Let $\overline{\mathbb{D}}$ be the closure of the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ in the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$ and $g$ be a continuous function in $\overline{\mathbb{D}}$. In this paper, we discuss some characterizations of elliptic mappings $f$ satisfying the Poisson's equation $Δf=g$ in $\mathbb{D}$, and then establish some sharp distortion theorems on elliptic mappings with the finite perimeter and the finite radial length, respectively. The obtained results are the extension of the corresponding classical results.
A behavior of open discrete mappings, which are quasiconformal in the mean, is investigated. It is proved that the classes of mappings mentioned above are equicontinuous (normal).
In this paper, we extend Ahlfors's univalent criteria and Ahlfors's quasiconformal extension for analytic functions to harmonic mappings defined in the unit disk. Moreover, we give a general quasiconformal extension of harmonic Teichmüller mappings, whose maximal dilatation estimate is asymptotically sharp.
The main aim of this article is to establish certain relationships between $K$-quasiconformal harmonic mappings and John disks. The results of this article are the generalizations of the corresponding results of Ch.~Pommerenke \cite{Po}.
The main aim of this paper is to study the Lipschitz continuity of certain $(K, K')$-quasiconformal mappings with respect to the distance ratio metric, and the Lipschitz continuity of the solution of a quasilinear differential equation with respect to the distance ratio metric.
We prove that a harmonic quasiconformal mapping defined on a finitely connected domain in the plane, all of whose boundary components are either points or quasicircles, admits a quasiconformal extension to the whole plane if its Schwarzian derivative is small. We also make the observation that a univalence criterion for harmonic mappings holds on uniform domains.
In this article, we first discuss the Lipschitz characteristic and the linear measure distortion of $K$-quasiconformal harmonic mappings. Then we give some characterizations of the radial John disks with the help of Pre-Schwarzian of harmonic mappings.
In this paper we extend Rado-Choquet-Kneser theorem for the mappings with Lipschitz boundary data and essentially positive Jacobian at the boundary, without restriction on the convexity of image domain. It is an extension of a recent result of Alessandrini and Nesi \cite{ale}. Some applications for the family of quasiconformal harmonic mappings between Jordan domains are given.
We prove that if the Schwarzian norm of a given complex-valued locally univalent harmonic mapping $f$ in the unit disk is small enough, then $f$ is, indeed, globally univalent and can be extended to a quasiconformal mapping in the extended complex plane.
In this article, we continue our investigations of the boundary behavior of harmonic mappings. We first discuss the classical problem on the growth of radial length and obtain a sharp growth theorem of the radial length of $K$-quasiconformal harmonic mappings. Then we present an alternate characterization of radial John disks. In addition, we investigate the linear measure distortion and the Lipschitz continuity on $K$-quasiconformal harmonic mappings of the unit disk onto a radial John disk. Finally, using Pommerenke interior domains, we characterize certain differential properties of $K$-qua…
We consider quasiconformal mappings of the unit disk that have a planar extension which have $p$-integrable distortion. In this paper, we establish a bound for the modulus of continuity for the inverse mapping and show sharpness of this bound. Furthermore, we also obtain bounds for the compression multifractal spectra of such mappings.

We establish that every $K$-quasiconformal mapping $w$ of the unit ball $\IB$ onto a $C^2$-Jordan domain $Ω$ is Hölder continuous with constant $α= 2-\frac{n}{p}$, provided that its weak Laplacean $Δw$ is in $ L^p(\IB)$ for some $n/2<p<n$. In particular it is Hölder continuous for every $0<α<1$ provided that $Δw\in L^n(\IB)$.
We study quasiconformal mappings of the unit disk that have planar extension with controlled distortion. For these mappings we prove a bound for the modulus of continuity of the inverse map, which somewhat surprisingly is almost as good as for global quasiconformal maps. Furthermore, we give examples which improve the known bounds for the three point property of generalized quasidisks. Finally, we establish optimal regularity of such maps when the image of the unit disk has cusp type singularities.
