A digraph $D=(V,A)$ of order $n\geq 3$ is pancyclic, whenever $D$ contains a directed cycle of length $k$ for each $k\in\{3,...,n\}$; and D is vertex-pancyclic iff, for each vertex $v\in V$ and each $k\in \{3,...,n\}$, $D$ contains a directed cycle of length $k$ passing through $v$.
Let $D_1$, $D_2$,..., $D_k$ be a collection of pairwise vertex disjoint digraphs. The generalized sum (g.s.) of $D_1$, $D_2$,..., $D_k$, denoted by $\oplus_{i=1}^k D_i$ or $D_1\oplus D_2 \oplus \cdots \oplus D_k$, is the set of all digraphs D satisfying: (i) $V(D)=\bigcup_{i=1}^k V(D_i)$, (ii) $D\langle V(D_i) \rangle \cong D_i$ for $i=1, 2,..., k$; and (iii) for each pair of vertices belonging to different summands of D, there is exactly one arc between them, with an arbitrary but fixed direction. A digraph $D\in \oplus_{i=1}^k D_i$ will be called a generalized sum (g.s.) of $D_1$, $D_2$,..., $D_k$.
In this paper we prove that if $D_1$ and $D_2$ are two vertex disjoint Hamiltonian digraphs and $D\in D_1 \oplus D_2$ is strong, then at least one of the following assertions holds: $D$ is vertex-pancyclic, it is pancyclic or it is Hamiltonian and contains a directed cycle of length $l$ for each $l\in\{3,..., \max\{|V(D_i)|+1 \colon i\in\{1,2\}\}\}$. Moreover, we prove that if $D_1$, $D_2$,..., $D_k$ is a collection of pairwise vertex disjoint Hamiltonian digraphs, $n_i=|V(D_i)|$ for each $i\in \{1,...,k\}$ and $D \in \oplus_{i=1}^k D_i$ is strong, then at least one of the following assertions holds: $D$ is vertex-pancyclic, it is pancyclic or it is Hamiltonian and contains a directed cycle of length $l$ for each $l\in \{3,..., \max\{\left(\sum_{i\in S} n_i\right) + 1 \colon S\subset\{1,..., k\}\text{ with }|S|=k-1\}\}$.
A digraph $D=(V(D)$, $A(D))$ of order $n\geq 3$ is pancyclic, whenever $D$ contains a directed cycle of length $k$ for each $k\in \{3,\ldots,n\}$; and $D$ is vertex-pancyclic iff, for each vertex $v\in V(D)$ and each $k\in \{3,\ldots,n\}$, $D$ contains a directed cycle of length $k$ passing through $v$. Let $D_1, D_2, \ldots, D_k$ be a collection of pairwise vertex disjoint digraphs. The generalized sum (g.s.) of $D_1, D_2, \ldots, D_k$, denoted by $\oplus_{i=1}^k D_i$ or $D_1\oplus D_2 \oplus \cdots \oplus D_k$, is the set of all digraphs $D$ satisfying: (i) $V(D)=\bigcup_{i=1}^k V(D_i)$, (ii…
An alternating cycle in a 2-two-edge-colored graph is a cycle such that any two consecutive edges have different colors. Let $G_1, \ldots, G_k$ be a collection of pairwise vertex disjoint 2-edge-colored graphs. The colored generalized sum of $G_1, \ldots, G_k$, denoted by $ \oplus_{i=1}^k G_i$, is the set of all 2-edge-colored graphs $G$ such that: (i) $V(G)=\bigcup_{i=1}^k V(G_i)$, (ii) $G\langle V(G_i)\rangle\cong G_i$ for $i=1,\ldots, k$ as edge-colored graphs where $G\langle V(G_i)\rangle$ has the same coloring as $G_i$ and (iii) between each pair of vertices in different summands of $G$ t…
We prove that a strongly connected balanced bipartite digraph $D$ of order $2a$ is hamiltonian, provided $a\geq3$ and $d(x)+d(y)\geq 3a$ for every pair of vertices $x$, $y$ with a common in-neighbour or a common out-neighbour in $D$.
