Let $(F_n)_{n \geq 1}$ be the sequence of Fibonacci numbers. Guy and Matiyasevich proved that \begin{equation*} \log \operatorname{lcm} (F_1, F_2, \dots, F_n) \sim \frac{3 \log α}{π^2} \cdot n^2 \quad \text{as } n \to +\infty, \end{equation*} where $\operatorname{lcm}$ is the least common multiple and $α:= \big(1 + \sqrt{5}) / 2$ is the golden ratio.
We prove that for every periodic sequence $\mathbf{s} = (s_n)_{n \geq 1}$ in $\{-1,+1\}$ there exists an effectively computable rational number $C_{\mathbf{s}} > 0$ such that \begin{equation*} \log \operatorname{lcm} (F_3 + s_3, F_4 + s_4, \dots, F_n + s_n) \sim \frac{3 \log α}{π^2} \cdot C_\mathbf{s} \cdot n^2 , \quad \text{as } n \to +\infty . \end{equation*} Moreover, we show that if $(s_n)_{n \geq 1}$ is a sequence of independent uniformly distributed random variables in $\{-1,+1\}$ then \begin{equation*} \mathbb{E}\big[\log \operatorname{lcm} (F_3 + s_3, F_4 + s_4, \dots, F_n + s_n)\big] \sim \frac{3 \log α}{π^2} \cdot \frac{15 \operatorname{Li}_2(1 / 16)}{2} \cdot n^2 , \quad \text{as } n \to +\infty , \end{equation*} where $\operatorname{Li}_2$ is the dilogarithm function.
Let $(F_n)$ be the sequence of Fibonacci numbers and, for each positive integer $k$, let $\mathcal{P}_k$ be the set of primes $p$ such that $\gcd(p - 1, F_{p - 1}) = k$. We prove that the relative density $\text{r}(\mathcal{P}_k)$ of $\mathcal{P}_k$ exists, and we give a formula for $\text{r}(\mathcal{P}_k)$ in terms of an absolutely convergent series. Furthermore, we give an effective criterion to establish if a given $k$ satisfies $\text{r}(\mathcal{P}_k) > 0$, and we provide upper and lower bounds for the counting function of the set of such $k$'s. As an application of our results, we give …
We develop a general framework for finding all perfect powers in sequences derived by shifting non-degenerate quadratic Lucas-Lehmer binary recurrence sequences by a fixed integer. By combining this setup with bounds for linear forms in logarithms and results based upon the modularity of elliptic curves defined over totally real fields, we are able to answer a question of Bugeaud, Luca, Mignotte and the third author by explicitly finding all perfect powers of the shape $F_k \pm 2 $ where $F_k$ is the $k$-th term in the Fibonacci sequence.
In this paper we study the Fibonacci numbers and derive some interesting properties and recurrence relations. We prove some charecterizations for $F_p$, where $p$ is a prime of a certain type. We also define period of a Fibonacci sequence modulo an integer, $m$ and derive certain interesting properties related to them. Afterwards, we derive some new properties of a class of generalized Fibonacci numbers. In the last part of the paper we introduce some generalized Fibonacci polynomial sequences and we derive some results related to them.
In part 1 of this paper some linear weighted generalized Fibonacci number summation identities were derived using the fact that the Fibonacci number is the residue of a rational function. In this part, using the same method, some quadratic and cubic weighted generalized Fibonacci number summation identities are derived, including some infinite series and generating functions. In addition some quadratic and cubic weighted generalized Fibonacci number summation identities with binomial coefficients, and some cubic and quartic Fibonacci and Lucas number summation identities are derived.
In this paper, we consider infinite sums derived from the reciprocals of the generalized Fibonacci numbers. We obtain some new and interesting identities for the generalized Fibonacci numbers.
In this paper, we define the bi-periodic Fibonacci matrix sequence that represent bi-periodic Fibonacci numbers. Then, we investigate generating function, Binet formula and summations of bi-periodic Fibonacci matrix sequence. After that, we say that some behaviours of bi-periodic Fibonacci numbers also can be obtained by considering properties of this new matrix sequence. Finally, we express that well-known matrix sequences, such as Fibonacci, Pell, $k$-Fibonacci matrix sequences are special cases of this generalized matrix sequence.
Based on the structure of Fibonacci sequence, we give a new proof for the irrationality exponents of the Fibonacci real numbers. Moreover, we obtain all the irrationality exponents of the real numbers corresponding to the differences of Fibonacci sequence.
An amusing connection between Ford circles, Fibonacci numbers, and golden ratio is shown. Namely, certain tangency points of Ford circles are concyclic and involve Fibonacci numbers. They form four circles that cut the x-axis at points related to the golden ratio.
Let $(F_n)_{n\geq 0}$ and $(L_n)_{n\geq 0}$ be the Fibonacci and Lucas sequences, respectively. In this paper we determine all Fibonacci numbers which are mixed concatenations of a Fibonacci and a Lucas numbers. By mixed concatenations of $ a $ and $ b $, we mean the both concatenations $\overline{ab}$ and $\overline{ba}$ together, where $ a $ and $ b $ are any two non negative integers. So, the mathematical formulation of this problem leads us searching the solutions of two Diophantine equations $ F_n=10^d F_m +L_k $ and $ F_n=10^d L_m+F_k $ in non-negative integers $ (n,m,k) ,$ where $ d $ d…
In this paper, we present a new approach to the convolved Fibonacci numbers arising from the generating function of them and give some new and explicit identities for the convolved Fibonacci numbers.
