In this note we give two small results concerning the correlations of the Selberg sieve weights. We then use these estimates to derive a new (conditional) lower bound on the variance of the primes in short intervals, and also on the so-called `form factor' for the pair correlations of the zeros of the Riemann zeta function. Our bounds ultimately rely on the estimates of Bettin--Chandee for trilinear Kloosterman fractions.
We develop a version of Ekedahl's geometric sieve for integral quadratic forms of rank at least five. As one ranges over the zeros of such quadratic forms, we use the sieve to compute the density of coprime values of polynomials, and furthermore, to address a question about local solubility in families of varieties parameterised by the zeros.
We give a simple proof of a standard zero-free region in the $t$-aspect for the Rankin--Selberg $L$-function $L(s,π\times \widetildeπ)$ for any unitary cuspidal automorphic representation $π$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{A}_F)$ that is tempered at every nonarchimedean place outside a set of Dirichlet density zero.
We obtain asymptotic formulas for the $2k$th moments of partially smoothed divisor sums of the Möbius function. When $2k$ is small compared with $A$, the level of smoothing, then the main contribution to the moments come from integers with only large prime factors, as one would hope for in sieve weights. However if $2k$ is any larger, compared with $A$, then the main contribution to the moments come from integers with quite a few prime factors, which is not the intention when designing sieve weights. The threshold for "small" occurs when $A=\frac 1{2k} \binom{2k}{k}-1$. One can ask analogous q…
By using a variant of Kowalski's large sieve for Frobenius in compatible systems, we obtain zero-density estimates for arguments of $\ell$-adic trace functions over finite fields with values in some algebraic subsets of the cyclotomic integers, when the monodromy groups are known. This applies in particular to hyper-Kloosterman sums and general exponential sums considered by Katz.
Let $\mathfrak{F}_n$ be the set of all cuspidal automorphic representations $π$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n$ over a number field with unitary central character. We prove two unconditional large sieve inequalities for the Hecke eigenvalues of $π\in\mathfrak{F}_n$, one on the integers and one on the primes. The second leads to the first unconditional zero density estimate for the family of $L$-functions $L(s,π)$ associated to $π\in\mathfrak{F}_n$, which we make log-free. As an application of the zero density estimate, we prove a hybrid subconvexity bound for $L(\frac{1}{2},π)$ for a density one subset of …
We establish new mean value theorems for primes of size $x$ in arithmetic progressions to moduli as large as $x^{3/5-ε}$ when summed with suitably well-factorable weights. This extends well-known work of Bombieri, Friedlander and Iwaniec, who handled moduli of size at most $x^{4/7-ε}$. This has consequences for the level of distribution for sieve weights coming from the linear sieve.
Assuming that there exist (infinitely many) Siegel zeros, we show that the (Rosser-)Jurkat-Richert bounds in the linear sieve cannot be improved, and similarly look at Iwaniec's lower bound on Jacobsthal's problem, as well as minor improvements to the Brun-Titchmarsh Theorem. We also deduce an improved (though conditional) lower bound on the longest gaps between primes, and rework Cramér's heuristic in this situation to show that we would expect gaps around $x$ that are significantly larger than $(\log x)^2$.
We prove a log-free zero density estimate for automorphic $L$-functions defined over a number field $k$. This work generalizes and sharpens the method of pseudo-characters and the large sieve used earlier by Kowalski and Michel. As applications, we demonstrate for a particular family of number fields of degree $n$ over $k$ (for any $n$) that an effective Chebotarev density theorem and a bound on $\ell$-torsion in class groups hold for almost all fields in the family.
Let $χ$ be a real primitive character to the modulus $D$. It is proved that $$ L(1,χ)\gg (\log D)^{-2022} $$ where the implied constant is absolute and effectively computable. In the proof, the lower bound for $L(1,χ)$ is first related to the distribution of zeros of a family of Dirichlet $L$-functions in a certain region, and some results on the gaps between consecutive zeros are derived. Then, by evaluating certain discrete means of the large sieve type, a contradiction can be obtained if $L(1,χ)$ is too small.
In this work and its sister paper [5] we give a new proof of the famous Linnik theorem bounding the least prime in an arithmetic progression. Using sieve machinery in both papers, we are able to dipense with the log-free zero density bounds and the repulsion property of exceptional zeros, two deep innovations begun by Linnik and reelied on in earlier proofs.

The classical heuristic complexity of the Number Field Sieve (NFS) is the solution of an optimization problem that involves an unknown function, usually noted $o(1)$ and called $ξ(N)$ throughout this paper, which tends to zero as the entry $N$ grows. The aim of this paper is to find optimal asymptotic choices of the parameters of NFS as $N$ grows, in order to minimize its heuristic asymptotic computational cost. This amounts to minimizing a function of the parameters of NFS bound together by a non-linear constraint. We provide precise asymptotic estimates of the minimizers of this optimization…
In this article, we construct differential modular forms for compact Shimura curves over totally real fields bigger than rational of non-zero integral weights that is not classical (of order zero) generalizing the construction of Buium [8].

Considering the family of $L$-functions $\{L(s,f)\}_{f \in H_k}$ where $H_k$ is the set of weight $k$ Hecke-eigen cusp forms for $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$, we prove a zero density estimate near the central point, valid as the weight $k \to \infty$. This is an ingredient in the author's related paper, which gives an unconditional upper bound on the distribution of the central values.
We study canonical bases for spaces of weakly holomorphic modular forms of level 4 and weights in $\mathbb{Z}+\frac{1}{2}$ and show that almost all modular forms in these bases have the property that many of their zeros in a fundamental domain for $Γ_0(4)$ lie on a lower boundary arc of the fundamental domain. Additionally, we show that at many places on this arc, the generating function for Hurwitz class numbers is equal to a particular mock modular Poincaré series, and show that for positive weights, a particular set of Fourier coefficients of cusp forms in this canonical basis cannot simult…
It is proved that any Rota---Baxter operator of zero weight on Jordan algebra of a nondegenerate bilinear symmetric form is nilpotent of index less or equal three. We state exact value of nilpotency index on simple Jordan algebra of Clifford type over fields $\mathbb{R}$, $\mathbb{C}$, and $\mathbb{Z}_p$. For $\mathbb{Z}_p$, we essentially use the results from number theory concerned quadratic residues and Chevalley---Warning theorem.
