In this work, we study the global existence of strong solutions and large-time behavior of a two-phase fluid model in a bounded domain. The model consists of the isothermal Euler equations and the isentropic compressible Navier--Stokes equations, coupled via the drag force. It was derived in [13[ from a kinetic-fluid model describing the dynamics of particles subject to local alignment force and Brownian noises immersed in a compressible viscous fluid. For this system, we extend the local existence theory for strong solutions developed in [13] to obtain the global existence of strong solutions to the system. Moreover, we use the Lyapunov functional associated with the system to get large-time behavior estimates for global classical solutions.
The aim of this paper is to show the existence of $\mathcal{R}$-bounded solution operator families for a generalized resolvent problem on the half-space arising from a compressible fluid model of Korteweg type. Such a compressible fluid model was derived by Dunn and Serrin (1985) and studied by Kotschote (2008) as an initial-boundary value problem.
The existence of weak solutions to the "viscous incompressible fluid + rigid body" system with Navier slip-with-friction conditions in a 3D bounded domain has been recently proved by Gérard-Varet and Hillairet in \cite{exi:GeH}. In 2D for a fluid alone (without any rigid body) it is well-known since Leray that weak solutions are unique, continuous in time with $ L^{2} $ regularity in space and satisfy the energy equality. In this paper we prove that these properties also hold for the 2D "viscous incompressible fluid + rigid body" system.
We consider the motion of a rigid body, governed by the Navier-Stokes equations in a bounded domain. Navier's condition is prescribed on the boundary of the body. We give the global in a time solvability result of weak solution. The result permits a possibility of collisions of the body with the boundary of the domain.
In this note we investigate the asymptotic behavior of plane shear thickening fluids around a bounded obstacle. Different from the Navier-Stokes case considered by Gilbarg-Weinberger in \cite{GW1978}, where the good structure of the vorticity can be exploited and weighted energy estimates can be applied, we have to overcome the nonlinear term of high order. The decay estimates of the velocity was obtained by combining Point-wise Behavior Theorem in \cite{Galdi} and Brezis-Gallouet inequality in \cite{BG1980} together, which is independent of interest.
We consider a free boundary problem of the Navier--Stokes equations in the three-dimensional Euclidean space with moving contact line, where the 90$^\circ$-contact angle condition is posed. We show that for given $T > 0$ the problem is local well-posed on $(0, T)$ provided that the initial data are small. In contrast to the strategy in Wilke (2013), we study the transformed problem in an $L^p$-in-time and $L^q$-in-space setting, which yields the optimal regularity of the initial data.
The article studies the transport equation that governes the motion of a fluid in a bounded domain, under the hypothesis of zero velocity at the boundary and supposing the incompressible nature of the fluid. Together with existence and uniqueness results, we study the DiPerna-Lions stability problem, in the case of a bounded domain.
We consider the stationary Stokes problem in a three-dimensional fluid domain $\mathcal F$ with non-homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We assume that this fluid domain is the complement of a bounded obstacle $\mathcal B$ in a bounded or an exterior smooth container $Ω$. We compute sharp asymptotics of the solution to the Stokes problem when the distance between the obstacle and the container boundary is small.
In this paper, we first prove the global existence of weak solutions to the d-dimensional incompressible inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations with initial data in critical Besov spaces, which satisfies a non-linear smallness condition. The regularity of the initial velocity is critical to the scaling of this system and is general enough to generate non-Lipschitz velocity field. Furthermore, with additional regularity assumption on the initial velocity or on the initial density, we can also prove the uniqueness of such solution. We should mention that the classical maximal regularity theorem f…
We are concerned with the existence and uniqueness of solutions with only bounded density for the barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Assuming that the initial velocity has slightly sub-critical regularity and that the initial density is a small perturbation (in the $L^\infty$ norm) of a positive constant, we prove the existence of local-in-time solutions. In the case where the density takes two constant values across a smooth interface (or, more generally, has striated regularity with respect to some nondegenerate family of vector-fields), we get uniqueness. This latter result su…
We consider the model of viscous compressible multi-fluids with multiple velocities. We review different formulations of the model and the existence results for boundary value problems. We analyze crucial mathematical difficulties which arise during the proof of the global existence theorems in 1D case.
