Recently V. Ginzburg proved that Calogero phase space is a coadjoint orbit for some infinite dimensional Lie algebra coming from noncommutative symplectic geometry. In this note we generalize this argument to specific quotient varieties of representations of (deformed) preprojective algebras. This result was also obtained independently by V. Ginzburg.
In this note we prove that the moduli space of torsion-free modules of rank one over an Azumaya algebra on a K3-surface is an irreducible symplectic variety deformation equivalent to a Hilbert scheme of points on the K3-surface.
Raf Bocklandt and the author have proved in math.AG/0010030 that certain quotient varieties of representations of deformed preprojective algebras are coadjoint orbits for the necklace Lie algebra of the corresponding quiver. A conjectural ringtheoretical explanation of these results was given in terms of noncommutative smoothness in the sense of C. Procesi. In this paper we prove these conjectures. The main tool in the proof is the etale local description due to W. Crawley-Boevey in math.AG/0105247. Along the way we determine the smooth locus of the so called Marsden-Weinstein reductions for q…
A localization theorem for the cyclotomic rational Cherednik algebra $H_c=H_c((\mathbb{Z}/l)^n\rtimes \mathfrak{S}_n)$ over a field of positive characteristic has been proved by Bezrukavnikov, Finkelberg and Ginzburg. Localizations with different parameters give different $t$-structures on the derived category of coherent sheaves on the Hilbert scheme of points on a surface. In this short note, we concentrate on the comparison between different $t$-structures coming from different localizations. When $n=2$, we show an explicit construction of tilting bundles that generates these $t$-structures…
In this note, we initiate the systematic study of the Lie algebra structure of the necklace Lie algebra n of a free algebra in 2d variables. We begin by giving a description of n as an sp(2d)-module. Specializing to d = 1, we decompose n into a direct sum of highest weight modules for sl_2, the coefficients of which are given by a closed formula. Next, we observe that n has a nontrivial center, which we link through the center C of the trace ring of couples of generic 2x2 matrices to the Poisson center of S(sl_2). The Lie algebra structure of n induces a Poisson structure on C, the symplectic …
We develop a new framework for noncommutative differential geometry based on double derivations. This leads to the notion of moment map and of Hamiltonian reduction in noncommutative symplectic geometry. For any smooth associative algebra B, we define its noncommutative cotangent bundle T^*B, which is a basic example of noncommutative symplectic manifold. Applying Hamiltonian reduction to noncommutative cotangent bundles gives an interesting class of associative algebras, P=P(B), that includes preprojective algebras associated with quivers. Our formalism of noncommutative Hamiltonian reduction…
These Lectures are based on a course on noncommutative geometry given by the author in 2003 at the University of Chicago. The lectures contain some standard material, such as Poisson and Gerstenhaber algebras, deformations, Hochschild cohomology, Serre functors, etc. We also discuss many less known as well as some new results, in particular, noncommutative Chern-Weil theory, noncommutative symplectic geometry, noncommutative differential forms and double-tangent bundles.
We formulate a constructive theory of noncommutative Landau-Ginzburg models mirror to symplectic manifolds based on Lagrangian Floer theory. The construction comes with a natural functor from the Fukaya category to the category of matrix factorizations of the constructed Landau-Ginzburg model. As applications, it is applied to elliptic orbifolds, punctured Riemann surfaces and certain non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds to construct their mirrors and functors. In particular it recovers and strengthens several interesting results of Etingof-Ginzburg, Bocklandt and Smith, and gives a unified under…
Using techniques from the homotopy theory of derived categories and noncommutative algebraic geometry, we establish a general theory of derived microlocalization for quantum symplectic resolutions. In particular, our results yield a new proof of derived Beilinson-Bernstein localization and a derived version of the more recent microlocalization theorems of Gordon-Stafford and Kashiwara-Rouquier as special cases. We also deduce a new derived microlocalization result linking cyclotomic rational Cherednik algebras with quantized Hilbert schemes of points on minimal resolutions of cyclic quotient s…
This is a noncommutative-geometric study of the semiclassical dynamics of finite topological D-brane systems. Starting from the formulation in terms of A -infinity categories, I show that such systems can be described by the noncommutative symplectic supergeometry of Z2-graded quivers, and give a synthetic formulation of the boundary part of the generalized WDVV equations. In particular, a faithful generating function for integrated correlators on the disk can be constructed as a linear combination of quiver necklaces, i.e. a function on the noncommutative symplectic superspace defined by the …
In this paper we show that the homology of a certain natural compactification of the moduli space, introduced by Kontsevich in his study of Witten's conjectures, can be described completely algebraically as the homology of a certain differential graded Lie algebra. This two-parameter family is constructed by using a Lie cobracket on the space of noncommutative 0-forms, a structure which corresponds to pinching simple closed curves on a Riemann surface, to deform the noncommutative symplectic geometry described by Kontsevich in his subsequent papers.
