The light-cone gauge approach to $T\overline{T}$ deformed models is used to derive the $T\overline{T}$ deformed matrix nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the Landau--Lifshitz equation, and the Gardner equation. Properties of one-soliton solutions of the $T\overline{T}$ deformed nonlinear Schrödinger and Korteweg--de Vries equations are discussed in detail. The NLS soliton exhibits the recently discussed phenomenon of widening/narrowing width of particles under the $T\overline{T}$ deformation. However, whether the soliton's size is increasing or decreasing depends not only on the sign of the deformation parameter but also on soliton and potential parameters. The $T\overline{T}$ deformed KdV equation admits a one-parameter family of one-soliton solutions in addition to the usual velocity parameter. The extra parameter modifies the properties of the soliton, in particular, it appears in the dispersion relation.
We consider the nonrelativistic particle moving on noncommutative space-time in the presence of constant force $\vec{F}$. Further, following the paper M. Daszkiewicz, C.J. Walczyk, Phys. Rev. D 77, 105008 (2008); arXiv: 0802.3575 [math-ph], we recall that the considered noncommutativity generates additional force terms, which appear in the corresponding Newton equation. We demonstrate that the same force terms can be generated by the proper noninertial transformation of classical nonrelativistic space-time.
In this letter we introduce a one-parameter deformation of two-dimensional quantum field theories generated by a non-analytic operator which we call Root-$T \overline{T}$. For a conformal field theory, the operator coincides with the square-root of the $T \overline{T}$ operator. More generally, the operator is defined so that classically it is marginal and generates a flow which commutes with the $T \overline{T}$-flow. Intriguingly, the Root-$T \overline{T}$ flow is closely related to the ModMax theory recently constructed by Bandos, Lechner, Sorokin and Townsend.
In this paper, we present our study on the $T\bar{T}$-deformation of non-relativistic complex scalar field theory. We find the closed form of the deformed Lagrangian by using the perturbation and the method of characteristics. Furthermore we compute the exact energy spectrum of the deformed free theory by using the Brillouin-Wigner perturbation theory in an appropriate regularization scheme.
Nonrelativistic string theory is a self-contained corner of string theory, with its string spectrum enjoying a Galilean-invariant dispersion relation. This theory is unitary and ultraviolet complete, and can be studied from first principles. In these notes, we focus on the bosonic closed string sector. In curved spacetime, nonrelativistic string theory is defined by a renormalizable quantum nonlinear sigma model in background fields, following certain symmetry principles that disallow any deformation towards relativistic string theory. We review previous proposals of such symmetry principles a…
We propose a manifestly supersymmetric generalization of the solvable $T \overline{T}$ deformation of two-dimensional field theories. For theories with $(1,1)$ and $(0,1)$ supersymmetry, the deformation is defined by adding a term to the superspace Lagrangian built from a superfield containing the supercurrent. We prove that the energy levels of the resulting deformed theory are determined exactly in terms of those of the undeformed theory. This supersymmetric deformation extends to higher dimensions, where we conjecture that it might provide a higher-dimensional analogue of $T \overline{T}$, …
We point out that the arguments of Zamolodchikov and others on the $T\overline T$ and similar deformations of two-dimensional field theories may be extended to the more general non-Lorentz invariant case, for example non-relativistic and Lifshitz-type theories. We derive results for the finite-size spectrum and $S$-matrix of the deformed theories.
We describe various nonrelativistic contractions of two classes of twisted Poincare algebra: canonical one ($θ_{μν}$-deformation) and the one leading to Lie-algebraic models of noncommutative space-times. The cases of contraction-independent and contraction-dependent twist parameters are considered. We obtain five models of noncommutative nonrelativistic space-times, in particular, two new Lie-algebraic nonrelativistic deformations of space-time, respectively, with quantum time/classical space and with quantum space/classical time.
