We give a mathematical definition of dynamical evolution in quantum field theory, including evolution on space-like surfaces, and show its relationship with the axiomatic and perturbative approaches to QFT.
We construct explicit deformation quantizations of the noncompact complex surfaces $Z_k := \operatorname{Tot} (\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^1} (-k))$ and describe their effect on moduli spaces of vector bundles and instanton moduli spaces. We introduce the concept of rebel instantons, as being those which react badly to some quantizations, misbehaving by shooting off extra families of noncommutative instantons. We then show that the quantum instanton moduli space can be viewed as the étale space of a constructible sheaf over the classical instanton moduli space with support on rebel instantons.
We review known results on the relations between conformal field theory, the quantization of moduli spaces of flat PSL(2,R)-connections on Riemann surfaces, and the quantum Teichmueller theory.
Yves Colin de Verdiere's quantization formalism of magnetic bottles on Riemann surfaces of non null genus is shown to be affected, owing to the Homotopy Superselection Rule, by the phenomenon of the existence of multiple inequivalent quantizations mathematically analogous to the phenomenon of the existence of multiple inequivalent prequantizations of a multiply-connected symplectic manifold in the framework of Souriau-Kostant's Geometric Quantization.
In this article we calculate the dimension of the Hilbert space of Kahler quantization of the moduli space of vortices on a Riemann surface. This dimension is given by the holomorphic Euler characteristic of the quantum line bundle.
In the framework of a mesoscopical model for dielectric media we provide an analytical description for the electromagnetic field confined in a cylindrical cavity containing a finite dielectric sample. This system is apted to simulate the electromagnetic field in a optic fiber, in which two different regions, a vacuum region and a dielectric one, appear. A complete description for the scattering basis is introduced, together with field quantization and the two-point function. Furthermore, we also determine soliton-like solutions in the dielectric, propagating in the sample of nonlinear dielectr…
For a particle moves on a 2D surface f(x)=0 embedded in 3D Euclidean space, the geometric momentum and potential are simultaneously admissible within the Dirac canonical quantization scheme for constrained motion. In our approach, not the full scheme but the symmetries indicated by classical brackets [x,H]_{D} and [p,H]_{D} in addition to the fundamental ones [x,x]_{D}, [x,p]_{D} and [p,p]_{D} are utilized, where the subscript D stands for the Dirac bracket. The generalized centripetal force law p=[p,H]_{D} for particle on the 2D surface play the key role, and there is no simple relationship b…
Geometric quantization of the moduli space of the Self-duality equations on a Riemann surface
A detailed Dirac's and Faddeev-Jackiw quantization of Bonzom-Livine model describing gravity in three dimensions is performed. The full structure of the constraints, the gauge transformations and the generalized Faddeev-Jackiw brackets are found. In addition, we show that the Faddeev-Jackiw and Dirac's brackets coincide to each other. Finally we discuss some remarks and prospects.
The algebraic method of singular reduction is applied for non regular group action on manifolds which provides singular symplectic spaces. The problem of deformation quantization of the singular surfaces is the focus. For some examples of singular Poisson spaces the deformation quantization is explicitly constructed. In is shown that for the flat phase space with the classical moment map and the orthogonal group action the deformation quantization converges for the entire arguments of exponential type.
We propose an alternative method for Feynman path integrals on compact Riemannian manifolds. Our method employs action integrals along the shortest paths. In the case of rank 1 locally symmetric Riemannian manifolds, we prove the strong convergence of time slicing products of oscillatory integrals for low energy functions. Moreover, the strong limit includes Dewitt curvature $R/6$, where $R$ denotes the scalar curvature of a Riemannian manifold.