In this paper, we study the global existence of classical solutions to the three dimensional ideal invicid compressible and heat conductive fluids with radial symmetrical data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^3)$. Our proof is based on the symmetric hyperbolic structure of the system.
In this paper we first employ the energetic variational method to derive a micro-macro model for compressible polymeric fluids. This model is a coupling of isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations with a nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation. We then prove the global in time existence of the smooth solution near the global equilibrium.
In this paper we construct small amplitude periodic internal waves traveling at the boundary region between two rotational and homogeneous fluids with different densities. Within a period, the waves we obtain have the property that the gradient of the stream function associated to the fluid beneath the interface vanishes, on the wave surface, at exactly two points. Furthermore, there exists a critical layer which is bounded from above by the wave profile. Besides, we prove, without excluding the presence of stagnation points, that if the vorticity function associated to each fluid in part is r…
This paper is concerned with a mathematical model which describes 2-D flows of an incompressible viscoelastic fluid of Oldroyd type in a bounded domain. We prove the existence and uniqueness theorem for global (in time) weak solutions and derive the energy equation.
Consider the set of equations describing Oldroyd-B fluids in an exterior domain. It is shown that this set of equations admits a unique, global solution in a certain function space provided the initial data, but not necessarily the coupling constant, is small enough.
In this paper, we prove the existence of global weak solutions to the compressible two-fluid Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensional space. The pressure depends on two different variables from the continuity equations. We develop an argument of variable reduction for the pressure law. This yields to the strong convergence of the densities, and provides the existence of global solutions in time, for the compressible two-fluid Navier-Stokes equations, with large data in three dimensional space.
We consider a coupled system consisting of the Navier-Stokes equations and a porous medium type of Keller-Segel system that model the motion of swimming bacteria living in fluid and consuming oxygen. We establish the global-in-time existence of weak solutions for the Cauchy problem of the system in dimension three. In addition, if the Stokes system, instead Navier-Stokes system, is considered for the fluid equation, we prove that bounded weak solutions exist globally in time.
We present a very simple proof of the global existence of a $C^\infty$ Lagrangian flow map for the 2D Euler and second-grade fluid equations (on a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary) which has $C^\infty$ dependence on initial data $u_0$ in the class of $H^s$ divergence-free vector fields for $s>2$.
We study an asymptotic analysis of a coupled system of kinetic and fluid equations. More precisely, we deal with the nonlinear Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equation coupled with the compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes system through a drag force in a bounded domain with the specular reflection boundary condition for the kinetic equation and homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition for the fluid system. We establish a rigorous hydrodynamic limit corresponding to strong noise and local alignment force. The limiting system is a type of two-phase fluid model consisting of the isothermal Euler system and…
We cope with a free boundary fluid-structure interaction model. In the model, the viscous incompressible fluid interacts with elastic body via the common boundary. The motion of the fluid is governed by Navier-Stokes equations while the displacement of elastic structure is described by variable coefficient wave equations. The dissipation is placed on the common boundary between fluid and elastic body. Given small initial data, the global existence of the solutions of this system is proved and the exponential decay of solutions are obtained.
A coupled kinetic-fluid model is investigated, which describes the dynamic behavior of an ensemble of Cucker-Smale flocking particles interacting with a viscous fluid in a three-dimensional bounded domain. This system consists of a kinetic Cucker-Smale equation and a compressible Navier-Stokes system with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. The global existence of weak solutions to this system with adiabatic coefficient $γ> {3}/{2}$ is established.
