We present a stationary iteration method, namely Alternating Symmetric positive definite and Scaled symmetric positive semidefinite Splitting (ASSS), for solving the system of linear equations obtained by using finite element discretization of a distributed optimal control problem together with time-periodic parabolic equations. An upper bound for the spectral radius of the iteration method is given which is always less than 1. So convergence of the ASSS iteration method is guaranteed. The induced ASSS preconditioner is applied to accelerate the convergence speed of the GMRES method for solving the system. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of both the ASSS iteration method and the ASSS preconditioner.
The iterative problem of solving nonlinear equations is studied. A new Newton like iterative method with adjustable parameters is designed based on the dynamic system theory. In order to avoid the derivative function in the iterative scheme, the difference quotient is used instead of the derivative. Different from the existing methods, the difference quotient scheme in this paper has higher accuracy. Thus, the new iterative method is suitable for a wider range of initial values. Finally, several numerical examples are given to verify the practicability and superiority of the method.
It is well known that the choice of the iterative method is crucial in determining the speed of the converged solution. This article presents a detailed comparison between several iterative techniques for solving incmopressible Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical approaches implemented in the solver include Jacobi, Gauss-Siedel, Successive Over Relaxation, Alternating Direct Implicit and Multigrid methods. The results reveal that multigrid method is the most powerful iterative method among all other methods investigated in terms of the computational time and the number of iterations.
In this paper, we propose and analyze iterative method based on projection techniques to solve a non-singular linear system Ax = b. In particular, for a given positive integer m, m-dimensional successive projection method (mD-SPM) for symmetric definite matrix A, is generalized for non-singular matrix A. Moreover, it is proved that mD-SPM gives better result for large values of m. Numerical experiments are carried out to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method in comparison with other schemes in the scientific literature.
In this paper we consider a class of fourth order nonlinear integro-differential equations with Navier boundary conditions. By the reduction of the problem to operator equation we establish the existence and uniqueness of solution and construct a numerical method for solving it. We prove that the method is of second order accuracy and obtain an estimate for total error. Some examples demonstrate the validity of the obtained theoretical results and the efficiency of the numerical method.
This paper introduces and analyzes a preconditioned modified of the Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (PMHSS). The large sparse continuous Sylvester equations are solved by PMHSS iterative algorithm based on nonHermitian, complex, positive definite/semidefinite, and symmetric matrices. We prove that the PMHSS is converged under suitable conditions. In addition, we propose an accelerated PMHSS method consisting of two preconditioned matrices and two iteration parameters α, \b{eta}. Theoretical analysis showed that the convergence speed of the accelerated PMHSS is faster compared to the PMH…
In this article a modified Levenberg-Marquardt method coupled with a Kaczmarz strategy for obtaining stable solutions of nonlinear systems of ill-posed operator equations is investigated. We show that the proposed method is a convergent regularization method. Numerical tests are presented for a non-linear inverse doping problem based on a bipolar model.

A class of fast greedy block Kaczmarz methods combined with general greedy strategy and average technique are proposed for solving large consistent linear systems. Theoretical analysis of the convergence of the proposed method is given in detail. Numerical experiments show that the proposed methods are efficient and faster than the existing methods.
