Spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking plays an important role in studying strongly correlated unconventional superconductors. When two superconducting gap functions with different symmetries compete, the relative phase channel ($θ_-\equiv θ_1-θ_2$) exhibits an Ising-type $Z_2$ symmetry due to the second order Josephson coupling, where $θ_{1,2}$ are the phases of two gap functions respectively. In contrast, the $U(1)$ symmetry in the channel of $θ_+\equiv \frac{θ_1+θ_2}{2}$ is intact. The phase locking, i.e., ordering of $θ_-$, can take place in the phase fluctuation regime before the onset of superconductivity, i.e. when $θ_+$ is disordered. If $θ_-$ is pinned at $\pm\fracπ{2}$, then time-reversal symmetry is broken in the normal state, otherwise, if $θ_-=0$, or, $π$, rotational symmetry is broken, leading to a nematic normal state. In both cases, the order parameters possess a 4-fermion structure beyond the scope of mean-field theory, which can be viewed as a high order symmetry breaking. We employ an effective two-component $XY$-model assisted by a renormalization group analysis to address this problem. As a natural by-product, we also find the other interesting intermediate phase corresponds to ordering of $θ_+$ but with $θ_-$ disordered. This is the quartetting, or, charge-4e, superconductivity, which occurs above the low temperature $Z_2$-breaking charge-2e superconducting phase. Our results provide useful guidance for studying novel symmetry breaking phases in strongly correlated superconductors.
One of the mysteries of modern condenced-matter physics is the nature of the pseudogap state of the superconducting cuprates. Kaminski et al.1 claimed to have observed signatures of time-reversal symmetry breaking in the pseudogap regime in underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d (Bi2212). Here we argue that the observed dichroism is due to the 5x1 superstructure replica of the electronic bands and therefore cannot be considered as evidence for the spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking in cuprates.
It is pointed out that erroneous Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer model equations have been used by Haranath Ghosh in his recent treatment of time-reversal symmetry-breaking superconductivity. Consequently, his numerical results are misleading, and his conclusions are not to the point.
We report muon spin relaxation measurements on the superconductor Sr2RuO4 that reveal the spontaneous appearance of an internal magnetic field below the transition temperature: the appearance of such a field indicates that the superconducting state in this material is characterized by the breaking of time-reversal symmetry. These results, combined with other symmetry considerations, suggest that superconductivity in Sr2RuO4 is of p-wave (odd-parity) type, analogous to superfluid 3He.
We report on muon spin relaxation measurements of the 4f^2-based heavy-fermion superconductor filled-skutterudite PrOs4Sb12. The results reveal the spontaneous appearance of static internal magnetic fields below the superconducting transition temperature, providing unambiguous evidence for the breaking of time-reversal symmetry in the superconducting state. A discussion is made on which of the spin or orbital component of Cooper pairs carries a nonzero momentum.
Recently a phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory has been proposed to describe the occurrence of a locally time-reversal symmetry (T) breaking state near a Josephson junction between unconventional superconductors. In this paper we derive this type of GL free energy microscopically from the t-J model within a slave-boson mean-field approximation. The resulting GL free energy is shown to satisfy the conditions to have a T-violating surface state. The existence of this junction state may explain some of the recent experiments on High-Tc superconductors.
Surface states of d_{x^2-y^2}-wave superconductors are studied using the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory. For a [110] surface it has been known that the time-reversal symmetry (T) breaking surface state, (d+-is)-wave state, can occur if the bare transition temperature of the s-wave order parameter (OP) is positive. We show that even if this bare T_c is negative, it is possible to break T because the coupling to the spontaneously generated magnetic field may induce the s-wave OP. The T-breaking state is favored when the GL parameter (kappa) is small.
A detection of bosonic metallic state that breaks the $Z_2$ time-reversal symmetry has been recently reported in Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ with a doping level $x \approx 0.8$. This is a metallic state of fermionic quadruplets that breaks time-reversal symmetry. As such, it has no condensate of Cooper pairs but has a long-range order between fermionic quartets. In the present manuscript, we investigate the emergence of this phase in a two-component London model via Monte Carlo simulations as a function of various intercomponent couplings.
