In this article, using the weighted discrete least-squares, we propose a patch reconstruction finite element space with only one degree of freedom per element. As the approximation space, it is applied to the discontinuous Galerkin methods with the upwind scheme for the steady-state convection-diffusion-reaction problems over polytopic meshes. The optimal error estimates are provided in both diffusion-dominated and convection-dominated regimes. Furthermore, several numerical experiments are presented to verify the theoretical error estimates, and to well approximate boundary layers and/or internal layers.

We present a stability analysis of the Discontinuous Galerkin method on polygonal and polyhedral meshes (PolyDG) for the Stokes problem. In particular, we analyze the discrete inf-sup condition for different choices of the polynomial approximation order of the velocity and pressure approximation spaces. Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods are extensions of the usual Galerkin finite element methods. Although there are vast amount of studies on DG methods, most of them have assumed shape-regularity conditions on meshes for both theoretical error analysis and practical computations. In this paper, we present a new symmetric interior penalty DG scheme with a modified penalty term. We show that, without imposing the shape-regularity condition on the meshes, the new DG scheme inherits all of the good properties of standard DG methods, and is thus robust on anisotropic meshes. We present a geometric multigrid solver for the Compact Discontinuous Galerkin method through building a hierarchy of coarser meshes using a simple agglomeration method which handles arbitrary element shapes and dimensions. The method is easily extendable to other discontinuous Galerkin discretizations, including the Local DG method and the Interior Penalty method. We demonstrate excellent solver performance for Poisson's equation, provided a flux formulation is used for the operator coarsening and a suitable switch function chosen for the numerical fluxes.
In this paper we present an immersed weak Galerkin method for solving second-order elliptic interface problems on polygonal meshes, where the meshes do not need to be aligned with the interface. The discrete space consists of constants on each edge and broken linear polynomials satisfying the interface conditions in each element.
