This work is devoted to the global existence of weak solution for a general isothermal model of capillary fluids derived by C. Rohde, which can be used as a phase transition model. This article is structured in the following way: first of all inspired by the result by P.-L. Lions on the Navier-Stokes compressible system we will show the global stability of weak solutions for our system with isentropic pressure and next with general pressure. Next we will consider perturbations close to a stable equilibrium as in the case of strong solutions.

This work is devoted to prove existence of global weak solutions for a general isothermal model of capillary fluids derived by J.- E Dunn and J. Serrin (1985) [6], which can be used as a phase transition model. We improve the results of [5] by showing the existence of global weak solution in dimension two for initial data in the energy space, close to a stable equilibrium and with specific choices on the capillary coefficients. In particular we are interested in capillary coefficients approximating a constant capillarity coefficient. To finish we show the existence of global weak solution in d…
In this paper we construct periodic capillarity-gravity water waves with an arbitrary bounded vorticity distribution. This is achieved by reexpressing, in the height function formulation of the water wave problem, the boundary condition obtained from Bernoulli's principle as a nonlocal differential equation. This enables us to establish the existence of weak solutions of the problem by using elliptic estimates and bifurcation theory. Secondly, we investigate the a priori regularity of these weak solutions and prove that they are in fact strong solutions of the problem, describing waves with a …
Global weak solutions of 3D compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations subject to large external potential forces with discontinuous initial data and vacuum
We are concerned with an isothermal model of viscous and capillary compressible fluids derived by J. E. Dunn and J. Serrin (1985), which can be used as a phase transition model. Compared with the classical compressible Navier-Stokes equations, there is a smoothing effect on the density that comes from the capillary terms. First, we prove that the global solutions with critical regularity that have been constructed in [11] by the second author and B. Desjardins (2001), are Gevrey analytic. Second, we extend that result to a more general critical L p framework. As a consequence, we obtain algebr…
We consider an immiscible two-phase flow in a heterogeneous one-dimensional porous medium. We suppose particularly that the capillary pressure field is discontinuous with respect to the space variable. The dependence of the capillary pressure with respect to the oil saturation is supposed to be weak, at least for saturations which are not too close to 0 or 1. We study the asymptotic behavior when the capillary pressure tends to a function which does not depend on the saturation. In this paper, we show that if the capillary forces at the spacial discontinuities are oriented in the same directio…
The aim of this paper is to investigate the regime of high Mach number flows for compressible barotropic fluids of Korteweg type with density dependent viscosity. In particular we consider the models for isothermal capillary and quantum compressible fluids. For the capillary case we prove the existence of weak solutions and related properties for the system without pressure, and the convergence of the solution in the high Mach number limit. This latter is proved also in the quantum case for which a weak-strong uniqueness analysis is also discussed in the framework of the so-called "augmented" …
We are concerned with the Cahn-Hilliard/Navier-Stokes equations for the stationary compressible flows in a three-dimensional bounded domain. The governing equations consist of the stationary Navier-Stokes equations describing the compressible fluid flows and the stationary Cahn-Hilliard type diffuse equation for the mass concentration difference. We prove the existence of weak solutions when the adiabatic exponent $γ$ satisfies $γ>\frac{4}{3}$. The proof is based on the weighted total energy estimates and the new techniques developed to overcome the difficulties from the capillary stress.
This work is devoted to proving existence of global weak solutions for a general isothermal model of capillary fluids derived by J.E Dunn and J.Serrin (1985) \cite{3DS}, which can be used as a phase transition model. We distinguish two cases when the dimension N=2 and N=1, in the first case we need that $\frac{1}ρ\in L^{\infty}$, when N=1 we get a weak solution in finite time in the energy space.
In this paper we are interested in the barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes system endowed with a non-local capillarity tensor depending on a small parameter $ε$ such that it heuristically tends to the local Korteweg system. After giving some physical motivations related to the theory of non-classical shocks (see [28]) we prove global well-posedness (in the whole space $R^d$ with $d\geq 2$) for the non-local model and we also prove the convergence, as $ε$ goes to zero, to the solution of the local Korteweg system.
In this paper we consider the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations for a viscous compressible fluid with capillarity effects in three space dimensions. We prove compactness of finite energy weak solutions for large initial data. In contrast with previous results regarding this system, vacuum regions are allowed in the definition of weak solutions and no additional damping terms are considered. The compactness is obtained by introducing suitable truncations of the velocity field and the mass density at different scales and use only the a priori bounds obtained by the energy and the BD entropy.
