We study Serre structures on categories enriched in pivotal monoidal categories, and apply this to study Serre structures on two types of graded k-linear categories: categories with group actions and categories with graded hom spaces. We check that Serre structures are preserved by taking orbit categories and skew group categories, and describe the relationship with graded Frobenius algebras. Using a formal version of Auslander-Reiten translations, we show that the derived category of a d-representation finite algebra is fractionally Calabi-Yau if and only if its preprojective algebra has a graded Nakayama automorphism of finite order. This connects various results in the literature and gives new examples of fractional Calabi-Yau algebras.
For a (right and left) coherent ring $A$, we show that there exists a duality between homotopy categories ${\mathbb{K}}^{\rm{b}}({\rm mod}{\mbox{-}}A^{\rm op})$ and ${\mathbb{K}}^{\rm{b}}({\rm mod}{\mbox{-}}A)$. If $A=Λ$ is an artin algebra of finite global dimension, this duality restricts to a duality between their subcategories of acyclic complexes, ${\mathbb{K}}^{\rm{b}}_{\rm ac}({\rm mod}{\mbox{-}}Λ^{\rm op})$ and ${\mathbb{K}}^{\rm{b}}_{\rm ac}({\rm mod}{\mbox{-}}Λ).$ As a result, it will be shown that, in this case, ${\mathbb{K}}_{\rm ac}^{\rm{b}}({\rm mod}{\mbox{-}}Λ)$ admits a Serre f…
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a $(d+2)$-angulated category with $d$-suspension functor $Σ^d$. Our main results show that every Serre functor on $\mathscr{C}$ is a $(d+2)$-angulated functor. We also show that $\mathscr{C}$ has a Serre functor $\mathbb{S}$ if and only if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander--Reiten $(d+2)$-angles. Moreover, $τ_d=\mathbb{S}Σ^{-d}$ where $τ_d$ is $d$-Auslander-Reiten translation. These results generalize work by Bondal-Kapranov and Reiten-Van den Bergh. As an application, we prove that for a strongly functorially finite subcategory $\mathscr{X}$ of $\mathscr{C}$, the quotient categ…
Let $G$ be a finite group and $\mathbb{K}$ a field of characteristic zero. the ring $R_\mathbb{K}(G)$ of virtual characters of $G$ over $\mathbb{K}$ is naturally endowed with a so-called Grothendieck filtration, with associated graded ring $R^*_\mathbb{K}(G)$. Restriction of representations to any $H\leq G$ induces a homomorphism $R^*_\mathbb{K}(G) \to R^*_\mathbb{K}(H)$. We show that, when $G$ is abelian, induction of representations preserves the filtration, so $R^*_\mathbb{C}(-)$ is a Mackey functor; in the general case, we propose a modified filtration which turns $R^*_\mathbb{K}(-)$ into …
We give an introduction to the $\mathbb{Z}$-graded representation theory of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of a complex semisimple Lie algebras, with an emphasis on Soergel's combinatorial $\mathbb{V}$ functor, definitions of $\mathbb{Z}$-graded duality functors and definitions of $\mathbb{Z}$-graded translation functors.
We prove that the full twist is a Serre functor in the homotopy category of type A Soergel bimodules. As a consequence, we relate the top and bottom Hochschild degrees in Khovanov-Rozansky homology, categorifying a theorem of Kálmán.
Let G be a connected complex reductive group and let K be a symmetric subgroup of G. We prove a formula for the Drinfeld-Gaitsgory functor for the dg-category of K-equivariant sheaves on the flag manifold of G in terms of the Matsuki duality functor. As byproducts, we obtain a description of the Serre functor and the Deligne-Lusztig duality for (g,K)-modules.
Happel constructed a fully faithful functor $\mathcal{H} :\mathsf{D}^{\mathrm{b}}(\text{mod} \ Λ) \to \underline{\text{mod}}^{\Bbb{Z}} \ \text{T}(Λ)$ for a finite dimensional algebra $Λ$. He also showed that this functor $\mathcal{H}$ gives an equivalence precisely when $\text{gldim } Λ< \infty$. Thus if $\mathcal{H}$ gives an equivalence, then it provides a canonical tilting object $\mathcal{H} (Λ)$ of $\underline{\text{mod}}^{\mathbb{Z}} \ \text{T}(Λ)$. In this paper we generalize Happel's functor $\mathcal{H}$ in the case where $\text{T}(Λ)$ is replaced with a finitely graded IG algebra $A$…
We study the role of the Serre functor in the theory of derived equivalences. Let $\mathcal{A}$ be an abelian category and let $(\mathcal{U}, \mathcal{V})$ be a $t$-structure on the bounded derived category $D^b \mathcal{A}$ with heart $\mathcal{H}$. We investigate when the natural embedding $\mathcal{H} \to D^b \mathcal{A}$ can be extended to a triangle equivalence $D^b \mathcal{H} \to D^b \mathcal{A}$. Our focus of study is the case where $\mathcal{A}$ is the category of finite-dimensional modules over a finite-dimensional hereditary algebra. In this case, we prove that such an extension exi…
Using the Nakayama functor, we construct an equivalence from a Serre quotient category of a category of finitely generated modules to a category of finite-dimensional modules. We then apply this result to the categories FI$_G$ and VI$_q$, and answer positively an open question of Nagpal on representation stability theory.
