Given complex parameters $x$, $ν$, $α$, $β$ and $γ\notin -\mathbb{N}$, consider the infinite lower triangular matrix $\mathbf{A}(x,ν;α, β,γ)$ with elements $$ A_{n,k}(x,ν;α,β,γ) = \displaystyle (-1)^k\binom{n+α}{k+α} \cdot F(k-n,-(β+n)ν;-(γ+n);x) $$ for $1 \leqslant k \leqslant n$, depending on the Hypergeometric polynomials $F(-n,\cdot;\cdot;x)$, $n \in \mathbb{N}^*$. After stating a general criterion for the inversion of infinite matrices in terms of associated generating functions, we prove that the inverse matrix $\mathbf{B}(x,ν;α, β,γ) = \mathbf{A}(x,ν;α, β,γ)^{-1}$ is given by \begin{align} B_{n,k}(x,ν;α, β,γ) = & \; \displaystyle (-1)^k\binom{n+α}{k+α} \; \cdot \nonumber \\ & \; \biggl [ \; \frac{γ+k}{β+k} \, F(k-n,(β+k)ν;γ+k;x) \; + \nonumber \\ & \; \; \; \frac{β-γ}{β+k} \, F(k-n,(β+k)ν;1+γ+k;x) \; \biggr ] \nonumber \end{align} for $1 \leqslant k \leqslant n$, thus providing a new class of linear inversion formulas. Functional relations for the generating functions of related sequences $S$ and $T$, that is, $T = \mathbf{A}(x,ν;α, β,γ) \, S \Longleftrightarrow S = \mathbf{B}(x,ν;α, β,γ) \, T$, are also provided.
Multidimensional matrix inversions provide a powerful tool for studying multiple hypergeometric series. In order to extend this technique to elliptic hypergeometric series, we present three new multidimensional matrix inversions. As applications, we obtain a new $A_r$ elliptic Jackson summation, as well as several quadratic, cubic and quartic summation formulas.
In this paper, we propose a general method to express explicitly the inversion and the connection coefficients between two basic hypergeometric polynomial sets. As application, we consider some $d$-orthogonal basic hypergeometric polynomials and we derive expansion formulae corresponding to all the families within the $q$-Askey scheme.
We present a new matrix inverse with applications in the theory of bilateral basic hypergeometric series. Our matrix inversion result is directly extracted from an instance of Bailey's very-well-poised 6-psi-6 summation theorem, and involves two infinite matrices which are not lower-triangular. We combine our bilateral matrix inverse with known basic hypergeometric summation theorems to derive, via inverse relations, several new identities for bilateral basic hypergeometric series.
Using Krattenthaler's operator method, we give a new proof of Warnaar's recent elliptic extension of Krattenthaler's matrix inversion. Further, using a theta function identity closely related to Warnaar's inversion, we derive summation and transformation formulas for elliptic hypergeometric series of Karlsson-Minton-type. A special case yields a particular summation that was used by Warnaar to derive quadratic, cubic and quartic transformations for elliptic hypergeometric series. Starting from another theta function identity, we derive yet different summation and transformation formulas for el…
In [Electron. J. Combin. 10 (2003), #R10], the author presented a new basic hypergeometric matrix inverse with applications to bilateral basic hypergeometric series. This matrix inversion result was directly extracted from an instance of Bailey's very-well-poised 6-psi-6 summation theorem, and involves two infinite matrices which are not lower-triangular. The present paper features three different multivariable generalizations of the above result. These are extracted from Gustafson's A_r and C_r extensions and of the author's recent A_r extension of Bailey's 6-psi-6 summation formula. By combi…
For any complex parameters $x$ and $ν$, we provide a new class of linear inversion formulas $T = A(x,ν) \cdot S \Leftrightarrow S = B(x,ν) \cdot T$ between sequences $S = (S_n)_{n \in \mathbb{N}^*}$ and $T = (T_n)_{n \in \mathbb{N}^*}$, where the infinite lower-triangular matrix $A(x,ν)$ and its inverse $B(x,ν)$ involve Hypergeometric polynomials $F(\cdot)$, namely $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} A_{n,k}(x,ν) = \displaystyle (-1)^k\binom{n}{k}F(k-n,-nν;-n;x), \\ B_{n,k}(x,ν) = \displaystyle (-1)^k\binom{n}{k}F(k-n,kν;k;x) \end{array} \right. $$ for $1 \leqslant k \leqslant n$. Functional relation…
In this paper we derive the infinite summation formulas of Srivastava's general triple hypergeometric function. Certain particular cases leading to infinite summation formulas for fourteen Lauricella and three Srivastavaś triple hypergeometric functions are also presented.
