In this paper we are concerned with the global well-posedness of solutions to magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) boundary layer equations in analytic function spaces. When the initial data is a small perturbation around a selected profile, and such a profile is governed by an one dimensional heat equation with a source term, we establish the global in time existence and uniqueness of analytic solutions to the two dimensional (2D) MHD boundary layer equations. It is noted that the far-field state of velocity is not required to be small initially, but decays to zero as time tends to infinity with suitable decay rates. The whole analysis is divided into two parts: When the initial far-field states are not small, we reformulate the original problem into a small perturbation problem by extracting a suitable background profile which is governed by a heat equation, then we prove a long-time existence of solutions, and the lower bound of lifespan of solutions is given in term of the small parameter of initial perturbation; After establishing the long-time existence, combining the decay properties of far-field state and the properties of solutions to the heat equation, it is shown that both the solution obtained in the first part and the background profile indeed satisfy some smallness requirements when time goes to the lower bound of lifespan of solutions. Then we can show the global existence of solutions after this moment.
In this paper, we consider the steady MHD equations with inhomogeneous boundary conditions for the velocity and the tangential component of the magnetic field. Using a new construction of the magnetic lifting, we obtain existence of weak solutions under sharp assumption on boundary data for the magnetic field.
In this paper, we are concerned with the magnetic effect on the Sobolev solvability of boundary layer equations for the 2D incompressible MHD system without resistivity. The MHD boundary layer is described by the Prandtl type equations derived from the incompressible viscous MHD system without resistivity under the no-slip boundary condition on the velocity. Assuming that the initial tangential magnetic field does not degenerate, a local-in-time well-posedness in Sobolev spaces is proved without the monotonicity condition on the velocity field. Moreover, we show that if the tangential magnetic…
In general, the resistivity is inversely proportional to the electrical conductivity, and is usually taken to be zero when the conducting fluid is of extremely high conductivity (e.g., ideal conductors). In this paper, we first establish the global well-posedness of strong solution to an initial-boundary value problem of the one-dimensional compressible, viscous, heat-conductive, non-resistive MHD equations with general heat-conductivity coefficient and large data. Then, the non-resistive limit is justified and the convergence rates are obtained, provided the heat-conductivity satisfies some g…
We are concerned with the 3D incompressible Hall-magnetohydro-dynamic system (Hall-MHD). Our first aim is to provide the reader with an elementary proof of a global well-posedness result for small data with critical Sobolev regularity, in the spirit of Fujita-Kato's theorem [10] for the Navier-Stokes equations. Next, we investigate the long-time asymptotics of global solutions of the Hall-MHD system that are in the Fujita-Kato regularity class. A weak-strong uniqueness statement is also proven. Finally, we consider the so-called 2 1/2 D flows for the Hall-MHD system, and prove the global exist…
By observing a new relation between the magnetic pressure and the hydrodynamic pressure, global existence of classical solution to the full perfect MHD equations with large data is established, in particular including the case when all the viscosity, heat conductivity and diffusivity coefficients are constant. This can be viewed as an analog of the classical work by Kazhikhov-Shelukhin for the Navier-Stokes equations to the MHD equations. In addition, the vanishing shear viscosity limit is proved.
Existence of local-in-time unique solution and loss of smoothness of full Magnet-Hydro-Dynamics system (MHD) is considered for periodic initial data. The result is proven using Fujita-Kato's method in $\ell^1$ based (for the Fourier coefficients) functional spaces enabling us to easily estimate nonlinear terms in the system as well as solutions to Maxwells's equations. A loss of smoothness result is shown for the velocity and magnetic field. It comes from the damped-wave operator which does not have any smoothing effect.
