In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for the generalized KdV equation with rough data and random data. Firstly, we prove that $u(x,t)\longrightarrow u(x,0)$ as $t\longrightarrow0$ for a.e. $x\in \mathbb{R}$ with $u(x,0)\in H^{s}(\mathbb{R})(s>\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2}{k},k\geq8).$ Secondly, we prove that $u(x,t)\longrightarrow e^{-t\partial_{x}^{3}}u(x,0)$ as $t\longrightarrow0$ for a.e. $x\in \mathbb{R}$ with $u(x,0)\in H^{s}(\mathbb{R})(s>\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2}{k},k\geq8).$ Thirdly, we prove that $\lim\limits_{t\longrightarrow 0}\left\|u(x,t)-e^{-t\partial_{x}^{3}}u(x,0)\right\|_{L_{x}^{\infty}}=0$ with $u(x,0)\in H^{s}(\mathbb{R})(s>\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2}{k+1},k\geq5)$. Fourthly, by using Strichartz estimates, probabilistic Strichartz estimates, we establish the probabilistic well-posedness in $H^{s}(\mathbb{R})\left(s>{\rm max} \left\{\frac{1}{k+1}\left(\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2}{k}\right), \frac{1}{6}-\frac{2}{k}\right\}\right)$ with random data. Our result improves the result of Hwang, Kwak (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 146(2018), 267-280.). Fifthly, we prove that $\forall ε>0,$ $\forall ω\in Ω_{T},$ $\lim\limits_{t\longrightarrow0}\left\|u(x,t)-e^{-t\partial_{x}^{3}}u^ω(x,0)\right\|_{L_{x}^{\infty}}=0$ with $u(x,0)\in H^{s}(\mathbb{R})(s>\frac{1}{6},k\geq6),$ where ${\rm P}(Ω_{T})\geq 1- C_{1}{\rm exp} \left(-\frac{C}{T^{\fracε{48k}}\|u(x,0)\|_{H^{s}}^{2}}\right)$ and $u^ω(x,0)$ is the randomization of $u(x,0)$. Finally, we prove that $\forall ε>0,$ $\forall ω\in Ω_{T}, \lim\limits_{t\longrightarrow0}\left\|u(x,t)-u^ω(x,0)\right\|_{L_{x}^{\infty}}=0$ with ${\rm P}(Ω_{T})\geq 1- C_{1}{\rm exp} \left(-\frac{C}{T^{\fracε{48k}}\|u(x,0)\|_{H^{s}}^{2}}\right)$ and $u(x,0)\in H^{s}(\mathbb{R})(s>\frac{1}{6},k\geq6)$.
We prove local in time well-posedness for a class of quasilinear Hamiltonian KdV-type equations with periodic boundary conditions, more precisely we show existence, uniqueness and continuity of the solution map. We improve the previous result in \cite{Mietka}, generalising the considered class of equations and improving the regularity assumption on the initial data.
In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the higher-order KdV-type equation \begin{eqnarray*} u_{t}+(-1)^{j+1}\partial_{x}^{2j+1}u + \frac{1}{2}\partial_{x}(u^{2}) = 0,j\in N^{+},x\in\mathbf{T}= [0,2πλ) \end{eqnarray*} with low regularity data and $λ\geq 1$. Firstly, we show that the Cauchy problem for the periodic higher-order KdV equation is locally well-posed in $H^{s}(\mathbf{T})$ with $s\geq -j+\frac{1}{2},j\geq2.$ By using some new Strichartz estimate and some new function spaces, we also show that the Cauchy problem for the periodic higher-order KdV equation is ill-posed in …
In this work we study the initial value problem (IVP) for the fifth order KdV equations, \begin{align*} \partial_{t}u+\partial_{x}^{5}u+u^k\partial_{x}u=0,\text{} & \quad x,t\in \mathbb R, \quad k=1,2, \end{align*} in weighted Sobolev spaces $H^s(\mathbb R)\cap L^2(\langle x \rangle^{2r}dx)$. We prove local and global results. In the case $k=2$ we point out the relation between decay and regularity of the solution of the IVP.