$\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ deformation was originally proposed as an irrelevant solvable deformation for 2d relativistic quantum field theories (QFTs). The same family of deformations can also be defined for integrable quantum spin chains which was first studied in the context of integrability in AdS/CFT. In this paper, we construct such deformations for yet another type of models, which describe a collection of particles moving in 1d and interacting in an integrable manner. The prototype of such models is the Lieb-Liniger model. This shows that such deformations can be defined for a ve…
We calculate the $\mathcal{S}$-multiplets for two-dimensional Euclidean $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ and $\mathcal{N} = (2,2)$ superconformal field theories under the $T\overline{T}$ deformation at leading order of perturbation theory in the deformation coupling. Then, from these $\mathcal{N} = (0, 2)$ deformed multiplets, we calculate two- and three-point correlators. We show the $\mathcal{N} = (0,2)$ chiral ring's elements do not flow under the $T\overline{T}$ deformation. Specializing to integrable supersymmetric seed theories, such as $\mathcal{N} = (2,2)$ Landau-Ginzburg models, we use the thermod…
We show that the $T \overline{T}$ deformation of two-dimensional quantum field theory on $\mathrm{AdS}_2$ is well-defined and solvable at the quantum level. Flow equations for the energy spectrum and partition function are derived in analogy with the flat space case. As a non-trivial check, we perturbatively compute the deformed energy spectrum for the case of a free scalar field. We analyze the high energy density of states of the deformed theory and find a Hagedorn growth of states.
We define a manifestly supersymmetric version of the $T \overline{T}$ deformation appropriate for a class of $(0+1)$-dimensional theories with $\mathcal{N} = 1$ or $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetry, including one presentation of the super-Schwarzian theory which is dual to JT supergravity. These deformations are written in terms of Noether currents associated with translations in superspace, so we refer to them collectively as $f(\mathcal{Q})$ deformations. We provide evidence that the $f(\mathcal{Q})$ deformations of $\mathcal{N} = 1$ and $\mathcal{N} = 2$ theories are on-shell equivalent to th…
Bosonic Bogoliubov transformations as Lorentz boosts in $(c,{\overline c})=(1,1)$ conformal field theories with marginal $J{\overline J }$ deformations
We revisit the results of Zamolodchikov and others on the deformation of two-dimensional quantum field theory by the determinant $\det T$ of the stress tensor, commonly referred to as $T\overline T$. Infinitesimally this is equivalent to a random coordinate transformation, with a local action which is, however, a total derivative and therefore gives a contribution only from boundaries or nontrivial topology. We discuss in detail the examples of a torus, a finite cylinder, a disk and a more general simply connected domain. In all cases the partition function evolves according to a linear diffus…
This is a pedagogical review on $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ deformation of two dimensional quantum field theories. It is based on three lectures which the author gave at ITP-CAS in December 2018. This review consists of four parts. The first part is a general introduction to $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ deformation. Special emphasises are put on the deformed classical Lagrangian and the exact solvability of the spectrum. The second part focuses on the torus partition sum of the $\mathrm{T}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$/$\mathrm{J}\overline{\mathrm{T}}$ deformed conformal field theories and …
We study $ \text{T}\overline{\text{T}} $ deformations of chiral bosons using the formalism due to Sen. For arbitrary numbers of left- and right-chiral bosons, we find that the $ \text{T}\overline{\text{T}} $-deformed Lagrangian can be computed in closed form, giving rise to a novel non-local action in Sen's formalism. We establish that at the limit of infinite $ \text{T}\overline{\text{T}} $ coupling, the equations of motion of deformed theory exhibits chiral decoupling. We then turn to a discussion of $ \text{T}\overline{\text{T}} $-deformed chiral fermions, and point out that the stress tens…
Quantum gravity in a finite region of spacetime is conjectured to be dual to a conformal field theory deformed by the irrelevant operator $T \overline{T}$. We test this conjecture with entanglement entropy, which is sensitive to ultraviolet physics on the boundary while also probing the bulk geometry. We find that the entanglement entropy for an entangling surface consisting of two antipodal points on a sphere is finite and precisely matches the Ryu-Takayanagi formula applied to a finite region consistent with the conjecture of McGough, Mezei and Verlinde. We also consider a one-parameter fami…
The surface/state correspondence suggests that the bulk co-dimensional two surface could be dual to the quantum state in the holographic conformal field theory(CFT). Inspired by the cutoff-AdS/$T\overline{T}$-deformed-CFT correspondence, we propose that the quantum states of two-dimensional $T\overline{T}$-deformed holographic CFT are dual to some particular surfaces in the AdS$_3$ gravity. In particular, the time slice of the cut-off surface is dual to the ground state of the $T\overline{T}$-deformed CFT. We examine our proposal by studying the entanglement entropy and quantum information met…
