We construct smooth symplectic resolutions of the quotient of R^2 under some infinite discrete sub-group of GL_2(R) preserving a log-symplectic structure. This extends from algebraic geometry to smooth real differential geometry the Du Val symplectic resolution of C^2/G, with G \subset SL_2(C) a finite group. The first of these infinite groups is G=Z, identified to triangular matrices with spectrum {1}. Smooth functions on the quotient R^2/G come with a natural Poisson bracket, and R^2/Gis for an arbitrary k \geq 1 set-isomorphic to the real Du Val singular variety A_{2k} = {(x,y,z) \in R^3 , x^2 +y^2= z^{2k}}. We show that each one of the usual minimal resolutions of these Du Val varieties are symplectic resolutions of R^2/G. The same holds for G'=Z \rtimes Z/2Z (identified to triangular matrices with spectrum {\pm 1}), with the upper half of D_{2k+1} playing the role of A_{2k}.
We study symplectic deformation types of minimal symplectic fillings of links of quotient surface singularities. In particular, there are only finitely many symplectic deformation types for each quotient surface singularity.
We use symplectic cobordism, and the localization result of Ginzburg, Guillemin, and Karshon, to find a wall-crossing formula for the signature of regular symplectic quotients of Hamiltonian torus actions. The formula is recursive, depending ultimately on fixed point data. In the case of a circle action, we obtain a formula for the signature of singular quotients as well. We also show how formulas for the Poincare polynomial and the Euler characteristic (equivalent to those of Kirwan) can be expressed in the same recursive manner.
We provided two explicit formulas for the intersection cohomology (as a graded vector space with pairing) of the symplectic quotient by a circle in terms of the $S^1$ equivariant cohomology of the original symplectic manifold and the fixed point data. The key idea is the construction of a small resolution of the symplectic quotient.
Let $K$ be a compact group. For a symplectic quotient $M_λ$ of a compact Hamiltonian Kähler $K$-manifold, we show that the induced complex structure on $M_λ$ is locally invariant when the parameter $λ$ varies in $\mathrm{Lie}(K)^*$. To prove such a result, we take two different approaches: (i) by using the complex geometry properties of the symplectic implosion construction; (ii) by investigating the variation of GIT quotients.
Given a closed surface endowed with a volume form, we equip the space of compatible Riemannian structures with the structure of an infinite-dimensional symplectic manifold. We show that the natural action of the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms by push-forward has a group-valued momentum map that assigns to a Riemannian metric the canonical bundle. We then deduce that the Teichmüller space and the moduli space of Riemann surfaces can be realized as symplectic orbit reduced spaces.
Let $S^1$ act on a symplectic manifold in a Hamiltonian fashion with momentum map $Ψ$. Fix a value $a$ of $Ψ$. There is a question of whether the symplectic quotient at $a$ is diffeomorphic to the orbit space of some proper Lie group action. We prove under mild assumptions that this only occurs if the symplectic quotient is diffeomorphic to an effective orbifold. This, in turn, only occurs if $a$ is a regular value, or there is at most one positive weight or at most one negative weight.
We study the hard Lefschetz property on compact symplectic solvmanifolds, i.e., compact quotients $M=Γ\backslash G$ of a simply-connected solvable Lie group $G$ by a lattice $Γ$, admitting a symplectic structure.
In this paper, we consider the $V$-soliton equation which is a degenerate fully nonlinear equation introduced by La Nave and Tian in their work on Kähler-Ricci flow on symplectic quotients. One can apply the interpretation to study finite time singularities of the Kähler-Ricci flow. As in the case of Kähler-Einstein metrics, we can also reduce the $V$-soliton equation to a scalar equation on Kähler potentials, which is of Monge-Ampère type. We formulate some preliminary estimates for such a scalar equation on a compact Kähler manifold $M$.