In this paper, we consider the fifth-order modified Korteweg-de Vries (modified KdV) equation under the periodic boundary condition. We prove the local well-posedness in $H^s(\mathbb T)$, $s > 2$, via the energy method. The main tool is the short-time Fourier restriction norm method, which was first introduced in its current form by Ionescu, Kenig and Tataru [Global well-posedness of the KP-I initial-value problem in the energy space, Invent. Math. 173 (2) (2008) 265--304]. Besides, we use the frequency localized modified energy to control the high-low interaction component in the energy estim…
We consider the Cauchy problem for a generalized KdV equation \begin{eqnarray*} u_{t}+\partial_{x}^{3}u+u^{7}u_{x}=0, \end{eqnarray*} with random data on \R. Kenig, Ponce, Vega(Comm. Pure Appl. Math.46(1993), 527-620)proved that the problem is globally well-posed in H^{s}(\R)$ with s> s_{crit}=\frac{3}{14}, which is the scaling critical regularity indices. Birnir, Kenig, Ponce, Svanstedt, Vega(J. London Math. Soc. 53 (1996), 551-559.) proved that the problem is ill-posed in the sense that the time of existence T and the continuous dependence cannot be expressed in terms of the size of the data…
We prove that the initial value problem (IVP) for the critical generalized KdV equation $u_{t}+u_{xxx}+(u^5)_{x}=0$ on the real line is globally well-posed in $H^{s}(\R)$ provided $s>3/5$.
We consider the Cauchy problem of the higher-order KdV-type equation: \[ \partial_t u + \frac{1}{\mathfrak{m}} |\partial_x|^{\mathfrak{m}-1} \partial_x u = \partial_x (u^{\mathfrak{m}}) \] where $\mathfrak{m} \ge 4$. The nonlinearity is critical in the sense of long-time behavior. Using the method of testing by wave packets, we prove that there exists a unique global solution of the Cauchy problem satisfying the same time decay estimate as that of linear solutions. Moreover, we divide the long-time behavior of the solution into three distinct regions.
We prove well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for a class of third order quasilinear evolution equations with variable coefficients in projective Gevrey spaces. The class considered is connected with several equations in Mathematical Physics as the KdV and KdVB equation and some of their many generalizations.
In this note we report local well-posedness results for the Cauchy problems associated to generalized KdV type equations with dissipative perturbation for given data in the low regularity $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces. The method of proof is based on the {\em contraction mapping principle} employed in some appropriate time weighted spaces.
We study the Cauchy problem for the generalized KdV and one-dimensional fourth-order derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations, for which the global well-posedness of solutions with the small rough data in certain scaling limit of modulation spaces is shown, which contain some data with infinite $L^{2}$ norm.
We consider the Cauchy problem of the fifth-order equation arising from the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) hierarchy u_t + u_{xxxxx} + c_1u_{x} u_{xx} + c_2u u_{x} = 0 x,t \in \R We prove a priori bound of solutions for H^s(\R) with s >= 5/4 and the local well-posedness for s >= 2. The method is a short time X^{s,b} space, which is first developed by Ionescu-Kenig-Tataru in the context of the KP-I equation. In addition, we use a weight on localized X^{s,b} structures to reduce the contribution of high-low frequency interaction where the low frequency has large modulation. As an immediate result from …
Studied in this paper is the well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for the coupled KdV-KdV systems \[ u_t+a_1u_{xxx} = c_{11}uu_x+c_{12}vv_x+d_{11}u_{x}v+d_{12}uv_{x}, \quad u(x,0)= u_0(x) \] \[ v_t+a_2v_{xxx}= c_{21}uu_x+c_{22}vv_x +d_{21}u_{x}v+d_{22}uv_{x}, \quad v(x,0)=v_0(x)\] posed on the torus $\mathbb{T}$ in the spaces \[ {\cal H}^s_1:=H^s_0 (\mathbb{T})\times H^s_0 (\mathbb{T}), \quad {\cal H}^s_2:=H^s_0 (\mathbb{T})\times H^s(\mathbb{T}), \quad {\cal H}^s_3:=H^s (\mathbb{T})\times H^s_0 (\mathbb{T}), \quad {\cal H}^s_4:=H^s (\mathbb{T})\times H^s (\mathbb{T}).\] For $k=1,2,3,4$, it is…
We study a class of higher-order KdV equations. We show that the associated initial value problem is well posed in weighted Besov and Sobolev spaces for small initial data. We also prove ill-posedness results when in H^s(\R), for any real s.