In this paper, we study the theory of the harmonic and the hyperharmonic Fibonacci numbers. Also, we get some combinatoric identities like as harmonic and hyperharmonic numbers and we obtain some useful formulas for $\mathbb{F}_{n}$, which is finite sums of reciprocals of Fibonacci numbers. We obtain spectral and Euclidean norms of circulant matrices involving harmonic and hyperharmonic Fibonacci numbers.
In this paper, we study norms of circulant and $r-$circulant matrices involving harmonic Fibonacci and hyperharmonic Fibonacci numbers. We obtain inequalities by using matrix norms.
In this study, we define a new type of Fibonacci and Lucas num- bers which are called bicomplex Fibonacci and bicomplex Lucas numbers. We obtain the well-known properties e.g. Docagnes, Cassini, Catalan for these new types. We also give the identities of negabicomplex Fibonacci and negabi- complex Lucas numbers, Binet formulas and relations of them.
In this work we discuss Dirichlet products evaluated at Fibonacci numbers. As first applications of the results we get a representation of Fibonacci numbers in terms of Euler's totient function, an upper bound on the number of primitive prime divisors and representations of some related Euler products. Moreover, we sum functions over all primitive divisors of a Fibonacci number and obtain a non--trivial fixed point of this operation.
In this paper,we find all generalized Fibonacci numbers which are Narayana's cows numbers. In our proofs, we use both Baker's theory of nonzero linear forms in logarithms of algebraic numbers and the Baker-Davenport reduction method.
In this paper, we present a new generalization of the Lucas numbers by matrix representation using Genaralized Lucas Polynomials. We give some properties of this new generalization and some relations between the generalized order-k Lucas numbers and generalized order-k Fibonacci numbers. In addition, we obtain Binet formula and combinatorial representation for generalized order-k Lucas numbers by using properties of generalized Fibonacci numbers.
In this paper, we prove that there is no x>=4 such that the difference of x-th powers of two consecutive Fibonacci numbers greater than 0 is a Lucas number.
By investigating a recurrence relation about functions, we first give alternative proofs of various identities on Fibonacci numbers and Lucas numbers, and then, make certain well known identities visible via certain trivalent graph associated to the recurrence relation.
In this note, infinite series involving Fibonacci and Lucas numbers are derived by employing formulae similar to that which Roger Apéry utilized in his seminal paper proving the irrationality of $ζ(3)$.
At this paper, we derive some relationships between permanents of one type of lower-Hessenberg matrix and the Fibonacci and Lucas numbers and their sums.
The purpose of this article is to present closed forms for various types of infinite series involving Fibonacci (Lucas) numbers and the Riemann zeta function at integer arguments.
In this paper, we consider the new family of recurrence sequences of $(q,k)$-generalized Fibonacci numbers. These sequences naturally extend the well-known sequences of $k$-generalized Fibonacci numbers and generalized $k$-order Pell numbers. We shall obtain a Binet-style formula and study the asymptotic behavior of dominant root of characteristic equation. Moreover, we shall prove some auxiliary results about these sequences. In particular, we characterize the first $(q,k)$-generalized Fibonacci numbers in terms of binary sequences.
This paper is concerned with developing some new identities of generalized Fibonacci numbers and generalized Pell numbers. A new class of generalized numbers is introduced for this purpose. The two well-known identities of Sury and Marques which are recently developed are deduced as special cases. Moreover, some other interesting identities involving the celebrated Fibonacci, Lucas, Pell and Pell-Lucas numbers are also deduced
In this paper, we find all the sums of three Fibonacci numbers which are close to a power of 2. This paper continues and extends the previous work of Hasanalizade \cite{Hasanalizade}.
Let ${\mathcal F}=(F_i:i\ge 0)$ be the sequence of Fibonacci numbers, and $j$ and $e$ be non negative integers. We study the periodicity of the power Fibonacci sequences ${\mathcal F}^e(F_j)=(F_i^e\pmod{F_j}: i\ge 0)$. It is shown that for every $j,e\ge 1$ the sequence ${\mathcal F}^e(F_j)$ is periodic and its periodicity is computed. The result was previously known for ${\mathcal F}(F_j)$; that is, for $e=1$. For $e\in \{1, 2\}$, the values of the normalized residues $ρ_i\equiv F_i^e\pmod{F_j}$ with $0\le ρ_i<F_j-1$ are obtained.
Using a straightforward elementary approach, we derive numerous infinite arctangent summation formulas involving Fibonacci and Lucas numbers. While most of the results obtained are new, a couple of celebrated results appear as particular cases of the more general formulas derived here.
