gradients. We find consistent results for different samples and measurement setups that agree with theory. We suggest a right-hand-rule to define a positive spin Hall angle corresponding to with the voltage expected for the simple case of scattering of free electrons from repulsive Coulomb charges.
We discuss the quantum Hall effect of bilayer graphene with finite gate voltage where the Fermi energy exceeds the interlayer hopping energy. We calculated magnetic susceptibility, diagonal and off-diagonal conductivities in finite-magnetic-field formalism, and observed crossover of integer quantum Hall effect from two independent monolayer type system to strongly coupled bilayer systems by changing the ratio of interlayer hopping energy and the gate voltage. We also discuss the case of multilayer systems with Bernal stacking
We study the spin dynamics of a ferromagnetic insulator on which graphene is placed. We show that the Gilbert damping is enhanced by the proximity exchange coupling at the interface. The modulation of the Gilbert damping constant is proportional to the product of the spin-up and spin-down densities of states of graphene. Consequently, the Gilbert damping constant in a strong magnetic field oscillates as a function of the external magnetic field that originates from the Landau level structure of graphene. We find that a measurement of the oscillation period enables the strength of the exchange …
We theoretically demonstrate that a system formed by two coupled graphene sheets enables a negative damping regime wherein graphene plasmons are pumped by a DC current. This effect is triggered by electrons drifting through one of the graphene sheets and leads to the spontaneous light emission (spasing) and wave instabilities in the mid-infrared range. It is shown that there is a deep link between the drift-induced instabilities and wave instabilities in moving media, as both result from the hybridization of oscillators with oppositely signed frequencies. With a thickness of few nanometers and…
The spin pumping mechanism and associated interfacial Gilbert damping are demonstrated in ion-beam sputtered Co2FeAl (CFA) /Mo bilayer thin films employing ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy. The dependence of the net spin current transportation on Mo layer thickness, 0 to 10 nm, and the enhancement of the net effective Gilbert damping are reported. The experimental data has been analyzed using spin pumping theory in terms of spin current pumped through the ferromagnet /nonmagnetic metal interface to deduce the effective spin mixing conductance and the spin-diffusion length, which are estima…
We demonstrate by experiments and numerical simulations that the low-temperature current-voltage characteristics in diffusive bilayer graphene (BLG) exhibit a strong superlinearity at finite bias voltages. The superlinearity is weakly dependent on doping and on the length of the graphene sample. This effect can be understood as a result of Joule heating. It is stronger in BLG than in monolayer graphene (MLG), since the conductivity of BLG is more sensitive to temperature due to the higher density of electronic states at the Dirac point.
We investigate the influence of gold thin-films subsequently deposited on a set of initially bare, doubly clamped, high-stress silicon nitride string resonators at room temperature. Analytical expressions for resonance frequency, quality factor and damping for both in- and out-of-plane flexural modes of the bilayer system are derived, which allows for the determination of effective elastic parameters of the composite structure from our experimental data. We find the inverse quality factor to scale linearly with the gold film thickness, indicating that the overall damping is governed by losses …
We study how the shape of the spinwave resonance lines in rf-voltage induced FMR can be used to extract the spinwave density of states and the damping within the precessing layer in nanoscale tunnel junctions that possess perpendicular anisotropy. We work with a field applied along the easy axis to preserve the uniaxial symmetry of the system. We describe the set-up to study the susceptibility contributions of the spin waves in the field-frequency space. We then identify the maximum device size above which the spinwaves can no longer be studied in isolation as the linewidths of their responses…
Spin-orbit torques in ferromagnetic (FM)/non-magnetic (NM) heterostructures offer more energy-efficient means to realize spin-logic devices; however, their strengths are determined by the heterostructure interface. This work examines crystal orientation impact on the spin-orbit torque efficiency in different Fe/Pd bilayer systems. Spin torque ferromagnetic measurements evidence that the damping-like torque efficiency is higher in epitaxial than in polycrystalline bilayer structures while the field-like torque is negligible in all bilayer structures. The strength of the damping-like torque decr…
Here we address the concerns of Svintsov and Ryzhii [arXiv:1812.03764] on our article on negative Landau damping in graphene [Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 133901 (2017)]. We prove that due to the differences between the kinetic and canonical momenta, the conductivity of drift-current biased graphene is ruled by a Galilean transformation when the electron-electron interactions predominate and force the electron gas to move with constant velocity, similar to a moving medium. Furthermore, it is shown that the nonlocal effects in graphene neither preclude a negative Landau damping nor the emergence of in…
The ability to controllably manipulate the laser-induced ultrafast magnetic dynamics is a prerequisite for future high speed spintronic devices. The optimization of devices requires the controllability of the ultrafast demagnetization time, , and intrinsic Gilbert damping, . In previous attempts to establish the relationship between and , the rare-earth doping of a permalloy film with two different demagnetization mechanism is not a suitable candidate. Here, we choose Co/Ni bilayers to investigate the relations between and by means of time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect (TRMOKE) via adju…
We present a theory of Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert damping $α$ for a localized spin ${\vec S}$ in the junction coupled to the conduction electrons in both leads under an applied volatege $V$. We find the voltage dependence of the damping term reflecting the energy dependence of the density of states. We find the effect is linear in the voltage and cotrolled by particle-hole asymmetry of the leads.
