A class of implicit Milstein type methods is introduced and analyzed in the present article for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with non-globally Lipschitz drift and diffusion coefficients. By incorporating a pair of method parameters $θ, η\in [0, 1]$ into both the drift and diffusion parts, the new schemes are indeed a kind of drift-diffusion double implicit methods. Within a general framework, we offer upper mean-square error bounds for the proposed schemes, based on certain error terms only getting involved with the exact solution processes. Such error bounds help us to easily analyze mean-square convergence rates of the schemes, without relying on a priori high-order moment estimates of numerical approximations. Putting further globally polynomial growth condition, we successfully recover the expected mean-square convergence rate of order one for the considered schemes with $θ\in [\tfrac12, 1], η\in [0, 1]$. Also, some of the proposed schemes are applied to solve three SDE models evolving in the positive domain $(0, \infty)$. More specifically, the particular drift-diffusion implicit Milstein method ($ θ= η= 1 $) is utilized to approximate the Heston $\tfrac32$-volatility model and the stochastic Lotka-Volterra competition model. The semi-implicit Milstein method ($θ=1, η= 0$) is used to solve the Ait-Sahalia interest rate model. Thanks to the previously obtained error bounds, we reveal the optimal mean-square convergence rate of the positivity preserving schemes under more relaxed conditions, compared with existing relevant results in the literature. Numerical examples are also reported to confirm the previous findings.
We combine the rough path theory and stochastic backward error analysis to develop a new framework for error analysis on numerical schemes. Based on our approach, we prove that the almost sure convergence rate of the modified Milstein scheme for stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative multidimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac14,\frac12)$ is $(2H-\frac12)^-$ for sufficiently smooth coefficients, which is optimal in the sense that it is consistent with the result of the corresponding implementable approximation of the Lévy area of fractional …
We deal with pointwise approximation of solutions of scalar stochastic differential equations in the presence of informational noise about underlying drift and diffusion coefficients. We define a randomized derivative-free version of Milstein algorithm $\mathcal{\bar A}^{df-RM}_n$ and investigate its error. We also study lower bounds on the error of an arbitrary algorithm. It turns out that in some case the scheme $\mathcal{\bar A}^{df-RM}_n$ is the optimal one. Finally, in order to test the algorithm $\mathcal{\bar A}^{df-RM}_n$ in practice, we report performed numerical experiments.
We introduce an explicit adaptive Milstein method for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with no commutativity condition. The drift and diffusion are separately locally Lipschitz and together satisfy a monotone condition. This method relies on a class of path-bounded time-stepping strategies which work by reducing the stepsize as solutions approach the boundary of a sphere, invoking a backstop method in the event that the timestep becomes too small. We prove that such schemes are strongly $L_2$ convergent of order one. This order is inherited by an explicit adaptive Euler-Maruyama scheme…
A new explicit stochastic scheme of order 1 is proposed for solving commutative stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with non-globally Lipschitz continuous coefficients. The proposed method is a semi-tamed version of Milstein scheme to solve SDEs with the drift coefficient consisting of non-Lipschitz continuous term and globally Lipschitz continuous term. It is easily implementable and achieves higher strong convergence order. A stability criterion for this method is derived, which shows that the stability condition of the numerical methods and that of the solved equations keep uniform. Co…
In this paper, we apply the tamed technique to the Milstein numerical scheme to investigate Neutral Stochastic Delay Differential Equations(NSDDEs) with highly nonlinear coefficients. Under the local Lipschitz condition and Khasminskii condition, the tamed Milstein numerical solution converges strongly to the exact solution.
In this paper, we derive fully implementable first order time-stepping schemes for McKean--Vlasov stochastic differential equations (McKean--Vlasov SDEs), allowing for a drift term with super-linear growth in the state component. We propose Milstein schemes for a time-discretised interacting particle system associated with the McKean--Vlasov equation and prove strong convergence of order 1 and moment stability, taming the drift if only a one-sided Lipschitz condition holds. To derive our main results on strong convergence rates, we make use of calculus on the space of probability measures with…
We present an error analysis of weak convergence of one-step numerical schemes for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with super-linearly growing coefficients. Following Milstein's weak error analysis on the one-step approximation of SDEs, we prove a general conclusion on weak convergence of the one-step discretization of the SDEs mentioned above. As applications, we show the weak convergence rates for several numerical schemes of half-order strong convergence, such as tamed and balanced schemes. Numerical examples are presented to verify our theoretical analysis.

In this paper, we introduce adaptive Euler-Maruyama schemes for McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (SDEs) assuming only a standard monotonicity condition on the drift and diffusion coefficients but no global Lipschitz continuity in the state variable for either, while global Lipschitz continuity is required for the measure component only. We prove moment stability of the discretised processes and a strong convergence rate of $1/2$. Several numerical examples, centred around a mean-field model for FitzHugh-Nagumo neurons, illustrate that the standard uniform scheme fails and that t…
In this paper, we first establish well-posedness of McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (McKean-Vlasov SDEs) with common noise, possibly with coefficients having super-linear growth in the state variable. Second, we present stable time-stepping schemes for this class of McKean-Vlasov SDEs. Specifically, we propose an explicit tamed Euler and tamed Milstein scheme for an interacting particle system associated with the McKean-Vlasov equation. We prove stability and strong convergence of order $1/2$ and $1$, respectively. To obtain our main results, we employ techniques from calculus …

On the infinite time horizon approximation for Lévy-driven McKean-Vlasov SDEs with non-globally Lipschitz continuous and super-linearly growth drift and diffusion coefficients
We consider the long-time behavior of an explicit tamed Euler scheme applied to a class of stochastic differential equations driven by additive noise, under a one-sided Lipschitz continuity condition. The setting encompasses drift nonlinearities with polynomial growth. First, we prove that moment bounds for the numerical scheme hold, with at most polynomial dependence with respect to the time horizon. Second, we apply this result to obtain error estimates, in the weak sense, in terms of the time-step size and of the time horizon, to quantify the error to approximate averages with respect to th…

In this article, we construct and analyse an explicit numerical splitting method for a class of semi-linear stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with additive noise, where the drift is allowed to grow polynomially and satisfies a global one-sided Lipschitz condition. The method is proved to be mean-square convergent of order 1 and to preserve important structural properties of the SDE. First, it is hypoelliptic in every iteration step. Second, it is geometrically ergodic and has an asymptotically bounded second moment. Third, it preserves oscillatory dynamics, such as amplitudes, frequenci…
In this paper, by employing Gaussian type estimate of heat kernel, we establish Krylov's estimate and Khasminskill's estimate for EM algorithm. As applications, by taking Zvonkin's transformation into account, we investigate convergence rate of EM algorithm for a class of multidimensional SDEs under integrability conditions, where the drifts need not to be piecewise Lipschitz and are much more singular in some sense.