We argue that that in their recent experiment in which they claim to have found evidence for a time-reversal symmetry broken state, Kaminski et al. overlooked small temperature dependent changes in the superstructure of Bi2212. These subtle changes may manifest themselves by changing the final state configurations of the photoemission process and thus invalidate their ultimate conclusions.
Three-dimensional line-nodal superconductors exhibit nontrivial topology, which is protected by the time-reversal symmetry. Here we investigate four types of short-range interaction between the gapless line-nodal fermionic quasiparticles by carrying renormalization group analysis. We find that such interactions can induce the dynamical breaking of time-reversal symmetry, which alters the topology and might lead to six possible distinct superconducting states, distinguished by the group representations. After computing the susceptibilities for all the possible phase-transition instabilities, we…
I study the effects of disorder on the superconductivity of a three-band model with repulsive interband pairing. Such a model can support several possible superconducting order parameters, including a complex time-reversal symmetry breaking (TRSB) state. Impurity scattering suppresses the critical temperature of all these states, but the complex state survives, and remains a part of the phase diagram of the model even in the presence of moderate amount of disorder. This means that the TRSB states could be experimentally accessible in multiband materials like iron pnictides and chalcogenides.
In a recent comment [1], Armitage and Hu have suggested that our experiment observing dichroism in angle resolved photoemission (ARPES) [2] could not be conclusively interpreted as arising from time reversal symmetry breaking, arguing that our observations are likely due to structural effects. The concerns expressed by Armitage and Hu that our results could be due to a change in the mirror plane are as important as they are obvious. In fact the first part of their comment merely restates the results of Simon and Varma [3] about the relationship and contrast of effects due to time reversal symm…
We study time reversal symmetry breaking superconductivity with $Δ_k = Δ_{x^2-y^2} (k) +e^{iθ} Δ_α$ ($α= s$ or $d_{xy}$) symmetries. It is shown that the behavior of such superconductors could be {\em qualitatively} different depending on the minor components ($α$) and its phase at lower temperatures. It is argued that such {\em qualitatively different} behaviors in thermal as well as in angular dependencies could be a {\em source} of consequences in transport and Josephson physics. Orthorhombicity is found to be a strong mechanism for mixed phase (in case of $α= s$). We show that due to elect…
Superconductivity and magnetism are antagonistic states of matter. The presence of spontaneous magnetic fields inside the superconducting state is, therefore, an intriguing phenomenon prompting extensive experimental and theoretical research. In this review, we discuss recent experimental discoveries of unconventional superconductors which spontaneously break time-reversal symmetry and theoretical efforts in understanding their properties. We discuss the main experimental probes and give an extensive account of theoretical approaches to understand the order parameter symmetries and the corresp…
We study the behavior of spinless fermions in superconducting state, in which the phases of the superconducting order parameter depend on the direction of the link. We find that the energy of the superconductor depends on the phase differences of the superconducting order parameter. The solutions for the phases corresponding to the energy minimuma, lead to a topological superconducting state with the nontrivial Chern numbers. We focus our quantitative analysis on the properties of topological states of superconductors with different crystalline symmetry and show that the phase transition in th…
A novel route to a one-dimensional Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (1D-FFLO) state in the absence of broken time-reversal symmetry is proposed in this paper. At present such a state may be encouraged in a clean AlAs quantum wire. Using the AlAs quantum wire as an example it is shown using bosonization and the renormalization group approach that the 1D-FFLO state can arise due to a combination of Coulomb interactions and the unique bandstructure arrangement of the AlAs quantum wire. The present theoretical proposal is very general and is applicable to other systems with similar fermionic inter…

We show that the observed time-reversal symmetry breaking (TRSB) of the superconducting state in $\mathrm{Sr}_{2}\mathrm{Ru}\mathrm{O}_{4}$ can be understood as originating from inhomogeneous strain fields near edge dislocations of the crystal. Specifically, we argue that, without strain inhomogeneities, $\mathrm{Sr}_{2}\mathrm{Ru}\mathrm{O}_{4}$ is a single-component, time-reversal symmetric superconductor, likely with $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$ symmetry. However, due to the strong strain inhomogeneities generated by dislocations, a slowly-decaying sub-leading pairing state contributes to the condensa…
We show that an isolated impurity in a spin singlet d_{x2-y2} superconductor generates a d_{xy} order parameter with locally broken time-reversal symmetry. The origin of this effect is a coupling between the d_{x2-y2} and the d_{xy} order parameter induced by spin-orbit scattering off the impurity. The signature of locally broken time-reversal symmetry is an induced orbital charge current near the impurity, which generates a localized magnetic field in the vicinity of the impurity. We present a microscopic theory for the impurity induced d_{xy} component, discuss its spatial structure as well …