In the present article we are interested in further investigations for the barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes system endowed with a non-local capillarity we studied in [7]. Thanks to an accurate study of the associated linear system using a Lagrangian change of coordinates, we provide more precise energy estimates in terms of hybrid Besov spaces naturally depending on a threshold frequency (which is determined in function of the physical parameter) distinguishing the low and the high regimes. It allows us in particular to prove the convergence of the solutions from the non-local to the loca…
We are concerned with the instability of a generic compressible two-fluid model in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^3$, where the capillary pressure $f(α^-ρ^-)=P^+-P^-\neq 0$ is taken into account. For the case that the capillary pressure is a strictly decreasing function near the equilibrium, namely, $f'(1)<0$, Evje-Wang-Wen established global stability of the constant equilibrium state for the three-dimensional Cauchy problem under some smallness assumptions. Recently, Wu-Yao-Zhang proved global stability of the constant equilibrium state for the case $P^+=P^-$ (corresponding to $f'(1)=0$). In th…
The present paper deals with the Cauchy problem of a compressible generic two-fluid model with capillarity effects in any dimension $N\geq2$. We first study the unique global solvability of the model in spaces with critical regularity indices with respect to the scaling of the associated equations. Due to the presence of the capillary terms, we exploit the parabolic properties of the linearized system for all frequencies which enables us to apply contraction mapping principle to show the unique global solvability of strong solutions close to a stable equilibrium state. Furthermore, under a mil…
Let $\mathcal{S} = \{ τ_n \}_{n=1}^\infty \subset (0,T)$ be an arbitrary countable (dense) set. We show that for any given initial density and momentum, the compressible Euler system admits (infinitely many) admissible weak solutions that are not strongly continuous at each $τ_n$, $n=1,2,\dots$. The proof is based on a refined version of the oscillatory lemma of De Lellis and Sz\' ekelyhidi with coefficients that may be discontinuous on a set of zero Lebesgue measure.
We study a one dimensional model for two-phase flows in heterogeneous media, in which the capillary pressure functions can be discontinuous with respect to space. We first give a model, leading to a system of degenerated non-linear parabolic equations spatially coupled by non linear transmission conditions. We approximate the solution of our problem thanks to a monotonous finite volume scheme. The convergence of the underlying discrete solution to a weak solution when the discretization step tends to 0 is then proven. We also show, under assumptions on the initial data, a uniform estimate on t…
This work is devoted to the study of the initial boundary value problem for a general non isothermal model of capillary fluids derived by J.E Dunn and J.Serrin (1985), which can be used as a phase transition model. We distinguish two cases, when the physical coefficients depend only on the density, and the general case. In the first case we can work in critical scaling spaces, and we prove global existence of solution and uniqueness for data close to a stable equilibrium. For general data, existence and uniqueness is stated on a short time interval. In the general case with physical coefficien…
We study the global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the three-dimensional compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes equations with vacuum and external potential forces which could be arbitrarily large provided the initial data is of small energy and the unique steady state is strictly away from vacuum. In particular, the solution may have large oscillations and contain vacuum states. For the case of discontinuous initial data, we also prove the global existence of weak solutions. The large-time behavior of the solution is obtained simultaneously. It is worthwhile mentioning that…
We study the gravity-driven flow of two fluid phases in a one-dimensional homogeneous porous column when history dependence of the pressure difference between the phases (capillary pressure) is taken into account. In the hyperbolic limit, solutions of such systems satisfy the Buckley-Leverett equation with a non-monotone flux function. However, solutions for the hysteretic case do not converge to the classical solutions in the hyperbolic limit in a wide range of situations. In particular, with Riemann data as initial condition, stationary shocks become possible in addition to classical compone…
On weak solutions to the 1d compressible Navier-Stokes equations: a Lipschitz continuous dependence on data in weaker norms and an error of their homogenization
We consider a one-dimensional problem modeling two-phase flow in heterogeneous porous media made of two homogeneous subdomains, with discontinuous capillarity at the interface between them. We suppose that the capillary forces vanish inside the domains, but not on the interface. Under the assumption that the gravity forces and the capillary forces are oriented in opposite directions, we show that the limit, for vanishing diffusion, is not in general the optimal entropy solution of the hyperbolic scalar conservation law as in the first paper of the series \cite{NPCX}. A non-classical shock can …
In this paper, we investigate a generic compressible two-fluid model with common pressure ($P^+=P^-$) in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Under some smallness assumptions, Evje-Wang-Wen [Arch Rational Mech Anal 221:1285--1316, 2016] obtained the global solution and its optimal decay rate for the 3D compressible two-fluid model with unequal pressures $P^+\neq P^-$. More precisely, the capillary pressure $f(α^-ρ^-)=P^+-P^-\neq 0$ is taken into account, and is assumed to be a strictly decreasing function near the equilibrium. As indicated by Evje-Wang-Wen, this assumption played an key role in their analysis and …
We present a novel technique for the imposition of non-linear entropy conservative and entropy stable solid wall boundary conditions for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the presence of an adiabatic wall, or a wall with a prescribed heat entropy flow. The procedure relies on the formalism and mimetic properties of diagonal-norm, summation-by-parts, and simultaneous-approximation-term operators, and is a generalization of previous works on discontinuous interface coupling [1] and solid wall boundary conditions [2]. Using the method of lines, a semi-discrete entropy estimate for the e…
Formulated by Blesgen and Lowengrub and Truskinovsky, the `Navier-Stokes-Allen-Cahn' (NSAC) equations and the `Navier-Stokes-Cahn-Hilliard' (NSCH) equations describe diphasic fluid flow, combining the conservation laws for mass, momentum, and energy with a balance law for the phases, which governs the concentration of one, and thus the other, phase as an order parameter. By contrast, the `Navier-Stokes-Korteweg' (NSK) theory for the dynamics of a one-phase capillary fluid, given by Dunn and Serrin following Korteweg and Slemrod, uses only the three said conservation laws and has the mass densi…
We establish the global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the three-dimensional full compressible Navier-Stokes system with smooth initial data which are of small energy but possibly large oscillations where the initial density is allowed to vanish. Moreover, for the initial data which may be discontinuous and contain vacuum states, we also obtain the global existence of weak solutions. These results generalize previous ones on classical and weak solutions for initial density being strictly away from vacuum, and are the first for global classical and weak solutions which may h…
