We extend twisted inner fluctuations to twisted spectral triples that do not meet the twisted first-order condition, following what has been done in [6] for the non-twisted case. We find a similar non-linear term in the fluctuation, and work out the twisted version of the semi-group of inner perturbations.
After a brief review on the applications of twisted spectral triples to physics, we adapt to the twisted case the notion of real part of a spectral triple. In particular, when one twists a usual spectral triple by its grading, we show that - depending on the $KO$ dimension - the real part is either twisted as well, or is the intersection of the initial algebra with its opposite. We illustrate this result with the spectral triple of the standard model.
Lowest dimensional spectral triples with twisted reality condition over the function algebra on two points are discussed. The gauge perturbations (fluctuations), chiral gauge perturbations, conformal rescalings, and permutation of the two points are presented.
We extend to twisted spectral triples the fluctuations of the metric, as well as their gauge transformations. The former are bounded perturbations of the Dirac operator that arise when a spectral triple is exported between Morita equivalent algebras; the later are obtained by the action of the unitary endomorphisms of the module implementing the Morita equivalence. It is shown that the twisted gauged Dirac operators, previously introduced to generate an extra scalar field in the spectral description of the standard model of elementary particles, in fact follow from Morita equivalence between t…
Twisted real structures are well-motivated as a way to implement the conformal transformation of a Dirac operator for a real spectral triple without needing to twist the noncommutative 1-forms. We study the coupling of spectral triples with twisted real structures to gauge fields, adopting Morita equivalence via modules and bimodules as a guiding principle and paying special attention to modifications to the inner fluctuations of the Dirac operator. In particular, we analyse the twisted first-order condition as a possible alternative to abandoning the first-order condition in order to go beyon…
We study the twisted reality condition of Math. Phys. Anal. Geom. 19 (2016),no. 3, Art. 16, for spectral triples, in particular with respect to the product and the commutant. Motivated by this we present the procedure, which allows one to "untwist" the twisted spectral triples studied in Lett. Math. Phys. 106 (2016), 1499-1530. We also relate this construction to conformally rescaled real twisted spectral triples, and discuss the untwisting of the `minimal twist' procedure of an even spectral triple.
We propose a new approach to study coideal algebras. It is well-known that Manin triples (or equivalently Lie bi-algebra structures) are the requirement to deform Lie algebras and to obtain quantum groups. In this paper, introducing some particular automorphisms of Manin triples, we define new structures that we call Lie bi-ideal structures. A link with coisotropic subalgebras is explained. We show that their deformation provide coideal algebras. As examples, we recover from our general construction the twisted Yangians, the q-Onsager algebra and the augmented q-Onsager algebra. As an importan…
Motivated by examples obtained from conformal deformations of spectral triples and a spectral triple construction on quantum cones we propose a new twisted reality condition for the Dirac operator.
We study the "quantized calculus" corresponding to the algebraic ideas related to "twisted cyclic cohomology" introduced in [KMT]. With very similar definitions and techniques as those used in [jlo], we define and study "twisted entire cyclic cohomology" and the "twisted Chern character" associated with an appropriate operator-theoretic data called "twisted spectral data", which consists of a spectral triple in the conventional sense of noncommutative geometry ([Con]) and an additional positive operator having specified properties. Furthermore, it is shown that given a spectral triple (in the …
We show how twisting the spectral triple of the Standard Model of elementary particles naturally yields the Krein space associated with the Lorentzian signature of spacetime. We discuss the associated spectral action, both for fermions and bosons. What emerges is a tight link between twist and Wick rotation.
In the noncommutative geometry approach to the standard model we discuss the possibility to derive the extra scalar field sv- initially suggested by particle physicist to stabilize the electroweak vacuum - from a "grand algebra" that contains the usual standard model algebra. We introduce the Connes-Moscovici twisted spectral triples for the Grand Symmetry model, to cure a technical problem, that is the appearance, together with the field sv, of unbounded vectorial terms. The twist makes these terms bounded, and also permits to understand the breaking making the computation of the Higgs mass c…
This is a review of recent results regarding the application of Connes' noncommutative geometry to the Standard Model, and beyond. By twisting (in the sense of Connes-Moscovici) the spectral triple of the Standard Model, one does not only get an extra scalar field which stabilises the electroweak vacuum, but also an unexpected 1-form field. By computing the fermionic action, we show how this field induces a transition from the Euclidean to the Lorentzian signature. Hints on a twisted version of the spectral action are also briefly mentioned.