We show a connection formula for the $q$-confluent hypergeometric functions ${}_2φ_1(a,b;0;q,x)$. Combining our connection formula with Zhang's connection formula for ${}_2φ_0(a,b;-;q,x)$, we obtain the connection formula for the $q$-confluent hypergeometric equation in the matrix form. Also we obtain the connection formula of Kummer's confluent hypergeometric functions by taking the limit $q\to 1^{-}$ of our connection formula.
We prove a novel type of inversion formula for elliptic hypergeometric integrals associated to a pair of root systems. Using the (A,C) inversion formula to invert one of the known C-type elliptic beta integrals, we obtain a new elliptic beta integral for the root system of type A. Validity of this integral is established by a different method as well.
We show an asymptotic formula of the divergent bilateral basic hypergeometric series ${}_1ψ_0 (a;-;q,\cdot)$ with using the $q$-Borel-Laplace method. We also give the limit $q\to 1-0$ of our asymptotic formula.
We derive two generalizations of Gasper's transformation formula for basic hypergeometric series. Using these generalized formulas, we give explicit expressions for the coefficients of three-term relations for the basic hypergeometric series {}_{2}phi_{1}, which are generalizations of the author's previous results on three-term relations for {}_{2}phi_{1}.
We extend expansion formulas of Liu given in 2013 to the context of multiple series over root systems. Liu and others have shown the usefulness of these formulas in Special Functions and number-theoretic contexts. We extend Wang and Ma's generalizations of Liu's work which they obtained using $q$-Lagrange inversion. We use the $A_n$ and $C_n$ Bailey transformation and other summation theorems due to Gustafson, Milne, Milne and Lilly, and others, from the theory of $A_n$, $C_n$ and $D_n$ basic hypergeometric series.
New duality transformation formulas are proposed for multiple elliptic hypergeometric series of type $BC$ and of type $C$. Various transformation and summation formulas are derived as special cases to recover some previously known results.
In this note we state (with minor corrections) and give an alternative proof of a very general hypergeometric transformation formula due to Slater. As an application, we obtain a new hypergeometric transformation formula for a ${}_5F_4(-1)$ series with one pair of parameters differing by unity expressed as a linear combination of two ${}_3F_2(1)$ series.
The paper proposes to introduce incomplete Srivastava's triple hypergeometric matrix functions through application of the incomplete Pochhammer matrix symbols. We also derive certain properties such as matrix differential equation, integral formula, reduction formula, recursion formula, recurrence relation and differentiation formula of the incomplete Srivastava's triple hypergeometric matrix functions.
After reviewing some fundamental facts from the theory of theta hypergeometric series we derive, using indefinite summation, several summation, transformation, and expansion formulas for multibasic theta hypergeometric series. Some of the identities presented here generalize corresponding formulas given in Chapter 11 of the Gasper and Rahman book [Basic hypergeometric series, 2nd ed., Encyclopedia of Mathematics And Its Applications 96, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2004].
By building a second order adjoint difference equations on nonuniform lattices, the generalized Rodrigues type representation for the second kind solution of a second order difference equation of hypergeometric type on nonuniform lattices is given. The general solution of the equation in the form of a combination of a standard Rodrigues formula and a generalized Rodrigues formula is also established.
We use Andrews' $q$-analogues of Watson's and Whipple's $_3F_2$ summation theorems to deduce two formulas for products of specific basic hypergeometric functions. These constitute $q$-analogues of corresponding product formulas for ordinary hypergeometric functions given by Bailey. The first formula was obtained earlier by Jain and Srivastava by a different method.
In this paper, we obtain recursion formulas for the Kampé de Feŕiet hypergeometric matrix function. We also give finite and infinite summation formulas for the Kampé de Feŕiet hypergeometric matrix function.