This is the first of a series of two papers devoted to the partition function realization of Wilson surfaces in strict higher gauge theory. A higher version of the Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau theory of coadjoint orbits is presented based on the derived geometric framework, which has shown its usefulness in 4--dimensional higher Chern--Simons theory. An original notion of derived coadjoint orbit is put forward. A theory of derived unitary line bundles and Poisson structures on regular derived orbits is constructed. The proper derived counterpart of the Bohr--Sommerfeld quantization condition is th…
For particles constrained on a curved surface, how to perform quantization within Dirac's canonical quantization scheme is a long-standing problem. On one hand, Dirac stressed that the Cartesian coordinate system has fundamental importance in passing from the classical Hamiltonian to its quantum mechanical form while preserving the classical algebraic structure between positions, momenta and Hamiltonian to the extent possible. On the other, on the curved surface, we have no exact Cartesian coordinate system within intrinsic geometry. These two facts imply that the three-dimensional Euclidean s…
We consider the quasi-static problem governing the localized surface plasmon modes and permittivity eigenvalues $ε$ of smooth, arbitrarily shaped, axisymmetric inclusions. We develop an asymptotic theory for the dense part of the spectrum, i.e., close to the accumulation value $ε=-1$ at which a flat interface supports surface plasmons; in this regime, the field oscillates rapidly along the surface and decays exponentially away from it on a comparable scale. With $τ=-(ε+1)$ as the small parameter, we develop a surface-ray description of the eigenfunctions in a narrow boundary layer about the in…
Motivated by the surface of topological insulators, the Dirac anomaly's discontinuous dependence on sign of the mass, $m/|m|$, is investigated on closed topologies when mass terms are weak or only partially cover the surface. It is found that, unlike the massive Dirac theory on an infinite plane, there is a smoothly decreasing current when the mass region is not infinite; also, a massive finite region fails to exhibit a Hall current edge--exerting an extended proximity effect, which can, however, be uniformly small--and oppositely orientated Hall phases are fully quantized while accompanied by…
Combination of a construction of unambiguous quantum conditions out of the conventional one and a simultaneous quantization of the positions, momenta, angular momenta and Hamiltonian leads to the geometric potential given by the so-called thin-lay quantization.
It is known that Wolf constructed a lot of examples of Super Calabi-Yau twistor spaces. We would like to introduce super Poisson structures on them via super twistor double fibrations. Moreover we define the structure of deformation quantization for such super Poisson manifolds.
Presented is a primary step towards quantization of infinitesimal rigid body moving in a two-dimensional manifold. The special stress is laid on spaces of constant curvature like the two-dimensional sphere and pseudosphere (Lobatschevski space). Also two-dimensional torus is briefly discussed as an interesting algebraic manifold.
In this paper we first show that on projective manifolds (M, ω), there are holomorphic determinant bundles (in the sense of Knusden-Mumford used by Bismut, Gillet, Soule) which play the role of the geometric quantum bundle, namely one for each input data of a Hermitian holomorphic line bundle L of non-trivial Chern class on a compact Kahler manifold Z (with Todd genus non-zero) and a choice of a geometric quantization of (M, ω). Next we further study the generalization of the vortex equations on Kahler 4-manifold which has been studied earlier by Bradlow. We show that when the Kahler 4-manifol…
We study a nonlinear stochastic heat equation forced by a space-time white noise on closed surfaces, with nonlinearity $e^{βu}$. This equation corresponds to the stochastic quantization of the Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) measure. (i) We first revisit the construction of the LQG measure in Liouville conformal field theory (LCFT) in the $L^2$ regime $0<β<\sqrt{2}$. This uniformizes in this regime the approaches of David-Kupiainen-Rhodes-Vargas (2016), David-Rhodes-Vargas (2016) and Guillarmou-Rhodes-Vargas (2019) which treated the case of a closed surface with genus 0, 1 and $> 1$ respective…
An explicit construction of a pre-quantum line bundle for the moduli space of flat G-bundles over a Riemann surface is given, where G is any non-simply connected compact simple Lie group. This work helps to explain a curious coincidence previously observed between Toledano-Laredo's work classifying central extensions of loop groups LG and the author's previous work on the obstruction to pre-quantization of the moduli space of flat G-bundles.
We present the correspondence between Lax integrable systems with spectral parameter on a Riemann surface, and Conformal Field Theories, in quite general set-up suggested earlier by the author. This correspondence turns out to give a prequantization of the integrable systems in question.