We consider the initial boundary value problem for a model system of one-dimensional equations which describe unsteady polytropic motions of a mixture of viscous compressible fluids. We prove the global existence and uniqueness theorem for the strong solution without restrictions on the structure of the viscosity matrix except standard properties of symmetry and positiveness.
In this paper, we consider the compressible fluid model of Korteweg type which can be used as a phase transition model. It is shown that the system admits a unique, global strong solution for small initial data in $\mathbb R^N$, $N \geq 3$. In this study, the main tools are the maximal $L_p$-$L_q$ regularity and $L_p$-$L_q$ decay properties of solutions to the linearized equations.
We study the global dynamics of isothermal fluids evolving in the domain of outer communication of a Schwarzschild black hole. We first formulate the initial value problem within a class of weak solutions with bounded variation (BV), possibly containing shock waves. We then introduce a version of the random choice method and establish a global-in-time existence theory for the initial value problem within the proposed class of weakly regular fluid flows. The initial data may have arbitrary large bounded variation and can possibly blow up near the horizon of the black hole. Furthermore, we study…
We provide a new proof for the global well-posedness of systems coupling fluids and polymers in two space dimensions. Compared to the well-known existing method based on the losing a priori estimates, our method is more direct and much simpler. The co-rotational FENE dumbbell model and the coupling Smoluchowski and Navier-Stokes equations are studied as examples to illustrate our main ideas.
We prove the existence of global weak solutions with finite energy to some two-fluid systems with magnetic field and the results suit for corresponding two-fluid systems. The proof method is mainly inspired by Novotný et al. and Vasseur et al. For $academic~magnetic~ bi\text{-}fluid~ system$, we focus on the case of pressure law with ideal gases and the new ingredient is that we can make the proof more explicit without using the preposed hypotheses and remove some unnecessary conditions of the main theorem in Novotný et al. Meanwhile, the same proof method can be used for $real~magnetic~bi\tex…
We investigate the stability and global existence of weak solutions to a free boundary problem governing the evolution of polymeric fluids. We construct weak solutions of the two-phase model by performing the asymptotic limit of a macroscopic model governing the suspensions of rod-like molecules (known as Doi-Model) in compressible fluids as the adiabatic exponent $γ$ goes to $\infty.$ The convergence of these solutions, up to a subsequence, to the free-boundary problem is established using techniques in the spirit of Lions and Masmoudi \cite{LionsMasmoudi-1999}.
Global classical solution for three-dimensional compressible isentropic magneto-micropolar fluid equations with Coulomb force and slip boundary condition in bounded domains
We consider a nonlinear, free boundary fluid-structure interaction model in a bounded domain. The viscous incompressible fluid interacts with a nonlinear elastic body on the common boundary via the velocity and stress matching conditions. The motion of the fluid is governed by incompressible Navier-Stokes equations while the displacement of elastic structure is determined by a nonlinear elastodynamic system with boundary dissipation. The boundary dissipation is inserted in the velocity matching condition. We prove the global existence of the smooth solutions for small initial data and obtain t…
In this paper, we study a new micro-macro model for a reactive polymeric fluid, which is derived recently in [Y. Wang, T.-F. Zhang, and C. Liu, \emph{J. Non-Newton. Fluid Mech.} 293 (2021), 104559, 13 pp], by using the energetic variational approach. The model couples the breaking/reforming reaction scheme of the microscopic polymers with other mechanical effects in usual viscoelastic complex fluids. We establish the global existence of classical solutions near the global equilibrium, in which the treatment on the chemo-mechanical coupling effect is the most crucial part. In particular, a weig…
In this paper, we consider the three dimensional Cauchy problem of the compressible micropolar viscous flows, we prove the existence of unique global classical solution for smooth initial data with small initial energy but possibly large oscillations, the initial density may allowed to contain vacuum states. Furthermore, the large-time behavior of the solution is obtained.
We study the generalized Oldroyd model with viscosity depending on the shear stress behaving like $μ(\mathbf{D}) \sim |\mathbf{D}|^{p-2}$ ($p>\frac 65$) regularized by a nonlinear stress diffusion. Using the Lipschitz truncation method we are able to prove global existence of weak solution to the corresponding system of partial differential equations.
