We construct a dynamical quantization for contact manifolds in terms of a flat connection acting on a Hilbert tractor bundle. We show that this contact quantization, which is independent of the choice of contact form, can be obtained by quantizing the Reeb dynamics of an ambient strict contact manifold equivariantly with respect to an R+-action. The contact quantization further determines a certain contact tractor connection whose parallel sections determine a distinguished choice of Reeb dynamics and their quantization. This relationship relies on tractor constructions from parabolic geometries and mirrors the tight relationship between Einstein metrics and conformal geometries. Finally, we construct in detail the dynamical quantization of the unique tight contact structure on the 3-sphere, where the Holstein-Primakoff transformation makes a surprising appearance.
The physical variables of classical thermodynamics occur in conjugate pairs such as pressure/volume, entropy/temperature, chemical potential/particle number. Nevertheless, and unlike in classical mechanics, there are an odd number of such thermodynamic co-ordinates. We review the formulation of thermodynamics and geometrical optics in terms of contact geometry. The Lagrange bracket provides a generalization of canonical commutation relations. Then we explore the quantization of this algebra by analogy to the quantization of mechanics. The quantum contact algebra is associative, but the constan…
Quantization together with quantum dynamics can be simultaneously formulated as the problem of finding an appropriate flat connection on a Hilbert bundle over a contact manifold. Contact geometry treats time, generalized positions and momenta as points on an underlying phase-spacetime and reduces classical mechanics to contact topology. Contact quantization describes quantum dynamics in terms of parallel transport for a flat connection; the ultimate goal being to also handle quantum systems in terms of contact topology. Our main result is a proof of local, formal gauge equivalence for a broad …
We extend Fedosov deformation quantization to general contact manifolds. Unlike the case of symplectic manifolds, not every classical observable on a contact manifold is generally quantized. On examination of possible obstructions to quantization, we obtain some new invariants of contact manifolds.
Suppose that $(M,E)$ is a compact contact manifold, and that a compact Lie group $G$ acts on $M$ transverse to the contact distribution $E$. In an earlier paper, we defined a $G$-transversally elliptic Dirac operator $\dirac$, constructed using a Hermitian metric $h$ and connection $\nabla$ on the symplectic vector bundle $E\rightarrow M$, whose equivariant index is well-defined as a generalized function on $G$, and gave a formula for its index. By analogy with the geometric quantization of symplectic manifolds, the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded Hilbert space $Q(M)=\ker \dirac \oplus \ker \dirac^{*}$ …
In this paper we exploit the use of symmetries of a physical system so as to characterize algebraically the corresponding solution manifold by means of Noether invariants. This constitutes a necessary preliminary step towards the correct quantization in non-linear cases, where the success of Canonical Quantization is not guaranteed in general. To achieve this task "point symmetries" of the Lagrangian are generally not enough, and the notion of contact transformations is in order: the solution manifold can not be in general parametrized by means of Noether invariants associated with basic point…
We consider the supercircle $S^{1|1}$ equipped with the standard contact structure. The conformal Lie superalgebra K(1) acts on $S^{1|1}$ as the Lie superalgebra of contact vector fields; it contains the Möbius superalgebra $osp(1|2)$. We study the space of linear differential operators on weighted densities as a module over $osp(1|2)$. We introduce the canonical isomorphism between this space and the corresponding space of symbols and find interesting resonant cases where such an isomorphism does not exist.
It is shown how, in the framework of deformation quantization, the quantum dynamical entropy may be simply defined as the Kolmogorov-Sinai's entropy of the quantum flow.
Some cohomology classes associated with an ideal in a Lie algebra, a Poisson structure on the basic functions algebra of contact structure, its Poisson cohomology and geometric (pre)quantization are considered from the algebraic point of view.