Let $D=(V,A)$ be a digraphs without isolated vertices. A vertex-degree based invariant $I(D)$ related to a real function $φ$ of $D$ is defined as a summation over all arcs, $I(D) = \frac{1}{2}\sum_{uv\in A}{φ(d_u^+,d_v^-)}$, where $d_u^+$ (resp. $d_u^-$) denotes the out-degree (resp. in-degree) of a vertex $u$. In this paper, we give the extremal values and extremal digraphs of $I(D)$ over all digraphs with $n$ non-isolated vertices. Applying these results, we obtain the extremal values of some vertex-degree based topological indices of digraphs, such as the Randić index, the Zagreb index, the…
A weighted digraph is a digraph such that every arc is assigned a nonnegative number, called the weight of the arc. The weighted outdegree of a vertex $v$ in a weighted digraph $D$ is the sum of the weights of the arcs with $v$ as their tail, and the weight of a directed cycle $C$ in $D$ is the sum of the weights of the arcs of $C$. In this note we prove that if every vertex of a weighted digraph $D$ with order $n$ has weighted outdegree at least 1, then there exists a directed cycle in $D$ with weight at least $1/\log_2 n$. This proves a conjecture of Bollobás and Scott up to a constant facto…
Let $D$ be a strongly connected digraphs on $n\ge 4$ vertices. A vertex $v$ of $D$ is noncritical, if the digraph $D-v$ is strongly connected. We prove, that if sum of the degrees of any two adjacent vertices of $D$ is at least $n+1$, then there exists a noncritical vertex in $D$, and if sum of the degrees of any two adjacent vertices of $D$ is at least $n+2$, then there exist two noncritical vertices in $D$. A series of examples confirm that these bounds are tight.
Let $G=(V,A)$ be a digraph and $k\ge 1$ an integer. For $u,v\in V$, we say that the vertex $u$ distance $k$-dominate $v$ if the distance from $u$ to $v$ at most $k$. A set $D$ of vertices in $G$ is a distance $k$-dominating set if for each vertex of $V\setminus D$ is distance $k$-dominated by some vertex of $D$. The {\em distance $k$-domination number} of $G$, denoted by $γ_{k}(G)$, is the minimum cardinality of a distance $k$-dominating set of $G$. Generalized de Bruijn digraphs $G_B(n,d)$ and generalized Kautz digraphs $G_K(n,d)$ are good candidates for interconnection networks. Tian and Xu …
The set of distinct eigenvalues of a signed digraph $S$ together with their multiplicities is called its spectrum. The energy of a signed digraph $S$ with eigenvalues $z_1,z_2,\cdots,z_n$ is defined as $E(S)=\sum_{j=1}^{n}|\Re z_j|$, where $\Re z_j $ denotes real part of complex number $z_j$. In this paper, we show that the characteristic polynomial of a bipartite signed digraph of order $n$ with each cycle of length $\equiv 0\pmod 4$ negative and each cycle of length $\equiv 2\pmod 4$ positive is of the form \\ $$ϕ_S(z)=z^n+\sum\limits_{j=1}^{\lfloor{\frac{n}{2}}\rfloor}(-1)^j c_{2j}(S)z^{n-2…
Let $D=(V,A)$ be an acyclic digraph. For $x\in V$ define $e_{_{D}}(x)$ to be the difference of the indegree and the outdegree of $x$. An acyclic ordering of the vertices of $D$ is a one-to-one map $g: V \rightarrow [1,|V|] $ that has the property that for all $x,y\in V$ if $(x,y)\in A$, then $g(x) < g(y)$. We prove that for every acyclic ordering $g$ of $D$ the following inequality holds: \[\sum_{x\in V} e_{_{D}}(x)\cdot g(x) ~\geq~ \frac{1}{2} \sum_{x\in V}[e_{_{D}}(x)]^2~.\] The class of acyclic digraphs for which equality holds is determined as the class of comparbility digraphs of posets o…
The concept of energy of a signed digraph is extended to iota energy of a signed digraph. The energy of a signed digraph $S$ is defined by $E(S)=\sum_{k=1}^n|\text{Re}(z_k)|$, where $\text{Re}(z_k)$ is the real part of eigenvalue $z_k$ and $z_k$ is the eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of $S$ with $n$ vertices, $k=1,2,\ldots,n$. Then the iota energy of $S$ is defined by $E(S)=\sum_{k=1}^n|\text{Im}(z_k)|$, where $\text{Im}(z_k)$ is the imaginary part of eigenvalue $z_k$. In this paper, we consider a special graph class for bicyclic signed digraphs $\mathcal{S}_n$ with $n$ vertices which have …
In this paper we extend the concept of energy to signed digraphs. We obtain Coulson's integral formula for energy of signed digraphs. Formulae for energies of signed directed cycles are computed and it is shown that energy of non cycle balanced signed directed cycles increases monotonically with respect to number of vertices. Characterization of signed digraphs having energy equal to zero is given. We extend the concept of non complete extended $p$ sum (or briefly, NEPS) to signed digraphs. An infinite family of equienergetic signed digraphs is constructed. Moreover, we extend McClelland's ine…
Given a non-trivial finite Abelian group $(A,+)$, let $n(A) \ge 2$ be the smallest integer such that for every labelling of the arcs of the bidirected complete graph of order $n(A)$ with elements from $A$ there exists a directed cycle for which the sum of the arc-labels is zero. The problem of determining $n(\mathbb{Z}_q)$ for integers $q \ge 2$ was recently considered by Alon and Krivelevich, who proved that $n(\mathbb{Z}_q)=O(q \log q)$. Here we improve their bound and show that $n(\mathbb{Z}_q)$ grows linearly. More generally we prove that for every finite Abelian group $A$ we have $n(A) \l…
We prove a sharp Ore-type criterion for hamiltonicity of balanced bipartite digraphs: A bipartite digraph D, with colour classes of cardinality N, is hamiltonian if, for every pair of vertices u and v from opposite colour classes of D such that the arc uv is not in D, the sum of the outdegree of u and the indegree of v is greater than or equal to N+2.
