We prove semiclassical estimates for the Schr\''odinger-von Neumann evolution with $C^{1,1}$ potentials and density matrices whose square root have either Wigner functions with low regularity independent of the dimension, or matrix elements between Hermite functions having long range decay. The estimates are settled in different weak topologies and apply to initial density operators whose square root have Wigner functions $7$ times differentiable, independently of the dimension. They also apply to the $N$ body quantum dynamics uniformly in $N$. In a appendix, we finally estimate the dependence in the dimension of the constant appearing on the Calderon-Vaillancourt Theorem.
We establish uniform bounds for the solutions $e^{itΔ}u$ of the Schrödinger equation on arithmetic flat tori, generalising earlier results by J. Bourgain. We also study the regularity properties of weak-* limits of sequences of densities of the form $|e^{itΔ}u_{n}|^{2}$ corresponding to highly oscillating sequences of initial data $(u_{n})$. We obtain improved regularity properties of those limits using previous results by N. Anantharaman and F. Macià on the structure of semiclassical measures for solutions to the Schrödinger equation on the torus.
We develop a semiclassical second microlocal calculus of pseudodifferential operators associated to linear coisotropic submanifolds $\mathcal{C}\subset T^* \mathbb{T}^n$, where $\mathbb{T}^n = \mathbb{R}^n / \mathbb{Z}^n$. First microlocalization is localization in phase space $T^* \mathbb{T}^n$; second microlocalization is finer localization near a submanifold of $T^* \mathbb{T}^n$. Our second microlocal operators test distributions on $\mathbb{T}^n$ (e.g., Laplace eigenfunctions) for a coisotropic wavefront set, a second microlocal measure of absence of \emph{coisotropic regularity}. This wa…
We develop a second-microlocal calculus of pseudodifferential operators in the semiclassical setting. These operators test for Lagrangian regularity of semiclassical families of distributions on a manifold $X$ with respect to a Lagrangian submanifold of $T^*X.$ The construction of the calculus, closely analogous to one performed by Bony in the setting of homogeneous Lagrangians, proceeds via the consideration of a model case, that of the zero section of $T^*\mathbb{R}^n,$ and conjugation by appropriate Fourier integral operators. We prove a propagation theorem for the associated wavefront set …
We obtain new semiclassical estimates for pseudodifferential operators with low regular symbols. Such symbols appear naturally in a Cauchy Problem related to recent weak solutions to the unstable Muskat problem constructed via convex integration in [CCF16]. In particular, our new estimates reveal the tight relation between the speed of opening of the mixing zone and the regularity of the interphase.
Let $P_h$ be a self-adjoint semiclassical pseudodifferential operator on a manifold $M$ such that the bicharacteristic flow of the principal symbol on $T^*M$ is completely integrable and the subprincipal symbol of $P_h$ vanishes. Consider a semiclassical family of eigenfunctions, or, more generally, quasimodes $u_h$ of $P_h.$ We show that on a nondegenerate rational invariant torus, Lagrangian regularity of $u_h$ (regularity under test operators characteristic on the torus) propagates both along bicharacteristics, and also in an additional ``diffractive'' manner. In particular, in addition to …
Wigner and Husimi transforms have long been used for the phase-space reformulation of Schrödinger-type equations, and the study of the corresponding semiclassical limits. Most of the existing results provide approximations in appropriate weak topologies. In this work we are concerned with semiclassical limits in the strong topology, i.e. approximation of Wigner functions by solutions of the Liouville equation in $L^2$ and Sobolev norms. The results obtained improve the state of the art, and highlight the role of potential regularity, especially through the regularity of the Wigner equation. It…
We consider a nonlinear evolution problem with an asymptotic parameter and construct examples in which the linearized operator has spectrum uniformly bounded away from Re z >= 0 (that is, the problem is spectrally stable), yet the nonlinear evolution blows up in short times for arbitrarily small initial data. We interpret the results in terms of semiclassical pseudospectrum of the linearized operator: despite having the spectrum in Re z < -c < 0, the resolvent of the linearized operator grows very quickly in parts of the region Re z > 0. We also illustrate the results numerically.
We establish sharp geometric $C^{1+α}$ regularity estimates for bounded weak solutions of evolution equations of $p$-Laplacian type. Our approach is based on geometric tangential methods, and makes use of a systematic oscillation mechanism combined with an adjusted intrinsic scaling argument.
Our goal is to establish a hidden regularity result for solutions of time fractional Petrovsky system where the Caputo fractional derivative is of order $α\in(1,2)$. We achieve such result for a suitable class of weak solutions.
We consider parabolic nonlocal Venttsel' problems in polygonal and piecewise smooth two-dimensional domains and study existence, uniqueness and regularity in (anisotropic) weighted Sobolev spaces of the solution.