The Cauchy problem for a coupled system of the Schroedinger and the KdV equation is shown to be globally well-posed for data with infinite energy. The proof uses refined bilinear Strichartz estimates and the I-method introduced by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka, and Tao.
We consider the Cauchy problem associated to the recently derived higher order hamiltonian model for unidirectional water waves and prove global existence for given data in the Sobolev space $H^s$, $s\geq 1$. We also prove an ill-posedness result by showing that the flow-map is not continuous if the given data has Sobolev regularity $s< 1$. The results obtained in this work are sharp.
The Cauchy problem for the modified KdV equation is shown to be locally well posed for data u_0 in the space \hat(H^r_s) defined by the norm ||u_0||:=||<ξ>^s \hat(u_0)||_L^r', provided 4/3 < r \le 2, s \ge 1/2 - 1/(2r). For r=2 this coincides with the best possible result on the H^s - scale due to Kenig, Ponce and Vega. The proof uses an appropriate variant of the Fourier restriction norm method and linear as well as bilinear estimates for the solutions of the Airy equation.
This paper is a continuation of the paper \emph{Low regularity Cauchy problem for the fifth-order modified KdV equations on $\mathbb{T}$}. In this paper, we consider the fifth-order equation in the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) hierarchy as following: \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} \partial_t u - \partial_x^5 u + 30u^2\partial_x u + 20 u\partial_x u \partial_x^3u + 10u \partial_x^3 u = 0, \hspace{1em} (t,x) \in \mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{T}, u(0,x) = u_0(x) \in H^s(\mathbb{T}) \end{cases}. \end{equation*} We prove the local well-posedness of the fifth-order KdV equation for low regularity Sobolev in…
In this article we consider the Cauchy problem with large initial data for an equation of the form (\partial_t+\partial_x^3)u=F(u,u_x,u_{xx}) where F is a polynomial with no constant or linear terms. Local well-posedness was established in weighted Sobolev spaces by Kenig-Ponce-Vega. In this paper we prove local well-posedness in a translation invariant subspace of H^s by adapting the result of Marzuola-Metcalfe-Tataru on quasilinear Schrodinger equations.
The initial-boundary value problem (ibvp) for the $m$-th order dispersion Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation on the half-line with rough data and solution in restricted Bourgain spaces is studied using the Fokas Unified Transform Method (UTM). Thus, this work advances the implementation of the Fokas method, used earlier for the KdV on the half-line with smooth data and solution in the classical Hadamard space, consisting of function that are continuous in time and Sobolev in the spatial variable, to the more general Bourgain spaces framework of dispersive equations with rough data on the half-li…
We study the Cauchy problem for the modified KdV equation for data u_0 in the space ^H^r_s defined by the norm ||u_0||_{^H^r_s}:=||<ξ>^s u^_0||_{L^r'_ξ}. Local well-posedness of this problem is established in the parameter range 2>=r>1, s>=1/2-1/2r, so the case (s,r)=(0,1), which is critical in view of scaling considerations is almost reached. To show this result, we use an appropriate variant of the Fourier restriction norm method as well as bi- and trilinear estimates for solutions of the Airy equation.
This work is concerned about the Cauchy problem for the following generalized KdV- Burgers equation \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{l} \partial_tu+\partial_x^3u+L_pu+u\partial_xu=0, u(0,\,x)=u_0(x). \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $L_p$ is a dissipative multiplicator operator. Using Besov-Bourgain Spaces, we establish a bilinear estimate and following the framework developed in Molinet, L. & Vento, S. (2011) we prove sharp global well-posedness in the Sobolev spaces $H^{-p/2}(I\!\!R)$ and sharp ill-posedness in $H^s(I\!\!R)$ when $s<-p/2$ with $p \geq 2$.
