For an in invertible quasihomogeneous singularity $w$ we prove an all-genus mirror theorem establishing an isomorphism between two cohomological field theories. On the $B$-side it is the Saito-Givental theory given by a certain choice of a primitive form. On the $A$-side, it is the reduced matrix factorization CohFT for the dual singularity $w^T$ with the maximal diagonal symmetry group.
We prove the Landau-Ginzburg mirror symmetry conjecture between invertible quasi-homogeneous polynomial singularities at all genera. That is, we show that the FJRW theory (LG A-model) of such a polynomial is equivalent to the Saito-Givental theory (LG B-model) of the mirror polynomial.
We investigate the super Landau-Ginzburg mirrors of gauged linear sigma models which, in an appropriate low energy limit, reduce to nonlinear sigma models with Kaehler supermanifold target spaces of nonnegative super-first Chern class.
By generalizing the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for hypersurfaces, we can relate a Calabi-Yau complete intersection to a hybrid Landau-Ginzburg model: a family of isolated singularities fibered over a projective line. In recent years Fan, Jarvis, and Ruan have defined quantum invariants for singularities of this type, and Clader and Clader-Ross have provided a equivalence between these invariants and Gromov-Witten invariants of complete intersections. For Calabi-Yau complete intersections of two cubics, we show that this equivalence is directly related - via Chen character - to t…
We prove a version of the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the mirror quintic. In particular we calculate the genus-zero FJRW theory for the pair (W, G) where W is the Fermat quintic polynomial and G = SL(W). We identify it with the Gromov-Witten theory of the mirror quintic three-fold via an explicit analytic continuation and symplectic transformation. In the process we prove a mirror theorem for the corresponding Landau-Ginzburg model (W,G).
New geometrical features of the Landau-Ginzburg orbifolds are presented, for models with a typical type of superpotential. We show the one-to-one correspondence between some of the $(a,c)$ states with $U(1)$ charges $(-1,1)$ and the integral points on the dual polyhedra, which are useful tools for the construction of mirror manifolds. Relying on toric geometry, these states are shown to correspond to the $(1,1)$ forms coming from blowing-up processes. In terms of the above identification, it can be checked that the monomial-divisor mirror map for Landau-Ginzburg orbifolds, proposed by the auth…
We evaluate the ideas of Pi-stability at the Landau-Ginzburg point in moduli space of compact Calabi-Yau manifolds, using matrix factorizations to B-model the topological D-brane category. The standard requirement of unitarity at the IR fixed point is argued to lead to a notion of "R-stability" for matrix factorizations of quasi-homogeneous LG potentials. The D0-brane on the quintic at the Landau-Ginzburg point is not obviously unstable. Aiming to relate R-stability to a moduli space problem, we then study the action of the gauge group of similarity transformations on matrix factorizations. We…
We consider the conjectures from the paper by Katzarkov, Kontsevich, and Pantev about Landau-Ginzburg Hodge numbers associated to tamely compactifiable Landau-Ginzburg models. We test these conjectures in case of dimension two, verifying some and giving a counterexample to the other.
We prove that Hori--Vafa mirror models for smooth Fano complete intersections in weighted projective spaces admit an interpretation as Laurent polynomials.
We give a new proof of the computation of Hodge integrals we have previously obtained for the quantum singularity (FJRW) theory of chain polynomials. It uses the classical localization formula of Atiyah--Bott and we phrase our proof in a general framework that is suitable for future studies of gauged linear sigma models (GLSM). As a by-product, we obtain the first equivariant version of mirror symmetry without concavity, generalizing the work of Chiodo--Iritani--Ruan on the Landau--Ginzburg side.
We present some mathematical aspects of Landau-Ginzburg string vacua in terms of toric geometry. The one-to-one correspondence between toric divisors and some of (-1,1) states in Landau-Ginzburg model is presented for superpotentials of typical types. The Landau-Ginzburg interpretation of non-toric divisors is also presented. Using this interpretation, we propose a method to solve the so-called "twisted sector problem" by orbifold construction. Moreover, this construction shows that the moduli spaces of the original Landau-Ginzburg string vacua and their orbifolds are connected. By considering …
Given a Fano complete intersection defined by sections of a collection nef line bundles $L_1,\ldots, L_c$ on a Fano toric manifold $Y$, a construction of Givental/Hori-Vafa provides a mirror-dual Landau-Ginzburg model. This construction depends on a choice of suitable nef partition; that is, a partition of the rays of the fan determined by $Y$. We show that toric Landau-Ginzburg models constructed from different nef partitions representing the same complete intersection are related by a volume preserving birational map. In particular, various Laurent polynomial mirrors which may be obtained fr…
We show how the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the quintic three-fold can be cast into a global mirror symmetry framework. Then we draw inspiration from Berglund-Hübsch mirror duality construction to provide an analogue conjectural picture featuring all Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces within weighted projective spaces and certain quotients by finite abelian group actions.