Let $M$ be a symplectic manifold, equipped with a Hamiltonian action of a torus $T$. We give an explicit formula for the rational cohomology ring of the symplectic quotient $M//T$ in terms of the cohomology ring of $M$ and fixed point data. Under some restrictions, our formulas apply to integral cohomology. In certain cases these methods enable us to show that the cohomology of the reduced space is torsion-free.
Consider a compact prequantizable symplectic manifold M on which a compact Lie group G acts in a Hamiltonian fashion. The ``quantization commutes with reduction'' theorem asserts that the G-invariant part of the equivariant index of M is equal to the Riemann-Roch number of the symplectic quotient of M, provided the quotient is nonsingular. We extend this result to singular symplectic quotients, using partial desingularizations of the symplectic quotient to define its Riemann-Roch number. By similar methods we also compute multiplicities for the equivariant index of the dual of a prequantum bun…
We classify solvable Lie groups admitting left invariant symplectic half-flat structure. When the Lie group has a compact quotient by a lattice, we show that these structures provide solutions of supersymmetric equations of type IIA.
We present a construction (and classification) of certain invariant 2-forms on the real symplectic group. They are used to define a symplectic form on the quotient by a maximal torus and to "lift" a symplectic structure from a symplectic manifold to the bundle of frames. This is a by-product of a failed attempt to prove certain finiteness theorems for basic symplectic cohomologies. In the last part of the paper we include a valid proof.
Given a contact manifold $M_#$ together with a transversal infinitesimal automorphism $ξ$, we show that any local leaf space $M$ for the foliation determined by $ξ$ naturally carries a conformally symplectic (cs-) structure. Then we show that the Rumin complex on $M_#$ descends to a complex of differential operators on $M$, whose cohomology can be computed. Applying this construction locally, one obtains a complex intrinsically associated to any manifold endowed with a cs-structure, which recovers the generalization of the so-called Rumin-Seshadri complex to the conformally symplectic setting.…
We establish a connection between smooth symplectic resolutions and symplectic deformations of a (possibly singular) affine Poisson variety. In particular, let V be a finite-dimensional complex symplectic vector space and G\subset Sp(V) a finite subgroup. Our main result says that the so-called Calogero-Moser deformation of the orbifold V/G is, in an appropriate sense, a versal Poisson deformation. That enables us to determine the algebra structure on the rational cohomology H^*(X) of any smooth symplectic resolution X \to V/G (multiplicative McKay correspondence). We prove further that if G i…
In this paper, we first show an interpretation of the Kähler-Ricci flow on a manifold $X$ as an exact elliptic equation of Einstein type on a manifold $M$ of which $X$ is one of the (Kähler) symplectic reductions via a (non-trivial) torus action. There are plenty of such manifolds (e.g. any line bundle on $X$ will do). Such an equation is called $V$-soliton equation, which can be regarded as a generalization of Kähler-Einstein equations or Kähler-Ricci solitons. As in the case of Kähler-Einstein metrics, we can also reduce the $V$-soliton equation to a scalar equation on Kähler potentials, whi…
We generalize the hyperkaehler quotient construction to the situation where there is no group action preserving the hyperkaehler structure but for each complex structure there is an action of a complex group preserving the corresponding complex symplectic structure. Many (known and new) hyperkaehler manifolds arise as quotients in this setting. For example, all hyperkaehler structures on semisimple coadjoint orbits of a complex semisimple Lie group $G$ arise as such quotients of $T^*G$. The generalized Legendre transform construction of Lindstroem and Rocek is also explained in this framework.
Let $G/P$ be a generalized flag variety, where $G$ is a complex semisimple connected Lie group and $P\subset G$ a parabolic subgroup. Let also $X\subset G/P$ be a Schubert variety. We consider the canonical embedding of $X$ into a projective space, which is obtained by identifying $G/P$ with a coadjoint orbit of the compact Lie group $K$, where $G=K^{\mathbb C}$. The maximal torus $T$ of $K$ acts linearly on the projective space and it leaves $X$ invariant: let $Ψ: X \to {\rm Lie}(T)^*$ be the restriction of the moment map relative to the Fubini-Study symplectic form. By a theorem of Atiyah, $…
When a complex semisimple group $G$ acts holomorphically on a Kähler manifold $(X,ω)$ such that a maximal compact subgroup $K\subset G$ preserves the symplectic form $ω$, a basic result of symplectic geometry says that the corresponding categorical quotient $X/G$ can be identified with quotient of the zero-set of the moment map by the action of $K$. We extend this to the context of a semisimple group acting on a Sasakian manifold.
