In this paper, we consider the stabilization of wave equations with moving boundary. First, we show the solution behaviour of wave equation with Neumann boundary conditions, that is, the energy of wave equation with mixed boundary conditions may decrease, increase or conserve depending on the different range of parameter. Second, we prove the wellposedness and stabilization for the wave equation with time delay and moving boundary.
We consider the stabilizability of a fluid-structure interaction system where the fluid is viscous and compressible and the structure is a rigid ball. The feedback control of the system acts on the ball and corresponds to a force that would be produced by a spring and a damper connecting the center of the ball to a fixed point $h_1$. We prove the global-in-time existence of strong solutions for the corresponding system under a smallness condition on the initial velocities and on the distance between the initial position of the center of the ball and $h_1$. Then, we show with our feedback law, …
We obtain free of resonances regions for the elasticity system in the exterior of a strictly convex body with dissipative boundary conditions under some natural assumptions on the behaviour of the geodesics on the boundary.
In this paper we consider a boundary stabilization problem for the wave equation with interior delay. We prove an exponential stability result under some Lions geometric condition. The proof of the main result is based on an identity with multipliers that allows to obtain a uniform decay estimate for a suitable Lyapunov functional.
In this paper we consider an interior stabilization problem for the wave equation with dynamic boundary delay. We prove some stability results under the choice of damping operator. The proof of the main result is based on a frequency domain method and combines a contradiction argument with the multiplier technique to carry out a special analysis for the resolvent.
We propose a model using the Korteweg-de Vries $(KdV)$ equation on a finite star-shaped network. We first prove the well-posedness of the system and give some regularity results. Then we prove that the energy of the solutions of the dissipative system decays exponentially to zero when the time tends to infinity. Lastly we show an exact boundary controllability result.
This paper deals with a one-dimensional wave equation with a nonlinear dynamic boundary condition and a Neumann-type boundary control acting on the other extremity. We consider a class of nonlinear stabilizing feedbacks that only depend on the velocity at the controlled extremity. The uncontrolled boundary is subject to a nonlinear first-order term, which may represent nonlinear boundary anti-damping. Initial data is taken in the optimal energy space associated with the problem. Exponential decay of the mechanical energy is investigated in different cases. Stability and attractivity of suitabl…
We investigate the long-time behavior of solutions of quasilinear hyperbolic systems with transparent boundary conditions when small source terms are incorporated in the system. Even if the finite-time stability of the system is not preserved, it is shown here that an exponential convergence towards the steady state still holds with a decay rate which is proportional to the logarithm of the amplitude of the source term. The result is stated for a system with dynamical boundary conditions in order to deal with initial data that are free of any compatibility condition.
In this paper, we solve the problem of exponential stabilization for a class of cascade ODE-PDE system governed by a linear ordinary differential equation and a 1-d linearized Korteweg-de Vries equation (KdV) posed on a bounded interval. The control for the entire system acts on the left boundary with Dirichlet condition of the KdV equation whereas the KdV acts in the linear ODE by a Dirichlet connection. We use the socalled backstepping design in infinite dimension to convert the system under consideration into an exponentially stable cascade ODE-PDE system. Then, we use the invertibility of s…
We consider N strings connected to one another and forming a particular network which is a chain of strings. We study a stabilization problem and precisley we prove that the energy of the solutions of the dissipative system decay exponentially to zero when the time tends to infinity, independently of the densities of the strings. Our technique is based on a frequency domain method and a special analysis for the resolvent. Moreover, by same appraoch, we study the transfert function associated to the chain of strings and the stability of the Schrödinger system.
The Jordan--Moore--Gibson--Thompson (JMGT) equation is a well-established and recently widely studied model for nonlinear acoustics (NLA). It is a third-order (in time) semilinear Partial Differential Equation (PDE) model with the distinctive feature of predicting the propagation of ultrasound waves at \textit{finite} speed due to heat phenomenon know as \textit{second sound} which leads to the hyperbolic character of heat propagation. In this paper, we consider the problem of stabilizability of the linear (known as) MGT--equation. We consider a special geometry that is suitable for studying t…
The paper is devoted to the study of a stabilization problem for the 2D incompressible Euler system in an infinite strip with boundary controls. We show that for any stationary solution (c, 0) of the Euler system there is a control which is supported in a given bounded part of the boundary of the strip and stabilizes the system to (c, 0).