In this paper, we investigate the solvability, regularity and the vanishing dissipation limit of solutions to the three-dimensional viscous magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) equations in bounded domains. On the boundary, the velocity field fulfills a Navier-slip condition, while the magnetic field satisfies the insulating condition. It is shown that the initial-boundary problem has a global weak solution for a general smooth domain. More importantly, for a flat domain, we establish the uniform local well-posedness of the strong solution with higher order uniform regularity and the asymptotic converge…
We consider the global solvability to the Cauchy problem of Kirchhoff equation with generalized classes of Manfrin's class. Manfrin's class is a subclass of Sobolev space, but we shall extend this class as a subclass of the ultradifferentiable class, and we succeed to prove the global solvability of Kirchhoff equation with large data in wider classes from the previous works.
On $T \times G$, where $T$ is a compact real-analytic manifold and $G$ is a compact Lie group, we consider differential operators $P$ which are invariant by left translations on $G$ and are elliptic in $T$. Under a mild technical condition, we prove that global hypoellipticity of $P$ implies its global analytic-hypoellipticity (actually Gevrey of any order $s \geq 1$). We also study the connection between the latter property and the notion of global analytic (resp. Gevrey) solvability, but in a much more general setup.
In this paper, we consider a two-dimensional non-resistive magnetohydrodynamic model, taking the fluctuation of absolute temperature into account. Combining the method of weak convergence developed by Lions [20], Feireisl et al. [7, 8] from compressible Navier-Stokes(- Fourier) system and the new technique of variable reduction proposed by Vasseur et al. [26] and refined by Novotny et al. [22] from compressible two-fluid models, weak solutions are shown to exist globally in time with finite energy initial data. The result is the first one on global solvability to full compressible, viscous, no…
Let $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n, n\geq 2$, be an open set. For an elliptic differential operator $L$ on $Ω$ with real analytic coefficients and a point $p\inΩ$, we construct a smooth function $g$ with the following properties: $g$ is flat at $p$ and the equation $Lu=g$ has no smooth local solution $u$ that is flat at $p$.
It is proved that there exists a local-in-time solution $u\in C([0,T),bmo(\mathbb{R}^d)^d)$ of the Navier-Stokes equations such that every $u(t)$ has an analytic extension on a complex domain whose size only depends on $t$ (and increases with $t$) and the external force $f$, assuming only that the initial velocity $u_0$ is a local $BMO$ function. Our method for proving is a combination and refinement of the work by Grujić and Kukavica [13], Guberović [15] and Kozono et al. [18]. One challenging step is the estimation of the heat and Stokes semigroups from $BMO$-type spaces to $L^\infty$; a res…
In this paper, we prove the global existence and the large time decay estimate of solutions to the two-dimensional MHD boundary layer equations with small initial data, which is analytical in the tangential variable. The main idea of the proof is motivated by that of \cite{PZ5}. The additional difficulties are: 1. there appears the magnetic field; 2. the far field here depends on the tangential variable; 3. the Reynolds number is different from magnetic Reynolds number. In particular, we solved an open question in \cite{XY19} concerning the large time existence of analytical solutions to the M…
We address the analyticity and large time decay rates for strong solutions of the Hall-MHD equations. By Gevrey estimates, we show that the strong solution with small initial date in $H^r(\mathbb{R}^3)$ with $r>\f 52$ becomes analytic immediately after $t>0$, and the radius of analyticity will grow like $\sqrt{t}$ in time. Upper and lower bounds on the decay of higher order derivatives are also obtained, which extends the previous work by Chae and Schonbek (J. Differential Equations 255 (2013), 3971--3982).
In this paper, we characterized an analytical and numerical study of the resonant interaction between waves in MHD. A system of evolution equations is derived; we focus on the study of the interaction between a selected triad. The resulting evolution equation contains a dispersive term in addition to the nonlinear term and convolution term. Effects of the influence of van der Waals parameter and magnetic field on the formation and structure of solitons are studied.