The initial value problem for the Korteweg-deVries equation on the line is shown to be globally well-posed for rough data. In particular, we show global well-posedness for initial data in H^s({\mathbb{R}), -3/10<s.
We prove that the Cauchy problem of the Schrödinger - Korteweg - deVries (NLS-KdV) system on $\mathbb{T}$ is globally well-posed for initial data $(u_0,v_0)$ below the energy space $H^1\times H^1$. More precisely, we show that the non-resonant NLS-KdV is globally well-posed for initial data $(u_0,v_0)\in H^s(\mathbb{T})\times H^s(\mathbb{T})$ with $s>11/13$ and the resonant NLS-KdV is globally well-posed for initial data $(u_0,v_0)\in H^s(\mathbb{T})\times H^s(\mathbb{T})$ with $s>8/9$. The idea of the proof of this theorem is to apply the I-method of Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka and …
We consider in this paper the well-posedness for the Cauchy problem associated to two-dimensional dispersive systems of Boussinesq type which model weakly nonlinear long wave surface waves. We emphasize the case of the {\it strongly dispersive} ones with focus on the "KdV-KdV" system which possesses the strongest dispersive properties and which is a vector two-dimensional extension of the classical KdV equation.
We consider the Cauchy problem for an equation of the form \partial_t+\partial_x^3)u=F(u,u_x,u_{xx}) where F is a polynomial with no constant or linear terms and no quadratic uu_{xx} term. For a polynomial nonlinearity with no quadratic terms, Kenig-Ponce-Vega proved local well-posedness in H^s for large s. In this paper we prove local well-posedness in low regularity Sobolev spaces and extend the result to certain quadratic nonlinearities. The result is based on spaces and estimates similar to those used by Marzuola-Metcalfe-Tataru for quasilinear Schrodinger equations.
We consider Cauchy problems of some dispersive PDEs with random initial data. In particular, we construct local-in-time solutions to the mean-zero periodic KdV almost surely for the initial data in the support of the mean-zero Gaussian measures on H^s(T), s > s_0 where s_0 = -11/6 + \sqrt{61}/6 \thickapprox -0.5316 < -1/2, by exhibiting nonlinear smoothing under randomization on the second iteration of the integration formulation. We also show that there is no nonlinear smoothing for the dispersionless cubic Szegö equation under randomization of initial data.
In this paper, we establish the well-posedness for the Cauchy problem of the fifth order KdV equation with low regularity data. The nonlinear term has more derivatives than can be recovered by the smoothing effect, which implies that the iteration argument is not available when initial data is given in $H^s$ for any $s \in \mathbb{R}$. So we give initial data in $H^{s,a}=H^s \cap \dot{H}^a$ when $a \leq s$ and $a \leq 0$. Then we can use the Fourier restriction norm method to obtain the local well-posedness in $H^{s,a}$ when $s \geq \max\{-1/4, -2a-2 \}$, $-3/2<a \leq -1/4$ and $(s,a) \neq (-1…
In this paper we consider some dissipative versions of the modified Korteweg de Vries equation $u_t+u_{xxx}+|D_x|^αu+u^2u_x=0$ with $0<α\leq 3$. We prove some well-posedness results on the associated Cauchy problem in the Sobolev spaces $H^s({\Bbb R})$ for $s>1/4-α/4$ on the basis of the $[k; Z]-$multiplier norm estimate obtained by Tao in \cite{Tao} for KdV equation.