In a gas transport system, the customer behavior is uncertain. Motivated by this situation, we consider a boundary stabilization problem for the flow through a gas pipeline, where the outflow at one end of the pipe that is governed by the customer's behavior is uncertain. The control action is located at the other end of the pipe. The feedback law is a classical Neumann velocity feedback with a feedback parameter $k>0$. We show that as long as the $H^1$-norm of the function that describes the noise in the customer's behavior decays exponentially with a rate that is sufficiently large, the velo…
We investigate the finite-time boundary stabilization of a 1-D first order quasilinear hyperbolic system of diagonal form on [0,1]. The dynamics of both boundary controls are governed by a finite-time stable ODE. The solutions of the closed-loop system issuing from small initial data in Lip([0,1]) are shown to exist for all times and to reach the null equilibrium state in finite time. When only one boundary feedback law is available, a finite-time stabilization is shown to occur roughly in a twice longer time. The above feedback strategy is then applied to the Saint-Venant system for the regul…
We investigate an initial-boundary value problem for a quasilinear nonhomogeneous, anisotropic Maxwell system subject to an absorbing boundary condition of Silver & Müller type in a smooth, bounded, strictly star-shaped domain of $\mathbb{R}^{3}$. Imposing usual smallness assumptions in addition to standard regularity and compatibility conditions, a nonlinear stabilizability inequality is obtained by showing nonlinear dissipativity and observability-like estimates enhanced by an intricate regularity analysis. With the stabilizability inequality at hand, the classic nonlinear barrier method is …
The Jordan-Moore-Gibson-Thompson (JMGT)\cite{christov_heat_2005,jordan_nonlinear_2008,straughan_heat_2014} equation is a benchmark model describing propagation of nonlinear acoustic waves in heterogeneous fluids at rest. This is a third-order (in time) dynamics which accounts for a finite speed of propagation of heat signals (see \cite{coulouvrat_equations_1992,crighton_model_1979,jordan_nonlinear_2008,jordan_second-sound_2014,kaltenbacher_jordan-moore-gibson-thompson_2019}). In this paper, we study a boundary stabilization of linearized version (also known as MGT-equation) in the {\it critica…
In this paper, we study the boundary feedback stabilization of a quasilinear hyperbolic system with partially dissipative structure. Thanks to this structure, we construct a suitable Lyapunov function which leads to the exponential stability to the equilibrium of the $H^2$ solution. As an application, we also obtain the feedback stabilization for the Saint-Venant-Exner model under physical boundary conditions.
The rotated multipliers method is performed in the case of the boundary stabilization by means of a(linear or non-linear) Neumann feedback. this method leads to new geometrical cases concerning the "active" part of the boundary where the feedback is apllied. Due to mixed boundary conditions, these cases generate singularities. Under a simple geometrical conditon concerning the orientation of boundary, we obtain a stabilization result in both cases.
In this paper, we present output feedback boundary stabilization for a class of semilinear parabolic PDEs with a boundary measurement and an actuation located at the same place. The method uses backstepping transformations, where the state and error systems are proved to be locally exponentially stable in the $\mathbb{H}^4$ norm. The stability of the transformed systems are obtained by constructing a strict Lyapunov function. A numerical example using the FitzHugh-Nagumo equation shows the proposed control law stabilizes the system into its equilibrium solution.
This article concerns the nonlinear Korteweg-de Vries equation with boundary time-delay feedback. Under appropriate assumption on the coefficients of the feedbacks (delayed or not), we first prove that this nonlinear infinite dimensional system is well-posed for small initial data. The main results of our study are two theorems stating the exponential stability of the nonlinear time delay system. Two different methods are employed: a Lyapunov functional approach (allowing to have an estimation on the decay rate, but with a restrictive assumption on the length of the spatial domain of the KdV e…
We investigate the finite-time stabilization of a tree-shaped network of strings. Transparent boundary conditions are applied at all the external nodes. At any internal node, in addition to the usual continuity conditions, a modified Kirchhoff law incorporating a damping term $αu_t$ with a coefficient $α$ that may depend on the node is considered. We show that for a convenient choice of the sequence of coefficients $α$, any solution of the wave equation on the network becomes constant after a finite time. The condition on the coefficients proves to be sharp at least for a star-shaped tree. Sim…
In this paper we consider scalar conservation laws with a convex flux. Given a stationnary shock, we provide a feedback law acting at one boundary point such that this solution is now asymptotically stable in L 1-norm in the class of entropy solution.
Layered smart composite beams involving a piezoelectric layer are traditionally actuated by a voltage source by the extension mechanism. In this paper, we consider only the bending and shear of a cantilevered piezoelectric smart composite beam modeled by the Mead-Marcus sandwich beam assumptions. Uniform exponential stabilitization with only one boundary state feedback controller, simultaneously controlling both bending moment and shear, is proved by using a spectral multiplier approach. The state feedback controller slightly differs from the classical counterparts by a non-trivial compact and…
This paper studies the global feedback stabilization problem of a system with two pistons and the area between them containing a viscous compressible fluid (gas) modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations. The control input is the force applied on the left piston (boundary input) and the overall system consists of two nonlinear Partial Differential Equations and four nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equations. Global feedback stabilizers are designed for the overall system by means of the Control Lyapunov Functional methodology. The closed-loop system exhibits global asymptotic stability with an ex…
We give a necessary and sufficient condition, of geometric type, for the uniform decay of energy of solutions of the linear system of magnetoelasticity in a bounded domain with smooth boundary. A Dirichlet-type boundary condition is assumed. When the geometrical condition is not fulfilled, we show polynomial decay of the energy, for smooth initial conditions. Our strategy is to use micro-local defect measures to show suitable observability inequalities on high-frequency solutions of the Lame system.
