The Jordan-Moore-Gibson-Thompson (JMGT)\cite{christov_heat_2005,jordan_nonlinear_2008,straughan_heat_2014} equation is a benchmark model describing propagation of nonlinear acoustic waves in heterogeneous fluids at rest. This is a third-order (in time) dynamics which accounts for a finite speed of propagation of heat signals (see \cite{coulouvrat_equations_1992,crighton_model_1979,jordan_nonlinear_2008,jordan_second-sound_2014,kaltenbacher_jordan-moore-gibson-thompson_2019}). In this paper, we study a boundary stabilization of linearized version (also known as MGT-equation) in the {\it critical case}, configuration in which the smallness of the diffusion effects leads to conservative dynamics \cite{kaltenbacher_wellposedness_2011}. Through a single measurement in {\it{feedback}} form made on a non-empty, relatively open portion of the boundary under natural geometric conditions, we were able to obtain uniform exponential stability results that are, in addition, uniform with respect to the space-dependent viscoelasticity parameter which no longer needs to be assumed positive and in fact can be degenerate and taken to be zero on the whole domain. This result, of independent interest in the area of boundary stabilization of MGT equations, provides a necessary first step for the study of optimal boundary feedback control on {\it infinite horizon} \cite{bucci_feedback_2019}.
The Jordan--Moore--Gibson--Thompson (JMGT) equation is a well-established and recently widely studied model for nonlinear acoustics (NLA). It is a third-order (in time) semilinear Partial Differential Equation (PDE) model with the distinctive feature of predicting the propagation of ultrasound waves at \textit{finite} speed due to heat phenomenon know as \textit{second sound} which leads to the hyperbolic character of heat propagation. In this paper, we consider the problem of stabilizability of the linear (known as) MGT--equation. We consider a special geometry that is suitable for studying t…
The rotated multipliers method is performed in the case of the boundary stabilization by means of a(linear or non-linear) Neumann feedback. this method leads to new geometrical cases concerning the "active" part of the boundary where the feedback is apllied. Due to mixed boundary conditions, these cases generate singularities. Under a simple geometrical conditon concerning the orientation of boundary, we obtain a stabilization result in both cases.
In this paper, we consider the stabilization of wave equations with moving boundary. First, we show the solution behaviour of wave equation with Neumann boundary conditions, that is, the energy of wave equation with mixed boundary conditions may decrease, increase or conserve depending on the different range of parameter. Second, we prove the wellposedness and stabilization for the wave equation with time delay and moving boundary.
We consider an elastic/viscoelastic transmission problem for the Bresse system with fully Dirichlet or Dirichlet-Neumann-Neumann boundary conditions. The physical model consists of three wave equations coupled in certain pattern. The system is damped directly or indirectly by global or local Kelvin-Voigt damping. Actually, the number of the dampings, their nature of distribution (locally or globally) and the smoothness of the damping coefficient at the interface play a crucial role in the type of the stabilization of the corresponding semigroup. Indeed, using frequency domain approach combined…
In this article, global stabilization results for the two dimensional (2D) viscous Burgers' equation, that is, convergence of unsteady solution to its constant steady state solution with any initial data, are established using a nonlinear Neumann boundary feedback control law. Then, applying $C^0$-conforming finite element method in spatial direction, optimal error estimates in $L^\infty(L^2)$ and in $L^\infty(H^1)$- norms for the state variable and convergence result for the boundary feedback control law are derived. All the results preserve exponential stabilization property. Finally, severa…