The multipocket Fermi surfaces of iron-based superconductors promote pairing states with both s_{+-}-wave and d_{x^2-y^2}-wave symmetry. We argue that the competition between these two order parameters could lead to a time-reversal-symmetry breaking state with s+id-pairing symmetry in the iron-based superconductors, and propose serveral scenarios in which this phase may be found. To understand the emergence of such a pairing state on a more rigorous footing, we start from a microscopic 5-orbital description representative for the pnictides. Using a combined approach of functional renormalizati…
Strong-coupling approach to temperature dependence of competing orders of superconductivity: Possible time-reversal symmetry breaking and nontrivial topology
Time-reversal symmetry breaking (TRSB) with a Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) -like superconductivity occurs in a small, but growing number of noncentrosymmetric (NCS) materials, although the mechanism is poorly understood. We present heat capacity, magnetization, resistivity, and muon spin resonance/relaxation ($μ$SR) measurements on polycrystalline samples of NCS La$_{7}$Pd$_{3}$. Transverse-field $μ$SR and heat capacity data show La$_{7}$Pd$_{3}$ is a type-II superconductor with a BCS-like gap structure, while zero-field $μ$SR results provide evidence of TRSB. We discuss the implications of…
We report the discovery of Zr$_3$Ir as a new type of unconventional noncentrosymmetric superconductor (with $T_c = 2.3$ K), here investigated mostly via muon-spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) techniques. Its superconductivity was characterized using magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and heat capacity measurements. The low-temperature superfluid density, determined via transverse-field $μ$SR and electronic specific heat, suggests a fully-gapped superconducting state. The spontaneous magnetic fields, revealed by zero-field $μ$SR below $T_c$, indicate the breaking of time-reversal s…
We argue that superconductivity in the coexistence region with spin-density-wave (SDW) order in weakly doped Fe-pnictides differs qualitatively from the ordinary $s^{+-}$ state outside the coexistence region, as it develops an additional gap component which is a mixture of intra-pocket singlet ($s^{++}$) and inter-pocket spin-triplet pairings (the $t-$state). The coupling constant for the $t-$channel is proportional to the SDW order and involves interactions that do not contribute to superconductivity outside of the SDW region. We argue that the $s^{+-}$ and $t-$type superconducting orders coe…
A Josephson junction consisting of an Anderson impurity weakly coupled with two-band and single-band superconductors exposes a time reversal breaking ground state when the coupling between the two bands exceeds a certain threshold. The critical regime occurs around local moment formation. This indicates a fundamental and distinct role of strong correlations: Driving a system into a time reversal breaking ground state. One of the observable consequences is that the impurity magnetization in this phase is reduced.
We study the pairing of fermions by an interaction consisting of a Hubbard repulsion, mimicking a screened Coulomb potential, and a dynamical phonon-mediated attraction. For such interaction, the gap equation allows even- and odd-frequency solutions $Δ_e$ and $Δ_o$. We show that odd-frequency pairing does not develop within the Eliashberg approximation due to over-critical pair-breaking from the self-energy. When vertex corrections are included, the pairing interaction gets stronger, and $Δ_o$ can develop. We argue that even in this case keeping the self-energy is still a must as it cancels ou…
The search for broken time reversal symmetry (TRSB) in unconventional superconductors intensified in the past year as more systems have been predicted to possess such a state. Following our pioneering study of TRSB states in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ using magneto-optic probes, we embarked on a systematic study of several other of these candidate systems. The primary instrument for our studies is the Sagnac magneto-optic interferometer, which we recently developed. This instrument can measure magneto-optic Faraday or Kerr effects with an unprecedented sensitivity of 10 nanoradians at temperatures as low a…
Recent experiments have pointed to a chiral p-wave-like superconductivity in epitaxial Bi/Ni bilayers that are spontaneously time-reversal symmetry breaking (TRSB), making it a promising platform for exploring physics useful for topologically protected quantum computing. Quite intriguingly, evidence has emerged that in non-epitaxial Bi/Ni bilayers, superconductivity arises due to the formation of NiBi3, which has been reported to host coexisting ferromagnetic and superconducting orders at the surface. We perform high resolution surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE) measurements using a Sag…
In this paper we study the order parameter and density of states near a grain boundary between two $d_{x^2-y^2}$ superconductors. We examine broken time reversal symmetry near the interface. In particular we show that, under suitable circumstances, time reversal symmetry must be broken even when the order parameter is purely $d_{x^2-y^2}$ everywhere in space.