The Cauchy problem for the higher order equations in the mKdV hierarchy is investigated with data in the spaces $\hat{H}^r_s(\R)$ defined by the norm $$\n{v_0}{\hat{H}^r_s(\R)} := \n{< ξ> ^s\hat{v_0}}{L^{r'}_ξ},\quad < ξ>=(1+ξ^2)^{\frac12}, \quad \frac{1}{r}+\frac{1}{r'}=1.$$ Local well-posedness for the $j$th equation is shown in the parameter range $2 \ge r >1$, $s \ge \frac{2j-1}{2r'}$. The proof uses an appropriate variant of the Fourier restriction norm method. A counterexample is discussed to show that the Cauchy problem for equations of this type is in general ill-posed in the $C^0$-uni…
We consider the initial value problem (IVP) associated to a Boussinesq type system. After rewriting the system in an equivalent form of coupled KdV-type equations, we prove that this is locally well-posed in $(H^s(\R^2))^4$, $s>3/2$, using sharp smoothing estimates. Consequently we obtain the local well-posedness result for the original system in $H^s\times \mathcal{V}^{s+1}$ for $s>3/2$ (see below for the definition of $\mathcal{V}^{s}$).

We complete the known results on the local Cauchy problem in Sobolev spaces for the KdV-Burgers equation by proving that this equation is well-posed in $ H^{-1}(\R) $ with a solution-map that is analytic from $H^{-1}(\R) $ to $C([0,T];H^{-1}(\R))$ whereas it is ill-posed in $ H^s(\R) $, as soon as $ s<-1 $, in the sense that the flow-map $u_0\mapsto u(t) $ cannot be continuous from $ H^s(\R) $ to even ${\cal D}'(\R) $ at any fixed $ t>0 $ small enough. As far as we know, this is the first result of this type for a dispersive-dissipative equation. The framework we develop here should be very us…
Inspired by the recent successful completion of the study of the well-posedness theory for the Cauchy problem of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation \[ u_t +uu_x +u_{xxx}=0, \quad \left. u \right |_{t=0}=u_{0} \] in the space $H^{s} (\mathbb{R})$ (or $H^{s} (\mathbb{T})$), we study the well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for a class of coupled KdV-KdV (cKdV) systems \[\left\{\begin{array}{rcl} u_t+a_{1}u_{xxx} &=& c_{11}uu_x+c_{12}vv_x+d_{11}u_{x}v+d_{12}uv_{x},\\ v_t+a_{2}v_{xxx}&=& c_{21}uu_x+c_{22}vv_x +d_{21}u_{x}v+d_{22}uv_{x},\\ \left. (u,v)\right |_{t=0} &=& (u_{0},v_{0}) \end{array}\…
We prove two new mixed sharp bilinear estimates of Schrödinger-Airy type. In particular, we obtain the local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem of the Schrödinger - Kortweg-deVries (NLS-KdV) system in the \emph{periodic setting}. Our lowest regularity is $H^{1/4}\times L^2$, which is somewhat far from the naturally expected endpoint $L^2\times H^{-1/2}$. This is a novel phenomena related to the periodicity condition. Indeed, in the continuous case, Corcho and Linares proved local well-posedness for the natural endpoint $L^2\times H^{-{3/4}+}$. Nevertheless, we conclude the global well-posedn…
We consider the Cauchy problem for the KdV hierarchy -- a family of integrable PDEs with a Lax pair representation involving one-dimensional Schrödinger operators -- under a local in time boundedness assumption on the solution. For reflectionless initial data, we prove that the solution stays reflectionless. For almost periodic initial data with absolutely continuous spectrum, we prove that under Craig-type conditions on the spectrum, Dirichlet data evolve according to a Lipschitz Dubrovin-type flow, so the solution is uniquely recovered by a trace formula. This applies to algebro-geometric (f…

We consider the Cauchy problem of the modified KdV equation (mKdV). Local well-posedness of this problem is obtained in modulation spaces $M^{1/4}_{2,q}(\mathbb{R})$ $(2\leq q\leq\infty)$. Moreover, we show that the data-to-solution map fails to be $C^3$ continuous in $M^{s}_{2,q}(\mathbb{R})$ when $s<1/4$. It is well-known that $H^{1/4}$ is a critical Sobolev space of mKdV so that it is well-posedness in $H^s$ for $s\geq 1/4$ and ill-posed (in the sense of uniform continuity) in $H^{s'}$ with $s'<1/4$. Noticing that $M^{1/4}_{2,q} \subset B^{1/q-1/4}_{2,q}$ is a sharp embedding and $H^{-1/4}\…