We present a new and simple proof of Teichmüller-Wittich-Belinskii's and Gutlyanskii-Martio's theorems on the conformality of quasiconformal mappings at a given point. Known proofs gave separate estimates for the radial and angular variations, but our proof unifies them using Grötzsch-type inequality for the variation of cross-ratio of four points on the Riemann sphere. We also give a sufficient condition for $C^{1+α}$-conformality
Let $h$ be a quasiconformal (qc) mapping of the unit disk $\mathbb{U}$ onto a Lyapunov domain. We show that $h$ maps subdomains of Lyapunov type of $\mathbb{U}$, which touch the boundary of $\mathbb{U}$, onto domains of similar type. In particular if $h$ is a harmonic qc (hqc) mapping of $\mathbb{U}$ onto a Lyapunov domain, using it, we prove that $h$ is co-Lipschitz (co-Lip) on $\mathbb{U}$. This settles an open intriguing problem.
We construct quasiconformal mappings $f\colon \mathbb{R}^{3} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{3}$ for which there is a Borel set $E \subset \mathbb{R}^2 \times \{0\}$ of positive Lebesgue $2$-measure whose image $f(E)$ has Hausdorff $2$-measure zero. This gives a solution to the open problem of inverse absolute continuity of quasiconformal mappings on hypersurfaces, attributed to Gehring. By implication, our result also answers questions of Väisälä and Astala--Bonk--Heinonen.
A K-quasiconformal selfmap of the unit disk with identity boundary values satisfies the Hölder estimate $|f(z)-f(w)| \leq 4^{1-1/K} |z-w|^{1/K}$. The constant $4^{1-\frac{1}{K}}$ is sharp.
In the present paper, we discuss several basic properties of a class of quasiconformal close-to-convex harmonic mappings with starlike analytic part, such results as coefficient inequalities, an integral representation, a growth theorem, an area theorem, and radii of close-to-convexity of partial sums of the class, are derived.
Let $D$ and $Ω$ be Jordan domains with Dini's smooth boundaries and and let $f:D\mapsto Ω$ be a harmonic homeomorphism. The object of the paper is to prove the following result: If $f$ is quasiconformal, then $f$ is Lipschitz. This extends some recent results, where stronger assumptions on the boundary are imposed, and somehow is optimal, since it coincides with the best condition for Lipschitz behavior of conformal mappings in the plane and conformal parametrization of minimal surfaces.
Suppose that $f: D\to D'$ is a quasiconformal mapping, where $D$ and $D'$ are domains in ${\mathbb R}^n$, and that $D$ is a broad domain. Then for every arcwise connected subset $A$ in $D$, the weak quasisymmetry of the restriction $f|_A: A\to f(A)$ implies its quasisymmetry, and as a consequence, we see that the answer to one of the open problems raised by Heinonen from 1989 is affirmative under the additional condition that $A$ is arcwise connected. As an application, we establish nine equivalent conditions for a bounded domain, which is quasiconformally equivalent to a bounded and simply co…
In this article, we establish the Bohr inequalities for the sense-preserving $K$-quasiconformal harmonic mappings defined in the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ involving classes of Ma-Minda starlike and convex univalent functions, usually denoted by $\mathcal{S}^*(ψ)$ and $\mathcal{C}(ψ)$ respectively, and for $\log (f(z)/z)$ where $f$ belongs to the Ma-Minda classes or satisfies certain differential subordination. We also estimate Logarithmic coefficient's bounds for the functions in $\mathcal{C}(ψ)$ for the case $ψ(\mathbb{D})$ be convex.
We prove that for harmonic quasiconformal mappings $α$-Hölder continuity on the boundary implies $α$-Hölder continuity of the map itself. Our result holds for the class of uniformly perfect bounded domains, in fact we can allow that a portion of the boundary is thin in the sense of capacity. The problem for general bounded domains remains open.
