This article is the continuation of [LS12]. We use categories of matrix factorizations to define a morphism of rings (= a Landau-Ginzburg motivic measure) from the (motivic) Grothendieck ring of varieties over $\mathbb{A}^1$ to the Grothendieck ring of saturated dg categories (with relations coming from semi-orthogonal decompositions into admissible subcategories). Our Landau-Ginzburg motivic measure is the analog for matrix factorizations of the motivic measure in [BLL04] whose definition involved bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves. On the way we prove smoothness and a Thom-Sebastiani theorem for enhancements of categories of matrix factorizations.
We show that the motivic vanishing cycles introduced by J. Denef and F. Loeser give rise to a motivic measure on the Grothendieck ring of varieties over the affine line. We discuss the relation of this motivic measure to the motivic measure we constructed earlier using categories of matrix factorizations.
In this paper we establish a precise comparison between vanishing cycles and the singularity category of Landau-Ginzburg models over a complete discrete valuation ring. By using noncommutative motives, we first construct a motivic $\ell$-adic realization functor for dg-categories. Our main result, then asserts that, given a Landau-Ginzburg model over a complete discrete valuation ring with potential induced by a uniformizer, the $\ell$-adic realization of its singularity category is given by the inertia-invariant part of vanishing cohomology. We also prove a functorial and $\infty$-categorical…
We study the connection between quadratic Strebel differentials on punctured surfaces and the construction of moduli spaces of matrix factorizations for dimer models using GIT-quotients. We show that for each consistent dimer model and each nondegenerate stability condition $θ$ we can find a Strebel differential for which the horizontal trajectories correspond to the $θ$-stable matrix factorizations and the vertical trajectories correspond to the arrows of the dimer quiver. We give explicit expressions for the $θ$-stable matrix factorizations that can be deduced from these horizontal trajector…
We associate a complete intersection singularity to a graded matrix factorization of size two of a polynomial in three variables. We show that we get an inverse to the reduction of singularities considered by C.T.C.Wall. We study this for the full strongly exceptional collections in the triangulated category of graded matrix factorizations constructed by H.Kajiura, K.Saito, and the second author.
We present an improved construction of the fundamental matrix factorization in the FJRW-theory given in arXiv:1105.2903. The revised construction is coordinate-free and works for a possibly nonabelian finite group of symmetries. One of the new ingrediants is the category of dg-matrix factorizations over a dg-scheme.
We provide an equivalence between the dg category of coherent matrix factorizations and a certain dg category of absolute singularities. As an application, we compute the l-adic cohomology of the dg category of coherent matrix factorizations, as well as its Hochschild and periodic cyclic homologies (these last two only in the affine case).
We write out explicit proper Calabi-Yau structures, i. e. non-degenerate cyclic cocycles on the differential graded categories of matrix factorizations of regular functions with isolated critical points. The formulas involve the Kapustin-Li trace and its "higher corrections".
Nonnegative matrix factorizations are often encountered in data mining applications where they are used to explain datasets by a small number of parts. For many of these applications it is desirable that there exists a unique nonnegative matrix factorization up to trivial modifications given by scalings and permutations. This means that model parameters are uniquely identifiable from the data. Rigidity theory of bar and joint frameworks is a field that studies uniqueness of point configurations given some of the pairwise distances. The goal of this paper is to use ideas from rigidity theory to…
We define the Atiyah class for global matrix factorizations and use it to give a formula for the categorical Chern character and the boundary-bulk map for matrix factorizations, generalizing the formula in the local case obtained in arXiv:1002.2116. Our approach is based on developing the Lie algebra analogies observed by Kapranov alg-geom/9704009 and Markarian math/0610553.