We introduce an iterative method named GPMR for solving 2x2 block unsymmetric linear systems. GPMR is based on a new process that reduces simultaneously two rectangular matrices to upper Hessenberg form and that is closely related to the block-Arnoldi process. GPMR is tantamount to Block-GMRES with two right-hand sides in which the two approximate solutions are summed at each iteration, but requires less storage and work per iteration. We compare the performance of GPMR with GMRES and Block-GMRES on linear systems from the SuiteSparse Matrix Collection. In our experiments, GPMR terminates sign…
Randomized iterative algorithms have attracted much attention in recent years because they can approximately solve large-scale linear systems of equations without accessing the entire coefficient matrix. In this paper, we propose two novel pseudoinverse-free randomized block iterative algorithms for solving consistent and inconsistent linear systems. The proposed algorithms require two user-defined random matrices: one for row sampling and the other for column sampling. We can recover the well-known doubly stochastic Gauss--Seidel, randomized Kaczmarz, randomized coordinate descent, and random…
We investigate the iterative methods proposed by Maz'ya and Kozlov (see [KM1], [KM2]) for solving ill-posed inverse problems modeled by partial differential equations. We consider linear evolutionary problems of elliptic, hyperbolic and parabolic types. Each iteration of the analyzed methods consists in the solution of a well posed problem (boundary value problem or initial value problem respectively). The iterations are described as powers of affine operators, as in [KM2]. We give alternative convergence proofs for the algorithms by using spectral theory and the fact that the linear parts of …
In this paper, an efficient iterative method is proposed for solving multiple scattering problem in locally inhomogeneous media. The key idea is to enclose the inhomogeneity of the media by well separated artificial boundaries and then apply purely outgoing wave decomposition for the scattering field outside the enclosed region. As a result, the original multiple scattering problem can be decomposed into a finite number of single scattering problems, where each of them communicates with the other scattering problems only through its surrounding artificial boundary. Accordingly, they can be sol…

The indefinite least squares (ILS) problem is a generalization of the famous linear least squares problem. It minimizes an indefinite quadratic form with respect to a signature matrix. For this problem, we first propose an impressively simple and effective splitting (SP) method according to its own structure and prove that it converges 'unconditionally' for any initial value. Further, to avoid implementing some matrix multiplications and calculating the inverse of large matrix and considering the acceleration and efficiency of the randomized strategy, we develop two randomized iterative method…
This paper develops and analyzes a general iterative framework for solving parameter-dependent and random convection-diffusion problems. It is inspired by the multi-modes method of [7,8] and the ensemble method of [20] and extends those methods into a more general and unified framework. The main idea of the framework is to reformulate the underlying problem into another problem with parameter-independent convection and diffusion coefficients and a parameter-dependent (and solution-dependent) right-hand side, a fixed-point iteration is then employed to compute the solution of the reformulated p…
We consider the iterative solution of large linear systems of equations in which the coefficient matrix is the sum of two terms, a sparse matrix $A$ and a possibly dense, rank deficient matrix of the form $γUU^T$, where $γ> 0$ is a parameter which in some applications may be taken to be 1. The matrix $A$ itself can be singular, but we assume that the symmetric part of $A$ is positive semidefinite and that $A+γUU^T$ is nonsingular. Linear systems of this form arise frequently in fields like optimization, fluid mechanics, computational statistics, and others. We investigate preconditioning strat…
This paper presents the results of a preliminary experimental investigation of the performance of a stationary iterative method based on a block staircase splitting for solving singular systems of linear equations arising in Markov chain modelling. From the experiments presented, we can deduce that the method is well suited for solving block banded or more generally localized systems in a parallel computing environment. The parallel implementation has been benchmarked using several Markovian models.
In this article, we describe an implementation of a polynomial system solver to compute the approximate solutions of a 0-dimensional polynomial system with finite precision p-adic arithmetic. We also describe an improvement to an algorithm of Caruso, Roe, and Vaccon for calculating the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a p-adic matrix.
We propose a simple doubly stochastic block Gauss--Seidel algorithm for solving linear systems of equations. By varying the row partition parameter and the column partition parameter of the coefficient matrix, we recover the Landweber algorithm, the randomized Kaczmarz algorithm, the randomized Gauss--Seidel algorithm, and the doubly stochastic Gauss--Seidel algorithm. For general (consistent or inconsistent) linear systems, we show the exponential convergence of the {\it norms of the expected iterates} via exact formulas. For consistent linear systems, we prove the exponential convergence of …
We investigate the Cauchy problem for elliptic operators with $C^\infty$-coefficients at a regular set $Ω\subset R^2$, which is a classical example of an ill-posed problem. The Cauchy data are given at the subset $Γ\subset \partialΩ$ and our objective is to reconstruct the trace of the $H^1(Ω)$ solution of an elliptic equation at $\partial Ω/ Γ$. The method described here is a generalization of the algorithm developed by Maz'ya et al. [Ma] for the Laplace operator, who proposed a method based on solving successive well-posed mixed boundary value problems (BVP) using the given Cauchy data as pa…