This paper studies the local exact controllability and the local stabilization of the semilinear Schrödinger equation posed on a product of $n$ intervals ($n\ge 1$). Both internal and boundary controls are considered, and the results are given with periodic (resp. Dirichlet or Neumann) boundary conditions. In the case of internal control, we obtain local controllability results which are sharp as far as the localization of the control region and the smoothness of the state space are concerned. It is also proved that for the linear Schrödinger equation with Dirichlet control, the exact controll…
In this paper, we are concerned with the state feedback stabilization of ODE-PDE cascade systems governed by a linear ordinary differential equation and the 1-d reaction-diffusion equation posed on a bounded interval. In contrast to the previous works in the literature where the control acts at the boundary, the control for the entire system acts at an inside point of the PDE domain whereas the PDE acts in the linear ODE by a Neumann connection. We use the infinite dimensional backstepping design to convert system under consideration to an exponentially target system. By invertibility of the d…
In this paper, we consider the problem of nonlinear (in particular, saturated) stabilization of the high-dimensional wave equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The wave dynamics are subject to a dissipative nonlinear velocity feedback and generate a strongly continuous semigroup of contractions on the optimal energy space $L^2(Ω) \times H^{-1}(Ω)$. It is first proved that any solution to the closed-loop equations converges to zero in the aforementioned topology. Secondly, under the condition that the feedback nonlinearity has linear growth around zero, polynomial energy decay rates are …
We study the exponential stabilization problem for a nonlinear Korteweg-de Vries equa- tion on bounded interval in cases where the linearized control system is not controllable. The system has Dirichlet boundary conditions at the end-points of the interval, a Neumann nonhomogeneous boundary condition at the right end-point which is the control. We build a class of time-varying feedback laws for which the solutions of the closed-loop systems with small initial data decay exponentially to 0. We present also results on the well-posedness of the closed-loop systems for general time-varying feedbac…
We investigate the finite-time stabilization of a tree-shaped network of strings. Transparent boundary conditions are applied at all the external nodes. At any internal node, in addition to the usual continuity conditions, a modified Kirchhoff law incorporating a damping term $αu_t$ with a coefficient $α$ that may depend on the node is considered. We show that for a convenient choice of the sequence of coefficients $α$, any solution of the wave equation on the network becomes constant after a finite time. The condition on the coefficients proves to be sharp at least for a star-shaped tree. Sim…
This paper deals with a one-dimensional wave equation with a nonlinear dynamic boundary condition and a Neumann-type boundary control acting on the other extremity. We consider a class of nonlinear stabilizing feedbacks that only depend on the velocity at the controlled extremity. The uncontrolled boundary is subject to a nonlinear first-order term, which may represent nonlinear boundary anti-damping. Initial data is taken in the optimal energy space associated with the problem. Exponential decay of the mechanical energy is investigated in different cases. Stability and attractivity of suitabl…
We consider the strong stabilization of small amplitude gravity water waves in a two dimensional rectangular domain. The control acts on one lateral boundary, by imposing the horizontal acceleration of the water along that boundary, as a multiple of a scalar input function $u$, times a given function $h$ of the height along the active boundary. The state $z$ of the system consists of two functions: the water level $ζ$ along the top boundary, and its time derivative $\dotζ$. We prove that for suitable functions $h$, there exists a bounded feedback functional $F$ such that the feedback $u=Fz$ re…
We prove global internal controllability in large time for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation on a bounded interval with periodic, Dirichlet or Neumann conditions. Our strategy combines stabilization and local controllability near 0. We use Bourgain spaces to prove this result on L2. We also get a regularity result about the control if the data are assumed smoother.