We consider the Berglund-Hübsch-Henningson-Takahashi duality of Landau-Ginzburg orbifolds with a symmetry group generated by some diagonal symmetries and some permutations of variables. We study the orbifold Euler characteristics, the orbifold zeta functions and the orbifold E-functions of such dual pairs. We conjecture that we get a mirror symmetry between these invariants even on each level, where we call level the conjugacy class of a permutation. We support this conjecture by giving partial results for each of these invariants.
This paper is an introduction to D-branes in Landau-Ginzburg models and Homological Mirror Symmetry. The paper is based on a series of lectures which were given on Second Latin Congress on Symmetries in Geometry and Physics that took place at the University of Curitiba, Brazil in December 2010.
We consider Landau-Ginzburg models stemming from groups comprised of non-diagonal symmetries, and we describe a rule for the mirror LG model. In particular, we present the non-abelian dual group $G^\star$, which serves as the appropriate choice of group for the mirror LG model. We also describe an explicit mirror map between the A-model and the B-model state spaces for two examples. Further, we prove that this mirror map is an isomorphism between the untwisted broad sectors and the narrow diagonal sectors for Fermat type polynomials., we prove that this mirror map is an isomorphism between the…
We introduce a duality of Landau-Ginzburg models based on the notion of the discrete Legendre transform given by Gross-Siebert. It generalizes the duality used to construct mirrors of complete intersections in toric varieties in a recent joint work with Gross and Katzarkov. We discuss how it appears as a limit version of the semi-flat Strominger-Yau-Zaslow construction of mirror symmetry with potential given as the obstruction in Floer theory.
In this article, we study the Berglund--Hübsch transpose construction W^T for invertible quasihomogeneous potential W. We introduce the dual group G^T and establish the state space isomorphism between the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten A-model of W/G and the orbifold Milnor ring B-model of W^T/G^T. Furthermore, we prove a mirror symmetry theorem at the level of Frobenius algebra structure for G^max. Then, we interpret Arnol'd strange duality of exceptional singularities W as mirror symmetry between W/J and its strange dual W^SD.
For a given Fourier-Mukai equivalence of bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves on smooth quasi-projective varieties, we construct Fourier-Mukai equivalences of derived factorization categories of gauged Landau-Ginzburg (LG) models. As an application, we obtain some equivalences of derived factorization categories of K-equivalent gauged LG models. This result is an equivariant version of the result of Baranovsky and Pecharich, and it also gives a partial answer to Segal's conjecture. As another application, we prove that if the kernel of the Fourier-Mukai equivalence is linearizable wi…
We describe the Fukaya-Seidel category of a Landau-Ginzburg model LG(2) for the semisimple adjoint orbit of sl(2,C). We prove that this category is equivalent to a full triangulated subcategory of the category of coherent sheaves on the second Hirzebruch surface. We show that no projective variety can be mirror to LG(2), and that this remains so after compactification.
Recently two groups have listed all sets of weights (k_1,...,k_5) such that the weighted projective space P_4^{(k_1,...,k_5)} admits a transverse Calabi-Yau hypersurface. It was noticed that the corresponding Calabi-Yau manifolds do not form a mirror symmetric set since some 850 of the 7555 manifolds have Hodge numbers (b_{11},b_{21}) whose mirrors do not occur in the list. By means of Batyrev's construction we have checked that each of the 7555 manifolds does indeed have a mirror. The `missing mirrors' are constructed as hypersurfaces in toric varieties. We show that many of these manifolds m…
We show that the mirror constructions of Greene-Plesser, Berglund-Hubsch, Batryev-Borsov, Givental and Hori-Vafa can be expressed in terms of what we call dual fans. To do this, we associate to a pair of dual fans a pair of toric Landau-Ginzburg models, and we describe a process by which each of the mirror constructions listed also produces a pair of toric Landau-Ginzburg models. Replacing mirror pairs by toric Landau-Ginzburg models is reversible, and our main result is the dual fan models and the mirror pairs models coincide.