Grand symmetry models in noncommutative geometry have been introduced to explain how to generate minimally (i.e. without adding new fermions) an extra scalar field beyond the standard model, which both stabilizes the electroweak vacuum and makes the computation of the mass of the Higgs compatible with its experimental value. In this paper, we use Connes-Moscovici twisted spectral triples to cure a technical problem of the grand symmetry, that is the appearance together with the extra scalar field of unbounded vectorial terms. The twist makes these terms bounded and - thanks to a twisted versio…
We construct new families of spectral triples over quantum spheres, with a particular attention focused on the standard Podles quantum sphere and twisted Dirac operators.
An interesting feature of the finite-dimensional real spectral triple (A,H,D,J) of the Standard Model is that it satisfies a ``second-order'' condition: conjugation by J maps the Clifford algebra Cl_D(A) into its commutant, which in fact is isomorphic to the Clifford algebra itself (H is a self-Morita equivalence Cl_D(A)-bimodule). This resembles a property of the canonical spectral triple of a closed oriented Riemannian manifold: there is a dense subspace of H which is a self-Morita equivalence Cl_D(A)-bimodule. In this paper we argue that on manifolds, in order for the self-Morita equivalenc…
We systematically investigate ways to twist a real spectral triple via an algebra automorphism and in particular, we naturally define a twisted partner for any real graded spectral triple. Among other things we investigate consequences of the twisting on the fluctuations of the metric and possible applications to the spectral approach to the standard model of particle physics.
We present a spectral triple for $κ$-Minkowski space in two dimensions. Starting from an algebra naturally associated to this space, a Hilbert space is built using a weight which is invariant under the $κ$-Poincaré algebra. The weight satisfies a KMS condition and its associated modular operator plays an important role in the construction. This forces us to introduce two ingredients which have a modular flavor: the first is a twisted commutator, used to obtain a boundedness condition for the Dirac operator, the second is a weight replacing the usual operator trace, used to measure the growth o…
We refine the reconstruction theorem for almost-commutative spectral triples to a result for real almost-commutative spectral triples, clarifying, in the process, both concrete and abstract definitions of real commutative and almost-commutative spectral triples. In particular, we find that a real almost-commutative spectral triple algebraically encodes the commutative *-algebra of the base manifold in a canonical way, and that a compact oriented Riemannian manifold admits real (almost-)commutative spectral triples of arbitrary KO-dimension. Moreover, we define a notion of smooth family of real…
We propose an expansion of the definition of almost-commutative spectral triple that accommodates non-trivial fibrations and is stable under inner fluctuation of the metric, and then prove a reconstruction theorem for almost-commutative spectral triples under this definition as a simple consequence of Connes's reconstruction theorem for commutative spectral triples. Along the way, we weaken the orientability hypothesis in the reconstruction theorem for commutative spectral triples, and following Chakraborty and Mathai, prove a number of results concerning the stability of properties of spectra…
We generalize the notion of spectral triple with reality structure to spectral triples with multitwisted real structure, the class of which is closed under the tensor product composition. In particular, we introduce a multitwisted order one condition (characterizing the Dirac operators as an analogue of first-order differential operator). This provides a unified description of the known examples, which include rescaled triples with the conformal factor from the commutant of the algebra and (on the algebraic level) triples on quantum disc and on quantum cone, that satisfy twisted first order co…
Starting from the formulation of pseudo-Riemannian generalisation of real spectral triples we develop the data of geometries over finite-dimensional algebras with indefinite metric and their Riemannian parts. We then discuss the Standard Model spectral triple in this formalism and interpret the physical symmetry preserving the lepton number as a shadow of a finite pseudo-Riemannian structure.
We show how the twisting of spectral triples induces a transition from an euclidean to a lorentzian noncommutative geometry, at the level of the fermionic action. More specifically, we compute the fermionic action for the twisting of a closed euclidean manifold, then that of a two-sheet euclidean manifold, and finally the twisting of the spectral triple of electrodynamics in euclidean signature. We obtain the Weyl and the Dirac equations in lorentzian signature (and in the temporal gauge). The twisted fermionic action is then shown to be invariant under an action of the Lorentz group. This per…
A regular spectral triple is proposed for a two-dimensional $κ$-deformation. It is based on the naturally associated affine group $G$, a smooth subalgebra of $C^*(G)$, and an operator $\caD$ defined by two derivations on this subalgebra. While $\caD$ has metric dimension two, the spectral dimension of the triple is one. This bypasses an obstruction described in \cite{IochMassSchu11a} on existence of finitely-summable spectral triples for a compactified $κ$-deformation.
We construct explicitly the symmetries of the isospectral deformations as twists of Lie algebras and demonstrate that they are isometries of the deformed spectral triples.