In this paper, we consider the lifespan of solution to the MHD boundary layer system as an analytic perturbation of general shear flow. By using the cancellation mechanism in the system observed in \cite{LXY1}, the lifespan of solution is shown to have a lower bound in the order of $\varepsilon^{-2+}$ if the strength of the perturbation is of the order of $\varepsilon$. Since there is no restriction on the strength of the shear flow and the lifespan estimate is larger than the one obtained for the classical Prandtl system in this setting, it reveals the stabilizing effect of the magnetic field…
In this paper we present an analytical study of a subgrid scale turbulence model of the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations, inspired by the Navier-Stokes-alpha (also known as the viscous Camassa-Holm equations or the Lagrangian-averaged Navier-Stokes-alpha model). Specifically, we show the global well-posedness and regularity of solutions of a certain MHD-alpha model (which is a particular case of the Lagrangian averaged magnetohydrodynamic-alpha model without enhancing the dissipation for the magnetic field). We also introduce other subgrid scale turbulence models, inspired…
We discuss Neumann problems for self-adjoint Laplacians on (possibly infinite) graphs. Under the assumption that the heat semigroup is ultracontractive we discuss the unique solvability for non-empty subgraphs with respect to the vertex boundary and provide analytic and probabilistic representations for Neumann solutions. A second result deals with Neumann problems on canonically compactifiable graphs with respect to the Royden boundary and provides conditions for unique solvability and analytic and probabilistic representations.
In this paper, we prove global existence of solutions with analytic regularity to the 2D MHD boundary layer equations in the mixed Prandtl and Hartmann regime derived by formal multi-scale expansion in \cite{GP}. The analysis shows that the combined effect of the magnetic diffusivity and transveral magnetic field on the boundary leads to a linear damping on the tangential velocity field near the boundary. And this damping effect yields the global in time analytic norm estimate in the tangential space variable on the perturbation of the classical steady Hartmann profile.
In this work we study three exterior extension problems for strongly elliptic partial equations: the Cauchy problem (in a special statement), the "analytical" continuation problem and the so called "inner" Dirichlet problem in the scale of the Sobolev spaces over a domain with relatively smooth boundaries. We consider the existence of solutions to these problems, the dense solvability and conditional well-posedness of these problems for a wide class of strongly elliptic systems. We also consider the approximation of solutions to these problems by a single layer potential and by a linear combin…
Consider a free boundary problem of compressible-incompressible two-phase flows with surface tension and phase transition in bounded domains $Ω_{t +}, Ω_{t -} \subset \mathbb{R}^N$, $N \ge 2$, where the domains are separated by a sharp compact interface $Γ_t \subset \mathbb{R}^{N - 1}$. We prove a global in time unique existence theorem for such free boundary problem under the assumption that the initial data are sufficiently small and the initial domain of the incompressible fluid is close to a ball. In particular, we obtain the solution in the maximal $L_p - L_q$-regularity class with $2 < p…
In this paper, we obtain global small solutions and decay estimates for the MHD boundary layer in Gevrey space without any structural assumptions, generalizing the results of \cite{NL} in analytic space. The proof method is mainly inspired by \cite{WXLY} and \cite{CW}, using new auxiliary functions and finer structural analysis to overcome the difficulty of the loss of derivatives and then we obtain the global well-posedness of the MHD boundary layer in the Gevrey $\frac{3}{2}$ space.
In this paper, we study the global well-posedness of the two dimensional rescaled anisotropic MHD system and also to the hydrostatic MHD with no slip boundary condition in a strip, for small initial data, which are analytic in the horizontal variable. We also justify the limit of the MHD system (when $ε\to 0$ where $ε$ denotes the height of the initial strip) is given by a couple of a Prandtl like system for the velocity and a magnetic field equation when the initial data are small and analytic.