Following a previous article we continue our study on non-terminating hypergeometric series with one free parameter, which aims to find arithmetical constraints for a given hypergeometric series to admit a gamma product formula. In this article we exploit the concepts of duality and reciprocity not only to extend already obtained results to a larger region but also to strengthen themselves substantially. Among other things we are able to settle the rationality and finiteness conjectures posed in the previous article.
The main aim of the present work is to give some interesting the $q$-analogues of various $q$-recurrence relations, $q$-recursion formulas, $q$-partial derivative relations, $q$-integral representations, transformation and summation formulas for bibasic Humbert hypergeometric functions $Ψ_{1}$ and $Ψ_{2}$ on two independent bases $q$ and $p$ of two variables and some developments formulae, believed to be new, by using the conception of $q$-calculus. Finally, some interesting special cases and straightforward identities connected with bibasic Humbert hypergeometric series of the types $Ψ_{1}$ a…
Starting from the Rodrigues representation of polynomial solutions of the general hypergeometric-type differential equation complementary polynomials are constructed using a natural method. Among the key results is a generating function in closed form leading to short and transparent derivations of recursion relations and an addition theorem. The complementary polynomials satisfy a hypergeometric-type differential equation themselves, have a three-term recursion among others and obey Rodrigues formulas. Applications to the classical polynomials are given.
For each of the eight $n$-th derivative parameter changing formulas for Gauss hypergeometric functions a corresponding fractional integration formula is given. For both types of formulas the differential or integral operator is intertwining between two actions of the hypergeometric differential operator (for two sets of parameters): a so-called transmutation property. This leads to eight fractional integration formulas and four generalized Stieltjes transform formulas for each of the six different explicit solutions of the hypergeometric differential equation, by letting the transforms act on …
From the algebraic solution of $x^{n}-x+t=0$ for $n=2,3,4$ and the corresponding solution in terms of hypergeometric functions, we obtain a set of reduction formulas for hypergeometric functions. By differentiation and integration of these results, and applying other known reduction formulas of hypergeometric functions, we derive new reduction formulas of special functions as well as the calculation of some infinite integrals in terms of elementary functions.
Recursive formulas extending some known $_{2}F_{1}$ and $_{3}F_{2}$ summation formulas by using contiguous relations have been obtained. On the one hand, these recursive equations are quite suitable for symbolic and numerical evaluation by means of computer algebra. On the other hand, sometimes closed-forms of such extensions can be derived by induction. It is expected that the method used to obtain the different recursive equations can be applied to extend other hypergeometric summation formulas given in the literature.
The beta integral method proved itself as a simple nonetheless powerful method of generating hypergeometric identities at a fixed argument. In this paper we propose a generalization by substituting the beta density with a particular type of Meijer's G function. By application of our method to known transformation formulas we derive about forty hypergeometric identities, majority of which are believed to be new. We further apply some of these transformations to obtain several new summation formulas.
In this paper, we obtain analytical solutions of Laplace transform based some generalized class of the hyperbolic integrals in terms of hypergeometric functions ${}_3F_2 (\pm1)$, ${}_4F_3 (\pm1)$, ${}_5F_4(\pm1)$, ${}_6F_5(\pm1)$, ${}_7F_6(\pm1)$ and ${}_8F_7(\pm1)$ with suitable convergence conditions, by using some algebraic properties of Pochhammer symbols. In addition, reduction formulas for ${}_4F_3(1)$, ${}_7F_6(-1)$ and some new summation theorems (not recorded earlier in the literature of hypergeometric functions) for ${}_3F_2(-1)$, ${}_6F_5(\pm1)$, ${}_7F_6(\pm1)$ and ${}_8F_7(\pm1)$ …
In this paper, we give an algorithm to generate connection formulas of generalized hypergeometric functions ${}_p F_{p-1}$ for degenerated values of parameters. We also show that these connection formulas give a fast method for numerical evaluation of generalized hypergeometric functions near $\infty$.