Motivated by recent progress in the superconductivity nonreciprocal phenomena, we study the general theory of Josephson diodes. The central ingredient for Josephson diodes is the asymmetric proximity process inside the tunneling barrier. From the symmetry breaking point of view, there are two types of Josephson diodes, inversion breaking and time-reversal breaking. For the inversion breaking case, applying voltage bias could effectively tune the proximity process like the voltage-dependent Rashba coupling or electric polarization giving rise to $I_c(V)\neq I_c(-V)$ and $I_{r+}\neq I_{r-}$. For…
Recent mean-field calculations suggest that the superconducting state of twisted bilayer graphene exhibits either a nematic order or a spontaneous breakdown of the time-reversal symmetry. The two-dimensional character of the material and the large critical temperature relative to the Fermi energy dictate that the material should have significant fluctuations. We study the effects of these fluctuations using Monte Carlo simulations. We show that in a model proposed earlier for twisted bilayer graphene there is a fluctuation-induced phase with quadrupling fermionic order for all considered param…
We have investigated the superconducting state of the non-centrosymmetric compound Re6Zr using magnetization, heat capacity, and muon-spin relaxation/rotation (muSR) measurements. Re6Zr has a superconducting transition temperature, Tc = 6.75 K. Transverse-field muSR experiments, used to probe the superfluid density, suggest an s-wave character for the superconducting gap. However, zero and longitudinal-field muSR data reveal the presence of spontaneous static magnetic fields below Tc indicating that time-reversal symmetry is broken in the superconducting state and an unconventional pairing mec…
The single helical Fermi surface on the surface state of three-dimensional topological insulator Bi2Se3 is constrained by the time-reversal invariant bulk topology to possess a spin-singlet superconducting pairing symmetry. In fact, the Cu-doped, and pressure-tuned superconducting Bi2Se3 show no evidence of the time reversal symmetry breaking. We report on the detection of the time reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking in the topological superconductor Sr0.1Bi2Se3 , probed by zero-field (ZF) μSR measurements. The TRS breaking provides strong evidence for the existence of spin-triplet pairing state.…
We solve the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations self-consistently for d-wave superconductors with [110] surfaces. We find spontaneous breaking of time-reversal symmetry (TRS) caused by the spontaneous occurrence of a complex order parameter with an extended s-wave symmetry along the [110] surfaces. In the TRS-breaking phase, the d-wave order parameter itself becomes complex. We also show that vortex-antivortex pairs can appear along the [110] surfaces of nanoribbons. These pairs are detectable with surface sensitive probes.
