We provide an equivalence between the dg category of coherent matrix factorizations and a certain dg category of absolute singularities. As an application, we compute the l-adic cohomology of the dg category of coherent matrix factorizations, as well as its Hochschild and periodic cyclic homologies (these last two only in the affine case).
We argue how boundary B-type Landau-Ginzburg models based on matrix factorizations can be used to compute exact superpotentials for intersecting D-brane configurations on compact Calabi-Yau spaces. In this paper, we consider the dependence of open-string, boundary changing correlators on bulk moduli. This determines, via mirror symmetry, non-trivial disk instanton corrections in the A-model. As crucial ingredient we propose a differential equation that involves matrix analogs of Saito's higher residue pairings. As example, we compute from this for the elliptic curve certain quantum products m_…
We prove a theorem on how a conclusion on homological dimension of a family of coherent sheaves over a scheme can be done from homological dimension of the restriction of this family to the reduction of the base.
This is an expository article describing recent results of the authors and David Nadler on microlocalization, the Fukaya category, and coherent sheaves on toric varieties. The original papers are arXiv:math/0604379, arXiv:math/0612399 and arXiv:0811.1228v1.
In 1977, Orlik--Randell construct a nice integral basis of the middle homology group of the Milnor fiber associated to an invertible polynomial of chain type and they conjectured that it is represented by a distinguished basis of vanishing cycles. The purpose of this paper is to prove the algebraic counterpart of the Orlik--Randell conjecture. Under the homological mirror symmetry, we may expect that the triangulated category of maximally-graded matrix factorizations for the Berglund--Hübsch transposed polynomial admits a full exceptional collection with a nice numerical property. Indeed, we s…
We describe the Kuznetsov component of the Plücker embedding of the Grassmannian as a category of matrix factorizations on an noncommutative crepant resolution (NCCR) of the affine cone of the Grassmannian. We also extend this to a full homological projective dual (HPD) statement for the Plücker embedding. The first part is finding and describing the NCCR, which is also of independent interest. We extend results of Špenko and Van den Bergh to prove the existence of an NCCR for the affine cone of the Grassmannian. We then relate this NCCR to a categorical resolution of Kuznetsov. Deforming thes…
We provide a construction of free factorization algebras in algebraic geometry and link factorization homology of a scheme with coefficients in a free factorization algebra to the homology of its (unordered) configuration spaces. As an application, this construction allows for a purely algebro-geometric proof of homological stability of configuration spaces.
This paper gives a new way of constructing Landau-Ginzburg mirrors using deformation theory of Lagrangian immersions motivated by the works of Seidel, Strominger-Yau-Zaslow and Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono. Moreover we construct a canonical functor from the Fukaya category to the mirror category of matrix factorizations. This functor derives homological mirror symmetry under some explicit assumptions. As an application, the construction is applied to spheres with three orbifold points to produce their quantum-corrected mirrors and derive homological mirror symmetry. Furthermore we discover an enumerativ…
We prove the homological mirror conjecture for toric del Pezzo surfaces. In this case, the mirror object is a regular function on an algebraic torus. We show that the derived Fukaya category of this mirror coincides with the derived category of coherent sheaves on the original manifold.
Burban-Drozd showed that the degenerate cusp singularities have tame Cohen-Macaulay representation type, and classified all indecomposable Cohen-Macaulay modules over them. One of their main example is the non-isolated singularity $W=xyz$. On the other hand, Abouzaid-Auroux-Efimov-Katzarkov-Orlov showed that $W=xyz$ is mirror to a pair of pants. In this paper, we investigate homological mirror symmetry of these indecomposable Cohen-Macaulay modules for $xyz$. Namely, we show that closed geodesics (with a flat $\mathbb{C}$-bundle) of a hyperbolic pair of pants have a one-to-one correspondence w…
We introduce new enhancements for the bounded derived category $D^b(Coh(X))$ of coherent sheaves on a suitable scheme $X$ and for its subcategory $Perf(X)$ of perfect complexes. They are used for translating Fourier-Mukai functors to functors between derived categories of dg algebras, for relating homological smoothness of $Perf(X)$ to geometric smoothness of $X,$ and for proving homological smoothness of $D^b(Coh(X)).$ Moreover, we characterize properness of $Perf(X)$ and $D^b(Coh(X))$ geometrically.