In 1981, Andrews gave a four-variable generalization of Ramanujan's ${_1ψ_1}$ summation formula. We establish a six-variable generalization of Andrews' identity according to the transformation formula for two ${_8ϕ_7}$ series and Bailey's transformation formula for three ${_8ϕ_7}$ series. Then it is used to find a six-variable generalization of Ramanujan's reciprocity theorem, which is different from Liu's formula. We derive the generalizations of Bailey's two $_3ψ_3$ summation formulas in terms of two limiting relations and Bailey's another transformation formula for three $_8ϕ_7$ series. Bas…
Hypergeometric functions and their generalizations play an important rôles in diverse applications. Many authors have been established generalizations of hypergeometric functions by a number ways. In this paper, we aim at establishing (presumably new) extended $k-$type hypergeometric function $_{2}f_{1}^{k}[a, b; c; ω; z]$ and study various properties including integral representations, differential formulas and fractional integral and derivative formula.
We calculate some finite and infinite sums containing the digamma function in closed-form. For this purpose, we differentiate selected reduction formulas of the hypergeometric function with respect to the parameters applying some derivative formulas of the Pochhammer symbol. Also, we compare two different differentiation formulas of the generalized hypergeometric function with respect to the parameters. For some particular cases, we recover some results found in the literature. Finally, all the results have been numerically checked.
A proof of an unusual summation formula for a basic hypergeometric series associated to the affine root system $\tilde A_n$ that was conjectured by Warnaar is given. It makes use of Milne's $A_n$ extension of Watson's transformation, Ramanujan's $_1ψ_1$-summation, and a determinant evaluation of the author. In addition, a transformation formula between basic hypergeometric series associated to the affine root systems $\tilde A_n$ respectively $\tilde A_m$, which generalizes at the same time the above summation formula and an identity due to Gessel and the author, is proposed as a conjecture.
Reduction formulas for sums of products of hypergeometric functions can be traced back to Euler. This topic has an intimate connection to summation and transformation formulas, contiguous relations and algebraic properties of the (generalized) hypergeometric differential equation. Over recent several years, important discoveries have been made in this subject by Gorelov, Ebisu, Beukers and Jouhet and Feng, Kuznetsov and Yang. In this paper, we give a generalization of Feng, Kuznetsov and Yang identity covering also Ebisu's and Gorelov's formulas as particular cases.
We prove a reduction formula for Karlsson-Minton type hypergeometric series on the root system C_n and derive some consequences of this identity. In particular, when combined with a similar reduction formula for A_n, it implies a C_n Watson transformation due to Milne and Lilly.
The hypergeometric and Heun functions are classical special functions. Transformation formulas between them are commonly induced by pull-back transformations of their differential equations, with respect to some coverings P1-to-P1. This gives expressions of Heun functions in terms of better understood hypergeometric functions. This article presents the list of hypergeometric-to-Heun pull-back transformations with a free continuous parameter, and illustrates most of them by a Heun-to-hypergeometric reduction formula. In total, 61 parametric transformations exist, of maximal degree 12.
In this brief note, we show how to apply Kummer's and other quadratic transformation formulas for Gauss' and generalized hypergeometric functions in order to obtain transformation and summation formulas for series with harmonic numbers that contain one or two continuous parameters. We also give a generating function of the sequence $\frac{(a)_n (1-a)_n}{(n!)^2}H_n$ as a combination of Gauss hypergeometric function and elementary functions.
Classical integral representation of the Mellin type kernel in terms of the Laplace integral gives an idea to construct a new class of non-convolution (index) transforms. Particular examples give the Kontorovich-Lebedev-like transformation and new transformations with hypergeometric functions as kernels. Mapping properties and inversion formulas are obtained. Finally we prove a new inversion theorem for the modified Kontorovich-Lebedev transform
We start from an interpretation of the $BC_2$-symmetric "Type I" (elliptic Dixon) elliptic hypergeometric integral evaluation as a formula for a Casoratian of the elliptic hypergeometric equation, and give an extension to higher-dimensional integrals and higher-order hypergeometric functions. This allows us to prove the corresponding elliptic beta integral and transformation formula in a new way, by proving both sides satisfy the same difference equations, and that the difference equations satisfy a Galois-theoretical condition that ensures uniqueness of simultaneous solution.