The light-cone gauge approach to $T{\overline T}$ deformed models is generalised to models deformed by U(1) conserved currents $J^α$, $\widetilde J^α$, stress-energy tensor $T^α_β$, and their various quadratic combinations of the form $ε_{αβ} K_1^αK_2^β$. It is then applied to derive a ten-parameter deformed Hamiltonian for a system of scalars with an arbitrary potential, the flow equations for the Hamiltonian density, and the flow equations for the energy of the deformed model. The flow equations disagree with the ones recently proposed in arXiv:1903.07606. The results obtained are applied to…
We provide a simple geometric meaning for deformations of so-called $T{\overline T}$ type in relativistic and non-relativistic systems. Deformations by the cross products of energy and momentum currents in integrable quantum field theories are known to modify the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations by a "CDD factor". In turn, CDD factors may be interpreted as additional, fixed shifts incurred in scattering processes: a finite width added to the fundamental particles (or, if negative, to the free space between them). We suggest that this physical effect is a universal way of understanding $T{\…
Certain objects of conformal field theory, for example partition functions on the rectangle and the torus, and one-point functions on the torus, are either invariant or transform simply under the modular group, properties which should be preserved under the $T\overline T$ deformation. The formulation and proof of this statement in fact extents to more general functions such as $T\overline T$ deformed modular and Jacobi forms. We show that the deformation acts simply on their Mellin transform, multiplying it by a universal entire function. Finally we show that Maass forms on the torus are eigen…
The three quantum groups dual to the generalized twist deformed Poincare Hopf algebras are provided with use of FRT procedure. Their Galilean counterparts are obtained by nonrelativistic contraction scheme.
$T\overline{T}$-deformed two-dimensional quantum Maxwell theory on the torus is examined, taking into account nonperturbative effects in the deformation parameter $μ$. We study the deformed partition function solving the relevant flow equation at the level of individual flux sectors. Summing exactly the "instanton" series, we obtain a well-defined expression for the partition function at arbitrary $μ$. For $μ>0$, the quantum spectrum of the theory experiences a truncation, the partition function reducing to a sum over a finite set of positive-energy states. For $μ<0$ instead, the appearance of…
The $T \overline{T}$ operator provides a universal irrelevant deformation of two-dimensional quantum field theories with remarkable properties, including connections to both string theory and holography beyond $\mathrm{AdS}$ spacetimes. In particular, it appears that a $T \overline{T}$-deformed theory is a kind of new structure, which is neither a local quantum field theory nor a full-fledged string theory, but which is nonetheless under some analytic control. On the other hand, supersymmetry is a beautiful extension of Poincaré symmetry which relates bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom. …
We describe a framework for constructing the Ricci-flat metrics on the total space of the canonical bundle over $\mathbb{CP}^2 \# \overline{\mathbb{CP}^2}$ (the del Pezzo surface of rank one). We construct explicitly the first-order deformation of the so-called `orthotoric metric' on this manifold. We also show that the deformation of the corresponding conformal Killing-Yano form does not exist.
We show that at the level of the equations of motion (i.e. classically), in the limit in which the $ \text{T}\overline{\text{T}} $ deformation parameter is sent to infinity, the left- and right-chiral sectors of $ \text{T}\overline{\text{T}} $-deformed free theories decouple.
The three new deformed Poincare Hopf algebras are constructed with use of twist procedure. The corresponding relativistic space-times providing the sum of canonical and Lie-algebraic type of noncommutativity are proposed. Finally, the nonrelativistic contraction limits to the corresponding Galilei Hopf algebras are performed.
Quantum field theory in zero spatial dimensions has a rich infrared landscape and a universal ultraviolet, inverting the usual Wilsonian paradigm. For holographic theories this implies a rich landscape of asymptotically AdS$_2$ geometries. Isolating the interiors of these spacetimes suggests a study of the analog of the $T\overline{T}$ deformation in quantum mechanics, which we pursue here. An equivalent description of this deformation in terms of coupling to worldline gravity is proposed, and applications to quantum mechanical systems - including the Schwarzian theory - are studied.
We study the partition function of a $T \overline{T}$-deformed version of Yang-Mills theory on the two-sphere. We show that the Douglas-Kazakov phase transition persists for a range of values of the deformation parameter, and that the critical area is lowered. The transition is of third order and also induced by instantons, whose contributions we characterize.