We study versions of homological mirror symmetry for hypersurface cusp singularities and the three hypersurface simple elliptic singularities. We show that the Milnor fibres of each of these carries a distinguished Lefschetz fibration; its derived directed Fukaya category is equivalent to the derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth rational surface $Y_{p,q,r}$. By using localization techniques on both sides, we get an isomorphism between the derived wrapped Fukaya category of the Milnor fibre and the derived category of coherent sheaves on a quasi-projective surface given by deleting …
We leverage the results of the prequel in combination with a theorem of D. Orlov to yield some results in Hodge theory of derived categories of factorizations and derived categories of coherent sheaves on varieties. In particular, we provide a conjectural geometric framework to further understand M. Kontsevich's Homological Mirror Symmetry conjecture. We obtain new cases of a conjecture of Orlov concerning the Rouquier dimension of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth variety. Further, we introduce actions of $A$-graded commutative rings on triangulated categories and t…
We construct a semiorthogonal decomposition of the derived category of coherent sheaves on a quadric fibration consisting of several copies of the derived category of the base of the fibration and the derived category of coherent sheaves of modules over the sheaf of even parts of the Clifford algebras on the base corresponding to this quadric fibration, generalizing the Kapranov's description of the derived category of a single quadric. As an application we verify that the noncommutative algebraic variety $(\PP(S^2W^*),\CB_0)$, where $\CB_0$ is the universal sheaf of even parts of Clifford alg…
Given a polynomial $W$ with an isolated singularity, we can consider the Jacobian ring as an invariant of the singularity. If in addition we have a group action on the polynomial ring with $W$ fixed, we are led to consider the twisted Jacobian ring which reflects the equivariant structure as well. Our main result is to show that the twisted Jacobian ring is isomorphic to an endomorphism ring of the "twisted diagonal" matrix factorization. As an application, we suggest a way to investigate Floer theory of Lagrangian submanifolds which represent homological mirror functors.
We formulate a constructive theory of noncommutative Landau-Ginzburg models mirror to symplectic manifolds based on Lagrangian Floer theory. The construction comes with a natural functor from the Fukaya category to the category of matrix factorizations of the constructed Landau-Ginzburg model. As applications, it is applied to elliptic orbifolds, punctured Riemann surfaces and certain non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds to construct their mirrors and functors. In particular it recovers and strengthens several interesting results of Etingof-Ginzburg, Bocklandt and Smith, and gives a unified under…
We prove Homological Mirror Symmetry for a smooth d-dimensional Calabi-Yau hypersurface in projective space, for any d > 2 (for example, d = 3 is the quintic three-fold). The main techniques involved in the proof are: the construction of an immersed Lagrangian sphere in the `d-dimensional pair of pants'; the introduction of the `relative Fukaya category', and an understanding of its grading structure; a description of the behaviour of this category with respect to branched covers (via an `orbifold' Fukaya category); a Morse-Bott model for the relative Fukaya category that allows one to make ex…
The present paper is an extension of a previous paper written in collaboration with Markus Reineke dealing with quiver representations. The aim of the paper is to generalize the theory and to provide a comprehensive theory of Donaldson-Thomas invariants for abelian categories of homological dimension one (without potential) satisfying some technical conditions. The theory will apply for instance to representations of quivers, coherent sheaves on smooth projective curves, and some coherent sheaves on smooth projective surfaces. We show that the (motivic) Donaldson-Thomas invariants satisfy the …
We define the triangulated category of relative singularities of a closed subscheme in a scheme. When the closed subscheme is a Cartier divisor, we consider matrix factorizations of the related section of a line bundle, and their analogues with locally free sheaves replaced by coherent ones. The appropriate exotic derived category of coherent matrix factorizations is then identified with the triangulated category of relative singularities, while the similar exotic derived category of locally free matrix factorizations is its full subcategory. The latter category is identified with the kernel o…
We introduce the notion of ungraded matrix factorization as a mirror of non-orientable Lagrangian submanifolds. An ungraded matrix factorization of a polynomial $W$, with coefficients in a field of characteristic 2, is a square matrix $Q$ of polynomial entries satisfying $Q^2 = W \cdot \mathrm{Id}$. We then show that non-orientable Lagrangians correspond to ungraded matrix factorizations under the localized mirror functor and illustrate this construction in a few instances. Our main example is the Lagrangian submanifold $\mathbb{R}P^2 \subset \mathbb{C}P^2$ and its mirror ungraded matrix facto…
For a given Fourier-Mukai equivalence of bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves on smooth quasi-projective varieties, we construct Fourier-Mukai equivalences of derived factorization categories of gauged Landau-Ginzburg (LG) models. As an application, we obtain some equivalences of derived factorization categories of K-equivalent gauged LG models. This result is an equivariant version of the result of Baranovsky and Pecharich, and it also gives a partial answer to Segal's conjecture. As another application, we prove that if the kernel of the Fourier-Mukai equivalence is linearizable wi…
We study hybrid models arising as homological projective duals (HPD) of certain projective embeddings $f:X\rightarrow\mathbb{P}(V)$ of Fano manifolds $X$. More precisely, the category of B-branes of such hybrid models corresponds to the HPD category of the embedding $f$. B-branes on these hybrid models can be seen as global matrix factorizations over some compact space $B$ or, equivalently, as the derived category of the sheaf of $\mathcal{A}$-modules on $B$, where $\mathcal{A}$ is an $A_{\infty}$ algebra. This latter interpretation corresponds to a noncommutative resolution of $B$. We compute…
We study Homological Mirror Symmetry (HMS) for $A_n$-resolutions from the SYZ viewpoint. Let $X\to\bC^2/\bZ_{n+1}$ be the crepant resolution of the $A_n$-singularity. The mirror of $X$ is given by a smoothing $\check{X}$ of $\bC^2/\bZ_{n+1}$. Using SYZ transformations, we construct a geometric functor from a derived Fukaya category of $\check{X}$ to the derived category of coherent sheaves on $X$. We show that this is an equivalence of triangulated categories onto a full triangulated subcategory of $D^b(X)$, thus realizing Kontsevich's HMS conjecture by SYZ.