Let $\overrightarrow{G}$ be a directed graph of order $n$ with no component of order less than $4$, and let $Γ$ be a finite Abelian group such that $|Γ|\geq n+6$. We show that there exists a mapping $ψ$ from the arc set $E(\overrightarrow{G})$ of $\overrightarrow{G}$ to an Abelian group $Γ$ such that if we define a mapping $φ_ψ$ from the vertex set $V(\overrightarrow{G})$ of $\overrightarrow{G}$ to $Γ$ by $$φ_ψ(x)=\sum_{y\in N^+(x)}ψ(xy)-\sum_{y\in N^-(x)}ψ(yx),\;\;\;(x\in V(\overrightarrow{G})),$$ then $φ_ψ$ is injective. Such a labeling $ψ$ is called \textit{irregular}.
The energy and iota energy of signed digraphs are respectively defined as the sum of absolute values of real parts and sum of absolute values of imaginary parts of its eigenvalues. Recently, Yang and Wang (2018) find the energy and iota energy ordering of digraphs in D(n) and compute the maximal energy and iota energy, where D(n) denotes the set of vertex-disjoint bicyclic digraphs of a fixed order n. In this paper, we investigate the energy ordering of signed digraphs in D(n,s) and finds the maximal energy, where D(n,s) denotes the set of vertex-disjoint bicyclic sidigraphs of a fixed order n…
Let $G$ be a graph of order $n$. It is well-known that $α(G)\geq \sum_{i=1}^n \frac{1}{1+d_i}$, where $α(G)$ is the independence number of $G$ and $d_1,\ldots,d_n$ is the degree sequence of $G$. We extend this result to digraphs by showing that if $D$ is a digraph with $n$ vertices, then $ α(D)\geq \sum_{i=1}^n \left( \frac{1}{1+d_i^+} + \frac{1}{1+d_i^-} - \frac{1}{1+d_i}\right)$, where $α(D)$ is the maximum size of an acyclic vertex set of $D$. Golowich proved that for any digraph $D$, $χ(D)\leq \lceil \frac{4k}{5} \rceil+2$, where $k=max(Δ^+(D),Δ^-(D))$. We give a short and simple proof for…
C. Thomassen (Proc. London Math. Soc. (3) 42 (1981), 231-251) gave a characterization of strongly connected non-Hamiltonian digraphs of order $p\geq 3$ with minimum degree $p-1$. In this paper we give an analogous characterization of strongly connected non-Hamiltonian digraphs with Meyniel-type condition (the sum of degrees of every pair of non-adjacent vertices $x$ and $y$ at least $2p-2$). Moreover, we prove that such digraphs $D$ contain cycles of all lengths $k$, for $2\leq k\leq m$, where $m$ is the length of a longest cycle in $D$.
We discuss the length $\vec{L}_{c,n}$ of the longest directed cycle in the sparse random digraph $D_{n,p},p=c/n$, $c$ constant. We show that for large $c$ there exists a function $\vec{f}(c)$ such that $\vec{L}_{c,n}/n\to \vec{f}(c)$ a.s. The function $\vec{f}(c)=1-\sum_{k=1}^\infty p_k(c)e^{-kc}$ where $p_k$ is a polynomial in $c$. We are only able to explicitly give the values $p_1,p_2$, although we could in principle compute any $p_k$.