We consider D-branes in string theory and address the issue of how to describe them mathematically as a fundamental object (as opposed to a solitonic object) of string theory in the realm in differential and symplectic geometry. The notion of continuous maps, $k$-times differentiable maps, and smooth maps from an Azumaya/matrix manifold with a fundamental module to a (commutative) real manifold $Y$ is developed. Such maps are meant to describe D-branes or matrix branes in string theory when these branes are light and soft with only small enough or even zero brane-tension. When $Y$ is a symplec…
We introduce a geometric realization of noncommutative singularity resolutions. To do this, we first present a new conjectural method of obtaining conventional resolutions using coordinate rings of matrix-valued functions. We verify this conjecture for all cyclic quotient surface singularities, the Kleinian D_n and E_6 surface singularities, the conifold singularity, and a non-isolated singularity, using appropriate quiver algebras. This conjecture provides a possible new generalization of the classical McKay correspondence. Then, using symplectic reduction within these rings, we obtain new, n…
Let $G$ be a finite group and $\Y$ a $G$-gerbe over an orbifold $\B$. A disconnected orbifold $\hat{\Y}$ and a flat U(1)-gerbe $c$ on $\hat{\Y}$ is canonically constructed from $\Y$. Motivated by a proposal in physics, we study a mathematical duality between the geometry of the $G$-gerbe $\Y$ and the geometry of $\hat{\Y}$ {\em twisted by} $c$. We prove several results verifying this duality in the contexts of noncommutative geometry and symplectic topology. In particular, we prove that the category of sheaves on $\Y$ is equivalent to the category of $c$-twisted sheaves on $\hat{\Y}$. When $\Y…
A categorical formalism is introduced for studying various features of the symplectic geometry of Lefschetz fibrations and the algebraic geometry of Tyurin degenerations. This approach is informed by homological mirror symmetry, derived noncommutative geometry, and the theory of Fukaya categories with coefficients in a perverse Schober. The main technical results include (i) a comparison between the notion of relative Calabi-Yau structures and a certain refinement of the notion of a spherical functor, (ii) a local-to-global gluing principle for constructing Calabi-Yau structures, and (iii) the…
We explore the connection between $K3$ categories and 0-cycles on holomorphic symplectic varieties. In this paper, we focus on Kuznetsov's noncommutative $K3$ category associated to a nonsingular cubic 4-fold. By introducing a filtration on the $\mathrm{CH}_1$-group of a cubic 4-fold $Y$, we conjecture a sheaf/cycle correspondence for the associated $K3$ category $\mathcal{A}_Y$. This is a noncommutative analog of O'Grady's conjecture concerning derived categories of $K3$ surfaces. We study instances of our conjecture involving rational curves in cubic 4-folds, and verify the conjecture for sh…
In this paper, we develop a differential-graded symplectic (Batalin-Vilkovisky) version of the framework of Crawley-Boevey, Etingof and Ginzburg on noncommutative differential geometry based on double derivations to construct non-commutative analogues of the Courant algebroids introduced by Liu, Weinstein and Xu. Adapting geometric constructions of Ševera and Roytenberg for (commutative) graded symplectic supermanifolds, we express the BRST charge, given in our framework by a `homological double derivation', in terms of Van den Bergh's double Poisson algebras for graded bi-symplectic non-commu…
We construct projective moduli spaces for torsion-free sheaves on noncommutative projective planes. These moduli spaces vary smoothly in the parameters describing the noncommutative plane and have good properties analogous to those of moduli spaces of sheaves over the usual (commutative) projective plane P^2. The generic noncommutative plane corresponds to the Sklyanin algebra S constructed from an automorphism sigma of infinite order on an elliptic curve E < P^2. In this case, the fine moduli space of line bundles over S with first Chern class zero and Euler characteristic (1-n) provides a sy…
To every Poisson algebraic variety X over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, we canonically attach a right D-module M(X) on X. If X is affine, solutions of M(X) in the space of algebraic distributions on X are Poisson traces on X, i.e., distributions invariant under Hamiltonian flows. When X has finitely many symplectic leaves, we prove that M(X) is holonomic. Thus, when X is affine and has finitely many symplectic leaves, the space of Poisson traces on X is finite-dimensional. As an application, we deduce that noncommutative filtered algebras whose associated graded algebra…
We introduce some new algebraic structures arising naturally in the geometry of Calabi-Yau manifolds and mirror symmetry. We give a universal construction of Calabi-Yau algebras in terms of a noncommutative symplectic DG algebra resolution. In dimension 3, the resolution is determined by a noncommutative potential. Representation varieties of the Calabi-Yau algebra are intimately related to the set of critical points, and to the sheaf of vanishing cycles of the potential. Numerical invariants, like ranks of cyclic homology groups, are expected to be given by `matrix integrals' over representat…