A generalization of canonical quantization which maps a dynamical operator to a dynamical superoperator is suggested. Weyl quantization of dynamical operator, which cannot be represented as Poisson bracket with some function, is considered. The usual Weyl quantization of observables is a specific case of suggested quantization. This approach allows to define consistent quantization procedure for non-Hamiltonian and dissipative systems. Examples of the harmonic oscillator with friction (generalized Lorenz-Rossler-Leipnik-Newton equation), the Fokker-Planck-type system and Lorenz-type system are…
This paper is the next step of an ambitious program to develop conformally equivariant quantization on supermanifolds. This problem was considered so far in (super)dimensions 1 and 1|1. We will show that the case of several odd variables is much more difficult. We consider the supercircle $S^{1|2}$ equipped with the standard contact structure. The conformal Lie superalgebra $\mathcal{K}(2)$ of contact vector fields on $S^{1|2}$ contains the Lie superalgebra osp(2|2). We study the spaces of linear differential operators on the spaces of weighted densities as modules over osp(2|2). We prove that…
In this paper we quantize symplectic dynamical r-matrices over a possibly nonabelian base. The proof is based on the fact that the existence of a star-product with a nice property (called strong invariance) is sufficient for the existence of a quantization. We also classify such quantizations and prove a quantum analogue of the classical composition formula for coboundary dynamical r-matrices.
We analyze the behaviour of two quantum dynamical entropies in connection with the classical limit. Using strongly chaotic classical dynamical systems as models (Arnold Cat Maps and Sawtooth Maps), we also propose a discretization procedure that resembles quantization; even in this case, studies of quantum dynamical entropy production are carried out and the connection with the continuous limit is explored. In both case (quantization and discretization) the entropy production converge to the Kolmogorov-Sinai invariant on time-scales that are logarithmic in the quantization (discretization) par…
A long-standing problem in quantum gravity and cosmology is the quantization of systems in which time evolution is generated by a constraint that must vanish on solutions. Here, an algebraic formulation of this problem is presented, together with new structures and results, which show that specific conditions need to be satisfied in order for well-defined evolution to be possible.
The quantization problem for the trace-bracket algebra, derived from double Poisson brackets, is discussed. We obtain a generalization of the boundary YBE (or so-called ABCD-algebra) for the quantization of quadratic trace-brackets. A dynamical deformation is proposed on the lines of Gervais-Neveu-Felder dynamical quantum algebras.
We consider spin system defined on the coadjoint orbit with noncompact symmetry and investigate the quantization. Classical spin with noncompact SU(N,1) symmetry is first formulated as a dynamical system and the constraint analysis is performed to reduce the system from the group space to the coadjoint orbit which is a symplectic manifold with Kahler structure. We achieve this by solving the constraint directly. It is shown that the dynamical variables describing the noncompact spins can be written as functions of canonically conjugate variables and canonical quantization is possible on the re…
We give a mathematical definition of dynamical evolution in quantum field theory, including evolution on space-like surfaces, and show its relationship with the axiomatic and perturbative approaches to QFT.
We present a complete theory of higher-order autonomous contact mechanics, which allows us to describe higher-order dynamical systems with dissipation. The essential tools for the theory are the extended higher-order tangent bundles, ${\rm T}^kQ\times{\mathbb R}$, whose geometric structures are previously introduced in order to state the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms for these kinds of systems, including their variational formulation. The variational principle, the contact forms, and the geometric dynamical equations are obtained by using those structures and generalizing the standard …
This paper provides a systematic study of gauge symmetries in the dynamical fuzzy spectral triple models for quantum gravity that have been proposed by Barrett and collaborators. We develop both the classical and the perturbative quantum BV formalism for these models, which in particular leads to an explicit homological construction of the perturbative quantum correlation functions. We show that the relevance of ghost and antifield contributions to such correlation functions depends strongly on the background Dirac operator $D_0$ around which one perturbs, and in particular on the amount of ga…
In this paper a class of dynamical systems describing expectation variables exactly derived from continuous-time master equations is introduced and studied from the viewpoint of differential geometry, where such master equations consist of a set of appropriately chosen Markov kernels. To geometrize such dynamical systems for expectation variables, information geometry is used for expressing equilibrium states, and contact geometry is used for nonequilibrium states. Here time-developments of the expectation variables are identified with contact Hamiltonian vector fields on a contact manifold. A…
For a system in contact with several reservoirs $r$ at different inverse-temperatures $β_r$, we describe how the Markov jump dynamics with the generalized detailed balance condition can be analyzed via a statistical physics approach of dynamical trajectories $[{\cal C}(t)]_{0 \leq t \leq T} $ over a long time interval $T \to + \infty$. The relevant intensive variables are the time-empirical density $ρ(\cal C)$, that measures the fractions of time spent in the various configurations ${\cal C}$, and the time-empirical jump densities $k_r ({\cal C', \cal C}) $, that measure the frequencies of jum…