We classify and construct all real spectral triples over noncommutative Bieberbach manifolds, which are restrictions of irreducible real equivariant spectral triple over the noncommutative three-torus. We show that in the classical case the constructed geometries correspond exactly to spin structures over Bieberbach manifolds and the Dirac operators constructed for a flat metric.
In general, Morita equivalence of spectral triples need not be a symmetric relation. In this paper, we show that Morita equivalence of spectral triples is an equivalence relation for equivariant torus spectral triples.
Using the Chamseddine--Connes approach of the noncommutative action on spectral triples, we show that there are no tadpoles of any order for compact spin manifolds without boundary, and also consider a case of a chiral boundary condition. Using pseudodifferential techniques, we track zero terms in spectral actions.
Forming the product of two geometric spaces is one of the most basic operations in geometry, but in the spectral-triple formulation of non-commutative geometry, the standard prescription for taking the product of two real spectral triples is problematic: among other drawbacks, it is non-commutative, non-associative, does not transform properly under unitaries, and often fails to define a proper spectral triple. In this paper, we explain that these various problems result from using the ungraded tensor product; by switching to the graded tensor product, we obtain a new prescription where all of…
A new construction of a semifinite spectral triple on an algebra of holonomy loops is presented. The construction is canonically associated to quantum gravity and is an alternative version of the spectral triple presented in hep-th/08021784.
We exhibit some series of discrete spectral triples converging to the canonical spectral triple of a finite dimensional manifold. Thus the non-go theorem of Goekeler and Schuecker is reasonably bypassed.
We investigate Dirichlet Laplacian in a straight twisted tube of a non-circular cross section, in particular, its discrete spectrum coming from a local slowdown of the twist. We prove a Lieb-Thirring-type estimate for the spectral moments and present two examples illustrating how the bound depends on the tube cross section.
We study almost real spectral triples on quantum lens spaces, as orbit spaces of free actions of cyclic groups on the spectral geometry on the quantum group $SU_q(2)$. These spectral triples are given by weakening some of the conditions of a real spectral triple. We classify the irreducible almost real spectral triples on quantum lens spaces and we study unitary equivalences of such quantum lens spaces. Applying a useful characterization of principal $U(1)$-fibrations in noncommutative geometry, we show that all such quantum lens spaces are principal $U(1)$-fibrations over quantum teardrops.
For a unital C*-algebra A, which is equipped with a spectral triple and an extension T of A by the compacts, we construct a family of spectral triples associated to T and depending on the two positive parameters (s,t). Using Rieffel's notation of quantum Gromov-Hausdorff distance between compact quantum metric spaces it is possible to define a metric on this family of spectral triples, and we show that the distance between a pair of spectral triples varies continuously with respect to the parameters. It turns out that a spectral triple associated to the unitarization of the algebra of compact …
In this paper we show that under suitable conditions on their Fourier--Bohr coefficients, the twisted Eberlein convolution of a measure with pure point diffraction spectra and a measure with continuous diffraction spectra is zero. In particular, the diffraction spectrum of a linear combinations of the two measures is simply the linear combinations of the two diffraction spectra with absolute value square coefficients.
We study a noncommutative analogue of a spacetime foliated by spacelike hypersurfaces, in both Riemannian and Lorentzian signatures. First, in the classical commutative case, we show that the canonical Dirac operator on the total spacetime can be reconstructed from the family of Dirac operators on the hypersurfaces. Second, in the noncommutative case, the same construction continues to make sense for an abstract family of spectral triples. In the case of Riemannian signature, we prove that the construction yields in fact a spectral triple, which we call a product spectral triple. In the case o…
The notion of spectral localizer is extended to pairings with semifinite spectral triples. By a spectral flow argument, any semifinite index pairing is shown to be equal to the signature of the spectral localizer. As an application, a formula for the weak invariants of topological insulators is derived. This provides a new approach to their numerical evaluation.
We study two ways of summing an infinite family of noncommutative spectral triples. First, we propose a definition of the integration of spectral triples and give an example using algebras of Toeplitz operators acting on weighted Bergman spaces over the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^n$. Secondly, we construct a spectral triple associated to a general polygonal self-similar set in $\mathbb{C}$ using algebras of Toeplitz operators on Hardy spaces. In this case, we show that we can recover the Hausdorff dimension of the fractal set.
We present examples of equivariant noncommutative Lorentzian spectral geometries. The equivariance with respect to a compact isometry group (or quantum group) allows to construct the algebraic data of a version of spectral triple geometry adapted to the situation of an indefinite metric. The spectrum of the equivariant Dirac operator is calculated.