We use Lagrangian torus fibrations on the mirror $X$ of a toric Calabi-Yau threefold $\check X$ to construct Lagrangian sections and various Lagrangian spheres on $X$. We then propose an explicit correspondence between the sections and line bundles on $\check X$ and between spheres and sheaves supported on the toric divisors of $\check X$. We conjecture that these correspondences induce an embedding of the relevant derived Fukaya category of $X$ inside the derived category of coherent sheaves on $\check X$.
We study quartic double fivefolds from the perspective of Fano manifolds of Calabi-Yau type and that of exceptional quaternionic representations. We first prove that the generic quartic double fivefold can be represented, in a finite number of ways, as a double cover of P^5 ramified along a linear section of the Sp 12-invariant quartic in P^31. Then, using the geometry of the Vinberg's type II decomposition of some exceptional quaternionic representations, and backed by some cohomological computations performed by Macaulay2, we prove the existence of a spherical rank 6 vector bundle on such a …
Let $X_N$ be the second infinitesimal neighborhood of a closed point in $N$-dimensional affine space. In this note we study $D^b(coh\, X_N)$, the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on $X_N$. We show that for $N\geq 2$ the lattice of triangulated subcategories in $D^b(coh\, X_N)$ has a rich structure (which is probably wild), in contrast to the case of zero-dimensional complete intersections. We also establish a relation between triangulated subcategories in $D^b(coh\, X_N)$ and universal localizations of a free graded associative algebra in $N$ variables. Our homological methods prod…
Let $X$ be a closed symplectic manifold equipped a Lagrangian torus fibration over a base $Q$. A construction first considered by Kontsevich and Soibelman produces from this data a rigid analytic space $Y$, which can be considered as a variant of the $T$-dual introduced by Strominger, Yau, and Zaslow. We prove that the Fukaya category of tautologically unobstructed graded Lagrangians in $X$ embeds fully faithfully in the derived category of (twisted) coherent sheaves on $Y$, under the technical assumption that $π_2(Q)$ vanishes (all known examples satisfy this assumption). The main new tool is…
In this paper we prove a version of curved Koszul duality for Z/2Z-graded curved coalgebras and their coBar differential graded algebras. A curved version of the homological perturbation lemma is also obtained as a useful technical tool for studying curved (co)algebras and precomplexes. The results of Koszul duality can be applied to study the category of matrix factorizations MF(R,W). We show how Dyckerhoff's generating results fit into the framework of curved Koszul duality theory. This enables us to clarify the relationship between the Borel-Moore Hochschild homology of curved (co)algebras …

The derived category of a hypersurface has an action by "cohomology operations" k[t], deg t=-2, underlying the 2-periodic structure on its category of singularities (as matrix factorizations). We prove a Thom-Sebastiani type Theorem, identifying the k[t]-linear tensor products of these dg categories with coherent complexes on the zero locus of the sum potential on the product (with a support condition), and identify the dg category of colimit-preserving k[t]-linear functors between Ind-completions with Ind-coherent complexes on the zero locus of the difference potential (with a support conditi…
For an appropriate choice of a $\mathbb{Z}$-grading structure, we prove that the wrapped Fukaya category of the symmetric square of a $(k+3)$-punctured sphere, i.e. the Weinstein manifold given as the complement of $(k+3)$ generic lines in $\mathbb{C}P^2$ is quasi-equivalent to the derived category of coherent sheaves on a singular surface $\mathcal{Z}_{2,k}$ constructed as the boundary of a toric Landau-Ginzburg model $(\mathcal{X}_{2,k}, \mathbf{w}_{2,k})$. We do this by first constructing a quasi-equivalence between certain categorical resolutions of both sides and then localising. We also …
In this paper, we prove a decomposition result for the Chow groups of projectivizations of coherent sheaves of homological dimension $\le 1$. In this process, we establish the decomposition of Chow groups for the cases of Cayley's trick and standard flips. Moreover, we apply these results to study the Chow groups of symmetric powers of curves, nested Hilbert schemes of surfaces, and the varieties resolving Voisin maps for cubic fourfolds.