We study the general deformed conformal-Poincare (Galilean) symmetries consistent with relativistic (nonrelativistic) canonical noncommutative spaces. In either case we obtain deformed generators, containing arbitrary free parameters, which close to yield new algebraic structures. We show that a particular choice of these parameters reproduces the undeformed algebra. The modified coproduct rules and the associated Hopf algebra are also obtained. Finally, we show that for the choice of parameters leading to the undeformed algebra, the deformations are represented by twist functions.
We study the $T\overline{T}$ deformation of two dimensional quantum field theories from a Hamiltonian point of view, focusing on aspects of the theory in Lorentzian signature. Our starting point is a simple rewriting of the spatial integral of the $T\overline{T}$ operator, which directly implies the deformed energy spectrum of the theory. Using this rewriting, we then derive flow equations for various quantities in the deformed theory, such as energy eigenstates, operators, and correlation functions. On the plane, we find that the deformation merely has the effect of implementing successive ca…
We reexamine the massless spectrum of a heterotic string vacuum at large radius and present two results. The first result is to construct a vector bundle $\mathcal{Q}$ and operator $\overline{\mathcal{D}}$ whose kernel amounts to deformations solving `F-term' type equations. This resolves a dilemma in previous works in which the spin connection is treated as an independent degree of freedom, something that is not the case in string theory. The second result is to utilise the moduli space metric, constructed in previous work, to define an adjoint operator $\overline{\mathcal{D}}^†$. The kernel …
We study the entanglement entropy (EE) and the Rényi entropy (RE) of multiple intervals in two-dimensional $T\overline{T}$-deformed conformal field theory (CFT) at finite temperature by field theoretic and holographic methods. First, by the replica method with the twist operators, we construct the general formula of the RE and EE up to the first order of a deformation parameter. By using our general formula, we show that the EE of multiple intervals for a holographic CFT is just a summation of the single interval case even with the small deformation. This is a non-trivial consequence from the …
We propose canonical and Lie-algebraic twist deformations of $κ$-deformed Poincare Hopf algebra which leads to the generalized $κ$-Minkowski space-time relations. The corresponding deformed $κ$-Poincare quantum groups are also calculated. Finally, we perform the nonrelativistic contraction limit to the corresponding twisted Galilean algebras and dual Galilean quantum groups.
Sharpening the holographic correspondence of Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity and its dual matrix model description at a finite radial cutoff $λ$ through the $T\overline{T}$ deformation is of interest. To proceed, we simplify the problem by considering the Airy model and deform Airy correlators in the same way as in $T\overline{T}$-deformed JT gravity. We use those correlators to compute the annealed and quenched free energies for both $λ> 0$ and $λ< 0$ from an integral representation of the replica trick. At the leading order in $λ$ and low temperatures, we confirm that the genus-zero quenched …
A notion of stochastic deformation is introduced and the corresponding algebraic deformation procedure is developed. This procedure is analogous to the deformation of an algebra of observables like deformation quantization, but for an imaginary deformation parameter (the Planck constant). This method is demonstrated on diverse relativistic and nonrelativistic models with finite and infinite degrees of freedom. It is shown that under stochastic deformation the model of a nonrelativistic particle interacting with the electromagnetic field on a curved background passes into the stochastic model d…
In this paper, we study the entanglement entropy of a single interval on a cylinder in two-dimensional $T\overline{T}$-deformed conformal field theory. For such case, the (Rényi) entanglement entropy takes a universal form in a CFT. We compute the correction due to the deformation up to the leading order of the deformation parameter in the framework of the conformal perturbation theory. We find that the correction to the entanglement entropy is nonvanishing in the finite temperature case, while it is vanishing in the finite size case. For the deformed holographic large $c$ CFT, which is propos…
New Galilei quantum groups dual to the Hopf algebras proposed in [1] are obtained by the nonrelativistic contraction procedures. The corresponding Lie-algebraic and quadratic quantum space-times are identified with the translation sectors of considered algebras.

We compare two ways of force terms generating in the model of nonrelativistic particle moving in the presence of constant field force $\vec{F}$. First of them uses the twist-deformed N-enlarged Newton-Hooke quantum space-times while the second one incorporates the Coriolis transformations of classical space. Particularly, we find the conditions for which the both treatments provide the same force terms. The presented investigations are performed by analogy to the schemes and ideas proposed in paper [1].