In this paper, we investigate abstract time-fractional evolution equations with nonlinear perturbations. We construct solutions of Lipschitz perturbation problems in arbitrary large time interval independent of the Lipschitz constants. We will extend well-known results for standard evolution equations such as the blow-up alternative, to the time-fractional evolution equations. We also prove the differentiability with respect to time of the solution when the perturbation is sufficiently smooth. The differentiability enables us to use the maximum principle. The theory on general Banach spaces en…
Spatial regularity properties of certain global-in-time solutions of the Zakharov system are established. In particular, the evolving solution $u(t)$ is shown to satisfy an estimate $\Hsup s {u(t)} \leq C {{|t|}^{(s-1)+}}$, where $H^s$ is the standard spatial Sobolev norm. The proof is an adaptation of earlier work on the nonlinear Schrödinger equation which reduces matters to bilinear estimates.
We continue the study of a dynamic evolution model for perfectly plastic plates, recently derived from three-dimensional Prandtl-Reuss plasticity. We extend the previous existence result by introducing non-zero external forces in the model, and we discuss the regularity of the solutions thus obtained. In particular, we show that the first derivatives with respect to space of the stress tensor are locally square integrable.
We report on a time regularity result for stochastic evolutionary PDEs with monotone coefficients. If the diffusion coefficient is bounded in time without additional space regularity we obtain a fractional Sobolev type time regularity of order up to $\tfrac{1}{2}$ for a certain functional $ G( u )$ of the solution. Namely, $ G( u )=\nabla u $ in the case of the heat equation and $G( u )=|\nabla u |^{\frac{p-2}{2}}\nabla u $ for the $p$-Laplacian. The motivation is twofold. On the one hand, it turns out that this is the natural time regularity result that allows to establish the optimal rates o…
We consider the maximal regularity problem for non-autonomous evolution equations \begin{equation} \left\{ \begin{array}{rcl} u'(t) + A(t)\,u(t) &=& f(t), \ t \in (0, τ] u(0)&=&u_0. \end{array} \right. \end{equation} Each operator $A(t)$ is associated with a sesquilinear form $\mathfrak{a}(t)$ on a Hilbert space $H$. We assume that these forms all have the same domain $V$. It is proved in \cite{HO14} that if the forms have some regularity with respect to $t$ (e.g., piecewise $α$-Hölder continuous for some $α> 1/2$) then the above problem has maximal $L_p$--regularity for all $u_0 $ in the real…
In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for semilinear $σ$-evolution models with an exponential decay memory term. Concerning the corresponding linear Cauchy problem, we derive some regularity-loss-type estimates of solutions and generalized diffusion phenomena. Particularly, the obtained estimations for solutions are sharper than those in the previous paper [20]. Then, we determine the critical exponents for the semilinear Cauchy problem with power nonlinearity in some spatial dimensions by proving global (in time) existence of Sobolev solutions with low regularity of fractional orders …
We consider the vortex patch problem for both the 2-D and 3-D incompressible Euler equations. In 2-D, we prove that for vortex patches with $H^{k-0.5}$ Sobolev-class contour regularity, $k \ge 4$, the velocity field on both sides of the vortex patch boundary has $H^k$ regularity for all time. In 3-D, we establish existence of solutions to the vortex patch problem on a finite-time interval $[0,T]$, and we simultaneously establish the $H^{k-0.5}$ regularity of the two-dimensional vortex patch boundary, as well as the $H^k$ regularity of the velocity fields on both sides of vortex patch boundary,…
It is known that solutions of nonlocal dispersal evolution equations do not become smoother in space as time elapses. This lack of space regularity would cause a lot of difficulties in studying transition fronts in nonlocal equations. In the present paper, we establish some general criteria concerning space regularity of transition fronts in nonlocal dispersal evolution equations with a large class of nonlinearities, which allows the applicability of various techniques for reaction-diffusion equations to nonlocal equation, and hence serves as an initial and fundamental step for further studyin…
The semiclassical long-time limit of free evolution of quantum wave packets on the torus is under consideration. Despite of simplicity of this system, there are still open questions concerning the detailed description of the evolution on time scales beyond the Ehrenfest time. One of the approaches is based on the limiting Wigner or Husimi distributions of time-evolved wave packets as the Planck constant tends to zero and time tends to infinity. We derive explicit expressions for semiclassical measures corresponding to all time scales and the corresponding stages of evolution: classical-like mo…
We present a time dependent quantum perturbation result, uniform in the Planck constant, for perturbations of potentials whose gradients are Lipschitz continuous by potentials whose gradients are only bounded a.e.. Though this low regularity of the full potential is not enough to provide the existence of the classical underlying dynamics, at variance with the quantum one, our result shows that the classical limit of the perturbed quantum dynamics remains in a tubular neighbourhood of the classical unperturbed one of size of order of the square root of the size of the perturbation. We treat bot…
We consider a heat-type operator L structured on the left invariant 1-homogeneous vector fields which are generators of a Carnot group, multiplied by a uniformly positive matrix of bounded measurable coefficients depending only on time. We prove that if Lu is smooth with respect to the space variables, the same is true for u, with quantitative regularity estimates in the scale of Sobolev spaces defined by right invariant vector fields. Moreover, the solution and its space derivatives satisfy a 1/2-Hölder continuity estimate with respect to time. The result is proved both for weak solutions and…
We introduce a modified Schrödinger operator where the semiclassical Laplacian is perturbed by artificial interface conditions occurring at the boundaries of the potential's support. The corresponding dynamics is analysed in the regime of quantum wells in a semiclassical island. Under a suitable energy constraint for the initial states, we show that the time propagator is stable w.r.t. the non-selfadjont perturbation, provided that this is parametrized through infinitesimal functions of the semiclassical parameter 'h'. It has been recently shown that h-dependent artificial interface conditions…
We consider solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for a potential localised at the points of a Poisson process. We prove convergence of the phase-space distribution in the annealed Boltzmann-Grad limit to a semiclassical Wigner (or defect) measure and show that it is a solution of the linear Boltzmann equation. Our results hold for a large class of square-integrable initial data associated to Wigner measures, including Langragian states, WKB states and coherent states. This extends important previous work by Eng and Erdős.