The Landau-Ginzburg A-model, given by FJRW theory, defines a cohomological field theory, but in most examples is very difficult to compute, especially when the symmetry group is not maximal. We give some methods for finding the A-model structure. In many cases our methods completely determine the previously unknown A-model Frobenius manifold structure. In the case where these Frobenius manifolds are semisimple, this can be shown to determine the structure of the higher genus potential as well. We compute the Frobenius manifold structure for 27 of the previously unknown unimodal and bimodal sin…
We provide a mirror symmetry theorem in a range of cases where the state-of-the-art techniques relying on concavity or convexity do not apply. More specifically, we work on a family of FJRW potentials named after Fan, Jarvis, Ruan, and Witten's quantum singularity theory and viewed as the counterpart of a non-convex Gromov--Witten potential via the physical LG/CY correspondence. The main result provides an explicit formula for Polishchuk and Vaintrob's virtual cycle in genus zero. In the non-concave case of the so-called chain invertible polynomials, it yields a compatibility theorem with the …
FJRW theory is a formulation of physical Landau-Ginzburg models with a rich algebraic structure, rooted in enumerative geometry. As a consequence of a major physical conjecture, called the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence, several birational morphisms of Calabi-Yau orbifolds should correspond to isomorphisms in FJRW theory. In this paper it is shown that not only does this claim prove to be the case, but is a special case of a wider FJRW isomorphism theorem, which in turn allows for a proof of mirror symmetry for a new class of cases in the Landau-Ginzburg setting. We also obtain seve…
We argue how boundary B-type Landau-Ginzburg models based on matrix factorizations can be used to compute exact superpotentials for intersecting D-brane configurations on compact Calabi-Yau spaces. In this paper, we consider the dependence of open-string, boundary changing correlators on bulk moduli. This determines, via mirror symmetry, non-trivial disk instanton corrections in the A-model. As crucial ingredient we propose a differential equation that involves matrix analogs of Saito's higher residue pairings. As example, we compute from this for the elliptic curve certain quantum products m_…
We prove the Landau-Ginzburg Mirror Symmetry Conjecture at the level of (orbifolded) Frobenius algebras for a large class of invertible singularities, including arbitrary sums of loops and Fermats with arbitrary symmetry groups. Specifically, we show that for a quasi-homogeneous polynomial W and an admissible group G within the class, the Frobenius algebra arising in the FJRW theory of [W/G] is isomorphic (as a Frobenius algebra) to the orbifolded Milnor ring of [W^T/G^T], associated to the dual polynomial W^T and dual group G^T.
We prove an explicit formula for the genus-one Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariants associated to the quintic threefold, verifying the genus-one mirror conjecture of Huang, Klemm, and Quackenbush. The proof involves two steps. The first step uses localization on auxiliary moduli spaces to compare the usual Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariants with a semisimple theory of twisted invariants. The second step uses the genus-one formula for semisimple cohomological field theories to compute the twisted invariants explicitly.
In this paper, we prove the mirror symmetry conjecture between the Saito-Givental theory of exceptional unimodular singularities on Landau-Ginzburg B-side and the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory of their mirror partners on Landau-Ginzburg A-side. On the B-side, we compute the genus-zero generating function from a perturbative formula of primitive forms introduced by the first three authors recently. This computation matches the orbifold-Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch and WDVV calculations in FJRW theory on the A-side. The coincidence of the full data at all genera is established by reconstruction tec…
For any non-degenerate, quasi-homogeneous hypersurface singularity W and an admissible group of diagonal symmetries G, Fan, Jarvis, and Ruan have constructed a cohomological field theory which is a candidate for the mathematical structure behind the Landau-Ginzburg A-model. When using the orbifold Milnor ring of a singularity W as a B-model, and the Frobenius algebra H_{W,G} constructed by Fan, Jarvis, and Ruan, as an A-model, the following conjecture is obtained: For a quasi-homogeneous singularity W and a group G of symmetries of W, there is a dual singularity W^T such that the orbifold A-mo…
We study the Hodge numbers of Landau-Ginzburg models as defined by Katzarkov, Kontsevich and Pantev. First we show that these numbers can be computed using ordinary mixed Hodge theory, then we give a concrete recipe for computing these numbers for the Landau-Ginzburg mirrors of Fano threefolds. We finish by proving that for a crepant resolution of a Gorenstein toric Fano threefold $X$ there is a natural LG mirror $(Y,\mathsf{w})$ so that $h^{p,q}(X) = f^{3-q,p}(Y,\mathsf{w})$.