In this work, we propose the Bilayer Graphene Tunnel Field Effect Transistor (BG-TFET) as a device suitable for fabrication and circuit integration with present-day technology. It provides high Ion/Ioff ratio at ultra-low supply voltage, without the limitations in terms of prohibitive lithography and patterning requirements for circuit integration of graphene nanoribbons. Our investigation is based on the solution of the coupled Poisson and Schroedinger equations in three dimensions, within the Non-Equilibrium Green (NEGF) formalism on a Tight Binding Hamiltonian. We show that the small achiev…
Experiments in gated bilayer graphene with stacking domain walls present topological gapless states protected by no-valley mixing. Here we research these states under gate voltages using atomistic models, which allow us to elucidate their origin. We find that the gate potential controls the layer localization of the two states, which switches non-trivially between layers depending on the applied gate voltage magnitude. We also show how these bilayer gapless states arise from bands of single-layer graphene by analyzing the formation of carbon bonds between layers. Based on this analysis we prov…
We compare thermal-gradient-driven transverse voltages in ferrimagnetic-insulator/heavy-metal bilayers (Tm3Fe5O12/W and Tm3Fe5O12/Pt) to corresponding electrically-driven transverse resistances at and above room temperature. We find for Tm3Fe5O12/W that the thermal and electrical effects can be explained by a common spin-current detection mechanism, the physics underlying spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR). However, for Tm3Fe5O12/Pt the ratio of the electrically-driven transverse voltages (planar Hall signal/anomalous Hall signal) is much larger than the ratio of corresponding thermal-gradient …
We consider bilayer quantum Hall systems at total filling factor $ν=1$ in presence of a bias voltage $Δ_v$ which leads to different filling factors in each layer. We use auxiliary field functional integral approach to study mean-field solutions and collective excitations around them. We find that at large layer separation, the collective excitations soften at a finite wave vector leading to the collapse of quasiparticle gap. Our calculations predict that as the bias voltage is increased, bilayer systems undergo a phase transition from a compressible state to a $ν=1$ phase-coherent state {\it w…
We report angle-resolved Raman scattering observations of the temperature dependent Landau damping of the acoustic plasmon in an electron bilayer system realised in a GaAs double quantum well structure. Corresponding calculations of the charge-density excitation spectrum of the electron bilayer using forms of the random phase approximation (RPA), and the static local field formalism of Singwi, Tosi, Land and Sjölander (STLS) extended to incorporate non-zero electron temperature $T_{\rm e}$ and phenomenological damping, are also presented. The STLS calculations include details of the temperatur…
Plasma oscillations in doped graphene bilayer at zero temperature has been investigated. Bias voltage effect on the dispersion curve for plasmon in bigraphene has been studied in random phase approximation. The possibility of controlling of curvature of dispersion curve for plasmon by changing of bias voltage has been shown. The dependence of this curvature on the bias voltage has been predicted to have the nonmonotonous character. Namely the existence of breaking point for such dependence has been found out. The bias voltage corresponding to the breaking point is shown to increase with free c…
We develop a method for universally resolving the important issue of separating spin pumping (SP) from spin rectification (SR) signals in bilayer spintronics devices. This method is based on the characteristic distinction of SP and SR, as revealed in their different angular and field symmetries. It applies generally for analyzing charge voltages in bilayers induced by the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR), independent of FMR line shape. Hence, it solves the outstanding problem that device specific microwave properties restrict the universal quantification of the spin Hall angle in bilayer devices …
We investigate optically excited THz standing spin waves in noncollinear magnetic bilayers. Using femtosecond laser-pulse excitation, a spin current is generated in the first ferromagnetic (FM) layer, and flows through a conductive spacer layer to be injected into the second (transverse) FM layer, where it exerts a spin-transfer torque on the magnetization and excites higher-order standing spin waves. We show that the noncollinear magnetic bilayer is a convenient tool that allows easy excitation of THz spin waves, and can be used to investigate the dispersion and thereby the spin wave stiffnes…