Fuzzy tori are finite dimensional C*-algebras endowed with an appropriate notion of noncommutative geometry inherited from an ergodic action of a finite closed subgroup of the torus, which are meant as finite dimensional approximations of tori and more generally, quantum tori. A mean to specify the geometry of a noncommutative space is by constructing over it a spectral triple. We prove in this paper that we can construct spectral triples on fuzzy tori which, as the dimension grow to infinity and under other natural conditions, converge to a natural spectral triple on quantum tori, in the sens…
We investigate manifolds with boundary in noncommutative geometry. Spectral triples associated to a symmetric differential operator and a local boundary condition are constructed. For a classical Dirac operator with a chiral boundary condition, we show that there is no tadpole.
Callias-type (or Dirac-Schrödinger) operators associated to abstract semifinite spectral triples are introduced and their indices are computed in terms of an associated index pairing derived from the spectral triple. The result is then interpreted as an index theorem for a non-commutative analogue of spectral flow. Both even and odd spectral triples are considered, and both commutative and non-commutative examples are given.
In the abstract pseudodifferential setup of Connes and Moscovici, we prove a general formula for the discrepancies of zeta-regularised traces associated with certain spectral triples, and we introduce a canonical trace on operators, whose order lies outside (minus) the dimension spectrum of the spectral triple.
The notion of good spectral triple is initiated. We prove firstly that any regular spectral triple may be embedded in a good spectral triple, so that, in non-commutative geometry, we can restricts to deal only with good spectral triples. Given a good spectral triple K=(A,H,D), we prove that A is naturally endowed with a topology, called the K-topology, making it into an unital Frechet pre C*-algebra, and that the group Inv(A) of its invertible elements has a canonical structure of Frechet Lie group of Campbell-Baker-Hausdorff type open in its Lie algebra A; moreover, for any n>0 one has that K…
We give a construction allowing to lift spectral triples to crossed products by Hilbert bimodules. The spectral triple one obtains is a concrete unbounded representative of the Kasparov product of the spectral triple and the Pimsner-Toeplitz extension associated to the crossed product by the Hilbert bimodule. To prove that the lifted spectral triple is the above-mentioned Kasparov product, we rely on operator-$*$-algebras and connexions.
We define a metric on the class of metric spectral triples, which is null exactly between spectral triples with unitary equivalent Dirac operators and *-isomorphic underlying C*-algebras. This metric dominates the propinquity, and thus implies metric convergence of the compact quantum metric spaces induced by metric spectral triples. In the process of our construction, we also introduce the covariant modular propinquity, as a key component for the definition of the spectral propinquity.
We study the isospectral deformations of the Eguchi-Hanson spaces along a torus isometric action in the noncompact noncommutative geometry. We concentrate on locality, smoothness and summability conditions of the nonunital spectral triples, and relate them to the geometric conditions to be noncommutative spin manifolds.
Let $G$ be a finite group. Noncommutative geometry of unital $G$-algebras is studied. A geometric structure is determined by a spectral triple on the crossed product algebra associated with the group action. This structure is to be viewed as a representative of a noncommutative orbifold. Based on a study of classical orbifold groupoids, a Morita equivalence for the crossed product spectral triples is developed. Noncommutative orbifolds are Morita equivalence classes of the crossed product spectral triples. As a special case of this Morita theory one can study freeness of the $G$-action on the …
Given a free action of a compact Lie group $G$ on a unital C*-algebra $\mathcal{A}$ and a spectral triple on the corresponding fixed point algebra $\mathcal{A}^G$, we present a systematic and in-depth construction of a spectral triple on $\mathcal{A}$ that is build upon the geometry of $\mathcal{A}^G$ and $G$. We compare our construction with a selection of established examples.
We study natural conditions on essentially discrete spectral triples by which the quantum differential $da$ belongs to the ideal generated by the unit length $ds=D^{-1}$. We also study upper and lower bounds on the singular values of the $da$'s and apply the general framework to natural spectral triples of Dirichlet spaces and, in particular, those on dual of discrete groups arising from negative definite functions.
We define pseudo-Riemannian spectral triples, an analytic context broad enough to encompass a spectral description of a wide class of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds, as well as their noncommutative generalisations. Our main theorem shows that to each pseudo-Riemannian spectral triple we can associate a genuine spectral triple, and so a K-homology class. With some additional assumptions we can then apply the local index theorem. We give a range of examples and some applications. The example of the harmonic oscillator in particular shows that our main theorem applies to much more than just classica…