This paper is concerned with the Neumann initial-boundary value problem for the two-species chemotaxis system with consumption of chemoattractant \begin{equation*} u_t=Δu-χ_1\nabla\cdot(u\nabla w), \end{equation*} \begin{equation*} v_t=Δv-χ_2\nabla\cdot(v\nabla w), \end{equation*} \begin{equation*} w_t=Δw-(αu+βv)w \end{equation*} in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ ($n\geq2$), where the parameters $χ_1$, $χ_2$, $α$ and $β$ are positive. It is proved that if \begin{equation*} \max\{χ_1,χ_2\}\|w(x,0)\|_{L^{\infty}(Ω)}<\sqrt{\frac{2}{n}}π\end{equation*} the problem possesses a uniqu…
In a gas transport system, the customer behavior is uncertain. Motivated by this situation, we consider a boundary stabilization problem for the flow through a gas pipeline, where the outflow at one end of the pipe that is governed by the customer's behavior is uncertain. The control action is located at the other end of the pipe. The feedback law is a classical Neumann velocity feedback with a feedback parameter $k>0$. We show that as long as the $H^1$-norm of the function that describes the noise in the customer's behavior decays exponentially with a rate that is sufficiently large, the velo…
In this paper, we shall prove a Carleman estimate for the so-called Zaremba problem. Using some techniques of interpolation and spectral estimates, we deduce a result of stabilization for the wave equation by means of a linear Neumann feedback on the boundary. This extends previous results from the literature: indeed, our logarithmic decay result is obtained while the part where the feedback is applied contacts the boundary zone driven by an homogeneous Dirichlet condition. We also derive a controllability result for the heat equation with the Zaremba boundary condition.
This work deals with the local rapid exponential stabilization for a Boussinesq system of KdV-KdV type introduced by J. Bona, M. Chen and J.-C. Saut. This is a model for the motion of small amplitude long waves on the surface of an ideal fluid. Here, we will consider the Boussinesq system of KdV-KdV type posed on a finite domain, with homogeneous Dirichlet--Neumann boundary controls acting at the right end point of the interval. Our goal is to build suitable integral transformations to get a feedback control law that leads to the stabilization of the system. More precisely, we will prove that …
This paper deals with the stabilization of the linear Biharmonic Schrödinger equation in an $n$-dimensional open bounded domain under Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions considering three infinite memory terms as damping mechanisms. We show that depending on the smoothness of initial data and the arbitrary growth at infinity of the kernel function, this class of solution goes to zero with a polynomial decay rate like $t^{-n}$ depending on assumptions about the kernel function associated with the infinite memory terms.
We study small perturbations of the Dirichlet problems for second order elliptic equations that degenerate on the boundary. The limit of the solution, as the perturbation tends to zero, is calculated. The result is based on a certain asymptotic self-similarity near the boundary, which holds in the generic case. In the last section, we briefly consider the stabilization of solutions to the corresponding parabolic equations with a small parameter. Metastability effects arise in this case: the asymptotics of the solution depends on the time scale. Initial-boundary value problem with the Neumann b…
This work is devoted to the development and analysis of a linearization algorithm for microscopic elliptic equations, with scaled degenerate production, posed in a perforated medium and constrained by the homogeneous Neumann-Dirichlet boundary conditions. This technique plays two roles: to guarantee the unique weak solvability of the microscopic problem and to provide a fine approximation in the macroscopic setting. The scheme systematically relies on the choice of a stabilization parameter in such a way as to guarantee the strong convergence in $H^1$ norm for both the microscopic and macrosco…
In this paper, we design Dirichlet-Neumann boundary feedback controllers for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation that act at the right endpoint of the domain. The length of the domain is allowed to be critical. Constructing backstepping controllers that act at the right endpoint of the domain is more challenging than its left endpoint counterpart. The standard application of the backstepping method fails, because corresponding kernel models become overdetermined. In order to deal with this difficulty, we introduce the pseudo-backstepping method, which uses a pseudo-kernel that satisfies all b…
We consider the linear degenerate wave equation, on the interval $(0, 1)$ $$ w_{tt} - (x^αw_x)_x = p(t) μ(x) w, $$ with bilinear control $p$ and Neumann boundary conditions. We study the controllability of this nonlinear control system, locally around a constant reference trajectory, the ground state. We prove that, generically with respect to $μ$, any target close to the ground state in the $H^3\times H^2$ topology (suitably adapted to the underlying degenerate operator) is reachable in time $T > \frac{4}{2-α}$, with controls in $L^2((0, T ),\mathbb R)$. Under some classical and generic assum…