One of the best known and oldest identities for the Fibonacci sequence $F_n$ is $F_{n+1}F_{n-1}-F_{n}^2=(-1)^n$ which was derived first by R. Simson in 1753 and it is now called as Simson or Cassini Identity. In this paper, we generalize this result to generalized m-step Fibonacci numbers and give an attractive formula. Furthermore, we present some Simson's identities of particular generalized m-step Fibonacci sequences.
We present some results about the number of rational points on a certain family of curves defined over a finite field. In a small number of cases the curves have more rational points than expected. Fibonacci numbers make an appearance, as do cyclotomic polynomials.
We show that the product of two consecutive Fibonacci (respectively Lucas) numbers is divisible by the sum of their indices if this sum is a prime number different from 5 and in the form (4r+1)(respectively (4r+3)).
We study the equation $F_n + F_m = y^p$, where $F_n$ and $F_m$ are respectively the $n$-th and $m$-th Fibonacci numbers and $p \ge 2$. We find all solutions under the assumption $n \equiv m \pmod{2}$.
We show among others that the formula: $$ \lfloor n + \log_Φ\{\sqrt{5}(\log_Φ(\sqrt{5}n) + n) -5 + \frac{3}{n}\} - 2 \rfloor (n \geq 2), $$ (where $Φ$ denotes the golden ratio and $\lfloor \rfloor$ denotes the integer part) generates the non-Fibonacci numbers.
We present numerous interesting, mostly new, results involving the $n$-step Fibonacci numbers and $n$-step Lucas numbers and a generalization. Properties considered include recurrence relations, summation identities, including binomial and double binomial summation identities, partial sums and ordinary generating functions. Explicit examples are given for small $n$ values.
By applying the classic telescoping summation formula and its variants to identities involving inverse hyperbolic tangent functions having inverse powers of the golden ratio as arguments and employing subtle properties of the Fibonacci and Lucas numbers, we derive interesting general infinite product identities involving these numbers.
Let $F_n$ denote the $n$-th Fibonacci number and $L_n$ the $n$-th Lucas number. We completely solve the family of cubic Thue equations $${(X-F_nY)(X-L_nY)X-Y^3=\pm1}$$ and show that there are no non-trivial solutions for $n\neq 1,3$.
We obtain explicit factored closed-form expressions for Fibonacci and Lucas sums of the form \mbox{$\sum_{k = 1}^n {F_{2rk}^3 }$} and \mbox{$\sum_{k = 1}^n {L_{2rk}^3 }$}, where $r$~and~$n$ are integers.
In this paper, bicomplex k-Fibonacci quaternions are defined. Also, some algebraic properties of bicomplex k-Fibonacci quaternions which are connected with bicomplex numbers and k-Fibonacci numbers are investigated. Furthermore, the Honsberger identity, the d'Ocagne's identity, Binet's formula, Cassini's identity, Catalan's identity for these quaternions are given.
We obtain closed-form expressions for all sums of the form \mbox{$\sum_{k = 1}^n {F_{mk}{}^4 }$} and \mbox{$\sum_{k = 1}^n {L_{mk}{}^4 }$} and their alternating versions, where $F_i$ and $L_i$ denote Fibonacci and Lucas numbers respectively. Our results complement those of Melham who studied the alternating sums.
A second order polynomial sequence is of Fibonacci-type $\mathcal{F}_{n}$ (Lucas-type $\mathcal{L}_{n}$) if its Binet formula has a structure similar to that for Fibonacci (Lucas) numbers. Under certain conditions these polynomials are irreducible if and only if $n$ is a prime number. For example, the Fibonacci polynomials, Pell polynomials, Fermat polynomials, Lucas polynomials, Pell-Lucas polynomials, Fermat-Lucas polynomials are irreducible when $n$ is a prime number; and Chebyshev polynomials (second kind), Morgan-Voyce polynomials (Fibonacci type), and Vieta polynomials are reducible when…
We derive generalizations of a couple of inverse tangent summation identities involving Fibonacci and Lucas numbers. As byproducts we establish many new inverse tangent identities involving the Fibonacci and Lucas numbers.
In this paper, we show that if $p\equiv 1\pmod 4$ is prime, then $4F_p$ admits a representation of the form $u^2-pv^2$ for some integers $u$ and $v$, where $F_n$ is the $n$th Fibonacci number. We prove a similar result when $p\equiv -1\pmod 4$.
Let us denote by $F_n$ the $n$-th Fibonacci number. In this paper we show that for a fixed integer $y$ there exists at most one integer exponent $a>0$ such that the Diophantine equation $F_n+F_m=y^a$ has a solution $(n,m,a)$ in positive integers satisfying $n>m>0$, unless $y=2,3,4,6$ or $10$.
For an integer $k\ge 2$, let $\{F^{(k)}_{n}\}_{n\ge 2-k}$ be the $ k$--generalized Fibonacci sequence which starts with $0, \ldots, 0,1$ (a total of $k$ terms) and for which each term afterwards is the sum of the $k$ preceding terms. In this paper, we find all integers $ c $ with at least two representations as a difference between a $ k $-generalized Fibonacci number and a power of $ 3 $. This paper continues the previous work of the first author for the Fibonacci numbers, and the Tribonacci numbers.