For a simple digraph $G$ of order $n$ with vertex set $\{v_1,v_2,\ldots, v_n\}$, let $d_i^+$ and $d_i^-$ denote the out-degree and in-degree of a vertex $v_i$ in $G$, respectively. Let $D^+(G)=diag(d_1^+,d_2^+,\ldots,d_n^+)$ and $D^-(G)=diag(d_1^-,d_2^-,\ldots,d_n^-)$. In this paper we introduce $\widetilde{SL}(G)=\widetilde{D}(G)-S(G)$ to be a new kind of skew Laplacian matrix of $G$, where $\widetilde{D}(G)=D^+(G)-D^-(G)$ and $S(G)$ is the skew-adjacency matrix of $G$, and from which we define the skew Laplacian energy $SLE(G)$ of $G$ as the sum of the norms of all the eigenvalues of $\widet…
Natural join of $di-bigraphs$ that is directed biparted graphs and their corresponding adjacency matrices is defined and then applied to investigate the so called cobweb posets and their $Hasse$ digraphs called $KoDAGs$. $KoDAGs$ are special orderable directed acyclic graphs which are cover relation digraphs of cobweb posets introduced by the author few years ago. $KoDAGs$ appear to be distinguished family of $Ferrers$ digraphs which are natural join of a corresponding ordering chain of one direction directed cliques called $di-bicliques$. These digraphs serve to represent faithfully correspon…
For a positive integer $k$, a $k$-rainbow dominating function ($k$RDF) on a digraph $D$ is a function $f$ from the vertex set $V(D)$ to the set of all subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,k\}$ such that for any vertex $v$ with $f(v)=\emptyset$, $\bigcup_{u\in N^-(v)}f(u)=\{1,2,\ldots,k\}$, where $N^-(v)$ is the set of in-neighbors of $v$. The weight of a $k$RDF $f$ is defined as $\sum_{v\in V(D)}|f(v)|$. A $k$RDF $f$ on $D$ with no isolated vertex is called a total $k$-rainbow dominating function if the subdigraph of $D$ induced by the set $\{v\in V(D):f(v)\ne\emptyset\}$ has no isolated vertex. The total…
Let $\overrightarrow{G}$ be a directed graph with no component of orderless than~$3$, and let $Γ$ be a finite Abelian group such that $|Γ|\geq 4|V(\overrightarrow{G})|$ or if $|V(\overrightarrow{G})|$ is large enough with respect to an arbitrarily fixed $\varepsilon>0$ then $|Γ|\geq (1+\varepsilon)|V(\overrightarrow{G})|$. We show that there exists an injective mapping $φ$ from $V(\overrightarrow{G})$ to the group $Γ$ such that $\sum_{x\in V(C)}φ(x) = 0$ for every connected component $C$ of $\overrightarrow{G}$, where $0$ is the identity element of $Γ$. Moreover we show some applications of th…

We investigate the joint distribution of the vertex degrees in three models of random bipartite graphs. Namely, we can choose each edge with a specified probability, choose a specified number of edges, or specify the vertex degrees in one of the two colour classes. This problem can alternatively be described in terms of the row and sum columns of random binary matrix or the in-degrees and out-degrees of a random digraph, in which case we can optionally forbid loops. It can also be cast as a problem in random hypergraphs, or as a classical occupancy, allocation, or coupon collection problem. In…
An arc colored eulerian multidigraph with $l$ colors is rainbow eulerian if there is an eulerian circuit in which a sequence of $l$ colors repeats. The digraph product that refers the title was introduced by Figueroa-Centeno et al. as follows: let $D$ be a digraph and let $Γ$ be a family of digraphs such that $V(F)=V$ for every $F\in Γ$. Consider any function $h:E(D)\longrightarrowΓ$. Then the product $D\otimes_{h} Γ$ is the digraph with vertex set $V(D)\times V$ and $((a,x),(b,y))\in E(D\otimes_{h}Γ)$ if and only if $ (a,b)\in E(D)$ and $ (x,y)\in E(h (a,b))$. In this paper we use rainbow eul…

A labeling of a digraph $D$ with $m$ arcs is a bijection from the set of arcs of $D$ to $\{1, \ldots, m\}$. A labeling of $D$ is antimagic if no two vertices in $D$ have the same vertex-sum, where the vertex-sum of a vertex $u\in V(D)$ for a labeling is the sum of labels of all arcs entering $u$ minus the sum of labels of all arcs leaving $u$. Motivated by the conjecture of Hartsfield and Ringel from 1990 on antimagic labelings of graphs, Hefetz, Mütze, and Schwartz [On antimagic directed graphs, J Graph Theory 64 (2010) 219--232] initiated the study of antimagic labelings of digraphs, and con…