In this article, we examine stretching and rotation of planar quasiconformal mappings on a line. We show that for almost every point on the line, the set of complex stretching exponents (describing stretching and rotation jointly) is contained in the disk $ \overline{B}(1/(1-k^4),k^2/(1-k^4))$. This yields a quadratic improvement over the known optimal estimate for general sets of Hausdorff dimension $1$. Our proof is based on holomorphic motions and estimates for dimensions of quasicircles. We also give a lower bound for the dimension of the image of a $1$-dimensional subset of a line under a…
We define a universal Teichmüller space for locally quasiconformal mappings whose dilatation grows not faster than a certain rate. Paralleling the classical Teichmüller theory, we prove results of existence and uniqueness for extremal mappings in the generalized Teichmüller class. Further, we analyze the circle maps that arise.
If $Ω$ is a simply connected domain in $\overline{\mathbb C}$ then, according to the Ahlfors-Gehring theorem, $Ω$ is a quasidisk if and only if there exists a sufficient condition for the univalence of holomorphic functions in $Ω$ in relation to the growth of their Schwarzian derivative. We extend this theorem to harmonic mappings by proving a univalence criterion on quasidisks. We also show that the mappings satisfying this criterion admit a homeomorphic extension to $\overline{\mathbb C}$ and, under the additional assumption of quasiconformality in $Ω$, they admit a quasiconformal extension …
We extend a well-known theorem by Jones and Makarov [JM] on the singularity of boundary distortion of planar conformal mappings. We use a different technique to recover the previous result and, moreover, generalize the result for quasiconformal mappings of the unit ball $\B^n\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, $n\ge 2$. We also establish an estimate on the Hausdorff (gauge) dimension of the boundary of the image domain outside an exceptional set of given size on the sphere $\partial \B^n$. Furthermore, we show that this estimate is essentially sharp. [JM] P. W. Jones and N. Makarov: Density properties of h…
The main aim of this paper is to give a complete solution to one of the open problems, raised by Heinonen from 1989, concerning the subinvariance of John domains under quasiconformal mappings in $\IR^n$. As application, the quasisymmetry of quasiconformal mappings is discussed.
In this paper, we provide partial solutions to a problem raised by Väisälä on local properties of free quasiconformal mappings. In particular, we show that a locally free quasiconformal mapping is globally free quasiconformal under the condition of locally relative quasisymmetry.
This paper first studies the regularity of conformal homeomorphisms on smooth locally embeddable strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. Then moduli of curve families are used to estimate the maximal dilatations of quasiconformal homeomorphisms. On certain CR 3-manifolds, namely, CR circle bundles over flat tori, extremal quasiconformal homeomorphisms in some homotopy classes are constructed. These extremal mappings have similar behaviors to Teichmüller mappings on Riemann surfaces.
Teichmüller's classical mapping problem for plane domains concerns finding a lower bound for the maximal dilatation of a quasiconformal homeomorphism which holds the boundary pointwise fixed, maps the domain onto itself, and maps a given point of the domain to another given point of the domain. For a domain $D \subset {\mathbb R}^n\,,n\ge 2\,,$ we consider the class of all $K$- quasiconformal maps of $D$ onto itself with identity boundary values and Teichmüller's problem in this context. Given a map $f$ of this class and a point $x\in D\,,$ we show that the maximal dilatation of $f$ has a lowe…
In his celebrated paper on area distortion for quasiconformal mappings, Astala showed optimal area distortion bounds and dimension distortion estimates for planar quasiconformal mappings. He asked (Question 4.4) whether a finer result held, namely absolute continuity of Hausdorff measures under push-forward by quasiconformal mappings. This was proved in one particular case relevant for removability questions, in joint work of Astala, Clop, Mateu, Orobitg and the author ("Distortion of Hausdorff measures and improved Painlev'e removability for bounded quasiregular mappings", Duke Math J., to ap…
It is shown that the dispersionless scalar integrable hierarchies and, in general, the universal Whitham hierarchy are nothing but classes of integrable deformations of quasiconformal mappings on the plane. Examples of deformations of quasiconformal mappings associated with explicit solutions of the dispersionless KP hierarchy are presented.