In this paper we study adjunction relations between some natural functors on the representation category of the category of finite linearly ordered sets and order-preserving injections. We also prove that the Nakayama functor induces an equivalence from the Serre quotient of the category of finitely generated modules by the category of finitely generated torsion modules to the category of finite dimensional modules.
A successful theme in the development of triangulated categories has been the study of compact objects. A weak dual notion called 0-cocompact objects was introduced in arXiv:1801.07995, motivated by the fact that sets of such objects cogenerate co-t-structures, dual to the t-structures generated by sets of compact objects. In the present paper, we show that the notion of 0-cocompact objects also appears naturally in the presence of certain dualities. We introduce "partial Serre duality", which is shown to link compact to 0-cocompact objects. We show that partial Serre duality gives rise to an …
In this paper we describe an inductive machinery to investigate asymptotic behaviors of homology groups and related invariants of representations of certain graded combinatorial categories over a commutative Noetherian ring $k$, via introducing inductive functors which generalize important properties of shift functors of $\mathrm{FI}$-modules. In particular, a sufficient criterion for finiteness of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of finitely generated representations of these categories is obtained. As applications, we show that a few important infinite combinatorial categories appearing in rep…
We prove that the parabolic induction functor on BGG-category $\mathcal{O}$ associated to a complex reductive Lie algebra is gradable, that is, lifts to graded category $\mathcal{O}$ as constructed by Beilinson-Ginzburg-Soergel. Graded category $\mathcal{O}$ is equivalent to a category of stratified mixed Tate motives on a corresponding flag variety as recently defined by Soergel-Wendt. The graded version of parabolic induction is induced by a geometric parabolic induction functor we construct on the level of stratified mixed Tate motives. We also describe the effect of parabolic induction on …
This note extends the Steinberg Tensor product theorem from the Frobenius kernel $G_{(r)}$ to the deformation $\mathcal{U}^{[r]}(\mathfrak{g})$ of its distribution algebra. As a Corollary we proof some conjectures from \cite{Wes}. Further it describes the graded representation theory of $\mathcal{U}^{[r]}(\mathfrak{g})$ at a generic semisimple p-central character as a twist of the category of graded $G_{(r-1)}$-modules. We conclude by explaining this relation for $SL_2$ explicitely as well as computing the center in this case.
We introduce a new family of algebras, called Serre-formal algebras. They are Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras for which applying any power of the Serre functor on any indecomposable projective module, the result remains a stalk complex. Typical examples are given by (higher) hereditary algebras and self-injective algebras; it turns out that other interesting algebras such as (higher) canonical algebras are also Serre-formal. Starting from a Serre-formal algebra, we consider a series of algebras - called the replicated algebras - given by certain subquotients of its repetitive algebra. We calculate…
In this paper we construct a family of exact functors from the category of Whittaker modules of the simple complex Lie algebra of type $A_n$ to the category of finite-dimensional modules of the graded affine Hecke algebra of type $A_\ell$. Using results of Backelin and of Arakawa-Suzuki, we prove that these functors map standard modules to standard modules (or zero) and simple modules to simple modules (or zero). Moreover, we show that each simple module of the graded affine Hecke algebra appears as the image of a simple Whittaker module. Since the Whittaker category contains the BGG category …
We obtain Morita invariant versions of Eilenberg-Watts type theorems, relating Deligne products of finite linear categories to categories of left exact as well as of right exact functors. This makes it possible to switch between different functor categories as well as Deligne products, which is often very convenient. For instance, we can show that applying the equivalence from left exact to right exact functors to the identity functor, regarded as a left exact functor, gives a Nakayama functor. The equivalences of categories we exhibit are compatible with the structure of module categories ove…

The classical parabolic induction functor is a fundamental tool on the representation theoretic side of the Langlands program. In this article, we study its derived version. It was shown by the second author that the derived category of smooth $G$-representations over $k$, $G$ a $p$-adic reductive group and $k$ a field of characteristic $p$, is equivalent to the derived category of a certain differential graded $k$-algebra $H_G^\bullet$, whose zeroth cohomology is a classical Hecke algebra. This equivalence predicts the existence of a derived parabolic induction functor on the dg Hecke algebra…
We are concerned with relating derived categories of all modules of two dual Koszul algebras defined by a locally bounded quiver. We first generalize the well known Acyclic Assembly Lemma and formalize an old method of extending a functor from an additive category into a complex category to its complex category. Applying this to the Koszul functor associated with a Koszul algebra defined by a gradable quiver, we obtain a Koszul complex functor, that descends to an equivalence of a continuous family of pairs of triangulated subcategories of doubly unbounded complexes of the respective derived c…
In this largely expository paper we extend properties of the homological duality functor $RHom_{\mathcal H}(-,{\mathcal H})$ where ${\mathcal H}$ is the Hecke algebra of a reductive $p$-adic group, to the case where it is the Hecke algebra of a finite central extension of a reductive $p$-adic group. The most important properties being that $RHom_{\mathcal H}(-,{\mathcal H})$ is concentrated in a single degree for irreducible representations and that it gives rise to Schneider--Stuhler duality for Ext groups (a Serre functor like property). Along the way we also study Grothendieck--Serre dualit…