We study ballistic transport in periodically gated bilayer graphene as a candidate for a 2D electronic metamaterial. Our calculations use the equilibrium Green function formalism and take into account quantum corrections to charge density changes induced by a periodically modulated top gate voltage. Our results reveal an intriguing interference-like pattern, similar to that of a Fabry-Perot interferometer, in the resistance map as a function of the voltage $V_{BG}$ applied to the extended bottom gate and $V_{TG}$ applied to the periodic top gate.
We investigate hybrid structures based on a bilayer quantum spin Hall system in proximity to an s-wave superconductor as a platform to mimic time-reversal symmetric topological superconductors. In this bilayer setup, the induced pairing can be of intra- or inter-layer type, and domain walls of those different types of pairing potentials host Kramers partners (time-reversal conjugate pairs) of Majorana bound states. Interestingly, we discover that such topological interfaces providing Majorana bound states can also be achieved in an otherwise homogeneous system by a spatially dependent inter-la…
We present an analytical device model for a graphene bilayer field-effect transistor (GBL-FET) with a graphene bilayer as a channel, and with back and top gates. The model accounts for the dependences of the electron and hole Fermi energies as well as energy gap in different sections of the channel on the bias back-gate and top-gate voltages. Using this model, we calculate the dc and ac source-drain currents and the transconductance of GBL-FETs with both ballistic and collision dominated electron transport as functions of structural parameters, the bias back-gate and top-gate voltages, and the…
We report measurements of magnetoresistance in bilayer graphene as a function of gate voltage (carrier density) and temperature. We examine multiple contributions to the magnetoresistance, including those of weak localization (WL), universal conductance fluctuations (UCF), and inhomogeneous charge transport. A clear WL signal is evident at all measured gate voltages (in the hole doped regime) and temperature ranges (from 0.25 K to 4.3 K), and the phase coherence length extracted from WL data does not saturate at low temperatures. The WL data is fit to demonstrate that electron-electron Nyquist…
Evidence of orbital Hall current induced correlation in second harmonic response of longitudinal and transverse voltage in light metal-ferromagnet bilayers
We study the electronic properties of AA-stacked bilayer graphene in a transverse electric field. The strong on-site Coulomb repulsion stabilizes the antiferromagnetic order in such a system. The antiferromagnetic order is suppressed by the transverse bias voltage, at least partially. The inter-plane Coulomb repulsion and non-zero voltage stabilize an exciton order parameter. The exciton order parameter coexists with the antiferromagnetism and can be as large as several tens of meV for realistic values of the bias voltage and interaction constants. The application of a transverse bias voltage …
The transmission across a graphene bilayer region is calculated for two different types of connections to monolayer leads. A transfer matrix algorithm based on a tight binding model is developed to obtain the ballistic transmission beyond linear response. The two configurations are found to behave similarly when no gate voltage is applied. For a finite gate voltage, both develop a conductance gap characteristic of a biased bilayer, but only one shows a pronounced conductance step at the gap edge. A gate voltage domain wall applied to the bilayer region renders the conductance of the two config…
We investigate spin pumping phenomena in polycrystalline CoFeB/Pt and CoFeB/Ta bilayers and the correlation between the effective spin mixing conductance $g^{\uparrow\downarrow}_{\rm eff}$ and the obtained voltages generated by the spin-to-charge current conversion via the inverse spin Hall effect in the Pt and Ta layers. For this purpose we measure the in-plane angular dependence of the generated voltages on the external static magnetic field and we apply a model to separate the spin pumping signal from the one generated by the spin rectification effect in the magnetic layer. Our results reve…