Suppose that $f$ is a $K$-quasiconformal self-mapping of the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$, which satisfies the following: $(1)$ the biharmonic equation $Δ(Δf)=g$ $(g\in \mathcal{C}(\overline{\mathbb{D}}))$, (2) the boundary condition $Δf=φ$ ($φ\in\mathcal{C}(\mathbb{T})$ and $\mathbb{T}$ denotes the unit circle), and $(3)$ $f(0)=0$. The purpose of this paper is to prove that $f$ is Lipschitz continuos, and, further, it is bi-Lipschitz continuous when $\|g\|_{\infty}$ and $\|φ\|_{\infty}$ are small enough. Moreover, the estimates are asymptotically sharp as $K\to 1$, $\|g\|_{\infty}\to 0$ and $\|φ\|_…
Let $Σ_k(p)$ be the class of univalent meromorphic functions defined on $\mathbb{D}$ with $k$-quasiconformal extension to the extended complex plane $\widehat{\mathbb{C}}$, where $0\leq k < 1$. Let $Σ_k^0(p)$ be the class of functions $f \in Σ_k(p)$ having expansion of the form $f(z)= 1/(z-p) + \sum_{n=1}^{\infty}b_n z^{n}$ on $\mathbb{D}$. In this article, we obtain sharp area distortion and weighted area distortion inequalities for functions in $Σ_k^0(p)$. As a consequence of the obtained results, we present a sharp estimate for the bounds of the Hilbert transform.
It is known for some time that there exists an energy-minimal diffeomorphism between two doubly-connected domains $Ω$ and $D$ provided that $\mathrm{Mod}(Ω)\le \mathrm{Mod}{D}$ and that diffeomorphism is harmonic \cite{tedi}. In this note we give a short proof of the fact that for given annuli $Ω$ and $D$ satisfying the condition $\mathrm{Mod}(Ω)\le \mathrm{Mod}(D)$ there exist a $K-$quasiconformal harmonic diffeomorphism $f:Ω\onto D$, where $K=K(τ)$, $τ=\mathrm{Mod}(Ω)/ \mathrm{Mod}(D)$ and $\lim_{τ\to 1}K(τ)=1$.
We recall the notions of conformal and quasiconformal mappings \textit{in the sense of Gromov}, extending the classical notions of conformal and quasiconformal mappings, and prove the following theorem. {\em If the mapping $ F: \mathbb{R}^{n} \to \mathbb{R}^{2} $, where $ n \geq 2 $, quasiconformal in the sense of Gromov, omits more than one value on the plane $\mathbb{R}^{2} $, then it is a constant mapping.}
We derive a quasiconformal extension to 3-space of the Weierstrass-Enneper lifts of a class of harmonic mappings defined in the unit disk. The extension is based on fibrations of space by circles in domain and image that correspond to each other in a natural way. Convexity plays an essential role in the analysis. As a corollary we derive a sufficient condition for the underlying harmonic mapping to be univalent in the disk, with an explicit quasiconformal extension to the extended plane that generalizes the well known formula by Ahlfors-Weill.
This is a commentary on Teichm{ü}ller's paper Ein Verschiebungssatz der quasikonformen Abbildung (A displacement theorem of quasiconformal mapping), published in 1944. We explain in detail how Teichm{ü}ller solves the problem of finding the quasiconformal mapping from the unit disc to itself, sending 0 to a strictly negative point on the real line, holding the boundary of the disc pointwise fixed and with the smallest quasiconformal dilatation. We mention also some consequences of this extremal problem and we ask a question.