Given parameters $x \notin \mathbb{R}^- \cup \{1\}$ and $ν$, $\mathrm{Re}(ν) < 0$, and the space $\mathscr{H}_0$ of entire functions in $\mathbb{C}$ vanishing at $0$, we consider the family of operators $\mathfrak{L} = c_0 \cdot δ\circ \mathfrak{M}$ with constant $c_0 = ν(1-ν)x/(1-x)$, $δ= z \, \mathrm{d}/\mathrm{d}z$ and integral operator $\mathfrak{M}$ defined by $$ \mathfrak{M}f(z) = \int_0^1 e^{- \frac{z}{x}t^{-ν}(1-(1-x)t)} \, f \left ( \frac{z}{x} \, t^{-ν}(1-t) \right ) \, \frac{\mathrm{d}t}{t}, \qquad z \in \mathbb{C}, $$ for all $f \in \mathscr{H}_0$. Inverting $\mathfrak{L}$ or $\mat…
Many product formulas are known classically for generalized hypergeometric functions over the complex numbers. In this paper, we establish some analogous formulas for generalized hypergeometric functions over finite fields.
In this paper, we obtain a $(p,ν)$-extension of Srivastava's triple hypergeometric function $H_B(\cdot)$, together by using the extended Beta function $B_{p,ν}(x,y)$ introduced in arXiv:1502.06200. We give some of the main properties of this extended function, which include several integral representations involving Exton's hypergeometric function, the Mellin transform, a differential formula, recursion formulas and a bounded inequality.
Our purpose in this present paper is to investigate generalized integration formulas containing the extended generalized hypergeometric function and obtained results are expressed in terms of extended hypergeometric function. Certain special cases of the main results presented here are also pointed out for the extended Gauss' hypergeometric and confluent hypergeometric functions.
We give some structural formulas for the family of matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials of size $2\times 2$ introduced by C. Calderón et al. in an earlier work, which are common eigenfunctions of a differential operator of hypergeometric type. Specifically, we give a Rodrigues formula that allows us to write this family of polynomials explicitly in terms of the classical Jacobi polynomials, and write, for the sequence of orthonormal polynomials, the three-term recurrence relation and the Christoffel-Darboux identity. We obtain a Pearson equation, which enables us to prove that the sequence of …
A summation formula is derived for the sum of the first m+1 terms of the 3F2(a,b,c;(a+b+1)/2,2c;1) series when c = -m is a negative integer. This summation formula is used to derive a formula for the sum of a terminating double hypergeometric series that arose in another project by one of us (C.D.)
We give a new method to prove in a uniform and easy way various transformation formulas for Gauss hypergeometric functions. The key is Jacobi's canonical form of the hypergeometric differential equation. Analogy for $q$-hypergeometric functions is also studied.
We discuss the spectral decomposition of the hypergeometric differential operators on the line $\mathrm{Re}\, z=1/2$. Such operators arise in the problem of decomposition of tensor products of unitary representations of the universal covering of the group $SL(2\,{\mathbb R}$. Our main purpose is a search of natural bases in generalized eigenspaces and variants of the inversion formula.
The aim of this paper is to give an explicit formula for the nonsymmetric Heckman-Opdam's hypergeometric function of type $A_2$. This is obtained by differentiating the corresponding symmetric hypergeometric function.
Fundamental solutions for a class of multidimensional elliptic equations with several singular coefficients were constructed recently. These fundamental solutions are directly connected with multiple Lauricella hypergeometric function and the decomposition formula is required for their investigation which would express the multivariable hypergeometric function in terms of products of several simpler hypergeometric functions involving fewer variables. In this paper, some relations following from the decomposition formula for one multidimensional Lauricell hypergeometric function are determined.
In this survey paper, we exhaustively explore the terminating basic hypergeometric representations of the Askey-Wilson polynomials and the corresponding terminating basic hypergeometric transformations that these polynomials satisfy. From the terminating basic hypergeometric representations of these polynomials, and due to symmetry in their free parameters, we are able to exhaustively explore the terminating basic hypergeometric transformation formulae which these polynomials satisfy.
We derive hypergeometric formulas for Euler's constant, gamma. A "by-product" of Thomae's transformation is an infinite product for e^gamma involving the binomial coefficients. Alternate, non-hypergeometric proofs use a double integral for gamma, the beta integral, and an integral for the digamma function. (I thank P. Sebah, S. Zlobin, and W. Zudilin for valuable suggestions used in the paper.)