We are concerned with the Cauchy problem for the KdV equation for nonsmooth locally integrable initial profiles q's which are, in a certain sense, essentially bounded from below and q(x)=O(e^{-cx^{ε}}),x\rightarrow+\infty, with some positive c and ε. Using the inverse scattering transform, we show that the KdV flow turns such initial data into a function which is (1) meromorphic (in the space variable) on the whole complex plane if ε>1/2, (2) meromorphic on a strip around the real line if ε=1/2, and (3) Gevrey regular if ε<1/2. Note that q's need not have any decay or pattern of behavior at -\…
We study the Cauchy problem for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) hierarchy in the small dispersion limit where $\e\to 0$. For negative analytic initial data with a single negative hump, we prove that for small times, the solution is approximated by the solution to the hyperbolic transport equation which corresponds to $\e=0$. Near the time of gradient catastrophe for the transport equation, we show that the solution to the KdV hierarchy is approximated by a particular Painlevé transcendent. This supports Dubrovins universality conjecture concerning the critical behavior of Hamiltonian perturbations…
We study non-linear evolution equations with periodic initial conditions. In particular, we use the graph method introduced by Galavotti to prove the existence of global solution of Hamiltonian perturbation of KdV without any restriction on the size of the initial condition, in contrast with previous results on this subject.
This paper is devoted to studying the Cauchy problem for the generalized Ostrovsky equation \begin{eqnarray*} u_{t}-β\partial_{x}^{3}u-γ\partial_{x}^{-1}u+\frac{1}{k+1}(u^{k+1})_{x}=0,k\geq5 \end{eqnarray*} with $βγ<0,γ>0$. Firstly, we prove that the Cauchy problem for the generalized Ostrovsky equation is locally well-posed in $H^{s}(\mathbb{R})\left(s>\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2}{k}\right)$. Then, we prove that the Cauchy problem for the generalized Ostrovsky equation is locally well-posed in $X_{s}(\mathbb{R}): =\|f\|_{H^{s}}+\left\|\mathscr{F}_{x}^{-1}\left(\frac{\mathscr{F}_{x} f(ξ)}ξ\right)\righ…
We prove the local well-posedness for the Cauchy problem of the Korteweg-de Vries equation in a quasi periodic function space. The function space contains functions such that f=f_1+f_2+...+f_N where f_j is in the Sobolev space of order s>-1/2N of a_j periodic functions. Note that f is not a periodic function when the ratio of periods a_i/a_j is irrational. The main tool of the proof is the Fourier restriction norm method introduced by Bourgain. We also prove an ill-posedness result in the sense that the flow map (if it exists) is not C^2, which is related to the Diophantine problem.
We consider the generalized Korteweg-de Vries (gKdV) equation $\partial_t u+\partial_x^3u+μ\partial_x(u^{k+1})=0$, where $k\geq5$ is an integer number and $μ=\pm1$. In the focusing case ($μ=1$), we show that if the initial data $u_0$ belongs to $H^1(\R)$ and satisfies $E(u_0)^{s_k} M(u_0)^{1-s_k} < E(Q)^{s_k} M(Q)^{1-s_k}$, $E(u_0)\geq0$, and $\|\partial_x u_0\|_{L^2}^{s_k}\|u_0\|_{L^2}^{1-s_k} < \|\partial_x Q\|_{L^2}^{s_k}\|Q\|_{L^2}^{1-s_k}$, where $M(u)$ and $E(u)$ are the mass and energy, then the corresponding solution is global in $H^1(\R)$. Here, $s_k=\frac{(k-4)}{2k}$ and $Q$ is the g…
The well-posedness of Cauchy problem of 3D compressible Euler equations is studied. By using Smith-Tataru's approach \cite{ST}, we prove the local existence, uniqueness and stability of solutions for Cauchy problem of 3D compressible Euler equations, where the initial data of velocity, density, specific vorticity $v, ρ\in H^s, \varpi \in H^{s_0} (2<s_0<s)$. It's an alternative and simplified proof of the result given by Q. Wang in \cite{WQEuler}.