We consider an viscous, incompressible Newtonian fluid flowing through a thin elastic structure. The motion of the structure is described by the equations of a linearised Koiter shell, whose motion is restricted to transverse displacements. The fluid and the structure are coupled by the continuity of velocities and an equilibrium of surface forces on the interface between fluid and structure. On a fixed in- and outflow region we prescribe natural boundary conditions. We show that weak solutions exist as long as the shell does not self-intersect.
In this paper we analyze the interaction of an incompressible Newtonian fluid with a linearly elastic Koiter shell whose motion is restricted to transverse displacements. The middle surface of the shell constitutes the mathematical boundary of the threedimensional fluid domain. We show that weak solutions exist as long as the magnitude of the displacement stays below some (possibly large) bound which is determined by the geometry of the undeformed shell.
We prove the global well-posedness for the 3-D micropolar fluid system in the critical Besov spaces by making a suitable transformation to the solutions and using the Fourier localization method, especially combined with a new $L^p$ estimate for the Green matrix to the linear system of the transformed equation. This result allows to construct global solutions for a class of highly oscillating initial data of Cannone's type. Meanwhile, we analyze the long behavior of the solutions and get some decay estimates.
We investigate global well-posedness to the Cauchy problem of three-dimensional compressible viscous and heat-conducting micropolar fluid equations with zero density at infinity. By delicate energy estimates, we establish global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions under some smallness condition depending only on the parameters appeared in the system and the initial mass. In particular, the initial mass can be arbitrarily large. This improves our previous work [23]. Moreover, we also generalize the result [13] to the case that vacuum is allowed at infinity.
This work is devoted to the global existence of weak solution for a general isothermal model of capillary fluids derived by C. Rohde, which can be used as a phase transition model. This article is structured in the following way: first of all inspired by the result by P.-L. Lions on the Navier-Stokes compressible system we will show the global stability of weak solutions for our system with isentropic pressure and next with general pressure. Next we will consider perturbations close to a stable equilibrium as in the case of strong solutions.
We study the generalized stationary Stokes system in a bounded domain in the plane equipped with perfect slip boundary conditions. We show natural stability results in oscillatory spaces, i.e. Hölder spaces and Campanato spaces including the border-line spaces of bounded mean oscillations (BMO) and vanishing mean oscillations (VMO). In particular, we show that under appropriate assumptions gradients of solutions are globally continuous. Since the stress tensor is assumed to be governed by a general Orlicz function, our theory includes various cases of (possibly degenerate) shear thickening and…
In this paper, we provide a much simplified proof of the main result in [Lin and Zhang, Comm. Pure Appl. Math.,67(2014), 531--580] concerning the global existence and uniqueness of smooth solutions to the Cauchy problem for a 3D incompressible complex fluid model under the assumption that the initial data are close to some equilibrium states. Beside the classical energy method, the interpolating inequalities and the algebraic structure of the equations coming from the incompressibility of the fluid are crucial in our arguments. We combine the energy estimates with the $L^\infty$ estimates for …
In this paper we consider the local and global well-posedness to the density-dependent incompressible viscoelastic fluids. We first study some linear models associated to the incompressible viscoelastic system. Then we approximate the system by a sequence of ordinary differential equations, by means of the Friedrichs method. Some uniform estimates for those solutions will be obtained. Using compactness arguments, we will get the local existence up to extracting a subsequence by means of Ascoli's lemma. With the help of small data conditions and hybird Besov spaces, we finally derive the global…
We consider the motion of an inviscid compressible fluid under the mutual interactions with magnetic field. We show that the initial value problem is ill--posed in the class of weak solutions for a large class of physically admissible data. We also consider the same problem for inviscid heat--conductive fluid and show the same result under certain restrictions imposed on the magnetic field. The main tool is the method of convex integration adapted to the Euler system with `variable coefficients'.