We report a tunable spin mixing conductance, up to $\pm 22\%$, in a Y${}_{3}$Fe${}_{5}$O${}_{12}$/Platinum (YIG/Pt) bilayer. This control is achieved by applying a gate voltage with an ionic gate technique, which exhibits a gate-dependent ferromagnetic resonance line width. Furthermore, we observed a gate-dependent spin pumping and spin Hall angle in the Pt layer, which is also tunable up to $\pm$ 13.6\%. This work experimentally demonstrates spin current control through spin pumping and a gate voltage in a YIG/Pt bilayer, demonstrating the crucial role of the interfacial charge density for the…
Materials with significant spin-orbit coupling enable efficient spin-to-charge interconversion, which can be utilized in novel spin electronic devices. A number of elements, mainly heavy-metals (HM) have been identified to produce a sizable spin current ($j_\mathrm{s}$), while supplied with a charge current ($j$), detected mainly in the neighbouring ferromagnetic (FM) layer. Apart from the spin Hall angle $θ_\mathrm{SH}$ = $j_\mathrm{s}$/$j$, spin Hall conductivity ($σ_\mathrm{SH}$) is an important parameter, which takes also the resistivity of the material into account. In this work, we prese…
The tight-binding model of a graphene bilayer is used to find the gap between the conduction and valence bands, as a function of both the gate voltage and as the doping by donors or acceptors. The total Hartree energy is minimized and the equation for the gap is obtained. This equation for the ratio of the gap to the chemical potential is determined only by the screening constant. Thus the gap is strictly proportional to the gate voltage or the carrier concentration in the absence of donors or acceptors. In the opposite case, where the donors or acceptors are present, the gap demonstrates the …
We develop a theory for the anomalous interlayer conductance peaks observed in bilayer electron systems at nu=1. Our model shows the that the size of the peak at zero bias decreases rapidly with increasing in-plane magnetic field, but its location is unchanged. The I-V characteristic is linear at small voltages, in agreement with experimental observations. In addition we make quantitative predictions for how the inter-layer conductance peaks vary in position with in-plane magnetic field at high voltages. Finally, we predict novel bi-stable behavior at intermediate voltages.
We consider intrinsic contributions to the spin Hall and spin Nernst effects in a bilayer graphene. The relevant electronic spectrum is obtained from the tight binding Hamiltonian, which also includes the intrinsic spin-orbit interaction. The corresponding spin Hall and spin Nernst conductivities are compared with those obtained from effective Hamiltonians appropriate for states in the vicinity of the Fermi level of a neutral bilayer graphene. Both conductivities are determined within the linear response theory and Green function formalism. The influence of an external voltage between the two …
We report on our studies of fractal butterflies in biased bilayer graphene in the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) regime. We have considered the case when the external periodic potential is present in one layer and have illustrated the effect of varying both the periodic potential strength and the bias voltage on the FQHE and the butterfly energy gaps. Interestingly, the butterfly spectra exhibits remarkable phase transitions between the FQHE gap and the butterfly gap for chiral electrons in bilayer graphene, by varying either the periodic potential strength or the bias voltage. We also …
We study in this paper the edge polarizations and their consequences for a biased Bernal stacked bilayer graphene nanoribbon with zigzag termination. The magnetic states are classified according to the interlayer and intralayer couplings between the edge polarizations, and the magnetic phase diagram of doping versus bias voltage is given. Coplanar magnetic phase is found and the variation of its magnetic structure with the bias voltage is investigated. For all the magnetic states, we also discuss the possibility of the half-metallicity, and for a ribbon with perfect zigzag edges we predict sev…

A graphene bilayer phototransistor (GBL-PT) is proposed and analyzed. The GBL-PT under consideration has the structure of a field-effect transistor with a GBL as the channel and the back and top gates. The positive bias of the back gate results in the formation of conducting source and drain sections in the channel, while the negatively biased top gate provides the potential barrier which is controlled by the charge of the photogenerated holes. The features of the GBL-PT operation are associated with the variations of both the potential distribution and the energy gap in different sections of …