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor Re$_{24}$Ti$_{5}$, a time-reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking candidate with $T_c = 6$\,K, was studied by means of muon-spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) and tunnel-diode oscillator (TDO) techniques. At a macroscopic level, its bulk superconductivity was investigated via electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements. The low-temperature penetration depth, superfluid density and electronic heat capacity all evidence an $s$-wave coupling with an enhanced superconducting gap. The spontaneous magnetic fields revealed by zero-field…
We investigate the nature of the time-reversal breaking pairing state in the hole-doped monolayer MoS$_{2}$ on the basis of the realistic three-orbital attractive Hubbard-like model with the atomic spin-orbit coupling. Due to the multi-band features arising from the Mo $d$ orbitals in the noncentrosymmetric crystal structure, the Lifshitz transition takes place upon hole doping. Across the Lifshitz transition point, the sign of the relative phase between the Cooper-pair components drastically changes, leading to the emergence of the time-reversal breaking phase with complex gap functions. It i…
We consider different effects that arise when time-reversal symmetry breaking superconductors are subjected to an external magnetic field, thus rendering the superconductor to be in the mixed state. We focus in particular on two time-reversal symmetry breaking order parameters which are believed to be realized in actual materials: $p+ıp'$-wave and $d+ıs$- or $d+ıd'$-wave. The first order parameter is relevant for Sr$_2$RuO$_4$, while the latter order parameters have been suggested to exist near surfaces in some of the high-$T_c$ cuprates. We investigate the interplay between surface states and…
We have investigated the superconducting state of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor Re6Ti (Tc = 6.0 K) using muon-spin rotation/relaxation (muSR) technique. The zero-field muon experiment shows the presence of spontaneous magnetic fields in the superconducting state, indicating time-reversal symmetry breaking (TRSB). However, the low-temperature transverse field muon measurements suggest nodeless s-wave superconductivity. The time reversal symmetry breaking further confirmed in the stoichiometric composition Re24Ti5. These results indicate that the pairing symmetry is not affected by spin-…
We propose a mechanism that helps stabilize a superconducting state with broken time-reversal symmetry, which was predicted to realize in a d-wave superconducting film [A. B. Vorontsov, Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 177001 (2009)]. In this superconducting phase, the time-reversal symmetry breaking is accompanied by spontaneous breaking of the translation symmetry along the film surface. We examine how the normal-superconducting phase boundary in the thickness-temperature phase diagram of the film is modified depending on the Fermi surface shape. In particular, the nonuniform superconducting phase is f…
We study the boundary Majorana modes for the single component p-wave weak topological superconductors or superfluids, which form zero energy flat bands protected by time-reversal symmetry in the orbital channel. However, due to the divergence of density of states, the band flatness of the edge Majorana modes is unstable under spontaneously generated spatial variations of Cooper pairing phases. Staggered current loops appear near the boundary and thus time-reversal symmetry is spontaneously broken in the orbital channel. This effect can appear in both condensed matter and ultra-cold atom system…
Noncentrosymmetric superconductors have sparked significant research interests due to their exciting properties, such as the admixture of spin-singlet and spin-triplet Cooper pairs. Here we report $μ$SR and thermodynamic measurements on the noncentrosymmetric superconductor La7Rh3 which indicate a fully established superconducting gap and spontaneous time-reversal-symmetry breaking at the onset of superconductivity. We show that our results pose severe constraints on any microscopic theory of superconductivity in the system. A symmetry analysis identifies ground states compatible with time-rev…
Zero and longitudinal field muon spin rotation (muSR) experiments were performed on the superconductors PrPt4Ge12 and LaPt4Ge12. In PrPt4Ge12 below Tc a spontaneous magnetization with a temperature variation resembling that of the superfluid density appears. This observation implies time-reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking in PrPt4Ge12 below Tc = 7.9 K. This remarkably high Tc for an anomalous superconductor and the weak and gradual change of Tc and of the related specific heat anomaly upon La substitution in La_(1-x)Pr_xPt_4Ge_(12) suggests that the TRS breaking is due to orbital degrees of free…
The discovery of new families of unconventional superconductors is important both experimentally and theoretically, especially if it challenges current models and thinking. By using muon spin relaxation in zero-field, time-reversal symmetry breaking has been observed in Re6Hf. Moreover, the temperature dependence of the superfluid density exhibits s-wave superconductivity with an enhanced electron-phonon coupling. This, coupled with the results from isostructural Re6Zr, shows that the Re6X family are indeed a new and important group of unconventional superconductors.
We have measured the field dependence of the Zero Bias Conductance Peak (ZBCP) of tunnel junctions prepared on (110) oriented Y1Ba2Cu3O7-d films of various thickness. We have found that the field splitting of the ZBCP, believed to be due to the Time Reversal Symmetry Breaking (TRSB) of Andreev surface bound states, is independent of film thickness. This rules out that Meissner screening currents are at the origin of TRSB. We conclude that TRSB must, instead, be due to a field-induced modification of the Order parameter. Different possibilities involving an imaginary component are discussed.