Using a recent construction of Bezrukavnikov and Etingof we prove that there is a factorization of the Etingof-Ginzburg sheaf on the generalized Calogero-Moser space associated to a complex reflection group. In the case W = S_n, this confirms a conjecture of Etingof and Ginzburg.
We survey the approach to mirror symmetry via Laurent polynomials, outlining some of the main conjectures, problems, and questions related to the subject. We discuss: how to construct Landau--Ginzburg models for Fano varieties; how to apply them to classification problems; and how to compute invariants of Fano varieties via Landau--Ginzburg models.
In this paper, we describe explicit relations in the symplectomorphism groups of toric hypersurfaces. To define the elements involved, we construct a proper stack of toric hypersurfaces with compactifying boundary representing toric hypersurface degenerations. Our relations arise through the study of the one dimensional strata of this stack. The results are then examined from the perspective of homological mirror symmetry where we view sequences of relations as maximal degenerations of Landau-Ginzburg models. We then study the B-model mirror to these degenerations, which gives a new mirror sym…
Kontsevich suggested that the Landau-Ginzburg model presents a good formalism for homological mirror symmetry. In this paper we propose to investigate the LG theory from the viewpoint of Koopman-von Neumann's construction. New advances are thus provided, namely regarding a conjecture of Kontsevich-Soibelman (on a version of the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow mirror problem). We show that there exists a Monge-Ampère domain Y, generated by a space of probability densities parametrising mirror dual Calabi-Yau manifolds. This provides torus fibrations over Y. The mirror pairs are obtained via the Berglund-…
We formulate a constructive theory of noncommutative Landau-Ginzburg models mirror to symplectic manifolds based on Lagrangian Floer theory. The construction comes with a natural functor from the Fukaya category to the category of matrix factorizations of the constructed Landau-Ginzburg model. As applications, it is applied to elliptic orbifolds, punctured Riemann surfaces and certain non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds to construct their mirrors and functors. In particular it recovers and strengthens several interesting results of Etingof-Ginzburg, Bocklandt and Smith, and gives a unified under…
In this paper we prove the smoothness of the moduli space of Landau-Ginzburg models. We formulate and prove a Tian-Todorov theorem for the deformations of Landau-Ginzburg models, develop the necessary Hodge theory for varieties with potentials, and prove a double degeneration statement needed for the unobstructedness result. We discuss the various definitions of Hodge numbers for non-commutative Hodge structures of Landau-Ginzburg type and the role they play in mirror symmetry. We also interpret the resulting families of de Rham complexes attacted to a potential in terms of mirror symmetry for…
We show that the Gromov-Witten theory of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces matches, in genus zero and after an analytic continuation, the quantum singularity theory (FJRW theory) recently introduced by Fan, Jarvis and Ruan following ideas of Witten. Moreover, on both sides, we highlight two remarkable integral local systems arising from the common formalism of Gamma-integral structures applied to the derived category of the hypersurface {W=0} and to the category of graded matrix factorizations of W. In this setup, we prove that the analytic continuation matches Orlov equivalence between the two above c…
We review various constructions of mirror symmetry in terms of Landau-Ginzburg orbifolds for arbitrary central charge $c$ and \CY\ hypersurfaces and complete intersections in toric varieties. In particular it is shown how the different techniques are related
We introduce a new technique for approaching birationality questions that arise in the mirror symmetry of complete intersections in toric varieties. As an application we answer affirmatively and conclusively the question of Batyrev-Nill (2008) about the birationality of Calabi-Yau families associated to multiple mirror nef-partitions. This completes the progress in this direction made by Li's breakthrough (2016). In the process, we obtain results in the theory of Borisov's nef-partitions (1993) and provide new insight on the geometric content of the multiple mirror phenomenon.
Given an algebraic hypersurface $H=f^{-1}(0)$ in $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n$, homological mirror symmetry relates the wrapped Fukaya category of $H$ to the derived category of singularities of the mirror Landau-Ginzburg model. We propose an enriched version of this picture which also features the wrapped Fukaya category of the complement $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n\setminus H$ and the Fukaya-Seidel category of the Landau-Ginzburg model $((\mathbb{C}^*)^n,f)$. We illustrate our speculations on simple examples, and sketch a proof of homological mirror symmetry for higher-dimensional pairs of pants.
We prove that the wrapped Fukaya category of a punctured sphere ($S^2$ with an arbitrary number of points removed) is equivalent to the triangulated category of singularities of a mirror Landau-Ginzburg model, proving one side of the homological mirror symmetry conjecture in this case. By investigating fractional gradings on these categories, we conclude that cyclic covers on the symplectic side are mirror to orbifold quotients of the Landau-Ginzburg model.