We consider a fluid-structure interaction system composed by a three-dimensional viscous incompressible fluid and an elastic plate located on the upper part of the fluid boundary. The fluid motion is governed by the Navier-Stokes system whereas the structure displacement satisfies the damped plate equation. We consider here the Navier slip boundary conditions. The main result of this work is the feedback stabilization of the strong solutions of the corresponding system around a stationary state for any exponential decay rate by means of a time delayed control localized on the fixed fluid bound…
In this paper, we consider the problem of nonlinear (in particular, saturated) stabilization of the high-dimensional wave equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The wave dynamics are subject to a dissipative nonlinear velocity feedback and generate a strongly continuous semigroup of contractions on the optimal energy space $L^2(Ω) \times H^{-1}(Ω)$. It is first proved that any solution to the closed-loop equations converges to zero in the aforementioned topology. Secondly, under the condition that the feedback nonlinearity has linear growth around zero, polynomial energy decay rates are …
This paper studies the local exact controllability and the local stabilization of the semilinear Schrödinger equation posed on a product of $n$ intervals ($n\ge 1$). Both internal and boundary controls are considered, and the results are given with periodic (resp. Dirichlet or Neumann) boundary conditions. In the case of internal control, we obtain local controllability results which are sharp as far as the localization of the control region and the smoothness of the state space are concerned. It is also proved that for the linear Schrödinger equation with Dirichlet control, the exact controll…
This paper deals with the boundary stabilization problem of a one-dimensional wave equation with a switching time-delay in the boundary. We show that the problem is well-posed in the sense of semigroups theory of linear operators. Then, we provide a theoretical and numerical study of the exponential stability of the system under an appropriate delay coefficient.
In this paper, we shall prove a Carleman estimate for the so-called Zaremba problem. Using some techniques of interpolation and spectral estimates, we deduce a result of stabilization for the wave equation by means of a linear Neumann feedback on the boundary. This extends previous results from the literature: indeed, our logarithmic decay result is obtained while the part where the feedback is applied contacts the boundary zone driven by an homogeneous Dirichlet condition. We also derive a controllability result for the heat equation with the Zaremba boundary condition.
In this paper we present control of infinite-dimensional systems by power shaping methods, which have been used extensively for control of finite dimensional systems. Towards achieving the results we work within the Brayton Moser framework, by using the system of transmission line as an example and derive passivity of the system with respect to the boundary voltages and derivatives of current at the boundary. We then solve the stabilization problem by interconnecting the system through a finite-dimensional controller and generating Casimirs for the closed-loop system. Finally we explore possib…
We study the exponential stabilization problem for a nonlinear Korteweg-de Vries equa- tion on bounded interval in cases where the linearized control system is not controllable. The system has Dirichlet boundary conditions at the end-points of the interval, a Neumann nonhomogeneous boundary condition at the right end-point which is the control. We build a class of time-varying feedback laws for which the solutions of the closed-loop systems with small initial data decay exponentially to 0. We present also results on the well-posedness of the closed-loop systems for general time-varying feedbac…
The initial boundary value problem for a nonlinear system of equations modeling the chevron patterns is studied in one and two spatial dimensions. The existence of an exponential attractor and the stabilization of the zero steady state solution through application of a finite-dimensional feedback control is proved in two spatial dimensions. The stabilization of an arbitrary fixed solution is shown in one spatial dimension along with relevant numerical results.
We study the transmission problem in bounded domains with dissipative boundary conditions. Under some natural assumptions, we prove uniform bounds of the corresponding resolvents on the real axis at high frequency, and as a consequence, we obtain free of eigenvalues regions. As an application, we get exponential decay of the energy of the solutions of the correpsonding mixed boundary value problems.
In this article, we examine $L^2$ well-posedness and stabilization property of the dispersion-generalized Benjamin-Ono equation with periodic boundary conditions. The main ingredient of our proof is a development of dissipation-normalized Bourgain space, which gains smoothing properties simultaneously from dissipation and dispersion within the equation. We will establish a bilinear estimate for the derivative nonlinearity using this space and prove the linear observability inequality leading to small-data stabilization.
