In this work, we consider the Dirichlet boundary value problem for nonlinear triharmonic equation. Due to the reduction of the nonlinear boundary value problem to operator equation for the nonlinear term and the unknown second normal derivative we design an iterative method at both continuous and discrete level for numerical solution of the problem. Some examples demonstrate that the numerical method is of fourth order convergence.
In this work, we consider a boundary value problem for nonlinear triharmonic equation. Due to the reduction of nonlinear boundary value problems to operator equation for nonlinear terms we establish the existence, uniqueness and positivity of solution. More importantly, we design an iterative method at both continuous and discrete level for numerical solution of the problem. An analysis of actual total error of the obtained discrete solution is made. Some examples demonstrate the applicability of the theoretical results on qualitative aspects and the efficiency of the iterative method.

We examine the use of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann coarse space within an additive Schwarz method to solve the Helmholtz equation in 2D. In particular, we focus on the selection of how many eigenfunctions should go into the coarse space. We find that wave number independent convergence of a preconditioned iterative method can be achieved in certain special cases with an appropriate and novel choice of threshold in the selection criteria. However, this property is lost in a more general setting, including the heterogeneous problem. Nonetheless, the approach converges in a small number of iterations…
We consider the Cauchy problem for the Helmholtz equation with a domain in R^d, d>2 with N cylindrical outlets to infinity with bounded inclusions in R^{d-1}. Cauchy data are prescribed on the boundary of the bounded domains and the aim is to find solution on the unbounded part of the boundary. In 1989, Kozlov and Maz'ya proposed an alternating iterative method for solving Cauchy problems associated with elliptic,self-adjoint and positive-definite operators in bounded domains. Different variants of this method for solving Cauchy problems associated with Helmholtz-type operators exists. We cons…

We make the split of the integral fractional Laplacian as $(-Δ)^s u=(-Δ)(-Δ)^{s-1}u$, where $s\in(0,\frac{1}{2})\cup(\frac{1}{2},1)$. Based on this splitting, we respectively discretize the one- and two-dimensional integral fractional Laplacian with the inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition and give the corresponding truncation errors with the help of the interpolation estimate. Moreover, the suitable corrections are proposed to guarantee the convergence in solving the inhomogeneous fractional Dirichlet problem and an $\mathcal{O}(h^{1+α-2s})$ convergence rate is obtained when the solutio…
In this paper, a meshless Hermite-HDMR finite difference method is proposed to solve high-dimensional Dirichlet problems. The approach is based on the local Hermite-HDMR expansion with an additional smoothing technique. First, we introduce the HDMR decomposition combined with the multiple Hermite series to construct a class of Hermite-HDMR approximations, and the relevant error estimate is theoretically built in a class of Hermite spaces. It can not only provide high order convergence but also retain good scaling with increasing dimensions. Then the Hermite-HDMR based finite difference method …
We solve first-kind Fredholm boundary integral equations arising from Helmholtz and Laplace problems on bounded, smooth screens in three-dimensions with either Dirichlet or Neumann conditions. The proposed Galerkin-Bubnov method takes as discretization elements pushed-forward weighted azimuthal projections of standard spherical harmonics onto the canonical disk. We show that these bases allow for spectral convergence and provide fully discrete error analysis. Numerical experiments support our claims, with results comparable to Nyström-type and $hp$-methods.
In this paper, we propose a meshfree method based on the Gaussian radial basis function (RBF) to solve both classical and fractional PDEs. The proposed method takes advantage of the analytical Laplacian of Gaussian functions so as to accommodate the discretization of the classical and fractional Laplacian in a single framework and avoid the large computational cost for numerical evaluation of the fractional derivatives. These important merits distinguish it from other numerical methods for fractional PDEs. Moreover, our method is simple and easy to handle complex geometry and local refinement,…