In this paper we prove maximal $L^p$-regularity for a system of parabolic PDEs, where the elliptic operator $A$ has coefficients which depend on time in a measurable way and are continuous in the space variable. The proof is based on operator-theoretic methods and one of the main ingredients in the proof is the construction of an evolution family on weighted $L^q$-spaces.
In this paper, we establish the well-posedness and optimal trajectory regularity for the solution of stochastic evolution equations with generalized Lipschitz-type coefficients driven by general multiplicative noises. To ensure the well-posedness of the problem, the linear operator of the equations is only need to be a generator of a $\CC_0$-semigroup and the proposed noises are quite general, which include space-time white noise and rougher noises. When the linear operator generates an analytic $\CC_0$-semigroup, we derive the optimal trajectory regularity of the solution through a generalize…
In this article we develop a framework for studying parabolic semilinear stochastic evolution equations (SEEs) with singularities in the initial condition and singularities at the initial time of the time-dependent coefficients of the considered SEE. We use this framework to establish existence, uniqueness, and regularity results for mild solutions of parabolic semilinear SEEs with singularities at the initial time. We also provide several counterexample SEEs that illustrate the optimality of our results.
We provide regularity of solutions to a large class of evolution equations on Banach spaces where the generator is composed of a static principal part plus a non-autonomous perturbation. Regularity is examined with respect to the graph norm of the iterations of the principal part. The results are applied to the Schrödinger equation and conditions on a time-dependent scalar potential for regularity of the solution in higher Sobolev spaces are derived.
In this paper, we prove the well-posedness and op- timal trajectory regularity for the solution of stochastic evolution equations driven by general multiplicative noises in martingale type 2 Banach spaces. The main idea of our method is to combine the approach in [HL] dealing with Hilbert setting and a version of Burkholder inequality in M-type 2 Banach space. Applying our main results to the stochastic heat equation gives a positive an- swer to an open problem proposed in [JR12].
We consider the maximal regularity problem for non-autonomous evolution equations of the form $u(t) + A(t) u(t) = f(t)$ with initial data $u(0) = u\_0$ . Each operator $A(t)$ is associated with a sesquilinear form $a(t; *, *)$ on a Hilbert space $H$ . We assume that these forms all have the same domain and satisfy some regularity assumption with respect to t (e.g., piecewise $α$-H{ö}lder continuous for some $α\textgreater{} 1/2$). We prove maximal Lp-regularity for all initial values in the real-interpolation space $(H, D(A(0)))\_{1/p,p}$ . The particular case where $p = 2$ improves previously…
Existence and uniqueness of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation in dimension two with forces in the space $L^q( (0,T); \mathbf{W}^{-1,p}(Ω))$ for $p$ and $q$ in appropriate parameter ranges are proven. The case of spatially measured-valued inhomogeneities is included. For the associated Stokes equation the well-posedness results are verified in arbitrary dimensions with $1 < p, q < \infty$ arbitrary.
We prove existence of strongly continuous evolution systems in L^2 for Schroedinger-type equations with non-Lipschitz coefficients in the principal part. The underlying operator structure is motivated from models of paraxial approximations of wave propagation in geophysics. Thus, the evolution direction is a spatial coordinate (depth) with additional pseudodifferential terms in time and low regularity in the lateral variables. We formulate and analyze the Cauchy problem in distribution spaces with mixed regularity. The key point in the evolution system construction is an elliptic regularity re…
In this article, we consider fixed spin-1/2 particles interacting through the quantized electromagnetic field in a constant magnetic field. We give approximate evolutions of coherent states. This uses spins-photon classical Hamiltonian mechanics. These approximations enable to derive that the approximate average fields and spins follow Maxwell-Bloch equations with a current density coming from spins. In addition, we obain a law concerning the evolution of the approximate average number of photons. Next, we provide stationary points of the spins-photon Hamiltonian when the spin particles belong…