In this paper we determine conditions of existence of an induced Riemannian structure on the symplectic quotient of a symplectic and Riemannian manifold following the action of a Lie group acting upon it in a hamiltonian way with equivariant momentum mapping.
Diffeological and differential spaces are generalisations of smooth structures on manifolds. We show that the "intersection" of these two categories is isomorphic to Frölicher spaces, another generalisation of smooth structures. We then give examples of such spaces, as well as examples of diffeological and differential spaces that do not fall into this category. We apply the theory of diffeological spaces to differential forms on a geometric quotient of a compact Lie group. We show that the subcomplex of basic forms is isomorphic to the complex of diffeological forms on the geometric quotient.…
We prove that the Grothendieck-Springer simultaneous resolution viewed as a correspondence between the adjoint quotient of a Lie algebra and its maximal torus is Lagrangian in the sense of shifted symplectic structures. As Hamiltonian spaces can be interpreted as Lagrangians in the adjoint quotient, this allows one to reduce a Hamiltonian $G$-space to a Hamiltonian $H$-space where $H$ is the maximal torus of $G$. We show that this procedure coincides with an algebraic version of symplectic implosion of Guillemin, Jeffrey and Sjamaar. We explain how to obtain generalizations of this picture to …
Assume $(X, ω)$ is a compact symplectic manifold with a Hamiltonian compact Lie group action and the zero in the Lie algebra is a regular value of the moment map $μ$. We prove that a finite energy symplectic vortex exponentially converges to (un)twisted sectors of the symplectic reduction at cylinder ends whose metrics grow up at least cylindrically fast, without assuming the group action on the level set $μ^{-1}(0)$ is free. It generalizes the corresponding results by Ziltener [23, 24] under the free action assumption. The result of this paper is the first step in setting up the quotient morp…
We use the techniques of integration of Poisson manifolds into symplectic Lie groupoids to build symplectic resolutions (= desingularizations) of the closure of a symplectic leaf. More generally, we show how Lie groupoids can be used to lift singularities, in particular when one imposes a compatibility condition with an additional structure given by a multi-vector field.
We give a method to resolve 4-dimensional symplectic orbifolds making use of techniques from complex geometry and gluing of symplectic forms. We provide some examples to which the resolution method applies.
Recently V. Ginzburg proved that Calogero phase space is a coadjoint orbit for some infinite dimensional Lie algebra coming from noncommutative symplectic geometry. In this note we generalize this argument to specific quotient varieties of representations of (deformed) preprojective algebras. This result was also obtained independently by V. Ginzburg.
We study torus actions on symplectic manifolds with proper moment maps in the case that each reduced space is two-dimensional. We provide a complete set of invariants for such spaces. Our proof uses sheaves of groupoids of Hamiltonian spaces.
We introduce a method to resolve a symplectic orbifold into a smooth symplectic manifold. Then we study how the formality and the Lefschetz property of the symplectic resolution are compared with that of the symplectic orbifold. We also study the formality of the symplectic blow-up of a symplectic orbifold along symplectic submanifolds disjoint from the orbifold singularities. This allows us to construct the first example of a simply connected compact symplectic manifold of dimension 8 which satisfies the Lefschetz property but is not formal, therefore giving a counter-example to a conjecture …
We study noncommutative generalizations of such notions of the classical symplectic geometry as degenerate Poisson structure, Poisson submanifold and quotient manifold, symplectic foliation and symplectic leaf for associative Poisson algebras. We consider these structures for the case of the endomorphism algebra of a vector bundle, and give the full description of the family of Poisson structures for this algebra.