Recently, a theoretical study [Li {\it et al.},~npj Quantum Materials 6, 36 (2021)] investigated a model of a disordered $d$-wave superconductor, and reported local time-reversal symmetry breaking current loops for sufficiently high disorder levels. Since the pure $d$-wave superconducting state does not break time-reversal symmetry, it is surprising that such persistent currents arise purely from nonmagnetic disorder. Here we perform a detailed theoretical investigation of such disorder-induced orbital currents, and show that the occurrence of the currents can be traced to local extended $s$-w…
The collective mode spectrum of a symmetry-breaking state, such as a superconductor, provides crucial insight into the nature of the order parameter. In this context, we present a microscopic weak-coupling theory for the collective modes of a generic multi-component time-reversal symmetry breaking superconductor, and show that fluctuations in the relative amplitude and phase of the two order parameter components are well-defined underdamped collective modes, even in the presence of nodal quasiparticles. We then demonstrate that these "generalized clapping modes" can be detected using a number …
We propose a superconducting instability where microscopic supercurrent loops form spontaneously within a unit cell at the superconducting transition temperature with only uniform, onsite and intra-orbital singlet pairing. As a result of the circulating currents time-reversal symmetry is spontaneously broken in the superconducting state. Using Ginzburg-Landau theory, we describe in detail how these currents emerge in a toy model. We discuss the crystallographic symmetry requirements to realize such a state and show that they are met by the Re6X (X=Zr, Hf, Ti) family of time-reversal symmetry b…
We have performed zero-field muon spin rotation measurements on single crystals of La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4} to search for spontaneous currents in the pseudo-gap state. By comparing measurements on materials across the phase diagram, we put strict upper limits on any possible time-reversal symmetry breaking fields that could be associated with the pseudo-gap. Comparison between experimental limits and proposed circulating current states effectively eliminates the possibility that such states exist in this family of materials.
We study the impurity effect in the time reversal symmetry (${\cal T}$) breaking superconductor based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) equations. In ${\cal T}$-violating superconductors, spontaneous currents are induced around the impurity. The current patterns around the impurity reflect the structures of the Cooper pairs. We investigate impurity problem numerically for two kinds of ${\cal T}$ violating superconductors $(p_{x}\pm {\rm i}p_{y}$ and $d+{\rm i}s)$ and investigate the currents around the impurity. We also study the effects of the magnetic impurity in p-wave ($p_{x}\pm {\rm i}p_{…
In the recent search for unconventional- and topological superconductivity, noncentrosymmetric superconductors (NCSCs) rank among the most promising candidate materials. Surprisingly, some of them -- especially those containing rhenium -- seem to exhibit also time-reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking in their superconducting state, while TRS is preserved in many other isostructural NCSCs. To date, a satisfactory explanation for such discrepant behavior, albeit crucial for understanding the unconventional superconductivity of these materials, is still missing. Here we review the most recent develop…
We study the physical properties of an $s$-wave -- normal metal -- $d$-wave junction in terms of the Andreev bound states in the normal metal layer. The phase dependence of bound states with different orientations leads to superconducting states with broken time reversal symmetry for generic orientations of the $d$-wave superconductor crystal. The occurrence of such a state and the associated spontaneous supercurrent along the junction is analyzed in the framework of Ginzburg-Landau theory and by the solution of the Bogolyubov-de Gennes equations.
We consider mixed symmetry superconducting phases in Dirac materials in the odd parity channel, where pseudoscalar and vector order parameters can coexist due to their similar critical temperatures when attractive interactions are of finite range. We show that the coupling of these order parameters to unordered magnetic dopants favors the condensation of novel time-reversal symmetry breaking (TRSB) phases, characterized by a condensate magnetization, rotation symmetry breaking, and simultaneous ordering of the dopant moments. We find a rich phase diagram of mixed TRSB phases characterized by p…
We report the results of a zero-field muon spin relaxation (ZF-muSR) study of superconducting Ba1-xKxFe2As2 (0.5 < x < 0.9) in search of weak spontaneous internal magnetic fields associated with proposed time-reversal-symmetry breaking mixed pairing states. The measurements were performed on polycrystalline samples, which do not exhibit the mesoscopic phase separation previously observed in single crystals of Ba1-xKxFe2As2. No evidence of spontaneous internal magnetic fields is found in any of the samples at temperatures down to T ~ 0.02 K.