This paper proves a version of mirror symmetry expressing the (small) Dubrovin connection for even-dimensional quadrics in terms of a mirror-dual Landau-Ginzburg model (Xcan,W). Here Xcan is the complement of an anticanonical divisor in a Langlands dual quadric. The superpotential W is a regular function on Xcan and is written in terms of coordinates which are naturally identified with a cohomology basis of the original quadric. This superpotential is shown to extend the earlier Landau-Ginzburg model of Givental, and to be isomorphic to the Lie-theoretic mirror introduced by Rietsch. We also i…
We prove a Kn"orrer periodicity type equivalence between derived factorization categories of gauged LG models, which is an analogy of a theorem proved by Shipman and Isik independently. As an application, we obtain a gauged LG version of Orlov's theorem describing a relationship between categories of graded matrix factorizations and derived categories of hypersurfaces in projective spaces, by combining the above Kn"orrer periodicity type equivalence and the theory of variations of GIT quotients due to Ballard, Favero and Katzarkov.
We prove the genus-one restriction of the all-genus Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau conjecture of Chiodo and Ruan, stated in terms of the geometric quantization of an explicit symplectomorphism determined by genus-zero invariants. This provides the first evidence supporting the higher-genus Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the quintic threefold, and exhibits the first instance of the "genus zero controls higher genus" principle, in the sense of Givental's quantization formalism, for non-semisimple cohomological field theories.
We introduce the notion of ungraded matrix factorization as a mirror of non-orientable Lagrangian submanifolds. An ungraded matrix factorization of a polynomial $W$, with coefficients in a field of characteristic 2, is a square matrix $Q$ of polynomial entries satisfying $Q^2 = W \cdot \mathrm{Id}$. We then show that non-orientable Lagrangians correspond to ungraded matrix factorizations under the localized mirror functor and illustrate this construction in a few instances. Our main example is the Lagrangian submanifold $\mathbb{R}P^2 \subset \mathbb{C}P^2$ and its mirror ungraded matrix facto…
We discuss how matrix factorizations offer a practical method of computing the quiver and associated superpotential for a hypersurface singularity. This method also yields explicit geometrical interpretations of D-branes (i.e., quiver representations) on a resolution given in terms of Grassmannians. As an example we analyze some non-toric singularities which are resolved by a single CP1 but have "length" greater than one. These examples have a much richer structure than conifolds. A picture is proposed that relates matrix factorizations in Landau-Ginzburg theories to the way that matrix factor…
The aim of this paper is to apply ideas from the study of Legendrian singularities to a specific example of interest within mirror symmetry. We calculate the Landau-Ginzburg $A$-model with $M= \mathbb C^3, W=z_1 z_2 z_3$ in its guise as microlocal sheaves along the natural singular Lagrangian thimble $L = {\mathit Cone}(T^2)\subset M$. The description we obtain is immediately equivalent to the $B$-model of the pair-of-pants $\mathbb P^1 \setminus \{0, 1, \infty\}$ as predicted by mirror symmetry.
Using the mirror theorem [CCIT15], we give a Landau-Ginzburg mirror description for the big equivariant quantum cohomology of toric Deligne-Mumford stacks. More precisely, we prove that the big equivariant quantum D-module of a toric Deligne-Mumford stack is isomorphic to the Saito structure associated to the mirror Landau-Ginzburg potential. We give a GKZ-style presentation of the quantum D-module, and a combinatorial description of quantum cohomology as a quantum Stanley-Reisner ring. We establish the convergence of the mirror isomorphism and of quantum cohomology in the big and equivariant …
We show homological mirror symmetry results relating coherent analytic sheaves on some complex elliptic surfaces and objects of certain Fukaya categories. We first define the notion of a non-algebraic Landau-Ginzburg model on $\mathbb{R} \times S^1$ and its associated Fukaya category, and show that non-Kähler sur-faces obtained by performing two logarithmic transformations to the product of the projective plane and an elliptic curve have non-algebraic Landau-Ginzburg models as their mirror spaces; this class of surface includes the classical Hopf surface $S^1\times S^3$ and other elliptic prim…
In this paper we calculate the elliptic genus of certain complete intersections in products of projective spaces. We show that it is equal to the elliptic genus of the Landau-Ginzburg models that are, according to Hori and Vafa, mirror partners of these complete intersections. This provides additional evidence of the validity of their construction.