In this article we combine the projective Landweber method, recently proposed by the authors, with Kaczmarz's method for solving systems of non-linear ill-posed equations. The underlying assumption used in this work is the tangential cone condition. We show that the proposed iteration is a convergent regularization method. Numerical tests are presented for a non-linear inverse problem related to the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map, indicating a superior performance of the proposed method when compared with other well established iterations. Our preliminary investigation indicates that the resulting i…

In this paper, we revisit the nonoverlapping domain decomposition methods for solving elliptic problems with high contrast coefficients. Some interesting results are discovered. We find that the Dirichlet-Neumann algorithm and Robin-Robin algorithms may make full use of the ratio of coefficients. Actually, in the case of two subdomains, we show that their convergence rates are $O(ε)$, if $ν_1\llν_2$, where $ε= ν_1/ν_2$ and $ν_1,ν_2$ are coefficients of two subdomains. Moreover, in the case of many subdomains, the condition number bounds of Dirichlet-Neumann algorithm and Robin-Robin algorithm …
Deep Ritz methods (DRM) have been proven numerically to be efficient in solving partial differential equations. In this paper, we present a convergence rate in $H^{1}$ norm for deep Ritz methods for Laplace equations with Dirichlet boundary condition, where the error depends on the depth and width in the deep neural networks and the number of samples explicitly. Further we can properly choose the depth and width in the deep neural networks in terms of the number of training samples. The main idea of the proof is to decompose the total error of DRM into three parts, that is approximation error,…

In the present paper we describe a class of algorithms for the solution of Laplace's equation on polygonal domains with Neumann boundary conditions. It is well known that in such cases the solutions have singularities near the corners which poses a challenge for many existing methods. If the boundary data is smooth on each edge of the polygon, then in the vicinity of each corner the solution to the corresponding boundary integral equation has an expansion in terms of certain (analytically available) singular powers. Using the known behavior of the solution, universal discretizations have been …
We present an efficient algorithm to solve elliptic Dirichlet problems defined on the cluster of $\mathbb{Z}^d$ supercritical Bernoulli percolation, as a generalization of the iterative method proposed by S. Armstrong, A. Hannukainen, T. Kuusi and J.-C. Mourrat. We also explore the two-scale expansion on the infinite cluster of percolation, and use it to give a rigorous analysis of the algorithm.
The diffuse-domain, or smoothed boundary, method is an attractive approach for solving partial differential equations in complex geometries because of its simplicity and flexibility. In this method the complex geometry is embedded into a larger, regular domain. The original PDE is reformulated using a smoothed characteristic function of the complex domain and source terms are introduced to approximate the boundary conditions. The reformulated equation, which is independent of the dimension and domain geometry, can be solved by standard numerical methods and the same solver can be used for any …

We study the elastic time-harmonic wave scattering problems on unbounded domains with boundaries composed of finite collections of disjoints finite open arcs (or cracks) in two dimensions. Specifically, we present a fast spectral Galerkin method for solving the associated weakly- and hyper-singular boundary integral equations (BIEs) arising from Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions, respectively. Discretization bases of the resulting BIEs employ weighted Chebyshev polynomials that capture the solutions' edge behavior. We show that these bases guarantee exponential convergence in the polyn…
A method is presented to include irregular domain boundaries in a geometric multigrid solver. Dirichlet boundary conditions can be imposed on an irregular boundary defined by a level set function. Our implementation employs quadtree/octree grids with adaptive refinement, a cell-centered discretization and pointwise smoothing. Boundary locations are determined at a subgrid resolution by performing line searches. For grid blocks near the interface, custom operator stencils are stored that take the interface into account. For grid block away from boundaries, a standard second-order accurate discr…

In this paper, we extend the class of kernel methods, the so-called diffusion maps (DM), and its local kernel variants, to approximate second-order differential operators defined on smooth manifolds with boundaries that naturally arise in elliptic PDE models. To achieve this goal, we introduce the Ghost Point Diffusion Maps (GPDM) estimator on an extended manifold, identified by the set of point clouds on the unknown original manifold together with a set of ghost points, specified along the estimated tangential direction at the sampled points at the boundary. The resulting GPDM estimator restr…