In this paper we analyze the interaction of an incompressible, generalized Newtonian fluid with a linearly elastic Koiter shell whose motion is restricted to transverse displacements. The middle surface of the shell constitutes the mathematical boundary of the three-dimensional fluid domain. We show that weak solutions exist as long as the magnitude of the displacement stays below some (possibly large) bound which is determined by the geometry of the undeformed shell.
The present paper deals with the nonhomogeneous incompressible asymmetric fluids equations in dimension $d= 2,3$. The aim is to prove the unique global solvability of the system with only bounded nonnegative initial density and $H^{1}$ initial velocities. We first construct the global existence of the solution with large data in 2-D. Next, we establish the existence of local in time solution for arbitrary large data and global in time for some smallness conditions in 3-D. Finally, the uniqueness of the solution is proved under quite soft assumptions about its regularity through a Lagrangian ap…
In this paper, we study the well-posedness in critical Besov spaces for two-fluid Euler-Maxwell equations, which is different from the one fluid case. We need to deal with the difficulties mainly caused by the nonlinear coupling and cancelation between two carriers. Precisely, we first obtain the local existence and blow-up criterion of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem and periodic problem pertaining to data in Besov spaces with critical regularity. Furthermore, we construct the global existence of classical solutions with aid of a different energy estimate (in comparison with the one…
We consider a Keller-Segel model coupled to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in spatial dimensions two and three. We establish the local existence of regular solutions and present some blow-up criteria for both cases that equations of oxygen concentration is of parabolic or hyperbolic type. We also prove global existence and decay estimate in time under the some smallness conditions of initial data.
This paper concerns the dynamics of two layers of compressible, barotropic, viscous fluid lying atop one another. The lower fluid is bounded below by a rigid bottom, and the upper fluid is bounded above by a trivial fluid of constant pressure. This is a free boundary problem: the interfaces between the fluids and above the upper fluid are free to move. The fluids are acted on by gravity in the bulk, and at the free interfaces we consider both the case of surface tension and the case of no surface forces. We prove that the problem is locally well-posed. Our method relies on energy methods in So…
We concern with the global existence and large time behavior of compressible fluids (including the inviscid gases, viscid gases, and Boltzmann gases) in an infinitely expanding ball. Such a problem is one of the interesting models in studying the theory of global smooth solutions to multidimensional compressible gases with time dependent boundaries and vacuum states at infinite time. Due to the conservation of mass, the fluid in the expanding ball becomes rarefied and eventually tends to a vacuum state meanwhile there are no appearances of vacuum domains in any part of the expansive ball, whic…
The global solutions with large initial data for the isothermal compressible fluid models of Korteweg type has been studied by many authors in recent years. However, little is known of global large solutions to the nonisothermal compressible fluid models of Korteweg type up to now. This paper is devoted to this problem, and we are concerned with the global existence of smooth and non-vacuum solutions with large initial data to the Cauchy problem of the one-dimensional nonisothermal compressible fluid models of Korteweg type. The case when the viscosity coefficient $μ(ρ)=ρ^α$, the capillarity c…

We study the global existence of a unique strong solution and its large-time behavior of a two-phase fluid system consisting of the compressible isothermal Euler equations coupled with compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes equations through a drag forcing term. The coupled system can be derived as the hydrodynamic limit of the Vlasov-Fokker-Planck/isentropic Navier-Stokes equations with strong local alignment forces. When the initial data is sufficiently small and regular, we establish the unique existence of the global $H^s$-solutions in a perturbation framework. We also provide the large-tim…
In my PhD thesis I show the existence of global-in-time weak solutions for a Navier-Stokes fluid interacting with a linearly elastic shell of Koiter type. This is achieved by the introduction of a new method for showing the compactness of bounded sequences of approximate weak solutions. This method might be of general interest in the study of fluid dynamical problems involving a free boundary. There is no damping term involved in the shell equations.