Application of a perpendicular electric field induces a band gap in bilayer graphene, and it also creates a "Mexican hat" structure in the dispersion relation. This structure has unusual implications for the hydrogen-like bound state of an electron to a Coulomb impurity. We calculate the ground state energy of this hydrogen-like state as a function of the applied interlayer voltage and the effective fine structure constant. Unlike in the normal hydrogen atom, the resulting wavefunction has many nodes even in the ground state. Further, the electron state undergoes "atomic collapse" into the Dir…
The relativistic-like behavior of electrons in graphene significantly influences the interaction properties of these electrons in a quantizing magnetic field, resulting in more stable fractional quantum Hall effect states as compared to those in conventional (non-relativistic) semiconductor systems. In bilayer graphene the interaction strength can be controlled by a bias voltage and by the orientation of the magnetic field. The finite bias voltage between the graphene monolayers can in fact, enhance the interaction strength in a given Landau level. As a function of the bias voltage, a graphene…
We introduce a design of electrically isolated floating bilayer GaAs quantum wells (QW) in which application of a large gating voltage controllably and highly reproducibly induces charges that remain trapped in the bilayer after removal of the gating voltage. At smaller gate voltages, the bilayer is fully electrically isolated from external electrodes by thick insulating barriers. This design permits full control of the total and differential densities of two coupled 2D electron systems. The floating bilayer design provides a unique approach for studying systems inaccessible by simple transpor…
Spin pumping in ferromagnets provides a source of pure spin currents. Via the inverse spin Hall effect a spin current is converted into a charge current and a corresponding detectable DC-voltage. The ratio of injected spin current to resulting charge current is given by the spin Hall angle. However, the number of experiments more or less equals the number of different values for spin Hall angles, even for the most studied normal metal platinum. This publication provides a full study of inverse spin Hall effect and anisotropic magnetoresistance for different NiFe(Py) / normal metal bilayers usi…
Bilayer quantum Hall states support a flow of nearly dissipationless staggered current which can only decay through collective channels. We study the dominant finite-temperature dissipation mechanism which in narrow bars is driven by thermal nucleation of pseudospin solitons. We find the finite-temperature resistivity, predict the resulting staggered current-voltage characteristics, and calculate the associated zero-temperature critical staggered current and gate voltage.
We address the optical conductivity of undoped bilayer graphene in the presence of a finite bias voltage at finite temperature. The effects of gap parameter and stacking type on optical conductivity are discussed in the context of tight binding model Hamiltonian. Green's function approach has been implemented to find the behavior of optical conductivity of bilayer graphene within linear response theory. We have found the frequency dependence of optical conductivity for different values of gap parameter and bias voltage. Also the dependence of optical conductivity on the temperature has been in…
Magneto-transport and drag measurements on a quasi-Corbino 2D electron bilayer at the systems total filling factor 1 (v_tot=1) reveal a drag voltage that is equal in magnitude to the drive voltage as soon as the two layers begin to form the expected v_tot=1 exciton condensate. The identity of both voltages remains present even at elevated temperatures of 0.25 K. The conductance in the current carrying layer vanishes only in the limit of strong coupling between the two layers and at T->0 K which suggests the presence of an excitonic circular current.
We present an experimental study of spin-wave excitation and propagation in microstructured waveguides patterned from a 100 nm thick yttrium iron garnet (YIG)/platinum (Pt) bilayer. The life time of the spin waves is found to be more than an order of magnitude higher than in comparably sized metallic structures despite the fact that the Pt capping enhances the Gilbert damping. Utilizing microfocus Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy, we reveal the spin-wave mode structure for different excitation frequencies. An exponential spin-wave amplitude decay length of 31 μm is observed which is a s…