We study by a combination of analytical and numerical Evans function techniques multi-D viscous and inviscid stability and associated transverse bifurcation of planar slow Lax MHD shocks in a channel with periodic boundary conditions. Notably, this includes the first multi-D numerical Evans function study for viscous MHD. Our results suggest that, rather than a planar shock, a nonplanar traveling wave with the same normal velocity is the typical mode of propagation in the slow Lax mode. Moreover, viscous and inviscid stability transitions appear to agree, answering (for this particular model a…
We consider a locally integrable real-analytic structure, and we investigate the local solvability in the category of Gevrey functions and ultradistributions of the complex d' naturally induced by the de Rham complex. We prove that the so-called condition Y(q) on the signature of the Levi form, for local solvability of d' u=f, is still necessary even if we take f in the classes of Gevrey functions and look for solutions u in the corresponding spaces of ultradistributions.
Consider the interior transmission problem arising in inverse boundary value problems for the diffusion equation with discontinuous diffusion coefficients. We prove the unique solvability of the interior transmission problem by constructing its Green function. First, we construct a local parametrix for the interior transmission problem near the boundary in the Laplace domain, by using the theory of pseudo-differential operators with a large parameter. Second, by carefully analyzing the analyticity of the local parametrix in the Laplace domain and estimating it there, a local parametrix for the…
We consider divergence form elliptic operators of the form $L=-\dv A(x)\nabla$, defined in $R^{n+1} = \{(x,t)\in R^n \times R \}$, $n \geq 2$, where the $L^{\infty}$ coefficient matrix $A$ is $(n+1)\times(n+1)$, uniformly elliptic, complex and $t$-independent. We show that for such operators, boundedness and invertibility of the corresponding layer potential operators on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^{n})=L^2(\partial\mathbb{R}_{+}^{n+1})$, is stable under complex, $L^{\infty}$ perturbations of the coefficient matrix. Using a variant of the $Tb$ Theorem, we also prove that the layer potentials are bounded a…
The diffraction of a plane wave by a transversely inhomogeneous isotropic nonmagnetic linearly polarized dielectric layer filled with a Kerr-type nonlinear medium is considered. The analytical and numerical solution techniques are developed. The diffraction problem is reduced to a singular boundary value problem for a semilinear second-order ordinary differential equation with a cubic nonlinearity and then to a cubic-nonlinear integral equation of the second kind and to a system of nonlinear operator equations of the second kind solved using iterations. Sufficient conditions of the unique solv…
We are interested in global properties of systems of left-invariant differential operators on compact Lie groups: regularity properties, properties on the closedness of the range and finite dimensionality of their cohomology spaces, when acting on various function spaces e.g. smooth, analytic and Gevrey. Extending the methods of Greenfield and Wallach (1973) to systems, we obtain abstract characterizations for these properties and use them to derive some generalizations of results due to Greenfield (1972), Greenfield and Wallach (1972), as well as global versions of a result of Caetano and Cor…
It is well known that generic solutions of the heat equation are not analytic in time in general. Here it is proven that ancient solutions with exponential growth are analytic in time in ${\M} \times (-\infty, 0]$. Here $\M=\R^n$ or is a manifold with Ricci curvature bounded from below. Consequently a necessary and sufficient condition is found on the solvability of backward heat equation in the class of functions with exponential growth.
In this paper we apply classical and recent techniques from quaternionic analysis using parabolic Dirac type operators and related Teodorescu and Cauchy-Bitzadse type operators to set up some analytic representation formulas for the solutions to the time depedendent incompressible viscous magnetohydrodynamic equations on some conformally flat manifolds, such as cylinders and tori associated with different spinor bundles. Also in this context a special variant of hypercomplex Eisenstein series related to the parabolic Dirac operator serve as kernel functions.
The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations of incompressible viscous fluids with finite electrical conductivity describe the motion of viscous electrically conducting fluids in a magnetic field. In this paper, we find twelve families of solutions of these equations by Xu's asymmetric and moving frame methods. A family of singular solutions may reflect basic characteristics of vortices. The other solutions are globally analytic with respect to the spacial variables. In particular, Bernoulli equation and Wronskian determinants play important roles in our approaches. Our solutions may also help engi…