In this paper we express tau functions for the Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equation, as Laplace transforms of iterated Skorohod integrals. Our main tool is the notion of Fredholm determinant of an integral operator. Our result extends the paper of Ikeda and Taniguchi who obtained a stochastic representation of tau functions for the $N$-soliton solutions of KdV as the Laplace transform of a quadratic functional of $N$ independent Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. Our general result goes beyond the $N$-soliton case and enables us to consider a non soliton solution of KdV associated to a Gaussian process…
We study the Cauchy problem for the KdV equation $\partial_t u - 6 u \partial_x u + \partial_x^3 u = 0$ with almost periodic initial data $u(x,0)=V(x)$. We consider initial data $V$, for which the associated Schrödinger operator is absolutely continuous and has a spectrum that is not too thin in a sense we specify, and show the existence, uniqueness, and almost periodicity in time of solutions. This establishes a conjecture of Percy Deift for this class of initial data. The result is shown to apply to all small analytic quasiperiodic initial data with Diophantine frequency vector.
We obtain an asymptotic expansion for the solution of the Cauchy problem for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation in the small dispersion limit near the point of gradient catastrophe (x_c,t_c) for the solution of the dispersionless equation. The sub-leading term in this expansion is described by the smooth solution of a fourth order ODE, which is a higher order analogue to the Painleve I equation. This is in accordance with a conjecture of Dubrovin, suggesting that this is a universal phenomenon for any Hamiltonian perturbation of a hyperbolic equation. Using the Deift/Zhou steepest descent me…
We prove that the Cauchy problem of the mass-critical generalized KdV equation is globally well-posed in Sobolev spaces $H^s(\R)$ for $s>6/13$. Of course, we require that the mass is strictly less than that of the ground state in the focusing case. The main approach is the "I-method" together with the multilinear correction analysis. Moreover, we use some "partially refined" argument to lower the upper control of the multiplier in the resonant interactions. The result improves the previous works of Fonseca, Linares, Ponce (2003) and Farah (2009).
The Cauchy problem for a coupled Schroedinger and Benjamin - Ono system is shown to be globally well-posed for a class of data without finite energy. The proof uses the I-method introduced by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka, and Tao.
In the present paper we are concerned with the Novikov--Veselov equation at negative energy, i.e. with the $ (2 + 1) $--dimensional analog of the KdV equation integrable by the method of inverse scattering for the two--dimensional Schrödinger equation at negative energy. We show that the solution of the Cauchy problem for this equation with non--singular scattering data behaves asymptotically as $ \frac{\const}{t^{3/4}} $ in the uniform norm at large times $ t $. We also present some arguments which indicate that this asymptotics is optimal.
We paralinearize the Muskat equation to extract an explicit parabolic evolution equation having a compact form. This result is applied to give a simple proof of the local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for rough initial data, in homogeneous Sobolev spaces $\dot{H}^1(\mathbb{R})\cap \dot{H}^s(\mathbb{R})$ with $s>3/2$. This paper is essentially self-contained and does not rely on general results from paradifferential calculus.
In this paper, we establish the optimal convergence result of a second order exponential-type integrator from (136, Numer. Math., 2017) for solving the KdV equation under rough initial data. The scheme is explicit and efficient to implement. By rigorous error analysis, we show that the scheme provides the second order accuracy in $H^γ$ for initial data in $H^{γ+4}$ for any $γ\geq0$, where the regularity requirement is lower than the classical methods. The result is confirmed by numerical experiments and comparisons are made with the Strang splitting scheme.
We prove that the Cauchy problem for the KP-I equation is globally well-posed for initial data which are localized perturbations (of arbitrary size) of a non-localized (i.e. not decaying in all directions) traveling wave solution (e.g. the KdV line solitary wave or the Zaitsev solitary waves which are localized in $x$ and $y$ periodic or conversely).
The Fourier restriction norm method is used to show local wellposedness for the Cauchy Problem for the generalized KdV-equation of order three with data in the usual Sobolev space H^s, s > -1/6. For real valued data in L^2 global wellposedness follows by the conservation of the L^2-norm. The main new tool is a bilinear estimate for solutions of the Airy- equation.