We propose a way of understanding homological mirror symmetry when a complex manifold is a smooth compact toric manifold. So far, in many example, the derived category $D^b(coh(X))$ of coherent sheaves on a toric manifold $X$ is compared with the Fukaya-Seidel category of the Milnor fiber of the corresponding Landau-Ginzburg potential. We instead consider the dual torus fibration $π:M \to B$ of the complement of the toric divisors in $X$, where $\bar{B}$ is the dual polytope of the toric manifold $X$. A natural formulation of homological mirror symmetry in this set-up is to define $Fuk(\bar{M}…
In this note we extend the main results of [E. Enochs and S. Estrada, Relative homological algebra in the category of quasi-coherent sheaves. Adv. in Math. 194(2005), 284-295] to the category of cartesian modules over a flat presheaf of rings and on an arbitrary small category. This provides with new applications of that paper to the categories of quasi-coherent sheaves on an Artin stack or on a Deligne-Mumford stack.
We study matrix factorizations of locally free coherent sheaves on a scheme. For a scheme that is projective over an affine scheme, we show that homomorphisms in the homotopy category of matrix factorizations may be computed as the hypercohomology of a certain mapping complex. Using this explicit description, we give another proof of Orlov's theorem that there is a fully faithful embedding of the homotopy category of matrix factorizations into the singularity category of the corresponding zero subscheme. We also give a complete description of the image of this functor.
We study homological mirror symmetry for Del Pezzo surfaces and their mirror Landau-Ginzburg models. In particular, we show that the derived category of coherent sheaves on a Del Pezzo surface X_k obtained by blowing up CP^2 at k points is equivalent to the derived category of vanishing cycles of a certain elliptic fibration W_k:M_k\to\C with k+3 singular fibers, equipped with a suitable symplectic form. Moreover, we also show that this mirror correspondence between derived categories can be extended to noncommutative deformations of X_k, and give an explicit correspondence between the deforma…
Inspired by the homological mirror symmetry conjecture of Kontsevich, we construct new classes of automorphisms of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth Calabi-Yau variety.
This article is the continuation of [LS12]. We use categories of matrix factorizations to define a morphism of rings (= a Landau-Ginzburg motivic measure) from the (motivic) Grothendieck ring of varieties over $\mathbb{A}^1$ to the Grothendieck ring of saturated dg categories (with relations coming from semi-orthogonal decompositions into admissible subcategories). Our Landau-Ginzburg motivic measure is the analog for matrix factorizations of the motivic measure in [BLL04] whose definition involved bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves. On the way we prove smoothness and a Thom-Sebast…
We study categories of matrix factorizations. These categories are defined for any regular function on a suitable regular scheme. Our paper has two parts. In the first part we develop the foundations; for example we discuss derived direct and inverse image functors and dg enhancements. In the second part we prove that the category of matrix factorizations on the blowing-up of a suitable regular scheme X along a regular closed subscheme Y has a semi-orthogonal decomposition into admissible subcategories in terms of matrix factorizations on Y and X. This is the analog of a well-known theorem for…
By generalizing the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for hypersurfaces, we can relate a Calabi-Yau complete intersection to a hybrid Landau-Ginzburg model: a family of isolated singularities fibered over a projective line. In recent years Fan, Jarvis, and Ruan have defined quantum invariants for singularities of this type, and Clader and Clader-Ross have provided a equivalence between these invariants and Gromov-Witten invariants of complete intersections. For Calabi-Yau complete intersections of two cubics, we show that this equivalence is directly related - via Chen character - to t…
Given a Calabi-Yau manifold and considering the $B$-branes on it as objects in the derived category of coherent sheaves, we identify the vertex operators for strings between two branes with elements of the cohomology groups of Ext sheaves. We define the correlation functions for these general vertex operators. Strings stretching between two coherent sheaves are studied as homological extensions of the corresponding branes. In this context, we relate strings between different pairs of branes when there are maps between these branes. We also interpret some strings with ghost number $k$ as obstru…