Consider the symmetric group $S_n$ acting as a reflection group on the polynomial ring $k[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$, where $k$ is a field such that Char$(k)$ does not divide $n!$. We use Higher Specht polynomials to construct matrix factorizations of the discriminant of this group action: these matrix factorizations are indexed by partitions of $n$ and respect the decomposition of the coinvariant algebra into isotypical components. The maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules associated to these matrix factorizations give rise to a noncommutative resolution of the discriminant and they correspond to the nontri…
We prove a Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch type formula for global matrix factorizations. This is established by an explicit realization of the abstract Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch type formula of Shklarov. We also show a Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch type theorem.
We prove the non-commutative analogue of Grothendieck's Standard Conjecture D for the dg-category of matrix factorizations of an isolated hypersurface singularity in characteristic 0. Along the way, we show the Euler pairing for such dg-categories of matrix factorizations is positive semi-definite.
We establish a Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch type theorem and Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch type theorem for matrix factorizations on quotient Deligne-Mumford stacks. For this we first construct a Hochschild-Kostant-Rosenberg type isomorphism explicit enough to yield a categorical Chern character formula. We next find an expression of the canonical pairing of Shklyarov under the isomorphism.
Using a part of XJC-correspondence by Pirio and Russo, we classify cubic forms $f$ whose Hessian matrices induce matrix factorizations of themselves. When it defines a reduced hypersurface, it satisfies the "secant-singularity" correspondence, that is, it coincides with the secant locus of its singular locus. In particular, when $f$ is irreducible, its singular locus is either one of four Severi varieties.
Given an isolated, quasi-homogeneous singularity $X$ we prove that there is a group isomorphism between the group of rank one reflexive sheaves on $X$ and the free abelian group generated by $\mathbb{C}^*$-divisors, modulo linear equivalence. When $\dim(X)=2$ we reduce the problem of finding matrix factorizations of arbitrary reflexive $\mathcal{O}_X$-modules to the same question on rank one reflexive sheaves. We then enumerate the matrix factorizations of all rank one reflexive sheaves. As a consequence, we prove a conjecture of Etingof and Ginzburg on point modules.
We prove that the Buchweitz-Greuel-Schreyer Conjecture on the minimal rank of a matrix factorization holds for a generic polynomial of given degree and strength. The proof introduces a notion of the secondary strength of a polynomial, and uses a variant of the ultraproduct technique of Erman, Sam, and Snowden.
In this work we prove the so called dimension property for the cohomological field theory associated with a homogeneous polynomial W with an isolated singularity, in the algebraic framework of arXiv:1105.2903. This amounts to showing that some cohomology classes on the Deligne-Mumford moduli spaces of stable curves, constructed using Fourier-Mukai type functors associated with matrix factorizations, live in prescribed dimension. The proof is based on a homogeneity result established in arXiv:math/0011032 for certain characteristic classes of Koszul matrix factorizations of 0. To reduce to this…
In this paper, we compute an explicit matrix factorization of a rank 9 Ulrich sheaf on a general cubic hypersurface of dimension at most 7, whose existence was proved by Manivel. Instead of using invariant theory, we use Shamash's construction with a cone over the spinor variety. We also describe an algebro-geometric interpretation of our matrix factorization which connects the spinor tenfold and the Cartan cubic.
We introduce the notion of ungraded matrix factorization as a mirror of non-orientable Lagrangian submanifolds. An ungraded matrix factorization of a polynomial $W$, with coefficients in a field of characteristic 2, is a square matrix $Q$ of polynomial entries satisfying $Q^2 = W \cdot \mathrm{Id}$. We then show that non-orientable Lagrangians correspond to ungraded matrix factorizations under the localized mirror functor and illustrate this construction in a few instances. Our main example is the Lagrangian submanifold $\mathbb{R}P^2 \subset \mathbb{C}P^2$ and its mirror ungraded matrix facto…
For an in invertible quasihomogeneous singularity $w$ we prove an all-genus mirror theorem establishing an isomorphism between two cohomological field theories. On the $B$-side it is the Saito-Givental theory given by a certain choice of a primitive form. On the $A$-side, it is the reduced matrix factorization CohFT for the dual singularity $w^T$ with the maximal diagonal symmetry group.