For the classical backward induction algorithm, the input is an arbitrary $n$-person positional game with perfect information modeled by a finite acyclic directed graph (digraph) and the output is a profile $(x_1, \ldots, x_n)$ of pure positional strategies that form some special subgame perfect Nash equilibrium. We extend this algorithm to work with digraphs that may have directed cycles. Each digraph admits a unique partition into strongly connected components, which will be treated as the outcomes of the game. Such a game will be called a {\em deterministic graphical multistage}(DGMS) game.…
We use the \emph{unit-graphs} and the \emph{special unit-digraphs} on matrix rings to show that every $n \times n$ nonzero matrix over $\Bbb F_q$ can be written as a sum of two $\operatorname{SL}_n$-matrices when $n>1$. We compute the eigenvalues of these graphs in terms of Kloosterman sums and study their spectral properties; and prove that if $X$ is a subset of $\operatorname{Mat}_2 (\Bbb F_q)$ with size $|X| > \frac{2 q^3 \sqrt{q}}{q - 1}$, then $X$ contains at least two distinct matrices whose difference has determinant $α$ for any $α\in \Bbb F_q^{\ast}$. Using this result we also prove a …
An antimagic labeling of a digraph $D$ with $n$ vertices and $m$ arcs is a bijection from the set of arcs of $D$ to $\{1,2,\cdots,m\}$ such that all $n$ oriented vertex-sums are pairwise distinct, where the oriented vertex-sum of a vertex is the sum of labels of all arcs entering that vertex minus the sum of labels of all arcs leaving it. A graph $G$ admits an antimagic orientation if $G$ has an orientation $D$ such that $D$ has an antimagic labeling. Hefetz, M{ü}tze and Schwartz conjectured every connected graph admits an antimagic orientation. In this paper, we support this conjecture by pro…
Given a digraph $D$ with $m$ arcs and a bijection $τ: A(D)\rightarrow \{1, 2, \ldots, m\}$, we say $(D, τ)$ is an antimagic orientation of a graph $G$ if $D$ is an orientation of $G$ and no two vertices in $D$ have the same vertex-sum under $τ$, where the vertex-sum of a vertex $u$ in $D$ under $τ$ is the sum of labels of all arcs entering $u$ minus the sum of labels of all arcs leaving $u$. Hefetz, Mütze, and Schwartz in 2010 initiated the study of antimagic orientations of graphs, and conjectured that every connected graph admits an antimagic orientation. This conjecture seems hard, and few …

A pair $(u, v)$ of (not necessarily distinct) vertices in a directed graph $D$ is called a reachable pair if there exists a directed path from $u$ to $v$. We define the weight of $D$ to be the number of reachable pairs of $D$, which equals the sum of the number of vertices in $D$ and the number of directed edges in the transitive closure of $D$. In this paper, we study the set $W(n)$ of possible weights of directed graphs on $n$ labeled vertices. We prove that $W(n)$ can be determined recursively and describe the integers in the set. Moreover, if $b(n) \geqslant n$ is the least integer for whi…
We propose to study a problem that arises naturally from both Topological Numbering of Directed Acyclic Graphs, and Additive Coloring (also known as Lucky Labeling). Let $D$ be a digraph and $f$ a labeling of its vertices with positive integers; denote by $S(v)$ the sum of labels over all neighbors of each vertex $v$. The labeling $f$ is called \emph{topological additive numbering} if $S(u) < S(v)$ for each arc $(u,v)$ of the digraph. The problem asks to find the minimum number $k$ for which $D$ has a topological additive numbering with labels belonging to $\{ 1, \ldots, k \}$, denoted by $η_t…
The problem of efficiently sampling from a set of (undirected, or directed) graphs with a given degree sequence has many applications. One approach to this problem uses a simple Markov chain, which we call the switch chain, to perform the sampling. The switch chain is known to be rapidly mixing for regular degree sequences, both in the undirected and directed setting. We prove that the switch chain for undirected graphs is rapidly mixing for any degree sequence with minimum degree at least 1 and with maximum degree $d_{\max}$ which satisfies $3\leq d_{\max}\leq \frac{1}{3}\, \sqrt{M}$, where $…
The zeroth-order general Randić index $R^{0}_{a}$ of a digraph $D$ is the sum of $(d^{+}_{v})^{a}+(d^{-}_{w})^{a}$ over all arcs $vw$ of $D$, where $a$, $d^{+}_{v}$ and $d^{-}_{w}$ are an arbitrary real number, the out-degree of the vertex $v$ and the in-degree of the vertex $w$, respectively. We determine maximum zeroth-order general Randić index of oriented trees, unicyclic and bicyclic graphs in terms of matching number and order in this paper.
